We accepted an offer on our home. The buyer is allergic to mold and asked if she could have a mold test performed. We said absolutely. Someone from Alpine came out to conduct the test and a couple of days later we were told we had toxic black mold which was greatly upsetting. The buyer backed out of the sale and we did not blame her. My husband had someone from Alpine come out to tell us what it would take to remediate it. After looking around, the gentleman said he couldn't see mold anywhere but added that it most likely was in the air ducts. To remediate it would cost $2,800 to clean and treat the duct work and wipe down the walls plus we had to remove all the furniture and everything from the house. Estimates for storing the furniture were $300-400 per month plus $1,000 to move the actual furnishings. Afterward, we would have to pay $1,000 to move everything back. Alpine said that after this "treatment" they would guarantee the mold would never come back. I don't know how anyone can guarantee that as mold can pop up anywhere and at any time. So, the "fix" was going to cost $2,800 for something that couldn't be seen anywhere but assumed it was in the duct work. My realtor gave me a copy of the test report and I immediately got on the internet to learn what the numbers meant and to see just how bad this problem was. First of all, toxic black mold was not listed on the report anywhere. A different type of mold was listed but it's a common type and the numbers were below the "mean" and well within the legal range. In addition, the inside test for spores are to be compared to an outside test for spores. For some reason, there were no numbers showing the outside test. This test raised a red flag, and needless to say, we opted for a second opinion. We called another company to come out and they could not find any signs of mold either. We were told that it would be difficult to treat the duct work if some type of liquid was blown into it as the ducts were made of flexible material and any liquid would just lay in the bottom and not all would be blown out. He advised that if we had anything done, he would suggest replacing the ducts. He also suggested that before we made a decision, that we might want to have another test performed. We were given the name of Mold Diagnostics in Monrovia (they do testing and not remediation) and the person who came out has a Ph.D. in Microbiology. She could not find any mold either and the test results came back within the legal range and nothing showed that we had toxic black mold. She also reviewed the first test results and said the numbers were within the normal range. How can Alpine say we have toxic black mold when it wasn't on the report and how can they quote repairs for something we don't have and they can't see. They cost us a buyer for our home and almost cost us $5,000 for treatment and the removal, storage and return of our furniture and I'm very disappointed in them. I'm sure there is no recourse for such unprofessionalism but I hope this review will help others to be aware of any type of testing performed in their home and to research the results if they are at all questionable. Update The owner of Alpine, Dave, stopped by the house and spoke with my husband and then called me at work. He explained more in-depth about what happened in his conversation with the buyer of our home. He added that the type of common household mold shown on the test could possibly be interpreted as toxic black mold by a few people and that this was what the buyer was calling it. (Seems like a vague answer.) She told him she had been researching it on the internet and he said hat anyone can find anything on the internet to back up what they think is right. (My daughter and I could not find on the internet where this was considered toxic black mold.) Apparently this person wants to purchase a mold free home with zero mold counts and you won't find it in Indiana and would be hard pressed to find it anywhere. He also said he told her she would not find a home with counts lower than ours. As far as the remediation process, Dave said his employee should have prefaced it that if this person still wanted to buy our home, then this is what we should do to alleviate her worry. However, that is still a lot of money to spend just to alleviate someone's worry when nothing could be found. It also would have been nice if we were told that you won't find a home with counts lower than ours. Dave was out of town when his employee came by to give us an estimate and said he would have handled it himself had he been here so there would not be a lack of communication or understanding. For the most part and in all fairness, this company has great reviews so it must be a good company. Once in a while, you come across a transaction that doesn't go well and unfortunately this is one of them. It happens to everyone at some point in time. I won't say this is a bad company because they did not perform any work except for the test and I still question the results and how they were interpreted. However, they do not process the test. It is processed at a laboratory. Hence, the second opinion. I will say that what was communicated to us greatly upset us and if that happens to anyone, I would recommend talking to Dave personally for further clarification. Due to the fact that Dave went out of his way to stop by the house and then call me to clarify things, I will rescind the bad rating and give it a fair rating.

I spoke with Dave Adams and explained the heat/air conditioning issue in my hearth room. He said it sounded as if I needed polyurethane foam sealant blown into the bay window crawl space. However his company did not do that, but he could recommend a compentent contractor who does. I asked whether polyurthane is dangerous. Dave responded that he would not recommend someone who didn't know what they were doing. That contractor was one I contacted to provide an estimate and eventually hired.

The crew gave us a call to let us know they would arrive between 8:30 and 9:00. They arrived as promised, and went over the work order to ensure we were on the same page. The temperature was in the single digits, so they asked if we would want them to bring the equipment inside rather than open doors and windows as normal. They cautioned us that the noise might scare our dogs and cat, and we appreciated them letting us decide. We were told the job would take until about 1:00 in the afternoon, but they were cleaning up just after 11:00. Chris and T.J. were very professional during the entire operation, and answered any questions we had for them. The showed us the debris that they removed from the ducts, which confirmed that this should have been done prior to our moving in a few months ago. Finally, when they had cleaned the remaining dirt around the vents, and packed up all the equipment, Chris walked through each room to verify they had finished cleaning. After I paid them the full amount (Alpine does not ask for a deposit), Chris asked if we had any questions, before leaving. I want to add that if you have ducts that are as nasty as ours were, be prepared to clean the particles of crap that became airborne during the cleaning. They were only reasonable for cleaning the ducts and vents, not your whole house.

Soon after I went to their website, and called to schedule an appointment, Mr. Morris had quickly gotten a hold of me and set up an appointment date/time to come and check out the crawlspace and attic in my house. He arrived and did the inspection, and even told me a few minor fixes for attic, that I could for myself or hire a handyman for. However, there WAS mold in the attic and crawl space. He stated at the end of his busines that he'd have an estimate to me by the end of the day, the next day. I was made aware the mold was seemingly pretty serious and the cost would be a few grand worth. I was expecting as much. However, the estimate was never sent to me. After contacting Alpine a few separate times, Mr. Morris hand delivered the quote to my house, to ensure that I did in fact get the quote. I am still comparing quotes, before I make a final purchasing decision on who I am going to use for remediation.

We'd like to thank this member for taking the time to provide her feedback. We are not sure why she never received our quote; we emailed it twice after trying to verify her email address. Whether it got caught in the spam folder or somewhere else is not clear, however, when we realized she never received it via email, our project manager drove to her home on a Saturday morning to hand deliver the quote himself. We can certainly understand this member's frustration as it must have appeared that our company was not following through. In communications with this member since, we have apologized for the email failure and have given our assurance that she is important to us as a customer. We hope that when she is ready to have the necessary work done, she gives us a chance to prove ourselves to her. Again, we apologize to this member for the frustration she experienced and we thank her for providing us with her valuable feedback.

Dave Adams came to house and spent a substantial amount of time answering many questions! He provided us a quote before he left, and we scheduled the work for as soon as possible the next day with the office staff. Only had to wait two days! 2 installers arrived on time the scheduled day. They introduced themselves to me, and explained what they would be doing. They put on overshoes for walking in the house. They worked diligently for approximately 4 hours, and vacuumed the small amount of material that was sprinkled on the path that they had to walk, afterwards. Oh! They laid tarps from the garage door to the attic, too. Workers were professional, diligent, and friendly, too! Have used Alpine Group for insulating crawl space of previous home with the same great outcome. And Dave had the opportunity to sell more inches of insulation, but he explained to us why the additional insulation would not pay us back because of the particular configuration of our roof. wow! That doesn't happen very often! Almost forgot! We didn't even have to ask for the discount that Alpine Group was advertising on Angie's List. Dave just showed it in his written proposal!
Description of Work: Insulated attic and around portions of basement band boards. Before blowing in insulation, built foamboard dams around attic fans, and installed soffit baffles around perimeter of attic to ensure proper ventilation at soffit vents. Also installed insulation on a portion of the band boards in basement.

I called for an estimate, and Dave came out the next day. He was very knowledgeable and explained how the insulation had settled in the attic and how much more we needed to add. He recommended replacing the old, dirty vapor barrier in the crawl space. He also recommended adding a vent in the crawl space to aid in keeping that side of the house warmer upstairs. The weather was horrible the day the work was to be done. I would have been fine with rescheduling for another day, but the crew wanted to come. They called about being delayed which I appreciated. They could not have been nicer. The crew of three worked quickly, put drop cloths down, and cleaned up afterward. They could not have been nicer, and I would definitely use this company again.

Two employees arrived on time. They were very good on explaining what would happen and what the best way to deal with an indoor cat while they did the job. They laid drop cloths every where the main hose laid. They also wore protectors on their shoes. Very professional overall. It took a long time to setup and tear down. They covered all vents that were not being worked on. Once they started cleaning the ducts it went pretty quick. I would recommend them to anyone. My house has less dust in it and doesn't smell closed up anymore. My family does not sneeze as much either, dust allergies. It was completely worth the money.

It went very well. Workers were on time and took care to protect the property from outside soil using shoe covers indoors and drop cloths around the access area to the attic. They worked efficiently and completed the project promptly. They provided a photographic record of the work performed in the attic and a good explanation of what was done and why. They asked if I had any questions or needed more information. While in the attic they inspected to insure that soffit vents were not obstructed. Baffles that had deteriorated over time were replaced by product manufactured with better materials. They vacuumed their work area and the path they used to access the attic.

The crew arrived promptly for the appointment. They removed mold stains that have been in the attics for decades and then applied a mold-repellent product to protect the wood. It's "attics" because the one-story wing of my house has its own separate attic. I was shown cellphone pictures of the newly cleaned wood. The job took only four hours and the smell of the chemical cleaner wasn't too bad. The initial call to estimate the job made a favorable impression because there was no attempt to "upsell" the work. I didn't require additional insulation as I'd feared. All in all, it was an easier process than anticipated.

From the very beginning, my experience with the Alpine Group was great. Dave came out to do an estimate and explain what he would recommend, as well as areas where I could save some dollars by doing things myself---he did not try to oversell me things I did not need (which as a female I appreciated!). When his team came out to do the work, they were extremely professional right from the get go: they explained exactly what they would be doing, cleaned up everything afterwards, and took the time to show me exactly what had been done to ensure it was to my satisfaction. After they left, I had an issue unrelated to their work, but I sent an email to ask if they had any ideas as to how to remedy the situation. To my surprise, they actually sent a team back to help me fix the issue, even though it had nothing to do with the scope of work they performed--WOW! Talk about going above and beyond! I would definitely recommend this company--great work and wonderful people! Thanks Chris and Dave!

It went really well. They explained all their different services and then I choose the ones that i felt were relevant to us. I asked them if they would put a dehumidifier, they ordered it and installed it. They didn't request any payment until after the whole job was done, not even a down payment. They were very thorough and came within a couple of weeks of when I called them. The workers were great, esp Curtis and Mark. Dave Adams, the owner would come to the job site and make sure everything was being done correctly. We would definitely have them back.
