First, I did not find Rob on Angies List. Initially, I thought things went very well. Rob appeared on time, was dressed professionally and appeared very knowledgeable. He actually did work for me a few times. His hourly price seemed fair. Rob became frustrated with my recurring printer issue. He decided he wanted to wipe the hard drive on my laptop and do some more cleaning up in an effort to resolve the printer issue. He assured me I would not lose any of my information. Wrong! He lost several years of financial data in my Quicken program. He tried unsuccessfully to retrieve the lost data for several hours. When I indicated I did not feel good at the thought of paying him for time spent trying to retrieve several years of financial information he lost, he assured me that he wouldn't think of requesting payment. Of course, this was after I had already paid him several hundred dollars over a few months time. I cannot give an exact dollar amount because, that's right...he lost my information!! I wanted him to come back and do a quick cleanup because while trying to retrieve my Quicken data, he loaded a bunch of stuff on my computer, slowing it down considerably. (The slowness of my computer was one of the original reasons I contacted Rob.) He said he was swamped with work due to the holiday season. I told him I would just contact him upon our return to town in February. When we did return to town mid-February, I began trying to contact Rob. Over a couple of weeks, I left telephone messages, sent a text message (understanding he might not even have texting capabilities), and emailed him. I failed to hear anything back. My husband finally called and we immediately received a return call. Rob had numerous excuses for not returning my calls and/or responding to my e-mails, the most troubling being that he'd "had some IRS difficulties" and because of that he decided to just shut his business down. When I mentioned that from viewing his website he didn't appear to be out of business, he stated "they" were to have pulled that website down. I don't know who "they" are! NOTE: It was late February, 2010 when I last spoke to Rob, yet his website appears to still be up and running. It wasn't until I had a different computer technician come in to clean up after Rob did I realize just how unsatisfactory Rob's work had been. Someone else came in and addressed the pesky printer issue and increased the efficiency of my computer in barely over an hour at a fraction of the cost Rob charged. My Report for that technician has already been posted on Angies List. Bottom line, Rob spent several hours "attempting" the same tasks quickly mastered by the new technician, lost several years of my financial data, left me with the same issues I initially hired him to correct, and charged me several hundred dollars. This experience did prompt me to renew my Angies List membership and if I need to cut any household budget, it will be last on my list of expenses to cut! Lesson learned!!
Description of Work: Had some printer issues and needed several computers "cleaned up."
