TJ's Chimney Sweep

The price they quoted for the service call did not include 2 of the fireplaces even though I asked for all three to be inspected. The tech did a great job but they did not make the price clear before I booked the service. When I called about it the person on the phone said that it had to be reviewed before they could quote the other 2 fireplaces however I was told there is a standard price for that? She was not upfront and did not offer assistance. Which is it, can they or can they not quote an estimate for the service call on the phone? They charged much more then the estimate and was not honest how they would charge for the service call. It was almost twice what was quoted.

Rob & Jordan were early to our assigned time. They were professional, friendly and knowledgeable. They protected our flooring and cleaned up as they went along. They explained everything throughly and answered all questions we asked them. The work was completed in a timely manner. Very pleased with their work

I had water leaking in my chimney box, they figured out the issue (damper wooden close all the way) and that was the only problem they found. I didn't have to pay anything. Another company came out and gave me an estimate to repair masonry that would have cost thousands of dollars

They were very professional and gave a quick estimate. They were right in what they decided and worked quick. They aimed to please. They got rained out and came the next day. They provided high quality work.

He came out to look at my chimney to see why i had such a bad backflow of smoke into my house. Gave me his opinion and options to fix this issue. He did not even charge me for the inspection. When I am ready to fix the problem, I will be calling TJ's again to complete the job!

The chimney sweep was running late, which I found out when I called. When he arrived, he was very professional and efficient. He also did a small repair for me. Overall, I was pleased with the service and would use this provider again.

The tech was on time and was very thorough and professional. He explained what he was doing and recommended repairs and options for converting back to wood burning. My complaint with the company is that they quoted me $189.00 on the phone when I scheduled the service. I verified this price when they called last week to confirm the appointment. When I received the bill from the tech it was for $219. I told him about the discrepancy between the bill and what I was quoted and he indicated that the lower price was for only fireplace inserts. No mention of this was made when I booked the appointment. or when they called to confirm. I called the office about the discrepancy but they would not honor the price I was quoted. They quoted over $1200 in repair work that I considered having them perform, but since they won't honor the price they quoted me I will look for someone else to perform the work Update: I was able to contact the business owner and he agreed to honor the quoted price.

Our chimney was showing cracks in the firebox. TJ's came out and did an inspection and recommended new flashing on the outside and grouting on the inside. When they came, they put down cloths to keep the dirt contained. Was very professional in his demeanor. Efficient and quick. Cleaned up after all was done. I guessed on the cost since I really don't remember, but it's close to that.

This is our third fireplace insert. The previous one from another vendor produced soot and could not corrected. I called T.J.'s to see about a new unit. During the estimate visit, I got to discussing the other nagging problems we had, and was surprised to learn T.J.'s has expanded the chimney sweep business with other specialties. Shortly I got the estimate for the new fireplace which included piping and a venting unit up on the rooftop, the skylight to brighten our living room, and the installation of the new dryer venting up through the attic and the roof. Once I agreed to the contract, the fireplace insert was ordered from Chicago; as soon as it arrived the job began. The insert was a tight fit, and required a lot of old metal to be removed from the original fireplace box. Then the propane line connection turned out to be a problem. To be honest, the difficulty of the installation required several visits, for various reasons, but we were patient, as I'd not waited until autumn to get the work done. At one point, the installers ruptured the old propane flex pipe and created a leak. I was told it was my responsibility to get that replaced. But when I went to the office and pointed out there had been no leak until the installer broke the line, Gabe replaced it and eventually got the insert connected and in place. The two other parts of the job went smoothly, my wife and I are very happy with the work. Despite the extra visits and such, T.J.'s stuck to the original estimate and did not apply any additional charges. In addition, during the course of the job, Gabe noticed some outdoor problems with masonry, and informed me they also can do repairs of that sort. I was pleased to learn that, and expect in the near future to contact him for that work.

They were very responsive. They were very good but I decided to go with another company that said that they could tear it halfway down and rebuild it for a lot less money. I thought they were a good company even though they didn't do the work for me. The estimate was about $10000. They were good.

Lead contractor was abrupt when I asked him to provide details of the work performed. He started rattling off a verbal list of items completed so quickly I asked him to start again. I asked to see the work done outside and he acted annoyed that I inquied about the door added to the chimney and the new vent cap. I do not recommend this contractor for future work.

Service was fine they are good folks and they took care of us.

Their propsal was good and the price seemed reasonable. We went to the store to see the inserts and set a date for the work to be done. They showed up on time to do the work. The firebox did not need to be repaired , so they reduced the cost from the proposal by the amount shown. It only took 1 day instead of the 2 that was estimated. The wrong trim for the insert was delivered, so they came back when the part came in and installed it. They showed me how to control the fireplace insert. They were friendly and knew what they were doing. I was very satisfied with the whole experience.

He arrived 15 minutes early. After listening to my concerns, he went to work and cleaned the chimney pulling very little dust into the house. He was done in about 30 minutes and then went outside to inspect the flashing on the roof. He said everything looked good. He recommended that I think about replacing a few pieces on the interior of the chimney but said it could be done in the next couple of years. He was very polite, professional, and I was pleased with the service. And I got an Angie's List discount!

Well, I made this appointment on August 25th. On Friday, September 19, I closed on my house, and at 2:16pm, I got a call from the company confirming my appointment on Monday at 4:00pm. At 4:15pm on Monday, I called to find out if they were at the right address. The lady came back to the phone and said, "I'm sorry. We aren't going to come to your house today. How about the same time on Wednesday?" I was very upset. I had not heard anything from anyone at the company about not coming, and I had taken off work early to come to the house to be sure someone was there to let them in. Why would I want to take off work early again on Wednesday? What I got from her was, "Well, I got busy helping customers that came in to the store and answering the phone. I just forgot to call you." What I heard was "You aren't that important to us." I kept insisting that they make an early appointment with me on Tuesday because of their lack of service on Monday. She finally got the owner of the company on the phone. I told him what I told her. I also mentioned that the carpet cleaning people were coming out on Tuesday morning, so I wanted to be sure they got in and out before the carpet people came to clean just in case they made a mess. He promised they wouldn't. He kept telling me that because I was so far from the office that he wasn't sure he could get a crew out there early. (they are in Greenfield, and I am almost to Brownsburg.) What I kept hearing was, "We don't really service your side of town, and it is an imposition for us to service you." That's not what they said, but that's what I heard because they kept referencing how far I was from their office. I didn't realize where they were located until a couple of weeks before the appointment. If they didn't want to service me because I was so far from their office, they should have told me that when I was making the appointment. That way, I could have found a different company to do this. I wanted to establish a relationship with a company since I am a new homeowner, but it won't be this company. The positives..They did come otu early on Tuesdady. I did apprecate the education on the chimney. He gave me some really helpful information concerning when to use my fireplace and when not to. That was priceless information. I have to admit that the owner was right. They had a tarp, booties, etc. So, there was no way they would have made a mess on my carpet. Now, I know. Had this happened when it was supposed to, I would have given this company all A's, but I don't like fighting with companies about when they are coming out, especially when I made the appointment a month in advance and you confirmed my appointment.

They did a great job cleaning and inspecting our chimney which hadn't had any work done on it for many years. Punctual professional and did a good job of keeping everything clean. Will use them again and highly recommend them.

Replaced existing crown with new proper over hanging crown, applied Heatshield smoke chamber sealant to fill in holes and missing mortar, parge entire smoke chamber, applied Paint-n-Peal fireplace cleaner around fireplace opening to remove smoke and soot stains from brick to restore appearance . Provided a detailed work proposal, scheduled the work quickly, very professional two person team who work well together, provided me with before and after photos of smoke chamber so that I could see the work performed. I was very satisfied with the work performed and would recommend for chimney cleaning and repairs.

They charge $3500 for chimney repair. They did a good job. They were here when I expected. They fixed the chimney and it looks great. I did have an estimate. I just hired them because the neighbor said they did a good job. I intend to use them in the future.

The company was able to schedule us on the day of our telephone call and provide an estimated cost of repair. The repairman arrived within the estimate arrival window given over the phone. He looked at our stove, explained what (and why) needed to be done and performed the required gasket replacement in a timely fashion. The final cost was almost exactly what was estimated (actually a bit below). Additionally, since we'd paid for both a full package of gasket rope and a tube of hi temp caulk, the repairman left the excess with us for potential future use.

I have used this service for nearly 20 years and have had nothing less than top notch experiences with this firm. They even were able to repair my chimney after a 2001 lightening strike destroyed my chimney. They did a great job.
