The job went very well All of the work was completed within one day. It started to rain before they could paint my shutters so the men laid and taped paper to my garage floor and painted the shutters in the garage. They cleaned up and did not get paint anywhere. Very professional! Would definitely hire again.
Description of Work: I needed to have a new door put on my crawl space opening, a shield over the well and my shutters painted.

Response from Well Done Handyman & Home Renovations
I provided measurements from the exterior of the home and instructed the client to take photos from how we measured to ensure Menards understood how measurements were taken to account for differential for rough in. She did not provide them with photos and did not convey this and Menards made assumptions resulting in incorrectly ordered windows. Menards had several issues with her windows in ordering them correctly to the point when we arrived at the store to ensure that her windows were ordered correctly this time they knew her by name saying "poor lady" and grimacing when I walked in asking about her order as her order had been a complete debacle. I noticed Menards was measuring differently and so I provided new dimensions based upon how they were measuring. I recommended that this client seek a refund and that we would help her obtain her order elsewhere. Menards agreed to refund this client their money in full, but then refused and said client would have to pay a 25% stocking fee. This was different than what we were just told. Menards manager eventually agreed to have her windows re-measured and that they might be able to get a vendor to purchase those wrong sized custom windows so she could avoid the stocking fee. Once she felt they would do that, against my advice, she decided not to cancel her order. They were going to make her wait 2 weeks to pick up the 3 large incorrectly sized windows on her driveway so to relieve her stress at my own expense I paid the pick up fee ($89) for Menards to pick up the bad window and the cost of a temporary window ($190) until the new one arrives Throughout the day this client was still telling us she would be using us to complete the project and she asked if were going to be able to get her closet remodeled that day (that was a part of this whole remodeling project). Later that day I received a text from our business partner that Menards sent someone out to the house and that they were measuring the windows, it was then I realized that this customer was not going to have us complete the job but did not call to fire us until we had worked the whole day at her house installing that temporary window. Once we had completed installing the temporary window this client calls me telling me that she was firing me and that the windows were not measured correctly, she further told me that she would sue me if the windows were measured wrong the second time. I asked her "Menards came out today and measured your windows and agreed to order you new windows based upon their new measurements, so if they measured today and the order is based upon their new measurements, how would we be held responsible for their measuring the windows incorrectly when you are using someone else to measure and someone else to install? She denied several times that Menards came out and measured. I asked her why would our business partner text me Menards came out and measured if they hadn't? She eventually asked strangely "How would Richard know Menards came out and measured when he had left by that time?" She did not know that one of our other team members was there and saw them measuring. So I told her our other team member saw them measuring. She eventually admitted they had come out that day and measured. The following day we returned her check and hauled away the old window.

My father just passed away (July 31st verify this his name is Larry L Price Forest Lawn Funeral), I shared this with this member, despite dealing with this huge loss, I make sure 4 days business partner Richard ensures this member is taken care of, we complete this member's drywall project... and this member rates us negatively? They write: "it was pretty much a nightmare on my part..." Does their review seem insensitive? A bit one sided? Is this what reviews on companies has come to?

Had small project done with them before and went very well with excellent carpenter. This is a service that pretty much just coordinates subcontractors and some of them are excellent and some really don't know much about what they are doing. Several things had to be torn out and done again when another subcontractor found a problem. Job ended up taking twice as long and costing twice as much as estimated. Also beware, estimate is for labor only and not just the supplies you will think of such as tile, fixtures, mirrors that the customer would ordinarily purchase. They will charge you separately for every nail, screw, bucket of grout, piece of drywall. They don't protect the house from dust and don't even take away their debris. Also finishing was poor. We had to pay an additional $1000 to another contrator to repair and finish things in the bathroom project. They are fine for small projects but don't have the expertise for anything big.

To quote Adrian Monk: "here's what happened." LABOR ONLY- all of our agreements CLEARLY state this, we also verbally state this. So there is no surprise. The majority of our competitors quote labor and materials. We quote labor. Our competitors hope the homeowner does not do their homework and see that the materials represent a small amount, they also pad the material cost hiding their labor in it, this enables them to conceal what they are really charging. NO COMPANY DONATES materials nor do they manufacture materials. We all purchase materials from the same places (Menards, Home Depot, Lowe's, 84 Lumber etc) We merely separate our labor quote from the cost of materials. I always encourage clients when acquiring bids to ask our competitors not to include materials, just quote labor. My competitors don't like that as they lose $$$ on rebates from Menards and what they get from HD and LOWES. TIP: next time you need roofing done ask the roofer for just a labor quote and watch how they respond, they lose a lot of money when you do that but you pocket it. It's YOUR money. Our labor only policy not only saves our clients money but once they understand it creates trust as they see we are being transparent. HUSBAND & WIFE FAILING TO BE ON SAME PAGE WITH EACH OTHER and communicate with each otherThe husband decides after his wife leaves Indiana (they were getting ready for moving to the east coast and she was not there for the majority of the remodel) to have us build a bulkhead, that adds time and cost to a project. Also when the wife returns she opts for custom tile work (this was very small pieces of tile work about 1 inch x 3 inches per piece) that adds time. DOG SOILED 1970's CARPET- The wife complained about her husband's lack of taste in design (they had green carpet from the 1970's, that was soiled and grungy from their dogs, it was quite gross), in his wife's absence he asked us to ditch his wife's idea of tiling the bathroom floor and find matching carpet to his 70's carpet. Knowing his wife would not be too happy with that I asked him if he was sure his wife would be happy, also we didn't want to begin doing half carpet half tile only to have his wife come home and complain and we have to begin again, he assured us that it would be okay. His wife returns home while I am not there and one of my team members is there doing the floor and confirms our concern and she yells at her husband, and then she and her husband instruct our team member that they will be doing a custom floor. CHANGE ORDER- this customer on several occasions attempted to get substantial free additional work completed without an agreement and at no charge without our knowledge as owners As owner I was not expected to show up when we were laying the last half of tiling the floor, so the husband and wife attempted to have custom tile work completed in my absence hoping I would not check on it, but we go over all details. I walk in and find our team member doing custom tile work, I wait and husband walks in surprised with lunch to feed our guy, he thought McDonald's would be sufficient compensation for the custom work. LOL. I told him "This is custom work. You all have attempted to do several change orders without anything in writing this is going to be extra." He replied "I know, charge whatever is fair. STANDING OVER SHOULDER- the husband was an engineer (not in construction) and thought his engineer experience qualified him to oversee each and every detail, so his method was to stand literally 6 inches to 2 feet away during every minute we were there working. Not only did it make our guys feel uncomfortable (it was a bit weird) but also not conducive for moving around getting tools. He asked questions about every single thing about construction. I noticed he had purchased a book on being a handyman, I guess he was trying to pick my brain about this industry "WE LOVE YOUR WORK" Along the way they complemented our team member Charles on the framing of the new wall (we expanded the space and square footage of their bathroom) and bulkhead) and our team member James as well as Paul for the tile work. But when it came time to pay the wife was there instead of the husband, she complained about the price of the bathroom being more than the original agreement. I simply pulled out the changes and change orders they made in the process and the additional time and cost was obvious to see. I asked her "you and your husband requested those changes, how am I as a contractor responsible for added time to a project YOU requested?" She said "well I am not happy at all." I asked her "what aren't you happy about? Along the way you inspected and signed off on each task we completed stating to our team members and myself that you were very happy and loved our work." She simply replied "how much do I owe you?" It came down to her final bill. She simply was mad at her husband for making some changes along the way and she simply did not want to pay. It was easier being mad at us than at him. As it pertains to clean up and hauling away. We did clean up and vacuum and we not only hauled away the debris from demolition we also hauled some things away for them at no charge.
The job went very well; I was on in a time crunch because this repair work was holding up other scheduled remodeling work and they were able to start the repair work immediately. It was approximately a 16 hour job with as many and 3 men off and on depending on skill set. The workmen arrived early and sat in front of my house until the agreed upon start time every morning. They were as neat as possible while working and cleaned up thoroughly every day before they left. I am very happy with the final results. Pros: 1) EXCELLENT workmanship; 2) Punctuality; 3) Estimate labor and materials separately so you know exactly what you are paying for; 4) They explained what they were doing every step of the way. 5) There were no "hidden" costs. When they ran into minor issues they didn't try to charge me more. Cons: 1) A little higher priced than other estimates that I received; 2) Customer buys materials which didn't cost much, but now I have an entire bundle of insulation, drywall and a sheet of wood that I will probably never use. 3) Customer is responsible for waste disposal (in my case anyway; maybe not the case on all jobs), which was only about $40 more at the city dump so don't know why they don't just include this in their service. Despite the cons, overall I am happy with the work and would use them again.
Description of Work: Remove/Replace water damaged studs in master bath; install insulation, drywall and paint same area. Remove/Replace water damaged subfloor in master bath; Remove/Replace water damaged, arched subfloor in hall bath; Diagnose and repair arched joist.
everything went really well. every deck person quoted us just for what was on top since they couldn't see underneath. these guys gave us very competitive pricing (1k for materials, 2k for work) while all over deck people were $3800 or above. we had to pay more when they discovered what was underneath but the final amount paid was still below a few of the original deck quotes. i also liked how they quoted labor separately from materials.

FINAL PROJECT ISSUES: When you look at everything in my home at a glance, it looks great and well done overall. Looking closer, you realize many shortcuts were taken during the process. All the trim work was slapped together in both the closet, door opening in living room, and kitchen. The boards warp out because the correct size was not used, no quarter rounds were used on top in the closet so it looks unfinished, and you see all the nail gun holes in the trim. I just had them come back and fix some of the projects I felt weren't done accurately, and it took over a day to fix them. I appreciate them coming back to fix their issues, but I still had to go back and sand and repaint some things myself. The project that I feel is most obviously done poorly is the floor where they took out part of my wall in the living room. He had me go pick out a piece of wood that looks like my floor (my floor is over 100 years old with original hardwoods so that was obviously not going to look right) and then just slapped the piece down where the wall was taken out, and no where else in the entry so it sticks out like a sore thumb. I brought it up to David, the contractor, and he said that we only agreed to do the basic work and they were not responsible for making it look good. I guess that was our agreement, but it was laziness like this that was most frustrating. Also, some of my original hardwoods have a slight white stain on them now because they were not cleaned properly after the projects were complete. PAYMENT: Frustrating process. When they got one project done and the remainder of the bill was due, he bothered me nonstop until he received payment. One day he called me three times in a row, texted me twice, and left me a voicemail about how they were finished and needed to get paid that day for their hard work. (This is after I had already paid him in full for one project, and half was down for the second- so already some payment was done.) I was at work at an event and literally could not answer my phone. I told him I was going out of town the next day for work so I could pay him the following day after that. He went on and on about how his men deserve to get paid that day and we had a deal and I wasn't holding up my side. I ended up putting a check in my mailbox for him to come get it so he wouldn't be so mad. You also are required to reimburse them for all materials. This is fine in theory, but looking over the receipts, I can't help but think I'm overpaying for all materials. I pay for a full box of nails for a small project, garbage bags totaling $100, etc. He did do some nice things for me without asking for payment for it, like taking away a huge thing of trash I had for free. But when I brought up feeling like the trash bags could not have been that much when he charged me for them, he held over my head the things he did for free, and not act like he was nickel-and-diming me. (He eventually did take off $50 for trash bags.) CONTRACTOR ISSUES: David tends to blame everyone for any issues other than himself. As the contractor, he needs to take responsibility for these issues and fix them instead of blaming all his workers (or me, as he did sometimes) for things not going right. I've seen him call out his workers in front of me so they have to take blame instead of him, and they are very clearly frustrated at him. I work from home often during the day and cannot help but think most things would have been done incorrectly if I were not home to be constantly checking up and correcting them myself. POSITIVE THINGS: They were on time and early most days, the projects were completed in a decent timeframe, and I always felt safe having the workers in my home. David was easy to get a hold of when I needed to talk to him. The projects as a whole were done fairly well, it was just sloppiness of work that I cannot deal with.
Description of Work: Opened wall for closet, dry walled wall for closet. Exposed brick. Opened wall in living room partially. Replaced tile in bathroom. Kitchen: Tore kitchen to studs, re-dry walled, raised ceiling to roofline, added skylights and windows

What's NOT in this review? QUALITY (this member gives us a D for quality, anyone reading this review, ask, I will happily show you before and after photos. It looks beautiful. She was bragging about the final look to the extent that she commented when we returned that the manufacturers of the skylight we installed told her they would like to use a picture of her kitchen in their magazine, does that sound like a D in quality? :) UNSAFE ENVIRONMENT/ELECTRICAL/CUTTING CORNERS . (I warned her of an preexisting electrical issue in her kitchen recommended hiring a licensed electrician instead she wanted to use "her guy" some non licensed electrician to save money. One of our team members while working on the skylights framing and installing got shocked. I told her we won't continue this project unless she gets a licensed electrician to fix that issue. She finally did). UNSAFE LIVING ROOM FLOORING & WANTING FREE WORK. The flooring like the house (100 years old) is old (as she writes in her review). It has many holes and imperfections. We notified her that when we expanded the flooring that there would be a need to piece in another piece of wood. We told her to locate something to put in the place of the missing wall she chose a piece and once it was installed she wasn't happy with it. Is it our fault that this customer did not locate a piece she would be happy with? While we were working on her home she asked us several times on many occasions to do work for free. One of these requests for free work was to repair all of her living room floor. Let me say it this way- there are several holes and you can see the basement/cellar from the living room. She simply either did not comprehend how much time it would take or didn't care. RETURN TO COMPLETE WORK- the truth is she had signed off on the job and paid for the work a while back. Later when tax time came she noticed a receipt for materials that she was due for $95.67. She contacted me and I shared with her that she actually owed us more than that in unpaid materials but decided to eat it and not call her about it. She still wanted her money, I told her no problem, I still won't ask for what she owed us and she was pleased, so I wrote her a check. While dropping off check I asked her if there were any remaining issues, was she happy, she said how much she loved her kitchen but shared with me that the trim we installed had not been caulked and that a ledge behind her stove onto some revealed brick that we did for her was not low enough. So I offered to come back, she initially refused, but I said we would like to make you happy, she said she would think about it, eventually we set an apt to come and we set aside other appointments (the two days she references negatively saying it "took them 2 days" was our way of saying no matter how long it takes and even though it's been some time since we were here last we will take care of you). Instead of calling us as soon as she saw the holes not caulked she should have called us and we would have caulked the holes and then she could have primed and then painted, instead she tried to fill the nail holes with paint- only making matters worse. SPEAKING TO TEAM MEMBERS. This client is blowing this out of proportion. When a client points out an issue and one of our team member who performed the work is on the job site I will pull them over so the client can ask their question and the team member can explain what they did and why and if not satisfactory to the client the team member will redo it. They are professionals, they can handle adult discussions. SPEAKING ILL OF US TO OUR OTHER SERVICE PROVIDERS- When it was not possible to have our company complete the kitchen cabinets phase I located a cabinet maker and this client was super pleased with their work. However this client began trying to get this cabinet maker to convince us to provide some work for free in his words "she is afraid you will charge her extra for any work she has not contracted you for." UNLEVEL FLOORING IN KITCHEN- one of the items she asked us to do over was a ledge behind the stove. We lowered it to her desired location. We did, however her kitchen floor is not level so she asked us to mud the ledge uneven like the floor (completely serious) We said we would not do that (originally we're scheduled to do the flooring, at the time I told her the floor joists below the flooring was not level and would need leveled and then we would be able to install the flooring and because this was going to cost more money she just had another company install flooring on a non level floor, so the floor sinks down so much so, as a result it made our ledge look off). NON AVAILABILITY FOR PAYING FOR MATERIALS - while our quote was for labor only and not materials she often was not available for paying for materials so we often had to come out of pocket to pay for materials. PAYMENT ISSUES- After our initial apt when I learned that she was going to be very difficult to get payment from we simply divided the whole remodeling project into several phases, when one phase was complete we would have her pay us for that part and move onto the next phase as a new project. That way we got paid in full for each project individually and could pay our guys. We charge by the job and not by the hour. She kept on trying to get us to go hourly. I told her she knew going into this that we did not charge hourly because it becomes nearly impossible to manage, especially on a large project. Bottom line, she simply did not want to pay. POSITIVE- Before and after, this was a fun project, very rewarding outcome craftsmanship wise, that she liked my vision and ideas for making her living space feel larger (expanding the door way, vaulting the kitchen ceilings, adding skylights, repurposing the old brick chimney and wood slats) , also she was very flexible schedule wise so we were able to get team members over there easily.

THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS! Angie's List made an error, sent out a heavily discounted deal WITHOUT our knowledge or consent and WE ARE BEING PENALIZED FOR THEIR ERROR. We run Big Deals strategically. There are certain seasons where our workload cannot support such a deal. This is such a season. In the past and in every case, we initiated the deal, had a conversation with a AL rep AND SIGNED A CONTRACT. None of this occurred in this instance. We were blindsided by this situation and we are unable to and should not be expected to take the hit for Angie's list's presumption. We were shocked that our company had been contracted out without our consent. We informed the customer that we knew nothing of this deal and that AL would refund their purchase. Yet, still realizing our innocence in this, this customer chose to satisfy his pique by attempting to harm an upstanding company. His vitriol should have been spewed on the guilty party and not on our company.

When I initially called,a voice mail instructed me to text my address and phone number. l did this. The next day I texted again with my address and phone number. I still hadn't heard from them so I left a voice mail asking them to just let me know if they are not going to follow up. I then received a text message at 6:37 AM asking what the nature of my project is. I responded that it is vinyl flooring. He then texted is it repair or replacement. I responded replacement for the kitchen and bathroom. At that point David, the owner, asked me to take pictures of all the rooms from every corner so he could figure how many cuts. I let him know I could not do this. Then he finally called me and arranged to come to provide an estimate at 5:00. I was home from work by 4:30. When he still wasn't here at 6:30 I called him. He said he is sorry that he is late but promised he will be here. At 8:06 PM he called and asked for my address. He said my address does not exist in google maps and that I am in Greenwood. I laughed and said no I am in Fishers and google maps works just fine for me. At that time he told me I am being rude. Then he sent me a google find your location, I accepted it so he could find me. I never heard from him again. He did not show nor did he call.

I shared with this customer that we were down 2 guys as well as currently doing 3 different projects so she would need to wait a week if she wanted a firm day and time, we normally run our appts 9:30am, 11am, 12:30pm, and 2pm but she needed after 5pm, i told her i was on a project, nature of this industry each house is different and impossible to give and guarantee to the minute, but if she was flexible i would come out that evening no matter how late. Despite completing project at 8pm in evening i kept my promise but called because [Member Information Removed] place shows up on gps as greenwood address and shes in fishers, so i said she would need to provide me directions, she replied "i am terrible with directions" i said "its impossible for me to know the location of every street, since GPS is showing your address in Greenwood instead of fishers and you cannot give me directions to your home i wont be able to find your house" to which she replied "that's your problem!" To which i replied "no need to get rude, simply saying need directions to your housr." She continued speaking rudely to me which quickly told me she would be a difficult customer to work with, she continued being rude and i discontinued the conversation. Some customers, on occasion dont realize that not only are they deciding which company to use but as owners we too are gaging how a potential acts toward us when we are first interacting to determine if it would be good to work on their project or not. Some prospective customers yell at us and their spouses in front us demeaning them and we take mental note that if they are willing to treat those they love that way how will they treat us. That was the case with this client. Unaware of any streets near them, couldnt name one main intersection, GPS shows address in different city and customer is rude and yelling on phone. Not a positive situation to pursue further.

Response from Well Done Handyman & Home Renovations
I appreciate new positive reviews but believe we've been confused with another company, this review likely belongs on another company. We do not offer Lawn mower or power tool repair.

Remodeling is stressful, but turned out very well. Luke suggested I move the drain from the end to the center of the shower, it would look better. Although it was a mess having to drill through the concrete slab, dust everywhere, the drain in the center of the shower does look nice. It took 8 days and I felt comfortable leaving Luke at the house when I had to leave several times. I gave him my garage opener in case he had to leave while I was gone.
Description of Work: Had tub/shower taken out and replaced with a walk-in porcelain shower in February 2017.

They sent a guy out who was very polite, and talkative. He was very prompt, and on task. He started his project, and it was nice weather. I gave him access to the house. I was doing my own project on the back deck. He told me that he loves older homes, and I did catch him looking at the homes design upstairs (Woodwork). He took his own little tour, and I just wish he would have asked. I would have been more than willing to show him (I was not far from him). This was a first story project only, and have discussed this with the owner (Who was not responsible for this at all). We all realized he was new to the company (New employee). It helped a little speaking with the owner. He did stay over the time that it was supposed to take as well. The work was quality work though, and he explained what he was doing very well. Besides that incident, everything went well. I have also bought another deal off the site, and the guy they sent out was different than the first guy for the windows. The second guy did two hours of work, and did an amazing job. I would request the second guy if I use them again.
Description of Work: I bought a deal $129 for Door and Window Weatherization and Sealing off of Angie's List.

1-23-17 I called phone number and was told to text / 1-25-17 I texted again and asked for reply that he had received it./ 1-28 left negative review on Angie's List and got phone call and text./ 3-8 got a text but no appt./ 3-28 got text that they were busy and a friend had passed away./ 4-10 had appt to install oven but night before time was changed from 9am to 1pm. One man came and uninstalled old oven and unpacked new oven. Said he had to leave to get appliance dolly. Came back 1.5 hr later with dolly and female helper. They took old oven and got new oven into opening. We are glad they finally came and were able to install new oven because a lot of places would not even consider the job.
Description of Work: Double Wall oven needed to be replaced. Needed guidance on size of new oven to buy, so that it would fit in existing opening.

it went horrible the man did not get permits. he did not do the room right now the floor is sinking instead of building a new floor from cemmente he had wet wood which was left out in the rain and flooring. the old flooring under Neath is cracking. he put in wet insulation and dry wall waster coming in the windows do not math the home the windows not put in right. the door is not ada approved home never inspected. benches are cracking no ramp or step to get in or out, celling not done or painted no duct work complete. now to have it done over 28,000 and health department involved he took the rest of the material that we paid for. tried to rip us off at the bank. he charged extra to paint the room which is not working because of wet walls. the windows door are not cocked floor in even dents in floor now you can see the water coming I. the siding not on. the siding does not match or wood trim he used old gutters on the home no new sifits or gables. window have film coating that can not get off nail haning out of windows. there is a lot more.. he needs to give our are money back plus to have another company come in and redo it it which will cost over 28,000 plus what the health depart finds they said it could spread to the rest of the home.
Description of Work: he was supposed to do a four season sun room which is not. this company did not do anything right according to codes in Hendricks county Indiana he did one man to do the project. which the work was horrible and took a 82 year old and her disabled daughter to the cleaners. it was sloppy and in professional. at best he changed the plans in the middle came out twice to check up on the work. which was very sloopy and did not think of the clients best interest at all. there is so much that he did wrong that this is not a good business to even do anything.

They were pretty awful. I was having a couple different maintenance items done to my house, including an door replaced. It took forever, didn't do a good quality job. When I say forever, I say three months. I didn't get another quote. They had a good reputation on Angie's List, and they sucked. Its aggravating more than anything. They were on time at my house.
Description of Work: Replaced an door. They had to redo the door three times. They got it basically right the third time. Not outstanding, but I was at the point I was done. They replaced an door handle. Some tile work. All which was not good work.

Work completed but mediocre results. Appear to be inexperienced with bathroom tile projects. Had to re-grout multiple areas after they were gone from project. Finished product was rushed as they moved on to next job.
Description of Work: Bathroom Remodeling > Shower / tub demo and replacement with tiled shower > Tile floor install > New Sink drop ins
