terrible experience. paid 9000.00 up front and never heard a word for 2 months. The owner kept putting me off until i contacted WIBC which they advertise with. The very next day Tom called and acted surprised that i was upset. Finally started over 2 months after taking deposit. It wound up taking 6 months to complete the job. Meanwhile the sub that did the roof came to my house and said Tom couldn't pay him because we hadn't paid Tom. Then Tom came to me right before xmas wanting more money so he could give siding sub money for xmas because his brother had passed away. In the end we payed the siding sub ourselves because you cannot trust Tom Meir. Then Tom told me to write the check for the balance out to him and not the company. I assume to avoid taxes. He also has never sent me any paperwork for my warranty. Do yourself a favor and don't even talk to this con man.

The roofing job was decent. However, the gutters were put on very poorly, and I had to have the gutter foreman come out again to try to adjust them. The adjustments made were a temporary fix. The gutter installers who worked for All Star Roof Siding & More Inc. did a very poor job. The downspouts were not flush with the gutters, so the rain would leak from the downspouts. The gutters had multiple drill holes in them where they misjudged on attaching them to the house, so they leaked when there was a lot of rain. They did not slope the gutters enough, so when it would rain, water would build up at one end and drip over the side. It was almost like they did not know how to attach or install them. After about two and a half years, my gutters came loose from my house and were falling off the house. This was caused from the continuous weight put on the gutters by the standing water and the poor installation. I contacted the All Star Roof Siding & More Inc. company owner to try to fix them. He said they would. However, they have failed to come out and fix them after 2 months. Once he said that they would fix them, he will not return my calls. I would not hire All Star Roof Siding & More Inc. to do my roof or gutters because if they mess up, they come out and make a temporary fix. The temporary fix might not last. They are also very hard to get a hold of, if something is wrong.
Description of Work: I had my roof replaced by All-Star. They also did my gutters.

Included in the Scope of work was: new roof, repair siding, deck repainted, gutters and downspouts, etc. His team was made up of workers who spoke not a word of English, except for the supervisor, who was not there all the time. As a result, I could not communicate with the workers, who were very nice, but stomped all over my flower beds. I sat in my car and cried one day. We were happy when the job was finished, but here is the rest of the story: 1. Chimney siding repair - siding is bent and doesn't meet with the roof line. I met with the supervisor and he said that was as good as it gets. And, stock trim on custom siding - looks terrible. 2. Exhaust stack on the front roof is crooked and allowed water to leak into the garage ceiling. This is a bad leak. 3. Leaks all inside the Den and Master Bedroom near the skylights. A third party inspected the roof and said that the skylights were improperly installed and that nail pops were all over the back side of the home, allowing rain water to leach in. He called it "shabby workmanship." We had another inspector take a look and he said exactly the same. 4. We contacted Tom Meyers when we first noticed and leaks and he assured us he would take care of the roof and repair the drywall damage in our home. This was four months ago. 5. Tom Meyers is no longer returning our calls. We are senior citizens, and AllStar has hung us out to dry and will has taken a huge chunk of the equity in our home if these issues are not addressed.

No work was performed because after the initial contact Tom Myers did not return any phone calls.
Description of Work: No work was performed by All Star Roofing. We had a leak around our chimney. After many repeated attempts of contacting Tom Myers over a couple weeks, we gave up and went with someone else who came out immediately and did a temporary fix until the weather cooperated. Then about a week later when the weather permitted, the job was completed by the roofer who did the temporary fix.

It took them over 90 days to complete a job they promised to complete in 30. They were constantly giving me excuses to why they weren't there working. I've had a multitude of issues. They removed the gutters and had them down for an extended period of time and just put them back up. I finally was able to speak with the owner and he helped make things happen but I had trouble with the foreman throughout the rest of the project.

Our neighbors referred us to ALL STARR. We were able to receive our estimate in a timely manner. They honored our Angie's List coupon which was quite a savings. We waited until the fall to get roof replaced because we wanted it to be done when I was able to be home from work for a week (Fall Break time). The workers were professional and hard working - we went through extremely cold temperatures and they kept working, it took a couple of very long days to complete the job. When we have lost shingles (due to heavy winds -- we live on a hill and they hadn't sealed with sunlight yet -- ALLSTARR was very prompt in sending out a crew to fix them. When we have reached the owner, Mr. Myers, he has been responsive and pleasant. We have never met him in person. Our only problem with ALL STARR was paperwork - the Sales Rep didn't write down our color choices after our meeting to select and contacted us 3 weeks later to meet again to choose the colors because he couldn't remember them and hadn't written them down. We also seemed to go back and forth a few times to request the write type of paperwork that our insurance company needed to release funds, but it was eventually resolved. Paperwork was handwritten, and couldn't be emailed. Typed/scanned/attachments would have been preferred and easier to send to the people we needed to send it too. Overall our roof looks nice, and we are pleased.

When our car experienced hail damage due to a storm in April, we contacted our insurance company to have our roof checked. My wife heard about All Star Roofing on a local radio station being endorsed by Dick Crum (Dr. Dirt). Tom Myers, president, came out and inspected our roof and said we indeed had hail damage. He marked all of the affected shingles and took pictures. When our insurance adjuster came out, Tom met him and walked around our roof with him. Two weeks later, we had a quote from our insurance company and a check for the roof. When Tom came out to look over the quote, he noticed that the amount DID NOT include installation of the new shingles. We brought this to the attention of the insurance adjuster and he acknowledged the mistake. He immediately put in a request for the additional labor to install the shingles and in two weeks had the second check. The team of workers completed the tear-off, felt and shingle replacement in a single but long day. The gutters and downspouts were replaced three days later by a contractor used by All Star. The roof and gutters look great and we are very pleased with the results. Tom Myers is very attentive, detail oriented, and was always available to answer our questions.

They are one of the best companies i have ever done business with. They did a really nice job for us. They came and did a very nice examination of what needed to be done, they were very personable, they were very professional, they did what they said they would do and there were a couple of things i pointed out to them that they had not done, they did it. If i needed any services from them, i would give them a call.

Response from All Star Roof Siding & More Inc
This is in response to the complaint from customer Wise. This was a $400 repair of roof caps. As owner of All Star, this is the first I have .heard of this situation and have not personally gotten a call from them. After reading this review, we went to our records and found a request for a full refund on 12/26/13. Our records also show that a check for $400 was issued to them on 1/6/14 as full refund. They state the work was completed on 10/1/13, we sent a full refund on 1/6/14 and now 4/15/14 they are filing a complaint? Also, I'm not sure what the "many issues" could be when we just replaced the ridge cap. And call it a "nightmare"? Obviously, we have an outstanding record with Angie's List, so there is no way I would purposely not get involved with an unhappy customer. Bottom line - we put on the ridge cap AND refunded their money. Tom Myers, owner

After the October 2012 hail storm, we were inundated with hail damage fliers and ads from many, many companies. Once we narrowed the choices down to a handful of businesses, my wife initially met the salesman, Dan, after she requested him to stop by for a quote. She explained that we had several contractors that we where looking at and we would talk things over together. She really liked Dan and after we talked to a few other companies we decided to go with All Star. We had Dan back out and he brought the owner Tom. They told us that they had plenty of money in the bank and, although they would prefer to be paid as work is completed, they assured us they would not need any of the money until we were able to get our insurance check back from the bank. They knew at the time that this can sometime be a lengthy process. We also inquired as to when they would start - especially on the roof - because cold weather was right around the corner. They told us that it would be less than ten days from that day. We signed up with All Star and sat back to let the work begin. Now the hard part is remembering all the problems we had for the next several months. Roofing About three weeks later and no work completed on the roof, I had to call Dan back and ask him why my roof was not replaced yet. He explained that a lot of people had signed up at the same time as us and the schedule had filled up. So he picked a new date for us which would be a few weeks later. I asked him how many sales people they had and he said four. I asked him how the three other sales people filled up five weeks of work at the exact time he was telling us our roof would be done in ten days. I calmly expressed my disappointment. A few days later our supplies showed up with no notice. I had previously asked Dan to tell the supply company to place the materials in a certain spot so we could get out of the garage. They were placed in a manner that blocked the sidewalk and blocked my wife's side of the driveway where she parks her car. I had to move what I could out of the way. A day or two later I came home to find my frosty roof being ripped off. Again, with no notice. (We had an 18-month-old at the time, and planning a nap time around the unpredictability of the roofing company was very difficult.) I talked to Dan about the temperature to make sure it was alright to be roofing on such a cold day. He assured me that it would get warm enough that day for the shingles to properly adhere to each other. I read the packing myself to try to understand the procedure. I also thought the roofers were a little sloppy. They threw the shingles off of the house and into the yard, scuffing the siding as the shingles fell, yet parts of the siding on the house were not hail damaged and were not getting replaced. I also spent quite a while scrubbing tar off of our brand new vinyl windows with Goo-Gone. Several of the ridge vents were either put on damaged or dented during installation. Dan also recommended that we not replace the two skylights that we have in our sun room because he was having a hard time finding units to fit. I told him I would like them replaced because I could see the dents in them. I gave him the serial number and model number on them. He called and said he could not find them. I called the skylight manufacture, and within seconds, spoke to a real person who explained to me that they do indeed have that same unit - the model number had simply changed. He gave me the exact model number and trim package that I needed to order. I passed the info along to Dan and his supplier had them in stock. I am not sure whose mistake it was, but they sent a different color of ridge shingle which did not match at all. I asked Dan about it when he stopped by to collect the majority of the insurance payment. He said that they must not make a three tab in that color (the rest of the roof was dimensional shingles) and that was the closest they had. I asked him to call the supply house and the supply house said they had it in the exact same color as our main shingle. Siding & Chimney The siding guys came out and did an ok good job on the siding. We had a few minor problems with them. They, of course, had to remove several light fixtures to replace the siding. One was not working after they replaced it so I had to take it off and found one of the wires was not connected. I went ahead and fixed that. About a month after they were done and Indianapolis was hit with several below-freezing cold spells, we realized our heat had been running nearly non-stop and the emergency heat light had been on a lot. I finally called our preferred HVAC guy out and he explained that the removable disconnect bar for the outside condenser unit disconnect box had been removed, turned 180 degrees and replaced. This completely disconnected the outdoor unit leaving only the electric coil to heat the house. I was not too upset because I rather enjoyed the warm air the electric coil put out and the fact the bar looked basically the same either way you put it in. However, we figured up our bill and the cost difference from having used the electric coil for over a month and we emailed the problem to Tom (the owner of AllStar). We explained that we would be deducting the normal overage on our power bill and the HVAC service call from their bill. He did not have a problem with that. The boss of the siding guys, Larry, showed up one day and wanted to talk about the chimney. He said he had looked at the chimney cover and cap and it all looked okay aside from being rusty. He said he could paint it and it would be fine. I told him that the insurance company had allowed the money for the cap to be replaced and it was really rusty so I would like it replaced. Dan had also recommended that we skip doing that work several times. I asked Larry to let me know a day or two in advance of them coming to replace it because I wanted to replace the wood around the cap first. Several weeks later as I was rushing out of the door, the siding guys were setting up to do the fix the chimney cap. I told them that I asked Larry to give me a head?s up. They asked if I would want tan metal to match the siding for the chimney wrap. I explained that they were supposed to redo the whole cover and cap and they said Larry just told them to wrap it. Their ladders were not tall enough for them to do a good job even wrapping the outside corners. When I got home I climbed up to take a look. It looked terrible, even from the ground. There were seams and sheet metal screws everywhere. The outside edge had about an inch gap. I quickly wrote Tom and explained this was not at all what Larry, Dan and I had talked about and I would be hiring someone else to do this portion of the work. Gutters & Downspouts The gutter guys showed up without notice several weeks later (which again caused issues with our 18-month-old?s nap time), but they were pretty quick and did a great job. Conclusion I was, of course, so frustrated at this point that I just wanted a few things finished up and to be done with these guys. I asked Tom to have the roofing crew come out and replace the mismatched ridge shingles and the damaged ridge vents. I was told that they would be out on a certain day and they came the day after that. They looked at me and said that they could not see the dents from the ground. I tried to explain that we could see them from our upstairs windows, and besides that, if I had wanted dented ridge vents I wouldn't have paid them to replace them in the first place. They came out again without warning several days later and replaced the ridge vents and ridge shingles...or so I thought. Later when I climbed up to the roof, I found out that they only replaced the one I could see from my bedroom. Soon after that, I finally got the second check from the mega bank and Tom came out to get the final payment. I told Tom again that I would like the damaged ridge vents fixed and they came out again and fixed them. There are few upsides to this story from the time we signed up until the end of this mess. Only time will tell, but the materials used (shingles, siding, gutters & downspouts) seem to be good quality once those items were finally fixed or completed correctly. There were a few things that still need touched up, but quite honestly I don't ever want to deal with these people again. We stressed that fact that we wanted advanced notice when things were scheduled to happen, but that did not occur. I don't feel like All Star earned the overhead and profit from the insurance payment (which I did a lot of the work on). They sure as heck didn't mind asking for the payment even though they did not send me the forms I requested for myself and the bank in a timely manner. I sure hope we don't have to go through another project like this again anytime soon, but if we do, we will be choosing another company.
Description of Work: After a heavy hail storm we initially asked them to tear off and replace the entire roof, all of the gutters and down spouts, all except one side of our vinyl siding and the chimney cap and cover. We later decided to go with someone else for the chimney cap and cover.
