VIP Home Solutions, LLC. is a general contractor specializing in all of your home improvement/remodel needs. No job is too small or too large. We also do light commercial work.
Typical Nightmare contractor experience. Project was a 6-8 week project. I didn’t have a kitchen for 5 months. Electrical work was not to code. Cabinetry didn’t even meet standard depths and my plates couldn’t fit in the cupboard. They didn’t follow original plans so the work done wasn’t what was agreed on. Kitchen plumbing wasn’t done correctly and leaked. Jim Smith, the owner, stood in my house and promised to make it right, asked for additional payment and went unresponsive, leaving me with thousands of dollars in corrections. Jim Smith is unethical and not capable of managing his people. I spent a lot of money with VIP and didn’t get anything I paid for. Do not use.

Response from VIP Home Solutions, LLC.
We hate that this is how she feels about our company and the work we performed. This job was under contract in 2015 and we're just now receiving this review. It was impossible to complete this project in 6-8 weeks as she changed her mind on what she wanted numerous times causing numerous change orders. She worked directly with the kitchen cabinet designer/builder and signed off on exactly what she got. It wasn't until it was time to collect the balance that we learned of her complaints. We tried on many occasions to meet with her to discuss and resolve the things she was unhappy with. It resulted in both parties hiring legal counsel, in which we requested an in home walk through to see what she was concerned about. As of today, that request has gone unanswered. I'd also like to mention she has yet to pay her large balance.

Great. Their crew arrived early, in no time my old roof was removed, new one in is place and the best part is they removed all the old roofing and when they left the only indication that they had been there was my beautiful new roof. My homeowners insurance paid for it all. Highly recommend.

Awesome experience! VIP came out to our home, provided an estimate, worked with our insurance company, arranged work completion and handled the insurance payment process. All we had to do was make the initial call to VIP and then enjoy our new roof, they handled everything in between. The staff is amazing and very personable, yet professional. My husband and I have sent a few others to VIP for services and they had the same experience! 100% recommend VIP!

Jim, Dannielle, and Eric are very caring passionate about working with you, and with pleasing their customers. They took the time to listen to what I wanted and needed with my house project. I appreciated their personal commitment and highly recommend them. They didn't blow off a bunch of numbers like a lot of other contractors that looked at my project. With my first call it lead me to want to work with them, and an accurate estimate that wouldn't come up with surprise expenses at completion of the project. This business has a personal, and family touch of their very own.

Because VIP did some other work for my parents in the past, they were one of the first contractors we called for this job.? The meeting was to be with the owner, Chris Shelton. I live out of state so I set up the appointment about a week ahead of when I would be in town.? The appointment was set for 8:00 AM.? At 8:40, I called Chris' cell phone and office line.? I got voicemail on both numbers. I left a message on his cell phone asking if there was a problem and if we should reschedule.? Almost 10 minutes after that, the doorbell rang.? It was a man in sweatpants and a t-shirt?who works for VIP, however I was not given a business card or his full name.? He said hello, and that he was there from VIP to take measurements and look at the scope of the job.? He had no idea where Chris was or why he missed the appointment.? He took a few measurements, but mostly said "I think a ramp will fit there," or, "...that looks wide enough."? He did not measure the bathroom door until I specifically asked him to, and never measured the bedroom door.? (Both are 28" wide, far too narrow for a wheelchair.)? When I asked questions about specific ADA requirements, he couldn't answer even the most basic of questions.? (didn't know how wide doors are required to be; didn't know how steep ramps could be; etc.)? He told me several times that he would "be happy to spend as much of your parents' money as you want," but that there were cheaper ways to do several things.? Left me with the impression that Cheap was how he planned to do the job. Also told me that his father had been in a wheelchair for years, then overshared with me what a horrible person his father was to him.? Before he left, he had to come back in the house because he thought he'd lost his car keys in the house.? Turned out they were in the pocket of his sweatpants and had fallen all the way to the bottom of the pocket. I am writing this on May 2, 2016, or 2 days less than 3 weeks after the appointment.? To date, I have not received a return phone call from Chris Shelton, nor have I received an estimate for the work, nor any follow up calls of any kind.? In those almost 3 weeks, we have interviewed, and met with two other contractors and received bids from them both.? We will be going with a different contractor for this job and have no plans at all to contact VIP further.?
Description of Work: The contractor came to provide an estimate on remodeling my parent's home to accommodate a wheelchair and/or walker.? The job would have been to build two ramps into the house, replace the back door with a wider door, and renovate the master bed and bath rooms making them handicap accessible.?

I am not sure where to begin, but I want to say that if were not for Jim Smith and VIP Home Solutions I would have been homeless now. My house was destroyed by another contractor who took my life savings from me and left me with a 10% completed house. I Jim Smith and his VIP Home Solutions crew were able to help me get my house back. It has taken two and a half years, but I am finally able to move back into my beautiful home thanks to VIP Home solutions. All the people who Jim subcontractors with are very professional and they were all very conscious able the ordeal I had been though and they made every effort to minimize my out of pocket expenses. I am so grateful to VIP and what they were able to do for me. It is hard to find honest people in the contracting business these days who really do try to put their customers concerns first. Jim Smith and his family, and the people he subcontracts to all have a heart of gold. I will say that my project took a very long time to be completed, but the work was done amazingly well. The main reason that my project took so long was because VIP Home Solutions made every effort to get me the best possible price on every aspect of my project. I hope whoever reads this will consider VIP Home Solutions if what you really want is quality work done right the first time. Signed, Very happy customer
Screened in porch was nearly completed 6 weeks ago and I paid in full but contractor took 6 weeks after full payment to install the railing and adjust the doors which were sloppily installed with gaps. After waiting 6 weeks the railing was improperly installed (unpainted) and the gaps around the doors were not addressed. I paid in full trusting that the work would be completed but that was a huge mistake in hindsight. Owner assured me 6 days ago that all of these issues would be immediately addressed but another week has passed and nothing has been done. Weather was perfect this week so contractor had opportunity to address these issues and complete the job with railing painted. I would not recommend this contractor.

The guys did a great job. They did what they said they would do and they did it in a very timely manner. They kept us in the loop and sought our input on design changes, offering their opinion on what they thought would work and what wouldn't. Their input was always a suggestion and never "our way or the highway" type response. Their quality of work was excellent. They were very neat for the work they did in that they always cleaned up at the end of each workday. They also resolved a couple of additional problems that came up during the project with minimal cost or time lost. Overall a very good experience and we would not hesitate to use them again.

VIP came highly recommended by a friend. Appointment was scheduled for 9/11/2015, & I planned around this appointment as we were eager to get the work started. On the day of appointment, the owner called during the time frame he was due to arrive, saying he was running late, needed to make a call & would be on his way. It is a bit of a drive to our house but his arrival took long enough that I was about to go run the errands I did not do in order to meet with him at the appointed time. It was lightly raining. He took a cursory look at a couple sides of the house, assured me that this type of work is often done in stages. He was very pleasant, informative, and seemed eager to possibly do the work. He said he'd need to get with the painter, bring him out for an estimate at a later date. No calls until yesterday, 10/10/15, when a man called to see if I was still wanting someone to come out. I said someone is already hired. He said that was good, he was just calling to check, or words to that effect. Words and behaviors didn't match. The follow through was poor. I don't know if they are too busy, didn't want to do the job that was needed, or what, but it would be helpful if a company would say so up front rather then be late, then later, then not follow through with what they say. Or, if one month later is the norm for following through, let the customer know that. It is mid-October. If I had waited for an estimate and then the start of work it might have been too cold for what's absolutely needed now.
Description of Work: I was wanting estimate on exterior work for two houses located across the street from each other. To include evaluation of old wood siding, prepping raw wood for winter, estimate replacement of rotten wood, prime and paint. The work would likely be done in stages depending on costs, starting with prep for winter as needed, then finish in the Spring. Would possibly do full paint before winter if in our budget.
Most professional team of contractors I've seen in years. It?s important to note that most of this work was covered by our insurance, due to a major hail storm that hit our neighborhood, this year. An important key factor was the fact that our contractor made certain he was available to meet with the insurance adjuster, during the inspection, and got up on the roof -- with our insurance adjuster ? to oversee the inspection. By doing so, he was able dispute any damaged item that might have been missed by the adjuster. This is a principal factor in any insurance inspection process. Our professional, licensed and bonded contractor was able to point out several areas of damage that the adjuster had missed. With VIP Home Solutions, we were confident that we didn?t need to be present at the time of inspection. And the resulting payment, from the insurance company, allowed for completion of the various jobs (listed below). After tearing off existing shingles down to wood decking, their work covered all aspects of roofing, including installation of Lifetime Warranty Atlas Pinnacle Pristine Dimensional Shingles (3M algae resistant / 130 MPH Wind Warranty); hip & ridge shingles, felt paper, Ice & Water shield (around perimeter of chimney, skylights and perimeter of home), pipe boot flashing, 11 new metal roof vents; all new metal step and counter flashing around chimney; and surrounding gutter apron. In addition, VIP Home Solutions installed two Power Attic Vents, with electrical hook up (owner supplied the new power vents). A couple of weeks later, when the weather settled down, a new team returned to pre-power wash, caulk and generally prep the entire exterior of our home for painting and gutter work. They carefully painted home?s exterior (excluding brick veneer); plus soffits and fascia; front porch; garage doors; and window & door casings. Prior to painting, they removed existing gutters and 9 downspouts and, following painting, installed new 6" seamless gutters with 10 downspouts. An important step, often overlooked by roofing contractors, was the thorough use of a magnetic nail/staple mower, on our surrounding yard, driveway, and walkways ? so that our cars and lawnmower wouldn?t pick them up in the tires. Furthermore, all trash/debris was removed from the site. Our house is now tighter and prettier than it's been, in fifteen or more years! Additionally, VIP Home Solutions sent over another team -- a couple of weeks later -- to rip out and replace our pool filter/equipment fence that had been damaged from wind-sheer, during a storm, last year. In all, the roofing took about a day and a half; the exterior prepping, painting and gutter work took about 3 days; and the new fence was up in a couple of days (after waiting for the post's concrete to dry, before actual installation of the fence). The roof is covered by two warranties: 1) A five-year contractor labor warranty and 2) A life-time shingle replacement warranty, by the manufacturer. VIP Home Solutions had done excellent work for us, before. So, we decided to call them again, for the above installations and painting. We will use them, again, in the future. Naturally, we highly recommend their general contracting/remodeling services to all.
Description of Work: 1) Removed old 3,000 sq ft roof and replaced it with all new roof; 2) Pre-power washed and caulked entire exterior 3) Painted home’s exterior (excluding brick veneer); plus soffits and fascia; front porch; garage doors; and window & door casings; 4) Prior to painting, removed existing gutters and 9 downspouts and, following painting, installed new 6" seamless gutters with 10 downspouts.

The overall experience was great. I was always kept up to date on when and what was going to be done that day. They did a great job on the conversion of the loft to a bedroom. It looks like there always was a bedroom there. Another plus is the project was done before the estimated completion date.
Description of Work: Converted a loft to a bedroom, painting, and put up crown molding
In September, 2013 we hired, what turned out to be, a con man contractor, to completely remodel our new home. Yes, we had obtained bids from qualified Angie?s List contractors? but the day we intended to hire the more qualified company, they notified us they would be out of state, on a 3-week hunting and fishing vacation. Since cool to cold weather would be settling in?and there were a number of outside projects that needed to be done, before winter, we had to make a decision. We chose to go with the next highest bidder. BIG MISTAKE! On November 11, 2013, the former con man contractor, who used extremely deceptive practices?and ultimately caused over $75,000 in damages to our home and property?broke his contract and abandoned our job site. Somehow, in the initial bidding-mix, we had missed Jim Smith, of VIP Home Solutions. He, his company, and crew ultimately came to our rescue. Because of complications in dealing with the former contractor's liability insurance company and bonding/surety firm, it took over a year to settle claims due us? that would help initiate repairs to the massive number of botched jobs the former contractor and his so-called crew left behind. Fortunately, we had a written contract with the former contractor and copies of two bonds (one of which turned out to be a worthless, misrepresented bond). Despite months of wrangling with insurance and surety reps, we eventually settled on amounts that would take care of some of the needed repair work. VIP Home Solutions stuck with us, from the beginning (for nearly 14 months)... anytime an adjuster had to come out; anytime we needed a revised quote for the various insurers (who kept dragging their feet and delaying decisions anytime they could-- in their attempts to stretch decisions out past the Statute of Limitations); anytime our attorney needed quote verifications -- Jim Smith and his crew of experts would be there for us. Eventually, after long delays, we received modest payments from the insurers. But, by then, extensive water damage had occurred, inside and out, that had to be dealt with--especially in our basement. Before we could hire VIP Home Solutions, LLC, we had to hire a professional excavator to correct a very severe grading problem, with our side yard, and to correct reinstallation of our basement egress window (both problems created by the former contractor). VIP Home Solutions came to the rescue, to attack a full list of remodel projects that needed to be completed. Included in VIP?s remodel projects were: · Complete remediation and partial re-installation of drywall; priming of our large basement walls (including entry room and staircase; family room; guest bedroom; security room; and full bath) · Stippling of FR ,Office and Guest Room ceilings · Extension and repair of a fake bathroom vent that was intended to be vented to the outside, but was never cut through · Complete remediation of flooded basement office wall; full remodel and painting of our basement office; closet; floor and door trim · Installed five basement doors and door handles · Repaired/reframed the basement egress window, that the former contractor had framed with a hidden ?paper? wood product that soaked up water from the outside · Electrical remediation of switches, plugs, and light fixture boxes in several rooms where the original contractor?s ?electrician? had botched the wiring jobs · Installation of a new half-bath electrical wall fixture box and wiring of new switches · Remediated and repaired hallway bath wall that had been left open by a plumber · Remediated/repaired and installed new outdoor cedar soffit material, over patio French doors, that had been left open and exposed to weather · Cleaned up, removed, and hauled away all trash There are many more damaged projects?left over from the former contractor?that still must be remediated, but insurance money was not enough to cover it all. When possible, we will definitely hire VIP Home Solutions, LLC to complete those projects, as well. It is important to note that, from the beginning, everyone with VIP showed up on time (or were early). At no time did any of the crew show up late. There was never any sign of cigarettes/smoking on our property (which is just the opposite of the former crew who even put their cigarettes out on our wooden porch trim, and left butts all over our property, no matter how much we asked them not to do so). Jim, Pat, and Mike were always courteous, kind and caring. And they kept us informed every step, along the way. They even showed up on the Friday prior to starting the job, to plan out each step with crew members?and to prepare the job site, staging area?and us?for what was to come. I must also mention that their courtesy extends from all members of their office team, as well?at the 540 N. Madison Street office, in Greenwood, IN (46142). I cannot give any higher recommendation for VIP Home Solutions, LLC? well, maybe an A+++++ in every category! Way to go, VIP!
Description of Work: VIP Home Solutions properly repaired and corrected thousands of dollars of damage, that a previous con man contractor had done to our 2200 sq ft. basement and to several other main living areas, inside and outside of our home.
I will not use name in this because I feel that the two young men I was working with were awesome. Two young men came out did estimate, about a week later I receive my general scope/contract, which was not very specific. example: install cabinets per conversation with customer, move lights from office to closet. The price was reasonable so we decide to go with them but first I wanted the scope to be more specific. I contacted the person who did my scope and ask him to add a few things to make my scope more specific, i.e: install Aristrokraft Landen Sarsaparilla cabinets with Bella Noche counter tops, move two existing lights from office and place into newly built closets. He changed the scope without problems. He set an appointment to come out and sign the contract. He came out and we signed the contract and I called my credit card company to get pre authorization (because my card has been stolen 3 times in the last year). I was told after I got off the phone that there will be a 3% credit card charge for using the credit card. This was no where on the scope that we just signed and additional $300+ bucks. He said he would call and see if he could waiver it. The guy then informs me that "this has happen several times, customers not aware of the fee." My husband and I are now sitting here having second thoughts. Finally the phone call came back and was told we could waiver the credit card fee. My hubby and I wanted to think about it. I explain to the person that we just felt that this should have been on the scope. We have viewed this scope from head to toe about 10 times and you also do not have what your warranty is (which was told to be 5 year) on the scope. I teased him about how I had to write up the scope for him and that the owner just need to give me a call to hire me and I will be glad to do it for him. The guy left and my hubby and I was just going over why thing was not on point with this company. But we had decided to give it a go with them, until the owner called us that evening. In my opinion he seem to have gotten a little offended when I said if you have had this problem with the credit card before why not just take 5 minutes to type that into the scope. He goes on to tell me that he waived the fee. I know that you waived the fee, but you are not correcting the problem for the next person. I tell him about the scope and he push it back on the guy saying he was new and he should have never came out there with out the other guy. EXCUSES!! But what finally p***** me off is when he said, "well maybe we shouldn't work together, sometimes the customer and us are not good fit"-SAY WHAT!!! (I AM MAD !!!) what I heard--"you are black and I don't want to work with you" please understand I watch my mom and dad get treated unfairly because of their skin color and this is a quote I heard in our town constantly, " we can't help you here maybe try the store about five mile away". Someone giving me money is always a good fit not all of your clients starts off happy but my goal is to make sure they ends up happy. THESE WILL BE YOUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS. So my response was so you are upset because I am just trying to provide ideas that may help your customers in the future and I would never tell my clients that I do not want to work with them. He started back peddling and finally wanted us to contact them if we wanted the job done. So I believe in second chances, so we called them and said we will like to use the company. We get a call back a was told that the owner wanted to have a meeting with the two young men. Which I told my husband, that the owner is not going to do the job, but he will make one of the guys call us. A few days later, one of the guys called to tell me that the owner did not want to do the job because I said, that we shouldn't work together" so I told him then as I found myself getting angry, "HE IS A LIE AND I WILL TELL HIM SO IF HE CALLS ME". I am a lot of things but a liar is not one of them. My integrity is all I have and when I went into harms way with my Soldiers all they had was my word. So I am not understanding why he would say this, so I told the guy, to provide me with any of his African American references, and his response was "It's not about that." About what? cause I never said it was about anything. So I told him that I thought him and the other guy was great but the owner to me is not trustworthy. I told him that him and the other guy was great but I had problem with the owenr. I will never refer this company and will beg and plea with anyone else I know not to use them.

Nothing to report. No contact since we asked for help in January [05/04/2015] They came out and were very apologetic about the delay, but the home Show slammed them. I understand now and was happy to speak with Mike G from VIP. We spent a long time going over our laundry list of projects and are now waiting to have them back with a designer to look at possible plans for work. I will update this review as time goes on.
Description of Work: Talked to them at length at the Home Show about several projects we were interested in getting information about. No calls or contact since. [05/04/2015] I adjusted my grades up a bit since they came out shortly after I posted this. It doesn't look like I can delete the review, so I will keep this post up to date.

Painters were professional and pretty thorough. Couple of places where I wish they had gone ahead and replaced a piece of siding. Also left mismatched trim around 2 attic vents, but promised to fix that when they came back to replace the shutters. We haven't heard back from them on the shutters, but that is not rated in this review.

It went fabulously. The quality of his work was second to none. He worked with two other subcontractors to complete the make-over of my home. The results exceeded my expectations for appearance and quality of the work. It looks fantastic! The work took a bit longer than anticipated, but I had stressed to Jim that time was not a consideration, that quality was my only concern. Therefore, he took his time to get it absolutely right. If you have a set timeframe that you want the work completed, I suggest you be very explicit about your expected deadline. I suspect that if he understands that tming is important to you he will meet his commitment to deadline.
Description of Work: My home was badly damaged by a hailstorm last year. Jim repaired and upgraded the entire outside of my house. Roof, siding, decks, patios and landscaping.

Everything went great. They did the replacement while we were on vacation. Jim does a great job. I referred him my mother in law, and she is a demanding customer. She said Jim did a great job on their roof also. I'd refer Jim for your home improvement needs.

Jim Smith initiated contact. He was friendly, professional and honest. The price he quoted was what he delivered. The quality of the work was excellent and I had neighbors who asked me who I had do my work. His office was outstanding in helping me handle my claim with the insurance company.

Jim Smith and his entire team were amazing! I cannot begin to tell you how impressed Duane and I were with the entire project. Between the two of us we have owned A LOT of homes, many requiring renovations so we understand construction, older homes and what is involved. They were thorough, very professional, friendly, realistic, consistently punctual and made great effort to clean up after each phase of the project...much to my pleasure!! We were actively and consistently involved in every step of the project...no surprises or hidden costs at all. Duane and I have asked for several of their cards and will sing their praises for sure! We are grateful to them for the prompt and amazing job they did!!
Description of Work: They installed 3 new storm doors, enlarged sunroom wall and installed brand new French doors and solid threshold, completely renovated our laundry room

Saturday night the winds tore several pieces of siding off the side of my garage. I called VIP first thing Monday and talked to a lady who said they would be out in the afternoon to do the repair. I told her that anytime in the afternoon would be great. The lady I was talking to promptly got someone to do an estimate of the cost based on my description of the damage. Later I called to let the lady at VIP know I had a change of schedule and would be leaving sooner than I had expected and could they get there earlier in the afternoon. She made a call and I got a call immediately thereafter and the VIP team were there as they said they would be, Monday afternoon, on my new schedule. They surveyed the damage, used replacement siding I had stored inside my garage, and had the siding repaired within an hour. They then cleaned up the scattered remnants and kept the amount of the bill to their earlier quote. VIP was very responsive, in the office and in the field. The repair of my siding was very well done, garage siding is back to looking like it should. I will use them again.
Description of Work: Installed replacement siding that wind damage had caused.

After a hail storm in August, we had severe damage to our house. We contacted 5 roofing companies (all top rated on Angie's List). Two of those never gave us a final quote. Of the remaining 3, only VIP gave us a quote with complete specifications for all the work to be done. The other 2 said and quot;Don't worry, we will make you happy.and quot; We did worry so we chose VIP. VIP was also somewhat less expensive than any of the other roofers. All roofers were very busy after the hail storms and consequently none of our neighbors (used different roofers) had their roofs finished on time. Our work was not finished on time either, but VIP did not do any worse in this regard than the other roofers. Otherwise they did a great job and were responsive to our needs.
