I was referred by a coworker to this company because I was in need of cutting my backyard trees. I called the number on the company card, and a Andy Baber picked up the phone. I asked if he offered free estimates in cutting trees and he said yes. He came by a couple of days later to my home to give me a free estimate. He said that he would do the job for $3,000, but he lowered down to $2,500 because I was tight on budget. He came back a couple of days later to finalize the agreement. He said he wanted half of the money ($1,200) upfront in cash, and the other half ($1,300) at the end of the job or once the job was completed up to satisfaction. We both acknowledge that with the possibility of rain the job could be delayed but only until the there was a clear day to do the work. I took off from work to supervise the job. The job was suppose to occur on June 28th, 2013. That was a Friday. It did not rain that day, but due to the previous rainy weather of the day before, he called me to inform me that he was running behind. So we arranged the date to that following Monday, July 1, 2013. I also took day that day off. I waited all morning and afternoon but he never showed up. He did not answer none of my phone calls or text, until later that day. To tell me that his mother woke up with chest pains and he had to take her to the emergency room. He then told me that he will arrange sometime that week, the week of fourth of July, to come and cut the trees. But it never happened. I called him through the week and he avoided my phone calls. It was not until Friday, July 5, that we gained contact. He called me to inform me that he won't be able to do the job so he was going to hire a subcontractor to do it for him. After that phone call ended the subcontractor showed up and made an estimate. I called Andy again to ask for the money back. We agreed. He said that he will send it through the mail. On July 8, I received a text stating that he just sent the $1,200 in two envelopes in the mail and that I should get it in a couple of days. On July 9th, a Tuesday stressed and having anxiety attacks that I had to use my emergency inhaler several times since the day the contract was broken. I sent him a text informing him about how uncomfortable this whole situation has been and how I feel taken advantage of. And how one does not send money through the mail. He responded back " I have done this before its in two envelopes so you don't know what it it's" At this point I'm to the point of tears. I just want to remove my trees before a storm knocks them down and causes property damages to my house and or to the neighboring homes. I'm just trying to be a responsible homeowner and this is was I am faced with. At this point my daughter calls him hoping that she can get better feed back from him than I did. He told her that the money was sent on Monday, so then I should receive it by Friday, July 12. It came and went. I did not want to hear another story. So I gave him Saturday and Monday, hoping the mail was slow. Hoping that this man did not take advantage of me. But here came Monday, I waited until I got out of work to check my mail. And I received my usual mail, but no "two envelopes" were in the mail. I'm reduced to tears and frustration. Every day those trees are left standing, the stressed and anxious I become with the dangers that those trees impose. I feel such an idiot. I'm angry and shocked. And helpless. I can't trust anyone or any recommendation sites. I sent him a text today during work telling him that I gave him Saturday and Monday for the money to be delivered. And I asked him what will be our next form of action. The longer those trees stay up then the more endangered my family will be. The amount may be small, but I need the money to contract someone else to cut them down. On another note something that I noticed since signing up on Angie's List. This guy is warranteed and also has insurance. He told me that he does offer tree service but on his Angie's List profile tree service is not listed. Wouldn't this be a form of false advertisement. If he is insured for the jobs listed on here then what about the trees? Wouldn't the insurance company consider this a liability on his part. I can't think anymore. I hope Angie's List can help me or the people on here. I'm at my wits end. Who scams people like this. Good Lord, please help.
Description of Work: The company All Pro Landscaping owned by Andy Baber, was contracted to come and cut my trees with the agreement of 1/2 of the money upfront and the other half after the work was completed. He never completed the work. Never even started it. And now he won't respond back to my phone calls and/or text messages sometimes. Now there is no communication from him. And he won't return the money that was given upfront.
