Kevin from Decks by Wadsworth was very professional and gave a competitive estimate and the quality of the work doe was excellent. Description of Work: The owner came out to our home on April 17th and took measurements. Was supposed to give us an estimate that following week but never heard back from him. I left a message for him after 2 weeks and still haven't heard anything, It's been 4 weeks now. I realize this isn't uncommon with the decking companies. I've had a few others use the same excuse for not getting back to me which is, "I sent an estimate through your email, it must have been sent to junk mail by mistake so I'll resend it..." That's at least better than no response at all.

Due to all the rain we had in April, we expected the build would run longer than Kevin Wadsworth originally told us it would but to their credit, they finished right on time. Kevin met with us prior to construction, kept us completely informed during the project and was on site every day. They were at our house when they said they would be and cleaned everything up every evening. We are extremely pleased with the quality of the construction and our new maintenance free deck looks fantastic. I would highly recommend Decks by Wadsworth to anyone thinking about a new deck.

Description of Work: Kevin Wadsworth guaranteed us in the beginning when he would start on the deck and when he would finish. Kevin was always very punctual and he met with me both prior to the start of the project and at completion of the project. In addition every e-mail and phone call was responded to in a timely manner. There were a few obstacles concrete steps that were harder to remove then orig. anticipated) and Kevin and his crew were very accommodating and did a fine job on removing those without complaint. We are very pleased with the outcome of this deck. I admit it turned out even far better than I had anticipated. I would absolutely hire Decks by Wadsworth again in the future. We will also come highly recommend to anyone wanting a new deck.

+ -1 moreKevin Wadsworth guaranteed us in the beginning that he would start on the date he said he would begin and finish on the date he said he would be done. Kevin was always very punctual and he met the start and end dates of the project. In addition, he was able to complete the job on time even with some heavy rain on some of the days the crew was working. Early in the project some minor unexpected design changes were needed due to hidden obstacles, and Kevin and his crew were very accommodating with the changes. We have had many compliments from friends and neighbors who have seen our deck. We are very pleased with the results and would hire Decks by Wadsworth again in the future. We would also recommend them to anyone wanting a new deck.
Description of Work: Removed our 28-year old deck and brick patio in one day. They built a new 2-tier deck about three times the size of our old deck in three days time. Kevin used hidden fasteners on the boards of our new deck, so we have no screws or nail heads showing. The use of the hidden fasteners has made our new deck look much nicer. The hidden fasteners were an extra cost, but well worth the money.

+ -1 moreKevin showed up right on time. He had a really nice book of business with some really nice pictures of his previous work. He made us feel very comfortable when talking to him. He gave us some really good ideas about the look, size and location of the deck and his ideas were all spot on for what we were looking for. Kevin even went as far as to sketch out what it would look like. We scheduled the work to be done the end of April beginning of May and we look forward to having Kevin and his crew back out to the house. I will fill out another report for this company when the work is completed. We made several phone calls to other deck/patio companies and by far got the best feeling from the company.

+ -1 moreBEWARE OF THIS COMPANY......DID NOT PERFORM WORK AS PRESENTED AND WERE VERY HOSTILE TOWARDS ME WHEN WE TRIED TO GET THEM TO FIX THE PROBLEMS.
Description of Work: Would never hire this company again. Job was not completed according to the original plan presented to us. They changed the plan in the middle of building the deck and left me with no alternative other than what they presented me with. The original deck was to have a wood landing (per drawing). They left me with a landing filled in with large stones that are extremely difficult to walk on, not to mention ugly in appearance. After several comments from various people on how poorly this was done, I tried to get Kevin Wadsworth to come back and replace rocks with the wood decking, which was the way it was drawn. He refused to do this and I told him I would withhold the remaining payment of $637.50 until the rocks were replaced with the wood. He then threatened me by saying "I'll see you in court". The worst however was when he sent his son to stain our deck. After applying the stain I noticed it was very uneven and not applied to the inside of the exposed part of the wood. It was so bad I asked him to please apply another layer as the first coat did not cover. He became very argumentative with me and again refused to honor my request for a better application. We had two electricians that were working in the yard and they heard his entire conversation with me. They came up to me after he took off, paint can in hand, and expressed to me "we cannot believe how he talked to you". After my "conversation" with him, I felt very threatened by him and was concerned for my safety. It was that bad. I sent Kevin Wadsworth a check for the final amount, mainly because I felt he would go thru with his threat. I want nothing more to do with this man, his son or his company. I am left with an unsightly, unsafe landing which I will have to hire someone else to finish. I would never recommend this company to anyone. PLEASE BEWARE!

+ -1 moreWe had two old decks that were rotting on the very shady, backside of our house; and one next to our swimming pool. I developed some preliminary drawings to use to get estimates, which I did from three different companies. Decks by Wadsworth's quote was in the middle of the three. We did not go with the lowest bid, because he did it very part-time and it would have taken him months. Wadsworth had a dedicated crew who had the decks built in a matter of a few weeks. Kevin Wadsworth and his guys were very accommodating and flexible as new ideas surfaced and modifications occured during the project. They worked every day that the weather permitted. They were really great to work with. We couldn't have chosen a better contractor for this job. We love our new decks.

+ -1 moreKevin came out to give us an estimate on 3-2008. During the estimate procedure he came up with a couple of ideas that we had not considered and we accepted his recommendations. I was very happy with the input of his ideas. Kevin and his crew were punctual and completed the work in the time frame that was stated. The composite part of the deck was constructed well. However the corner bench was not constructed well. The fit and finish of the bench was not done well, and it does not sit even on the deck. I would probably use these folks again. However, I would have a better contract written, with more details of expectations. I would be certain to have a better understanding about what is to be constructed with composite material, and what would be constructed of wood. It looks like they know what they are doing regarding the composite, but I am not sure with regard to building a bench. We are unhappy with the way the bench turned out. The rest of the deck is good. I would be sure to have an understanding on who will do the staining. Better communication, by asking more questions on my part may have prevented some of this issue.

+ -1 moreWe received quotes for composite and wood decking from several companies. Kevin's prices were by far the best and his wood decking material is superior to what other contractors use. (His wood in kiln dried, straight, shouldn't warp, and mostly free of knots). He was able to schedule our deck much more quickly than originally anticipated, agreed to a couple quirky requests of mine, and his crew completed the project skillfully.

+ -1 moreI got my estimate in May after calling three companies. Kevin came out and worked with me to have a design ready in time for our owner's association to review. They booked the date for early July and showed up exactly as scheduled. They had the entire deck finished in two days. It is extremely well done, especially the pergola with the porch swing. The new deck creates a wonderful outdoor living space. All of the neighbors are envious, and some may want to build a similar deck in the future.
Description of Work: They installed a new deck on the back of my town home. In addition, I had an old porch swing that I wanted to keep; they built a spectacular pergola on the corner of the deck to hang the swing.

+ -1 moreIn spite of higher quote we choose Kevin since he seemed competent & service oriented. Kevin told how when he had unhappy customers in the past he has torn out & rebuilt decks to keep customers happy. In 1 year we have had mold problem with the brand name decking. We used cleaner/mold repellent & mold quickly came back. Kevin stated that the manufacturer s local rep would do nothing since they felt that any mold problem was due to poor maintenance, & he offered to provide us with his telephone number if we wished to pursue this further with the brand name decking company. Our contract for deck was with Kevin, and he did not disclaim any warranties. We used this decking only after Kevin assured us that it was the best deck product and very low maintenance. Kevin built this deck with materials he recommended and we paid Kevin for the deck. I am displeased that Kevin after being informed of a problem pointed to a third party and accepted no responsibility and did not rectify the problem.
Description of Work: Decks by Wadsworth (Kevin Wadsworth) constructed our deck during the summer of 2005. Decks by Wadsworth built a deck (approximately 600 square feet) with a brand name decking composite on the back of our home. Kevin Wadsworth told us that he only used brand name decking for his composite decks because it was the best and most maintenance free.

+ -1 moreIt went pretty well...met with Kevin and went over design details just before we left for 10 day vacation. Deck was nearly completed upon return. Kevin took care of any issues that we raised and made sure it was complete to our satisfaction before accepting final payment.
Description of Work: Totally removed a large multi-level 20+ year old Redwood deck and replaced it with a larger deck (approx. 1500 sq ft), incorporating curves, gazebo, grill area, etc. Used his own design hidden fasteners. Deck looks great...due to weather we have to wait till summer to stain/seal.
