MH was hired as a sub by my General Contractor for a home remodeling project. We did not hire him directly. He did a good job while he was here, but there were some items that had to be redone. (He replaced some old dimmer switches with basic on/off switches so I had him redo those.) The GC also made a doorway a foot smaller than what the plans specified so that had to be opened up and redone. The electrical had to be moved to enlarge the opening per our original plans. We did have the GC open the doorway up even bigger. The job was finished in December however my Interior Designer forgot to order 2 lights that were supposed to be part of the original job. And we had a chandelier that was supposed to be replaced, but we had to reorder that light too. The electrician was paid in full in December, with the agreement by all parties that he needed to come back and install the lights once they arrived. I contacted him early May to see if he could come out the week of May 21 to finish this project. He said he would and that he'd be back in touch by a certain date. That date came and went so I contacted him again, and again he said that week would be fine but he'd let me know which date. I never heard back to I contacted him again, and my husband left him a message also stating that since the electrician was prepaid he didn't seem to be in a hurry to come back and he hoped that wasn't going to be a problem. At the end of the week of the 21st we still hadn't heard back so I sent an email stating we would find another electrician and would he please refund the portion of the job for which he'd been prepaid.. I received a response that after receiving my husband's and quot;rudeand quot; message he felt we needed to find another electrical contractor. he went on to say that he didn't appreciate how we treated any of the contractors who had been at our house (we sustained damage to our wood floors, carpets and other personal items totalling over $7000 during this remodeling and yes, we did have some words with the GC and the painter!!) He also said he didn't owe us any money because of the extra work he did when he had to do things twice. Again, that was due to contractor error so I am unclear why the homeowner should have to pay for something that the GC did not properly communicate to his electrician.
