Hallway re-stretches are sometimes difficult but, fortunately, this one was an easy fix. I don't think that 'lump' will ever show its face again.

Ajax Carpet Service used too much water when cleaning the carpet. Denis Mamelson is the owner and they used so much water they buckled the carpet. I would tell people to watch them. They wanted to move a lot of stuff and they weren't capable of that. One of them was quite old. I don't think the other one was physically capable of moving things. They were on time. He told me it was going to be real wet but it would pop right back, but it didn't.

Dear Member, Work Completed Date: February 13, 2013. The job was done November 28, 2012. He has a copy of the invoice #4794. Perhaps someone else did some work for him on February 13. Approximate Cost: $200 The work I did was valued at $295 but, as I always do for Angie’s customers, I did the job for $265. See the last line in the above explanation. Ajax Carpet Service used too much water when cleaning the carpet. Water comes through the 3 jets on my floor wand and I have no control over that flow. It sometimes becomes necessary to re-clean some areas that are heavily soiled, which would mean water is once again being introduced to flush out the pre-sprayed chemical that releases the soil. I did the [Member's name removed] job 6 1/2 months ago and do not remember exactly the soiled condition but I do not think it needed extra cleaning. Silly comment. ... they used so much water they buckled the carpet. Part of this is explained above. There are times slight wrinkles might appear while cleaning. They might even become more pronounced by the time a carpet cleaner finishes the job. Before I start cleaning, if I see that the carpet is loose and perhaps needs a re-stretch, I bring it to the customers attention that wrinkles might appear as I clean. If the carpet does not appear loose wrinkles still might appears while cleaning. If that happens I bring it to the customers attention immediately with an explanation of why it happens. Carpet is constructed by tufting the yarn into what is called the ‘Primary Backing’. It then runs along the roll line upside down and a specially formulated latex solution is spread on the entire backing. A ‘Secondary Backing’ is introduced into the latex and the carpet runs through a series of rollers that press and seal the two backings together. This gives the carpet ‘Dimensional Stability’ which allows it to be stretched in every direction without compromising the integrity of the carpet. Without this ‘latex’ there would be no wall to wall carpet. Now here’s what happens when the latex gets damp ... it swells. When it swells, guess what, it pushes anything that is in its way, which happens to be the primary backing, which is holding the carpet yarns in place. Therefore, wrinkles may appear on the carpet surface. When the carpet dries it always returns to the same condition it was before the carpet was cleaned. The only time it may not is because the carpet was in need of a re-stretch before the carpet cleaner arrived. I have cleaned 100’s of thousands of square feet of carpet, many of which were wrinkled when I left the house, including one I did a week ago today. I called him two days later and he said, just like I told him, the wrinkles were gone. I did a lawyer’s office where the wrinkles looked like Lake Michigan on a stormy day. They were everywhere and about two inches high. I did the job on a Saturday. I called Monday. The office manager said the wrinkles disappeared. They wanted to move a lot of stuff and they weren’t capable of that. There are some large items I have not moved on jobs and customers always understand that and do not want me to move them anyway. However, there has never been an item I wanted to move that I was not capable of moving. I am very capable of moving anything I want to and did on this job. Again, and there will be no need to keep bringing this up, this job was done 6 1/2 months ago and there was nothing unusual that stood out that would make me remember. But I do remember moving some furniture. I also see by the price I gave that I did not charge anything extra for moving them. One of them was quite old. I don’t think the other one was physically capable of moving things. This ridiculous comment really p***** me off! First of all, the person he is referring to is actually several years my junior. We humans do not exactly age the same outwardly. But he is correct that Steve is not capable of doing extra physical work. But I AM! Steve and I worked together for over 10 years. I have gone through several ‘helpers’ in my 35 years in business and all of them combined could not equal the value Steve had been to me. At this point he cannot work with me anymore and is collecting disability, something he should have been doing before. But he has been a loyal cleaning ‘partner’ and I have always taken care of him, which meant Steve does no heavy moving. I do it all. Furthermore, what difference does it make to [Member's name removed] which one of us did the heavy work. It got done. that’s all that matters. He told me it was going to be real wet ... Not True! I have NEVER told anyone that the carpet would be real wet and certainly did not tell [Member's name removed] that. I actually take pains to explain the opposite, how I make a “dry stroke” with the wand, a stroke using no water, just vacuuming up as much of the water as possible. Not all cleaners do this but I always do. ... but it would pop right back. I do not specifically remember discussing any wrinkles but if I did, then he is correct, I would have told him the wrinkles would be gone when the carpet is dry. They ALWAYS ARE! FINAL NOTE. I do not have a clue why [Member's name removed] is on this witch hunt. I did the job 6 1/2 months ago and all of a sudden he sends a nasty, unwarranted report about my business. If there was any concern on his part the logical thing to do would have been to call me. While I do try for perfection on every job, I must admit that I really am not perfect. It is very rare, but I have gone back on a job to take care of a customer’s concern. Had [Member's name removed] called me two or three days later I would have been happy to go to his house to see if any corrective measures could have been taken. But he did not. I consider this report totally bogus. Since he said the job was done on February 13, 2013 it makes me wonder perhaps that someone else did some work for him and he got confused. This actually happened to my cleaning partner years ago. I am nothing but an A rated company with Angie’s List and have earned every one of those A’s. I take great pride in my work and my association with my customers. I always treat them right. I aim to leave every customers home as a friend. I did that leaving the [Member's name removed] home and he even allowed me to hang door hangers on some neighbors homes saying he was “extremely pleased”. The day I measured his house and gave him a price (which he accepted yet gave my price a B grade. Can’t figure that one out. He could have hired someone else.) we actually sat and talked sports for a long time. We both enjoyed the conversation and I had to tear myself away because I had other work to do. I have just taken a lot of time to refute the undeserved report. It is time that should have been given to other things but, being very serious about my business and defending my reputation, I had no other choice but to sit here at the keyboard. I trust that his report will not be something to deter Angie’s List members from calling me. I would hope they will see every other report that has been submitted relating to Ajax Carpet Service and see the Edmund report for what it is ... a mere aberration. Dennis Mamelson

An estimate was given about a month before the work was actually done. The work was performed and charged for the exact amount of the estimate. The owner(s) arrived on time and were very professional. Very nice people and enjoyed getting to know them during the time they were performing the work. The carpet looks great after it was cleaned. The patch also was done at a high quality and looks like it belongs there. Absolutely zero complaints and I would definitely suggest using this company for all your carpet needs.
Description of Work: Carpet cleaned in 4 bedrooms, hallway and 14 stairs. Also patched in a piece of carpet that had an old stain that couldn't be removed (blue children's mouthwash).

I called Dennis and we arranged a time for him to come out and give me an estimate. I was pleased with the cost and the description of the work to be performed, we set a date for the cleaning. Dennis and Steve came out on time and ready to go, they worked h****** a carpet that is approx. 23 years old. I couldn't believe how clean my furniture and carpet were after they were done. I neglected to mention they also did my stairs ( a total of 12). I will have Ajak Carpet clean any carpeting I have again without any qualms.

Saw a coupon on Angies list for this company. After reading the reviews I bought the discounted coupon and called to schedule a cleaning. the owner came out on a Sunday for me to accomodate my schedule. He wrote up the estimate and it was only $15 over the coupon coverage whch was great. The cleaners came in the following Tuesday and did a great job- very professional and informativve. Left the place looking great. This is an example of why I try to support local small businesses

Dennis and his crew were extremely professional. They made only a minimal mess while cleaning but left no trace when they left. All employees were personable and Dennis went out of his way to help me out after my flooding issue. I would use this company again without any hesitation. After all the time Dennis spent at my place, I will be inviting him to my official house warming party when I have it. He is a very sweet and caring individual. You don't find this type of person with his work ethic very often. I am glad I found him on Angie's List.
Description of Work: I needed four large bedrooms and an extremely dirty hallway cleaned as well as a living room stretched and cleaned. Dennis and his crew were on time and very professional. I was not sure the living room carpet could be salvaged. It had four or five ripples in it as well as multiple stains. I thought if it can't be cleaned to my satisfaction that I would rip it out and start new. After several hours of work, the carpet looks brand new. Three of the four bedrooms were not too dirty or stained but a fourth bedroom and the hallway were in pretty poor condition. The hallway was given several cleanings. When Ajax left, everything looked good. However, after drying for several days, I asked Ajax to come back and redo the fourth bedroom as well as the hallway again because they still were slightly stained. With no hesitation, Dennis came back out and did a wonderful job. Both carpets looked as good as the rest of the house. The next day, I accidentally left some water running for eight hours (bonehead move, I know) in the fourth bedroom and I was just sick that I had ruined this carpet after all that had already been done. I called Dennis for some advice and he said he would be over in a few hours to see if he could save this carpet. After removing the carpet from the wall, Dennis ripped out the pad, sprayed some mildew remover and place a fan under the carpet to dry it out as well as the flooring. I left it like that for almost 24 hours. Dennis came back with new padding and installed the padding and carpet and cleaned this room again. The carpet looked great except for a slight ring where the water stood the longest. I though with all that had gone on with this carpet I could live with a slight ring. However, Dennis gave me a solution to spray on the ring and today you would never know that I flooded that room or that it had such stains before the original cleaning.

Dennis and his crew are always very professional. They are a little more expensive than other carpet services but you get what you pay for and Ajax does a great job.
