They were efficient and took away the old insulation completely, to replace the same. I liked their services and will use the same in future.

He was very good. He's a really hard guy to get a hold off, you have to be persistent but it pays off. He was to spray, we live in a house that was built in 1870 so it has all sorts of wicky place and he sprayed his insulation all around the walls. All of the walls I think. Price is a little high but worth it I think. It took him a long time to get back to me initially. Once we made the initial contact there was no problem at all.
Description of Work: He added insulation to interior and exterior walls. We got Gibbons to help us make our geothermal system work.

We called to get an estimate for insulation. Mr. Gibbons called back after we had left an initial message and said that he was busy that particular week but he would call the end of the next week to setup an appointment for the estimate. He was extremely polite on the phone but we never heard from him again, and we even made a follow up call as a reminder.

It went flawlessly as planned with the exception of a small amount of foam that somehow got on the carpet of the stairs. This was professionally taken care of by a carpet cleaining service and paid for by Gibbons as it was their fault. It is now perfect.
Description of Work: Attic was insulated with fibeglass insulaton, which is known to lose it's insulation value the colder it gets. This insulation was kept, but packed down by hand and pulled back from the edges of the roofline. Cellulose insulation was then blown in at the edges of the roofline and over the top of the rest of the packed fiberglass insulation to a point of R-60. The crawlspace was also fixed by pulling all the loose vizqueen out, new vizqeen installed (6 mil thick) and all the joints sealed with tape. The vizqueen was then sealed to the walls and floor of the crawl and the walls insulated with foam, thereby encapsulating the crawls so that no moisture can penetrate the barrier.

Judging by the lack of responsiveness, they appeared very unprofessional.
Description of Work: Called for estimate and waited a long time for a call back. Jake Gibbons finally came out after several call backs, but went to the wrong address before finding the house. Took several days to get an emailed estimate and after calling to schedule the work, he said he would call back but never did. I finally called to say we were going with another company and was told that their priority was working on new home construction. I am glad business is so good that they can select their jobs but would have preferred they not have wasted my time. They should note on their company description that they do not work on older homes.

Description of Work: Paul Gibbons performed a very thorough examination of attick and crawl space, providing a detailed and well explained estimate. Attick insulation upgraded and vents installed. My heating bills were half this past winter. I will have them back to do crawl space work, I just need to change out sump pump first.

We ended up hiring them to take care of the rooms over the garage, the crawl space, as well as re-insulating the rest of the attic. After 16 years, much of the fiberglass insulation had shifted off of cathedral ceilings, no longer covered duct work, had blow back around certain areas, etc... We received a couple quotes. Gibbson was actually a little bit more expensive, however, their job quote was more detailed and their product a bit better, in our opinion. While we do not know much about insulation, it seems that the team was very thorough, met all needs and addressed all of our concerns, was excellent at clean-up, timely, etc.... I believe we will be very happy with the end result: better cooling in the summer and improved warming in the winter. Time will tell. At this point, if we did a room extension, we would hire them back.
Description of Work: I called Gibbons for insulation work around a bedroom/bath/closet over a garage. I also wanted them to look at our crawl space due to the poor temperature of the rooms above.

I contacted Paul Gibbons prior to checking Angie's List. He promptly returned my call. We arranged a time for him to visit my home and provide an estimate. He and I identified three areas that needed attention. The first being the insulation in the attic, the exterior basement wall just underneath the floor joists and the exterior walls. I schedule the attic work for the following Saturday. Paul and his crew arrived during the arranged time and completed the work. Paul made sure there was plastic everywhere his crew went to minimize the impact to the house. When the work was completed, they cleaned up after themselves and vacuumed the floors.
Description of Work: Gibbons insulation packed down the fiberglass insulation in the attic, installed vents around the perimeter of eaves and blew in 12" of cellulose insulation.

His visit was good and he seemed very knowledgable. However, his follow-up with quotes is horrid.
Description of Work: I had Paul out over three weeks ago to give me an estimate on insulating my crawl space because he had very good ratings with Angie's List. He promised to get a written estimate to me since I knew I was going to need to do the work in stages. I never heard back from him despite three voice messages to his phone numbers.

Fine- Mr. Gibbons was able to come to give me and estimate a couple days after I called I received a written estimate in the mail with in five business days. I think my A/C is not running as much. I am hoping I will be able to tell a difference this winter with the heat bill. He even called me the following week to see if everything went okay with the installation.

The estimate process was both educational and shocking. Mr. Gibbons showed me several places in the attic where the builder had done an extremely poor job on the insulation - things from areas with absolutely no insulation to places where the required insulation per code was not met. Mr. Gibbons gave an extremely detailed estimate. While the cost was higher than the other 2 companies (highly-recommended on Angie's List) his outline of his work was much more thorough. I had done a lot of research on home insulation on the Oak Ridge Building Envelope Research site so I knew the information Mr. Gibbons told me was accurate and honest. Mr. Gibbons obviously cares about the work he does, treating my home like it was his own. He explained the WHY of every part of the estimate - why the crew would do what they did and how it would improve the insulating properties in the attic. Because we had blown-in pink fiberglass insulation, the crew first hand-patted the insulation down to compress it. They blew cellulose insulation over it to give a value of R50. On the knee walls in the attic, the crew installed fan-fold board then sprayed 1/2 to 3/4-inch of urethane foam. They installed polystyrene attic vents where they were missing, blocking the ends with fiberglass bat pieces to prevent loose insulation from falling onto the soffit vents. Mr. Gibbons discovered the fireplace knee walls were not insulated so they installed mineral wool around the flue pipe and fiberglass batting on knee walls. They wrapped the air-return duct work with fiberglass batting then sprayed cellulose over that. It is too complicated to explain but they also properly insulated a bedroom closet that is built out into the attic over the garage. Previously that closet was practically an open door to the bedroom. The crew laid plastic down on all surfaces where they had to walk, protecting my rugs and floors. When the job was complete, they cleaned up to the point where you would not know they had been there. Mr. Gibbons' crew, including his son Jake, were very polite and professional. Mr. Gibbons did part of the work himself, but left mid-day. He returned and did a thorough inspection of all the work. I cannot say enough about the quality of work and professionalism of Gibbons Insulation. He even took pictures with my camera for me so I could email them to my family to show what an awesome job he did. ( I know, I'm odd!)
Description of Work: Provided detailed, thorough estimate. Mr. Gibbons walked our whole attic, squeezing, crawling all over to inspect the area. We upgraded attic insulation to R50, corrected several poorly-done insulated issues in attic. Initially this project was undertaken just to upgrade to R50, but Mr. Gibbons' inspection discovered issues that were contributing to rooms being too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer.

The job was quickly scheduled after I accepted the quote. A crew of three arrived on schedule and worked for over 5 hours. Paul Gibbons used 5 more bundles of insulation than was planned but did not charge extra. The attic space that he insulated is about 1650 square feet. He did an excellent job. He has my highest recommendation.
Description of Work: This job was a complete revamp of my attic insulation in order to bring it to an R-44 rating. Current insulation was hand patted down, installed new poly vents in Cathedral ceiling to bring up to proper height, wrapped mineral wool around fireplace flue, wrapped recess lights with metal+fiberglass, raised all cold and hot air ducts and placed insulation under them and blew in 12 inches of new cellulose insulation.

Terrific job. Paul was able to insulate areas that other contractors said were not possible, and we noticed the difference immediately. The upstairs bedroom now holds the heat much better (we no longer need to run a space heater all night long just to take the chill off.) So Paul's vast experience working on older houses was to our benefit. When he gave us the quote, it was itemized with various areas that needed insulation. Paul helped us narrow down the options to the most important ones and saved us money - but we would definitely consider having him come back to do more work, and warm up our house even more! He also was responsive to our request to use a particular type of cellulose that is safer for people with health concerns (treated with boric acid). The only issue was getting hold of him early on, as he was very busy, but he came when he said he would and did the job in a day. He and his crew member were very tidy - in fact the upstairs seemed even cleaner when they left than when they started!
Description of Work: Paul blew cellulose into our attic after assessing how we could get the best bang for our buck. Our old house already had some insulation but the upstairs bedroom was very cold, and it needed much more.

It went well. From my first inquiry it took a several days before a return call was made. This is a family owned business, and Jake indicated they had been swamped with business lately. He scheduled an appointment and came out to inspect and prepare a bid. He was very thorough in his inspection and gave me several ideas on things they could provide that would save money for our home. His bid included fixing the items he mentioned during the inspection, and I selected the foam as my top priority. We scheduled a date, however it had to be re-scheduled due to truck problems. They arrived the second time when scheduled, and sprayed the foam that afternoon. A few days later Jake called back to check and see if I was satisfied with the work done. For the most part is was excellent, however a few very small areas were missed and I asked if he could come take a look. Instead, they rescheduled and did the job again, covering the areas first missed, as well as spraying extra foam for good measure. Afterwards, Jake called back and asked if I was satisfied with the touch up work I indicated that I was and that his company did a great job.
Description of Work: Gibbons sprayed foam insulation along my band boards in the crawl space under the house. This was done to provide better insulation in the crawl space, and prevent air leakage that our previous fiberglass insulation didn't.

We have had a difficult time in the past with our builder-and the house is poorly insulated-the problem is-all the problems are behind the walls and they need to be torn up to find the problem in construction. Gibbons agreed to come out and explore with us and help us find the problem. They did it quickly without a lot of damage-and then they asked permission to go into another place we had not intended-but because of his experience in how houses are mad -he said that it might be a good idea. It was. So we filled those gaps too. After they left, the house temperature rose several degrees-and we did not have the heat on!! So they did a great job, I would highly recommend them to others-and it was at a very fair price!

Mr. Gibbons and crew did exactly what we hired them to do in a very courteous, professional manner.
Description of Work: During the flood on 6-7-08, our crawl space flooded. Once the faulty pipes were fixed, Mr. Gibbons and crew removed old, wet insulation, brought in over a ton of new pea gravel, removed the old visqueen, put in new visqueen, sprayed microban over the entire crawl space, cleaned up all debris, sealed exterior vents, rehung all loose wiring, and used hydraulic cement to fix leaks around pipes vented outside.
