Chris & his crew were very easy to work with throughout the entire process. He provided weekly updates and quickly communicated any concerns / questions to avoid delays in the project. At the same time, he was willing to make changes along the way, yet stuck to his original quote. We appreciated his willingness to perform most of the work outside our normal business hours to avoid production issues. And, to top it off, he paid very close attention to the details, which provided me with peace of mind from start to finish. We would highly recommend Johnson & Johnson Renovating & Remodeling, and they will be our first call for any future remodeling needs.

Our house is 130 years old so making changes usually involves real skill and sensitivity. These contractors designed and built a large wrap around porch and at a later date helped us replace all the original 130 year old pipes under the house. They exceeded our expectations in every aspect of the jobs. The design for the porch was unusual and inspired and included custom sliding privacy panels. Our next door neighbor is an internationally known architect and told us that it is the most beautifully designed and executed wrap around porch in the city. The materials used were far better than our expectations. They even had the taller than usual columns and the ceiling beams made of special rot resistant wood shipped in from Oregon. The porch took time to build but every day I could see the care that the staff was taking. They were trustworthy and cleaned up each day at the end of work (which made this large project so much easier.) I would and have recommended them to friends and associates and have been thanked over and over for it. The work performed for us transcended the word "construction". Our neighbors call it craftsmanship and I agree.

I contacted them about my plans for a kitchen remodel. I outlined in detail what I wanted to do. My initial contact was received, but I never heard back from them. I don't recommend you waste time contacting them. They are clearly an unprofessional, fly-by--night operation. It is probably good that they blew me off from the start before we got to the next step. I am moving forward on an excellent plan from another designer I found on this site. I strongly urge you to stay away from the rank amateurs at Johnson and Johnson

We rely primarily on 3 modes of communication; phone (or text), email and the Angie's List portal. We have never been contacted my this member thru any of these modes. Occasionally people will contact us from other outlets, such as Facebook or 3rd parties who are often trying to "sell" access to the client. These are often fraught with SPAM and scams of all kinds. Angie's List has created a safe place for clients and contractors to exchange information and eventually connect. Looking back, it appears that this individual may have tried to contact us thru our Facebook page, but not under his actual name, but rather an alias of "Sentra Honda", which of course are 2 separate automobile models or manufacturers, and because it was not sent through Facebook Messenger our filter recognized it as SPAM. I hope most will agree that leaving an extremely negative review for someone that you haven't ever even spoken with is unfair and moreover, baseless.

We had our roof and gutters replaced due to hail damage. Johnson and Johnson did a fantastic job. They were excellent in quality and did the work in a timely manner. Chris even took the time to meet the insurance adjuster before the job to make sure our insurance company would pay for the damage. I highly recommend this company!

Our bathroom desperately needed a renovation and, based on the plan and promises we received from Chris Johnson, we were excited about the project. What we didn’t expect is that once the old bathroom was torn out, the process would become a drawn out nightmare without much of a plan, workers making odd decisions on their own, and band-aids to cover up the odd decisions and mistakes made during the process. The first is the plumbing under the sink. The shut-off valves and drain pipe are so low it’s almost impossible to place anything under the cabinet. This isn’t just a simple inconvenience. The cold shut-off is being pinched downward by drywall, and the cabinet is sloppy, to say the least. The barn door guide that was glued to the floor lasted all of two months with a stopper that doesn’t stay in place. The carpet was cut too far back during the renovation and a wooden board had to be placed as a transition as a band-aid until we get new carpet (which we were not planning in the near future). This is an example of the miscommunication we saw prevalent with their team. The drywall sub took it upon himself to bullnose the new walls. At first glance, this seemed fine until the tile installer expressed frustration out loud about having to put in the tile baseboard around this bullnose. What was left was a sloppy mess of poorly cut tile and gobs of grout as they tried to round out the corners. As we looked around the bathroom, this type of poor attention to detail and patchwork to cover up mistakes became apparent. The problems continued to get worse as they tested the shower tile and discovered the tile was set wrong and wasn’t draining and drying. While Chris sent someone out to fix this, another problem was caused as the ledge going into the shower became chipped during the process. They initially tried to use aluminum edging to hide the chips. When I complained about how this looked, and that it caused the water to dam up on the ledge, they relented and tried another fix using the same material as the sink. This piece was installed without any pitch to it, resulting in water being trapped on top and not draining down. Also, somewhere during this process, they tried to patch the grout on the shower walls and used mismatched grout. Perhaps this was the grout they were using for the floor, but it is just one more of the many mistakes. While these types of issues do happen, there were other things that I feel needed to be shared as others consider hiring Johnson & Johnson. I permitted the drywall to be stored in my garage. What I didn’t know, until it was too late, was that they were going to use my garage as their shop. This caused drywall dust to coat every surface of my garage, including an expensive road bike. The bike was taken into a reputable shop and had to be professional taken apart and cleaned. This issue cost over $200 to fix but could have caused even more damage if left unaddressed. When I shared this with Chris, he just argued about it and placed blame on us for permitting them to use the garage to cut drywall (which we did not). Several times, as I expressed frustration throughout the renovation, Chris responded with such callous statements as, “First world problem just like any of my others, no ones got cancer!” These kind of statements were uttered multiple times as we felt bullied to accept the poor nature of the work. I still can’t believe anyone would treat a customer that way and say things like that. I wish the story ended here, but several months after Chris and his team moved on to other projects, we noticed the brand new grout was cracking on the bathroom floor. I called Chris, and his response was to send someone over to spot treat the issue. As I looked closer, I realized the problem was widespread. The gentleman Chris sent over confirmed that the whole tile job, including the grout, was poorly done. Chris proposed trying a plan to grout over trouble areas and dye the grout. While I had reservations about this plan, we permitted them to attempt to fix this as we wanted to allow Chris the opportunity to fix his mistakes. My reservations were confirmed as the grout began to crack and break up in chunks less than a week after the repair. This repair job, like many of the band-aids Chris used, never felt like an approach that was appropriate as we paid tens of thousands of dollars to have a job done correctly. We gave Chris the benefit of the doubt in trying to fix it, but he wouldn’t agree to do the job right. Upon conversations with professionals, the correct approach was to remove the grout entirely, but the floor appears to have never been installed correctly. I addressed this with Chris, and he was incredibly defensive and rude. The grout was “repaired” but is once again cracking. We paid thousands of dollars based on the plans, promise, and reputation of Chris Johnson. We didn’t pay for bandaids, coverups, and mistakes that were never corrected, but that’s precisely what we got by hiring Johnson and Johnson. Don’t waste your time and money with them.

The homeowners are fantastic people and the way in which the project and the relationship has turned out is very defeating. The project was extremely transformative and the bathroom is very beautiful. The reviewer has never contacted me about any of her concerns after completion nor have I ever had the opportunity to speak with her directly, however the husband has contacted me on multiple occasions, always with very long, off-point and demeaning text messages. The tile floor outside of the shower is the issue and despite having gone to overwhelming length to first properly fortify the existing sub-floor and then prep and tile the floor according to industry accepted "best practices", hairline cracks developed where the grout engages the large-format floor tile. No grout was found to be loose or "spalling". There are many reasons why this can happen, but having first hand knowledge of how it was installed and of the construction of the home (70's pre-fabricated production home) there were only 2 likely causes; a pour mix if grout/defective grout or structural movement of the home affecting the second-story bathroom. It was unlikely that it was an issue with the grout, however we agreed to grind out the grout over the entire bathroom floor to a certain depth and re-grout the entire bathroom floor at no expense to the homeowner. Several months later I heard again from the husband simply to tell me that the grout was cracking again and that I was a fraud. I believe that because of the location of the bathroom and the construction of the home, the structure of the home in the vicinity of the bathroom is experiencing movement, causing just enough movement to uncouple the bond between grout and tile to a very slight degree. I'm beyond confident that if the entire tile floor was to be removed and re-installed the phenomenon would reemerge once again. This condition does not pose an aesthetic, safety or performance issue in the least but perfection along with client satisfaction, is always our target.

I terminated the agreement with this company after multiple problems surfaced with timing, project management, and quality of work. Multiple concerns about quality and expensive rework went unresolved. He was paid to “manage” the project however was rarely on site which I believe led to the problems. I requested detailed invoices regarding the work billed and he has refused to provide them. He failed to get a building permit and when questioned, said that was my responsibility. Then, when he was fired from the project he called the city and reported “code violations”- even though he and his sub contractors did the work. An example, he hung Sheetrock before electrical was run creating a potential code violation according to the city-a violation that may require Sheetrock being removed and rehung after electric is done. I asked for the license numbers of the plumber and electrician that he used as sub contractors and he has refused to provide them. The final bill he presented said that by paying the bill I was waiving my rights to pursue remedies for work performed. I have refused to pay the final bill (2% of the overall bill) because he will not provide the detailed invoices, sub contractor information, warranty information on products purchased (new HVAC, kitchen cabinets) and because I will not waive my remedy rights.

Response from Johnson & Johnson Renovating and Remodeling
After an initial meeting with the member, (client/GC), I informed her that I would not be able to submit a proposal as the job scope was far too abstract. She had closed on the home and was anxious to get started, so client, acting as a GC, proposed that we perform work on a time and materials basis. I had available craftsmen, so I agreed. Not knowing which services we would perform, client/GC stated that she would handle permitting, which is not uncommon. When I arrived on day one a large amount of demolition had already been done by others and the 30yd dumpster client had delivered to the job site was nearly full. Based on what ultimately became the full job scope there should have been blue prints for framing, masonry, lighting, kitchen cabinet layout and plumbing, but instead we received info on a slow drip, as the client added or changed the scope frequently. An entire work week went by where the client was unavailable. I would receive pictures of drawings that the client had sketched out. While this was frustrating, I was being directly compensated for my time so these changes came at the expense of the client/GC. The client/GC hired other sub-contractors directly, including plumbing, electrical, siding, masonry and general labor. After we were dismissed by client I did check on permitting, I discovered the client/GC had obtained none. I discussed the situation with a code enforcement official as I had no other recourse in the event an electrical fire were to result from others finishing our electrical work with incomplete information. I have not supplied client with the documentation she has requested because: 1. Client/GC is in breach of contract by her failure to pay her outstanding balance. 2. Client/GC has stated she would not pay balance regardless. This is the first time I have not been paid by a client-ever, as well as the first “F” from anyone we’ve actually performed work for. I couldn't even accurately give the client and "F' grade and she owes a balance of $2500.

Chris is an excellent communicator. This was a small job compared to what he usually takes on, yet he treated us so well. We are really fortunate to have found him on Angie's List. We had a bathroom in the basement that we did not have completed when we built our house in 2015. The room had been created, but inside the bathroom were only studs and roughed in electrical and plumbing. Chris came to the house and we reviewed with him the work we wanted completed. To complete the bathroom, it required building a tile shower with shower doors, installing dry wall, tile floor, toilet, vanity with lights. We are very pleased with the work that Chris and his crew completed for us. We gave Chris an idea as to what we wanted the tile to look like for the shower walls and the bathroom floor and the general colors we wanted to stay with. Chris then selected shower tiles, floor tiles and vanity top that went together. Chris has very good design skills. He provided us with pictures of samples that he thought matched and gave us some options to choose from. Throughout the project Chris was very good in communicating with us as to what was scheduled to be done. Chris did a great job in working with us to complete this project.

We are very pleased with the work that Chris and his team completed for us. During the initial visit, it was clear that Chris had a clear vision of what needed to be accomplished in order to meet our stated goals for the project. Throughout the project he was able to provide creative options and solutions that allowed us to end up with a showcase kitchen and a lovely three season room within our stated budget. During the project Chris and his team completely gutted the kitchen and removed overhead bulkheads which allowed for the addition of taller cabinets all around and floor to ceiling cabinets with slide out drawers to replace our outdated pantry with bi-fold doors. We chose quartz for the counter tops and kitchen island and Chris steered us to some dove gray shaker style cabinets with soft close cabinet doors and shelves room with that look great and operate smoothly. He reframed the screened porch, moved the doorway for better access and removed the tongue in groove flat ceiling to give us a vaulted ceiling effect. He finished off the three season room with porcelain tile and six foot tall windows to give us a nice view into our backyard and also provided a dedicated 20 amp outlet to handle the ceramic heater we chose for warming the room on cool days. Chris provided samples of stone for our selection to use on the exterior bottom 24 inches of the three season room which gave us a finished blended look with our outdoor firepit. Major remodeling projects can be stressful but Chris did a great job in helping us navigate through the entire process.

Our bathroom is now the showcase of our home. Mr. Johnson only employed expertly qualified craftman. Chris was proactive on every phase of the project. Walls were changed, a zero shower was crafted, new ceramic tile with radiant floor heated was installed. A toilet closet with safety bars was designed. Only the finest material was used. The cabinetry and mirrors are striking. He has a creative ability to think outside the box. In addition to the skilled workmanship, Chris is a family man of strong Christian morals and integrity. I sent them a picture of what I wanted and they said they could do it. They hung two cabinets and put some crown molding (and some other wood trim, not sure of what it is called) to spice them up so they didn't look so plain. I wanted a piece of wood to between the two cabinets so it would all flow and I wanted it to match the cabinets. They was able to tell me exactly what to get and they installed that at the same time. The young man that came did a great job and very kind.

It was great. I took a few minutes to explain our situation (We're selling a house and had an issue pop up on the inspection). Due to the size of the job, he recommended a local, reputable handy man who could better assist with the project. While on the phone, he gave some great advice regarding my next steps (This isn't something that I normally deal with). I really appreciate the time that he took to explain the process, even though he wasn't going to be doing the job. I also appreciate the fact that he didn't waste my time with a high dollar estimate or going back and forth on scheduling. He was very straightforward and incredibly helpful - you don't find that very often (especially when they aren't getting paid for their time).

Chris and his team remodeled our entire first floor of our home last year - remodeled our kitchen, opened up walls, re-ran necessary duct work, all new floors, the works. We've recommended him to a number of people who have hired him and been equally as impressed as we were. This summer he re-roofed our neighbor's house, and when he stopped by to say hello and check on us, we had him give us a rough estimate on an outdoor kitchen/fireplace & roof structure over an existing porch/patio off of the back of our house. With a busy family schedule, we decided not to complete the project this year, but we're hoping to fit it in by mid-2018. We highly recommend Chris and his team to anyone interested in a home renovation!

Professional on the phone, but the description in the listing was apparently mis-leading, as I was told they don't do general contract work.
Description of Work: Fireplace remodel. Simple job of removing wooden mantle and the existing fireplace insert. Another company is going to deliver and install the new insert. He was asked to do the prep and then come back and install / create a new mantle and put it all back together. His response was that he is "not staffed" for that kind of work. That they normally will rebuild a fireplace or put one in where one does not exist. What??? This should be a WHOLE lot easier since it really just involves light carpentry work. How can he be listed as a general contractor or even a re modeler if his company can't even do this basic work? I found this listing to be VERY misleading and a waste of my time and his, when I called and asked for a quote. I am simply writing this review to keep others from wasting their time.

I attempted to explain to the prospect that when we do, do fireplaces we do them from start to finish, resulting in a turn-key finished product. The prospect already had another company involved for 75% of the project, for liability reasons this is not something we can be involved with. He was unnecessarily angered by this as I tried to explain.

Chris and team were fantastic - extremely professionalism, very attentive to detail and easy to work with. Our basement looks awesome. Makes us want to do another project! Would definitely recommend Chris, Eric, Marcus, Usey, and team.

in short, I could not recommend this company more highly. Chris has been my favorite contractor that I've ever worked with. Punctual, professional, and affordable...you should call them immediately for your remodeling needs.

It went amazingly well. The sub-contractors did great work, were punctual. polite, and detailed. The most amazing part of the job was the tile work which is beautiful and exceeded my expectations. The electrical worker did a great job in converting one light into 2 lights and wiring for a jetted tub and ceiling fan. The flooring work at first wasn't what I expected but the flooring guy returned and rearranged the floor to my satisfaction and he was very friendly. The drywall work was great. Eric did a top-notch job in overseeing the project and handling some of the work (installation of shelves, clean-up, little touches of perfection). Chris Johnson responded promptly to my questions and worked with me to keep the project within my budget. I used all Chris's and Eric's suggestions and ideas and am glad I did. Overall I do highly recommend Johnson & Johnson Renovating and Remodeling. You will be pleased with the process and the outcome.

Thank you [Member Name Removed]! I'm still feeling the effects of carrying that massive vanity, granite top attached, up the stairs, but it was worth it! lol I am glad you are happy with your new space, thanks again!

They were able to replace 8x8 structural supports that had wood rot with cement blocks faced with stone that complements the back of our home. Ceiling installed with 8 canned lights and two ceiling fans. Ceiling was stained and surrounding cedar painted.

Chris & his team saved the day for us when we were left hanging by another contractor! He agreed to fit in our relatively small project on very short notice, & completed it on time & on budget. His team had no problem working with materials that we had already purchased, & they were happy to guide us as we thought through some design decisions. Chris is one of the most responsive contractors we've ever had the pleasure of working with. Whether phone or text, Chris always made sure we were kept in the loop on next steps, or with an answer to a question. We will definitely use Chris & his team again for future projects!

They are great. Timely. Efficient. They clean up after themselves. I am planning a large kitchen remodel and a new detached garage. So far, I like the approach Chris is taking. He is very responsive, and seems to have a good design eye. I am looking forward to working on this project with him. I will review more later.
