D & M Concrete

Original concrete driveway dated to construction of our home in 1975. Another longer section was added by previous owners around 1990. The older drive was in poor condition and several sections of the newer drive were cracked. Took at least a couple of months between Doug's coming to give us an estimate and doing the work. He was up front that it would be a while because of obligations they already had. Timing was fine, as we wanted to have it done mid-Fall. We had some questions about what would/should be done; D&M was responsive to our emailed questions. They let us know about a week in advance that we should call to get utilities marked - we received a heads-up a day or two before work began. The work took three days - the first day most of the old concrete was removed and one section prepared. The second day the first section was poured and the rest of the old concrete was removed. The third day the second section was poured and finish work was completed - this included surface sealant and multiple cuts - more than the original drive had. A day or two later it rained and the temperature dropped. Good timing! Additional work included a new half curb replacing a cracked taller curb - should be better for backing out onto the court facing our garage and will be much better for riding bicycles from the court to the drive. Because of the unusually cold recent weather, we waited 28 days before using the drive and are avoiding parking on it for a while longer. It looks great and will look even better after we finish replacing the dirt/grass along it's edges. The work agreement spells out that all landscaping, etc. is the homeowner's responsibility. Apparently, the gravel base under the original drive was thinner than optimal; the thicker base under our new drive is a good thing.One small detail: the concrete leading to our garage service door is now nicely sloped from its threshold down to the driveway surface.a few feet away. Also, the new driveway surface matches very nicely where it meets up with the sidewalk to our front door. Doug was present for the work and was part of the work team. Everyone was friendly and responsive to questions. Nice job.

Appt went very well. Estimate was very very reasonable and compared to one other quote. We plan to have the work done in Spring 2014. The estimate was roughly $4,000 for a 16 x 20 stamped concrete patio and walkway.

Overall the project went well. Work was completed when the contractor said it would be done. D&M did a quality job. We are very satisfied with their work.

The work that we had done was fantastic. We worked with Janet in scheduling and Doug in templating and the actual concrete work. They were prompt in setting up a consultation and delivering a quote. Shortly after we agreed on the price for the work, they set up a time to set the forms and then to pour. The project was delayed because of the potential for rain on the day after the forms were set. Around 10 am on Day 3, they arrived to do the pour and they were finished with the pour and the texture and color release by about 3 pm. Approximately 3 days after the pour, they came back to seal the concrete. My wife and I were pleased with the results and the value. Though it has only been 3 months, and time will ultimately prove the quality of the job, we have not experienced the "peeling" and "fading" that some concrete jobs suffer from. The team that Doug brought out was friendly, mindful of keeping heavy machinery off of new grass, and did a great job of cleaning up after the work was finished. I will attach pictures of the work to this review.

I contacted Janet at D & M Concrete who set up a meeting with Doug Rees (owner) for an estimate for concrete work on a new sunroom addition and patio. Doug arrived at the appointed time, listened carefully to our requirements and then provided us an estimated cost of our project (which was very reasonable. Doug was very professional, congenial and willing to explain all the details of the major (for us) project. Shirley and I had not done anything like this before. Doug and his crew (Terry, Andrew & Mikey) arrived at the designated time and promptly began work. Doug and his crew were very professional and worked well together which expedited the job. They had all the necessary equipment to do the job which also expedited the job. They worked the entire day (it was 95+ degrees) with few breaks; removing old concrete, digging the footers and pouring the concrete. A few days later on Saturday another crew (the concrete masons) came and placed the concrete blocks for the foundation. They were another group of professionals who worked so fast we hardly got to know them. We had left the house and when we returned they were gone and the job was finished. An outstanding group of professionals I must say. On Monday, the original crew returned, poured the sunroom foundation as well as the patio and cleared the working area of all debris. Everything was done in a timely and professional manner and it looked great. One of the crew, Mikey, created two personal concrete patio stepping stones inscribed with our names and of Maggie (our Yorkie). These stepping stones really added a personal touch to the project and we appreciated the extra effort. We had forgotten that the tinted patio needed to be sealed. I received a call from Janet on the following Saturday who told me Doug would be out to complete sealing the patio. We were really surprised when Doug and Janet appeared in our backyard that evening (after dark) to seal the concrete. We thought that was above and beyond normal customer service. We would recommend D & M Concrete to everyone who desires outstanding concrete work. A "great" job well done.

All of the existing concrete was very badly cracked and the gravel part of the drive was in need of more gravel so I decided to have all replaced with new concrete. I was also tired of the snow blower picking up gravel. They were prompt, cheerful & courteous and went above and beyond when they ran into unforseen issues. Such as having to deal with the 12" footer all around the existing patio and that the conduit was inside the existing concrete pad between the house and garage. There was no way to save it so they obtained an electrician to replace it. In the almost two yeare since this was done all the only place the concrete has cracked is in the designed expansion joints except for two short minor hairline cracks. I am very happy with their work ethic and the quality of their work. I would definitely use them again.

I would recommend D & M Concrete to anyone interested in concrete work. Doug and Janet were both great to work with and I will definitely use D & M Concrete next time I need any concrete work done.

Doug came out and gave us a quote. They came out and did the work. It was easy and a great experience.

Doug and his team did a fabulous job! I had asked for a quote for this work in the fall of 2012, and Doug arrived at my home as promised. He took the time to explain the work that needed to be done, and gave me an estimate of how long it would take. Additionally, he gave me a couple of different options with prices. When I was ready to start the project, I called the office, and was put on the schedule. FYI, I called in June and had to wait for several weeks before they could start the work. Doug and his team arrived during the scheduled time, and did an excellent job! I was home during the project, and I overheard Doug instructing his guys along the way (I really liked that he was coaching and mentoring his guys with a lot of humor thrown in the mix). After the concrete was poured and stamped, he applied the finish and the 'release', which had to setup for a day or two. I have dogs, so Doug accommodated the fact that they needed to access my yard. As soon as the release could be washed from the patio, he was on site to finish everything so my dogs could have their backyard back:) I was extremely happy with this work, and my patio looks like a million bucks!

Doug and his team did an excellent job. It definitely shows when a company cares about their work. We have been getting a lot of compliments from the neighbors. Will definitely use again for any other concrete needs. *** Follow up... I contacted D&M Concrete on March 10 regarding excessive popping and scaling of my driveway. I have contacted them numerous times regarding a resolution to this problem. I keep getting the same response, which is "we are working on a resolution'. I feel they are just blowing me off hoping I just go away. I've had many experiences with concrete driveways, but have never had one experience this much deterioration over one winter. After 4 months, some sort of resolution should have been reached on how to solve and correct this problem. Unfortunately, the longer they wait, the worse my driveway gets as it continues to deteriorate.

Great service and delivered exactly what was expected on time and at a price that was more than competitive. I have recommended D&M Concrete services to others and will definitely continue to do so.

Requested estimate in April. Doug came out within a few days and gave us a written estimate at a fair price. I called them a few weeks later and advised we would like the work done after the 4th of July. I contacted them again 2nd week of July and was told they would get it done by end of July. Doug plus crew of 3 came early on July 26 and completed the job that day. Very nice work.

I talked to the lady in the office at D&M Concrete and explained to her what type of concrete work I needed which was to level the apron and a square of the driveway and sections of the common walk. She told me that they didn't do that type of concrete work but knew who did. She referred me to A=1 Concrete Leveling out of Zionsvillle, gave me their telephone number and also the name of the owners. I called A-1 the same date, talked to Tracy and set up a time on 6/20 for an estimate at 11:00. She was there right on time and explained exactly what they would be doing. I called her back the next day and set an appointment to have the work done on 7/1. The crew was right on time, did a great job with leveling the concrete and did a great job of cleaning up afterwards. I will definitely use them again and will recommend them to my neighbors. In fact, two of my neighbors came over and watched them work and took business cards so they can do work for them also.

The first time I called, Janet advised me that Doug and the crew work during the week, and do the estimates on the weekends, and wanted to make sure I was okay with that. I am a business owner myself, and appreciated her straight forward explanation and totally understood and had no problem with that whatsoever. Doug showed up exactly on time (in the pouring down rain!) and was very personable, non rushed, listened to our ideas and gave us his estimate before he left that day. We found D & M on Angie's List, and due to the great referrals here and the way Doug and my husband (and myself) hit it off, we decided to go with Doug and his bid (Doug was not the lowest nor the highest bidder. We chose him on his Angie's List reputation and the way we felt about him the day of the estimate.). Janet kept in contact to let me know when the job was coming up on the schedule - they also coordinated with my fence guy (will be having a section of fence/gate added) and showed great respect for one another during that meeting as well. Doug and his crew showed up when they said they would, without ANY messing around and got right on the project so fast I could hardly snap the photos quick enough! I have hired contractors in the past, but never had fun with a crew like this group. They were hard working, VERY polite and considerate (to me AND to one another). The owner of the company was ON SITE with his sleeves rolled up and working hard with the crew and overseeing the project EVERY second. And I haven't even got to mention yet what a GORGEOUS job they did taking our idea (and badly spray painted yard) and making an absolutely beautiful patio that's nearly the size of our house. The fanned edge is absolutely beautiful and I couldn't even wait until it dried before I got on Angie's List to write them an excellent review. Wow, what a GREAT company to work with. AND I SAVED MORE than enough from this ONE project to totally pay for my Angie's List subscription. I'm sold. On Angie's List, AND with Doug and Janet and the gang from D & M Concrete. D&M was a pleasure to work with. Doug was prompt in providing an estimate and Janet does a great job communicating the schedule. They always called in advance before showing up to perform the work and always showed up when they said they would. The team of workers were very professional and cleaned up at the end of each day and at the end of the job. The quality of the work was very good and the new porch and walkway look great. I concacted D&M for an estimate to pour a new driveway and porch.I talked to Doug to set up a time to come out to my home for the estimate. He showed up when he said he would and was very informative about how the work was to be done. He not only listened to what I wanted done he also offered many good sugestions about how to make what I wanted done look even better. Doug and his crew showed up at the time we agreed on and went right to work. They were very friendly and professional and when the job was completed the clean up was thorough and well done. I would use D&M again and would highly recommend them to anyone.

Concrete driveway was poured on September 5 and 6, 2012. My son came to visit on September 18 and noticed one section of the driveway already had hairline cracks close to the edge of the new concrete. The cracks are near the edge of an existing patio that is several inches higher than the driveway. I am concerned that freezing and thawing will make the cracks larger and cause the area to crumble. Janet answers the phone at D&M Concrete and is the only person I talked to after the driveway installation. Doug never called me to discuss the problem after I contacted Janet. Each time I called or e-mailed D&M Janet said she would check with Doug and get back to me. Janet said Doug would come look at my driveway. If Doug did come out he never called beforehand. I would have made sure I was home so we could talk in person. I never received a phone call, e-mail or voice mail saying Doug had been out to look at the driveway. The only answer I received was in reply to my e-mail. D&M stated 100% silicone caulk should be applied. I told D&M that caulk was not an acceptable solution to a brand new driveway. Even if caulk were the correct solution, I should not be responsible for buying and applying it. After that, each time I contacted D&M Janet said she would check with Doug but nobody every got back to me. They are ignoring my calls and e-mails. I chose D&M because they had such a good rating on Angie's List but now regret using them because once the job was done and payment received they didn't try to work with me. D&M's unprofessional manner with e-mails was very frustrating. The first couple of e-mails Janet sent me went to my SPAM box. There was no subject nor company name to indicate who had sent the e-mails so I deleted them. This caused delays in contacting D&M.

We thought at first to use A-1 Concrete to level our patio. Ron from A-1 came out and reviewed things and said he could do the job but it would be cheaper and best to replace the patio itself rather than level it. Doug Rees from D&M came out and gave us an estimate and we also decided to have him replace the front walk while he was doing the patio work. Doug told us he was booked out for 5 weeks, but it actually was 7-8 weeks before he could work us in his schedule. It was well worth it. The professionalism of Doug and his crew is commendable. While taking out the old patio, Doug discovered some structural problems with the facing on the foundation of the house itself. Water that had gathered on the patio and pooled and caused this 12 in wide board to become rotten. It needed to be replaced before they poured the cement. We did not know what to do, and Doug contacted an excellent contractor, Ray Meredith, who got up from his dinner table and came immediately to the house to assess the problem. Not only did he give us an estimate but was able to do it the next morning at 8 am and have it done before the concrete arrived at noon. The patio never looked so good ever. The same with the front walk. When you see it, it does not just look like a simple poured walk/patio. The swirl texture and boarders make the work look almost as if it was a "carpet". The communication of the progress, what was being done, etc. was commendable. I would highly recommend this company for any concrete work. Their honesty, frankness, and ability to explain and point out things, only makes you feel as if you had a personal family professional giving you information and suggestions.

Mr. Rees was able to give us a quote the day after we contacted him. He showed up on the arranged day, and he did the work without us being on-site. The site was cleaned up and looked great when he left. His communications prior to the work was good, and we knew what to expect. I would definitely use him again.

The owner and his two helpers were great! They worked fast and together. Great team!
