D & J HUNT MASONRY

The initial job was signed off to start on June 6, 2014 and should have been done 3 or 4 days later, but didn't get completed until July 27. It was a small job, using pavers lay a 10 foot long sidewalk, and tuck point and seal a small porch measuring about 5 foot by 10 foot. They demanded final payment the minute the job was done, while everything was still wet from sealing. Payment was made, and within a few days of it drying, we found major unsightly stains on the porch ranging from brown to black which were not there previous to the service. We also noticed some tuck pointing that they had failed to complete. Initially, and throughout the project, the communication was infrequent, and often I didn't hear back. But at least it was cordial, now that they've got their money though, it has all turned around. After noticing the issues with their work after the drying was complete, I contacted them to let them know that they would need to come back out. She told me last weekend that they would be out Saturday to fix the issues. When they didn't show up I text them, she responded that they would be there Sunday. They again didn't show up and wouldn't respond to any call or text. Here is her response back to me from Monday afternoon- "Mr. Keesling; We didn't "trash" your porch. The old mortar reacted poorly to the cleaner. We cleaned it last Tuesday. I am not "avoiding" you because I am away from my phone on a Sunday. I would have let you know today, your hateful messages just beat me. We do have other work and a schedule, and a home, and a yard, and kids, grandkids,dog,cat,and all the stuff that goes with life. We put you on the schedule to come take care of that. We will be there in 10 to 15 working days. Thank you D&J Hunt Masonry." I responded back just asking for clarification on when they would actually be there because she had committed to 2 seperate days and never showed up. I would not use this company in the future or recommend them to anyone else.

They were pleasant and really professional. It took a little longer than we thought it would, but other than that, we were happy with it.

Contracts were signed on 9/24/13. The job D & J Hunt Masonry was hired to do was to tear down and rebuild 2 chimneys. A 45% down payment of $1,145 was paid for both chimneys. To date, the front chimney has been torn down and partially rebuilt, but not completed. The rear chimney has not been worked on. The last day worked was 11/8/13 & the last contact was on 11/10/13. As of today's date (12/9/13) I have not seen or heard from D & J Hunt Masonry; my chimney has been exposed to the elements, and do not know what the outcome of this project will be. As a result many of the ratings above have been selected as "F" or "N/A." If anything changes the review will be updated if allowed.

This house was built in 1961. We have had a leak on the back side (in the garage) of our chimney as well as having a problem with birds nesting in the flu and some bricks that were damaged.. We had checked "the list" and requested quotes through it from 3 providers. After hearing from none of them, called three to set up appts. One we left a message and never received a call back. Two did set appts. and we found them to be very knowledgeable but incredibly expensive for the size chimney we have. Feeling overwhelmed by the expense of the quotes, I called Nick Heldman whose company had done our siding & roof in 1999. Nick referred me to David Hunt of D & J Hunt Masonry. I left a message on the evening of 9-10 and Dave called me the next day to set up a time to come and see what needed to be done. He & his lovely wife Jamie came on the 12th and gave us a quote of 725.00 to supply all the materials, replace 8 (actually took 14) bricks, take off the old concrete cap and replace with a new 4" concrete cap, as well as install a chimney flu cap...(no more nesting birds:) and they did tuck pointing around all the bricks. Dave's quote was only half of the first quote we had and about 2/3s less than the 2nd one....God bless this man for helping us.. Dave & Jamie had an opening on the 14th and even through they had a late start due to another job running over, immediately set up and worked straight through until they were done. Dave believes in treating others as he would like to be treated. We are very grateful to Nick for giving us Dave's number and for all Dave & Jamie did for us. We feel confidant the chimney is NOW safe to use.

HE WAS EXCELLENT. VERY CORDIAL AND PRICED VERY WELL, COMPARED TO OTHER MASONRY BIDS THAT I HAD OBTAINED.
