Our gas clothes dryer is about 10 months old, purchased new from Sears -- but when it was installed, the installers used a plastic vent tube instead of a metal one. We recently learned that plastic vents rapidly collect lint and also are a fire hazard. The dryer was taking longer and longer to dry clothes. So we asked Alpine to come out, clean the dryer, and replace the plastic vent tube with a new metal one. I called on Tuesday and was quoted a price and given a time for Friday. They arrived Friday thirty minutes early. Very polite and friendly. Cleaned the dryer and replaced the plastic tube with a metal tube, for exactly the estimated price. Less than thirty minutes. A perfect job, I will definitely use them again. (And the dryer now dries fast.)
Description of Work: They cleaned our gas clothes dryer and replaced the dryer vent that runs from the dryer to the outside wall.

Garry came out to estimate prior to buying our house. The estimate was for $750. This was explained as worst-case scenario price not knowing exactly what was behind the cabinet. He explained that all precautions would be taken when dealing with mold suspected area. I was surprised when the worker just came in and removed the drywall without containing the area or taking any other precautions. The work took about 3 hours. He pretty much just tore out a 3' x 6' area of drywall and removed the insulation and plastic. After wiping down the area a solution of water and Dawn detergent (that he borrowed from us), he painted on the sealant. He then replaced the removed insulation (with what looked like previously used insulation) and put up new plastic. I was surprised the little amount of work that was performed for the $750 price. Fortunately, I had a $199 off coupon so the price was reduced to $550 which was a more reasonable of a price considering the amount of work performed. Overall I was happy with the services performed.
Description of Work: Removal of water damaged (suspected mold) drywall, plastic and insulation. Treated area with anti-microbial coating. Replaced insulation and plastic.

I am pleased with Alpine's work. The whole process was much less disruptive than I had envisioned. Had I known, I would have had it done sooner. Katie was helpful in describing the process, giving me a quote, and scheduling a convenient time. Some of the reasons I choose Alpine: 1. Price was reasonable, but not so low that I felt I would get poor results. 2. Two men would be sent for the job. Therefore they could move some heavy furniture which obstructed access to a couple of the vents. 3. The suction equipment and dirt receptacle remained outside, with only hoses from their truck coming inside, instead of the whole system being brought in as is the case for some other companies. Jason and Jeff were right on time. They were courteous and hard working. They moved some heavy furniture without complaint, and removed a huge amount of dirt from the ducts. My furnace motor must be quite happy now, not having to suck air though all of that dust and cat hair, and I expect my home to stay cleaner, even though I already had a high-efficiency filter on the HVAC system. Two things that I would like to have seen done in the process: Wipe down the inside of each register face plate while it was off for cleaning the ducts and vacuum the debris gotten on the floor at each register a little better. Alpine Group advertises an Angie's List member discount. They were offering a special to everyone when I scheduled and gave no further Angie's List discount. I returned home to a chilly house the evening after they cleaned the ducts to discover that the furnace was not working. In trying to trouble shoot, I pulled the space filter and discovered more dirt that I would have expected in that area, because the furnace is new and the filter had just been replaced. Because of that, as a check, I removed the face plate from the cold air return in the basement (where I thought someone would be most likely to cut corners, if they were not going to do a thorough job). It was cleaned well. This was, of course, after hours, but I called and left a message for Alpine asking for help with the furnace, because my husband was out of town and I did not know what to look for. Alpine was much more response than I expected them to be. I was hoping for a call back early the next morning. Instead, the owner, Dave Adams, monitored voice mail messages and had Jason go back to the office, get my phone number and call me that evening. It turned out that they had switched off the furnace and overlooked turning it back on. Jason told me where to find the switch, and I spent a warm night. A switch. Why didn't I think of that? Thanks guys. Dave called me the next day, and offered to have Jason come and vacuum the space filter and its housing, but it was easier for me to do it myself than to schedule someone to return. I was impressed by the responsiveness for such a small problem. I felt confident that Dave would have been willing to do anything reasonable to make me satisfied. I am a happy Alpine Group customer.
Description of Work: Alpine Group cleaned the air ducts in my home. The also cleaned two bathroom exhaust fan vents and one kitchen stove vent. The HVAC system ducting, which included 17 registers and cold air return vents, was extremely dirty before Alpine cleaned it. The home is 50 years old, and we have lived here with indoor pets for the past 40 years. The air ducts have not been cleaned in all of that time. The cold air return ducts were loaded with cat hair. Alpine made my home feel a lot fresher, just knowing all of that cat hair was removed.

Excellent. 2 workers showed up on time, and were very professional with good communication. Took the time to show me issues up in the attic. They repaired some broken screws in several of my duct covers without me having to ask. They also secured my attic entry frame (loose) without additional charge. They used metal ductwork for dryer vent (did not use less desirable corregated plastic). Home was clean and you would never know they were there (no excess dust from duct cleaning). Will use again.

The work was done very well. The workers were very clean and punctual. Since we virtually had no insulation in the attic, they went beyond the call of duty and added extra insulation in certain areas. I haven't received a heating bill since completion, so i don't know about the saving yet. But I'm certain it will make a difference.

The 2 gentleman, Jason and Brandon, used clear tape to tape off all the vents and cold air returns. I pointed out that they had forgotten one cold air return in my son's room. After cleaning the vents, they went downstairs to work on cleaning the furnace. After a few minutes, my fire alarm went off due to the cloud of drywall dust that was blowing out of the missed cold air return in my son's room. By the time, I reached they turned off the machine, my entire main level was blanketed with drywall dust. The men then got very defensive and angry when I asked that a cleaning crew be called to clean up. I also asked that they call there manager so I could speak to someone. I received no call back from Gary the manager. I then called myself, was apologized to by a very nice lady named Katie, but she was unable to resolve my issues. I indicated I was going to call a company and try to get a cleaning crew at their expense. Lastly, after the crew removed the tape from my ducts, they tore off the wallpaper on 2 of my wallpapered ducts, left and did not say a word.

Response from Alpine Maintenance Group Inc
From Alpine Owner: We are sorry that a problem occurred and strive for a quick response to fix problems if they do occur. We have very capable and well trained technicians and have not had any complaints EVER in the past with them or their customer relationship skills. (Please see past Angie's List customer feedback reports.) I will discuss this complaint in detail with my men to discover the root cause, to council them on customer relations and to ensure it does not happen again. In this case, our work was finished late Monday afternoon and this response seems to have been posted Tuesday morning, before I was able to speak with the client to try to help rectify the problem. I actually arrived at the clients house at 11:00 AM the very next morning to investigate and help resolve the wall paper issues. I am bit saddened by the quick posting of this report, less than 20 hours after the problem occurred, and before I even arrived at the house. Katie was notified Monday afternoon by our client that dust was in the house after our duct cleaning. We agreed immediately to try to find a house cleaning crew to come out and vacuum/dust the effected rooms. A professional cleaning crew was located by the home owner first and came out with in a few hours. The effected rooms were thoroughly cleaned to the home owners satisfaction. Alpine is paying the bill in full for the cleaning costs. Plastic is often placed over registers to increase the suction on the system and to prevent this type of problem from occurring. When the plastic was removed from the registers that were wall papered, it seems that a small amount of the wall paper came off with the plastic. Our procedure has now been changed to not place this plastic over metal registers that are covered with wall paper. We have offered the client to have the registers re-papered by a professional wall paper company, and we will pay all of the costs. Regarding dust in the house, it is very rare that dust comes out of ducts into the house during our cleaning, but it can occur and has occurred for every duct cleaning in the country at some time or other. Often the root cause is ducts that may been installed incorrectly when the house was built, large items left in the ducts during construction like pieces big of drywall or heavy pieces of 2 x 4's etc. Regardless, some dust did come out the the duct ( I never saw how much as it was cleaned up before I arrived the next morning) and it did get into the house and it should not have happened. Regarding the smoke alarm, smoke is made up of tiny particles, and so is dust. Smoke alarms work on the principle of identifying tiny particles in the air (smoke) but will also go off if the right amount of or right size of duct particles are in the air, which this one did. I do not know how we can do anymore do to resolve this issue but are we are open to try to do more if it is possible to do so. Regarding the posted grades, I believe that the clients ducts are now very clean (she indicated to me how full of dust they were from a major remodeling and drywall sanding job) and the quality of the duct cleaning received was excellent. I believe we could not have been any more responsive to resolve this issue. I cannot comment on the professionalism grade, as I was not in the house during the cleaning. Regarding the wall papered registers, I suspect that my technicians may have overlooked the wallpaper torn off of the registers as when I came out to review it, it was fairly difficult to see. Thank you for bearing with this long response.

John and Josh arrived right on time. Really friendly guys who got right to work. I entered NA on quality of work only because I can't get in the attic to actually see it but I'm sure it was first rate. While they were up there they reconnected a bathroom vent hose to the roof vent that had come loose. I appreciated them taking the time from their job to do that. I'll definitely call them whenever I get around to having the Air Ducts cleaned.

Description of Work: They gave me a date and were here at the time they said. It took approximately 3 hours. They cleared the debris out of my attic which I was thankful for since I am a senior. They showed me the attic and what they were doing. I had a hole between my neighbor and I and they filled it in with drywall. They extended the exhaust pipe upward. They cleaned up after they left. They made sure nothing was on my floor and vacuumed. They disposed of all my debris.

Gary was very accommodating. I wanted to be sure that he was here before the job started to make sure that the workers knew exactly what to do and wanted Gary to be here when the job was done, but before the men left in order to make sure that Gary was satisfied with the work. He did all this and I was very happy with the work, and all the guys that came to do the work. Everyone was very nice, polite and just good people. There was no mess, they left my house as it was when they came (except better insulated) :) Gary even helped us save money by having us lay the vapor barrier down ourselves. We have yet to do this, but have confidence that we can do it right as Gary told us what material to use, plus there are DIY sights that describe what to do. Additionally, Gary and his crew helped me brainstorm how to better weatherize my room that used to be a breezeway (no way to insulate it). They all were just so pleasant and cool. I cannot say enough about how positive the experience was. If I need any other work done that Alpine does, I will call Gary first!

I would say Doug Hall was very good and knowledge. The installers Brandon and Jason knew what they were doing since I would look in the attic as they were doing the job. In additional I call around to different companies( Angies List and yellow pages) and in my experience, this was most knowledge and reasonable. I would recommend to other people and I would use in the near future again for other sevices.

Garry did the best job of checking out exactly what needed to be done of all the companies that come to make a bid. He was the only one who actually got up into the attic space to take a look around. That is when he found that the bathroom vents were not properly installed. His estimate was very detailed. However, the price seemed way out of line with the other bids I had received. Because I had been impressed by his investigation of what needed to be done, I called him to ask about the price difference. He was very professional and allowed as how that estimate did seem very high and maybe he had gotten some figures crossed up somewhere along the line. He then gave me a new estimate over the phone which was more in line with the others. The workers arrived on time, were very professional and finished the work on time as promised, which was great because I had an appt I had to make. They cleaned up beautifully and even helped me move some furniture in the basement. A small task for them but a great help to me.
