Jerry Allen - Chimney & Masonry Repair

Mr. Allen was able to schedule the job promptly and complete it within a week. The work looks good. He suggested a couple options as he went that made for a better outcome. Communications were good--he took time to go over the work accomplished at the end of each day and describe the next steps. He had one helper with him but he laid all the brick himself. The price was not the lowest quote, but I feel that I got good value for the money.

The finished work is awesome! Work was interrupted by rain, but he kept me updated and assured me that everything was protected from the rain and he finished the job on the first clear day. Superb quality, superb service.

Smooth. Slow start but only because my brick difficult to match. Was pleased they didn't rush just met an arbitary deadline but slowed down to get details right.

Jerry is a thorough setup person. The key to repairing a chimney is to plan and build the framework needed around the chimney in order to reach all four sides. This took as much time as doing the actual brickwork and it paid off. The top third of my chimney had been damaged by both frost rupturing the bricks and also by being hammered with softball sized hail a number of years ago. With the repair, it now looks great. I also had quite a few cracks in the brickwork on the exterior of the house. Jerry used a tool to clean out all of these areas and put in new mortar and he did a good job.

From the start to the finish the Allen's kept us informed. We had many rain delays and they would often come between rain showers! Extra effort was taken to protect the house from all this rainy weather when they finished for the day, they would completely secure the chimney with protective tarps. We never had to worry about any more water damage. They were very neat and cleaned up all the debris. They were very careful of my flower beds, which was very kind of them. The Allen's also looked at our fireplace's from the inside, they found some serious issues in the fireboxes and corrected them. Also they tuck pointed places around the entire house. If you think that your house of brick or stone does not have to be maintained, think again. I had no idea the issues that could arise. Probably should have some sort of maintenance agreement to have experts such as the Allen's take a look at your house, better to be proactive than reactive. If we did not have the Allen's come to our home, we may have had the stone fall off our chimney! We had no idea how bad it was, from where we stood, it looked fine! Thank goodness for the honest and skilled workmanship of the Allen's!!! We have used them in the past on our brick house and we were grateful we could have them work on this stone house. We have recommended them to others. Hard to find responsible, honest, "do as they said and more" workers these days!

Noticed some good-sized stress cracks and crumbling above/below the kitchen window on the brick exterior of the house. House was built in 1992 and this was original brickwork. Called Jerry Allen after researching on Angie's List. He's an "A" rated provider. Spoke with Jerry on the phone and he promised to visit and provide an estimate the next day. He arrived right on time and we walked the house exterior and spotted another area over the garage which was showing stress cracks as well. Jerry gave me a price of $650 to repair everything which I accepted right there. He surprised me by saying he could do the job right then if it was ok with me. He had all the necessary tools and materials in his van. It took him about 2 1/2 hrs to do the work. I'm very pleased with the result. The repairs look great. Jerry was very pleasant to deal with; he was professional and went about his business accordingly. He was careful and meticulous in his work and he left the job site clean and tidy when he was done. I would not hesitate to use him again and highly recommend him to prospective customers.

I made an initial phone call and Jerry said he could be here in about an hour....the SAME DAY! He arrived to survey the job and freely discussed options making suggestions on some of the things that could be done. My hope was that the job could be performed before our new floor installation which was only days away. Jerry schedule the job for the very next day. He arrived the next day, and tackled a somewhat risky job (the danger of cracking or damaging adjoining blocks). All blocks were safely and quickly removed. He had some leftovers from previous jobs that he managed to cut and put into the veneer. This is an art, and Jerry is an artist, he is a very nice man, who loves to talk about just about anything! The price was very low, way less than I expected. We have lived in the house since 1983, and if I had any idea this job could have been this well performed for less than I thought I would have and should have done it years ago. I would not hesitate for a second to hire him for any masonry work you might need, and he has my highest recommendation.

Jerry visited the property and provided an estimate for a brick wall that lined our driveway. The hardest part was attempting to either match or blend new brick with the 20+ year old brick already present. He traveled all around central Indiana and came back with what we believe was the best match possible. The job, once the brick was located, was completed in short order and clean up was done before guests arrived for Thanksgiving. It was a real pleasure to work with Jerry and I look forward to future interactions.

Jerry had to dig out around block to remove old and install new. Tree roots made this difficult. But he did a great job. The job was a bit more involved than he thought it would be. He also repaired several other mortar joints that were not a part of the bid and he fabricated a water runoff. He did all all of the extra work within the original quoted price. I insisted that he charge me for the actual work done but he would only accept $25 extra. Jerry did excellent work at a very fair price. I have already agreed to have him return to do tuck pointing on the stone on front of my house.

The chimney on my house is six feet wide and two stories high. The bricks on the top half of the chimney were crumbling and the chimney cap had multiple cracks. Because the chimney is so big, I knew it was going to be an expensive repair. I met Mr. Allen for the first time when he came out to look at the chimney and to give me an estimate to repair the chimney. He was very professional and went over what needed to be done to fix the chimney in great detail. He also noticed a few other bricks and cracked mortar on the side of the house that needed to be repaired as well. I thought his estimate was reasonable and liked the fact that he does all of the brick work himself. The chimney repair was very well done and the bricks Mr. Allen chose were almost a perfect match to the rest of the house. Mr. Allen was very careful not to damage the yard and to clean up all of the old brick. The work was completed on time and the chimney looks like new again. If I ever need more brick work done, I will definitely choose Mr. Allen.

Jerry responded quickly to my request for a bid. He showed up on time to bid and by the time he was done I was certain I would hire him. Bounced the cost off my wife to keep her in the loop and called him to schedule. Jerry showed up and did the work over several days and walked me around when he was finished to show his work and allow me to look things over. The only reason I gave a B for the price was it was more than I thought, though I had neglected my fireplace since I moved in 22 years ago. For what he did I feel good about what it cost me since I know it is not something I could have done so nicely. I would have no problem calling him again should I need more work done.

Jerry Allen rebuilt our chimney a few years ago and we were very pleased with his work. (See our review.) When we needed brick replacement on the front of our house, we didn't hesitate to call Jerry again. He quoted a fair price, arrived when he said he would, did excellent work, and left us very satisfied. Had I not seen Jerry's work before I would have been very anxious about having brick work done on the front of my house. However, because I had seen his work, I was very comfortable knowing that everything would be beautifully done. One call, no worries, and totally happy! It has been a real pleasure to work with a true master craftsman again.

I contacted this contractor for an estimate on some loose bricks and cracked mortar on my front brick patio. He called right back and made arrangements to come out and look that day. I had read reviews on Angie's List and thought they looked pretty good. He emailed me a quote and it looked ok. We had agreed on the areas to be point tucked, replaced bricks (approx. 10) and then he would seal & clean patio. He stated he could start that week, and wanted to come by and pick up a 50% deposit. He came out picked up the deposit and said he would start the next day. That's when it went South... He didn't start that day due to personal reasons. The next week we had some rain off and on. He did come out and grind out broken mortar and removed the broken bricks. The patio was left like that for about 2 weeks. Always some reason or other why he couldn't come rain, or busy. He finally came back on May 29 and worked in the afternoon ( we have him on security camera). Said he would be back in morning to finish up. He acid washed the areas only of his work, and then sealed work areas immediately after while patio still wet. I asked him if this was normal and he said the product he used this could be done. Our estimate (see attached) did not state he would only seal and clean the work areas. The mortared joints stand out from all the other red bricks as some is smeared over the brick. The patio still looks dirty in areas not touched. I guess I assumed that he was going to repair the broken and then clean and seal all of the patio. for $1400.00 The workmanship is poor, and I don't believe any sealer was really applied or if it was you can't tell. The patio does not bead up after rain like sealer normally does. I'm sure Mr Allen will have his own comments about what poor shape my patio was in, but again he's the mason, he could of quoted it for a better outcome and definitely been more professional .

I will use Jerry again. I was not home but he came home to a very professional repair job. Jerry knows what he is doing . I had two other companies come out and Jerry's estimate was close. He does not pull any punches and looked over the entire house to look for any other issues or causes when other companies had thieries I cant even describe.Good masonery craftsman

Jerry did an outstanding job. He promptly came out and discussed different repair scenarios based on his visual observation. When asked, he was willing to give his personal and professional opinions regarding various repair options. He did a great job matching the new brick and pavers with the existing materials and kept the work area clean after each work day. Jerry also took care of a couple other minor masonry items he noticed around the house as small bonus....he didn't have to do that. While I'm no expert, the masonry work he completed for this job appears to me to be top notch. I will definitely consider using Jerry for future masonry work. Thanks Jerry.

It went great! Jerry is an awesome brick mason and does quality work. One of the biggest obstacles was matching the brick and he did a great job. We had called 5 or 6 brick mason but nobody was available. Jerry was busy as well, but able to fit us in within a few weeks. His workmanship and attention to detail are exceptional.

I called Jerry on Monday 10/13 for an estimate on a stone arch repair, he said he would probably be able to come by that afternoon and look at the arch and let me know what needed to be done. I didn't hear from him again so I called on Wednesday 10/15 and left a message but never got a response. It's now 11/05 and I still haven't heard from him so I went with another mason.
