Description of Work: Scope of project: Landscaping and build an outdoor kitchen. |Communication: Very poor and not timely. When crew was on site, had best communication from them. However, was not positive about potential outcome of the work. The President, Josh, was busy on other sites and was rarely on site and not very responsive to questions and issues. | |Project timing: Again; very poor. Project was continually delayed due to weather and untimely communication from Josh. When finally set to start, project had delays due to lack of crew and weather, but no efforts where made to get us back on time schedule. Ultimately, contracts were signed at the end of June, with hope of finish before Labor Day or shortly after. Kitchen was still unfinished in October. | |Landscaping: Was okay. Most of the design was done based on our designs and the hardscape contractor's work. Communication again fell short and I removed one area from the work due to delays, wrong plants, etc. Questions still remain about charges from plants and over buy of sod for yard. Was all done completely on their schedule, not on ours. | |Outdoor kitchen: Still unfinished and hiring another contractor to complete. Counter top was to be an aged barn beam type wood. Arrived as a fresh cut piece of poplar and had a 1" split within one month. Completely inappropriate piece of wood for a counter and design was not communicated to us until we questioned installation which was then adjusted but added cost to the project from the original projection. Eventually counter was removed, most cost removed from the contract except unacceptable braces that will be removed and replaced for new counter as additional expense. Stoneridge's resolution was to return counter to woodcraftmen, have it glued and clamped and reinstalled in the spring. It still would not have been fully dried and crack would likely reemerge with humidity. |Wiring for some lighting was unacceptable and will be resolved by another contractor at additional cost. Communication in this area was also very poor. | |Feature: A glass inlay through the cement pad of the outdoor kitchen. Was unacceptable and required several attempts to resolve before it had to be torn out and completely reinstalled, but still not to expectations. Josh was given several examples of what the finished product was expected to be and did not research further. Work Crew even mentioned "there are companies that do this professionally". Inlay is still not as expected and will eventually have it torn out and replaced by another contractor at additional cost. | |Main issue in this project was poor communication from Josh. Promises and good ideas up front, but no communication after. Even with questions on our end, work would be completed incorrectly before questions answered. This project now appears to have been out of Stoneridge's scope and will be finished at additional costs by another contractor. |

Response from Stone Ridge Landscaping Inc.
[Member Name Removed], I appreciate the feedback on this project experience, but have reservations to the final project outcome described. Multiple meetings on-site, emails, and phones conversations took place during the planning phase from March through late-June. Additional project support continued by me (Josh) via multiple on-site meetings, emails, and phone calls during the project as well as through our on-site team leaders. We provided multiple opportunities and options for completing this project successfully that were declined or changed. The custom landscape design we created was implemented except the one Karl Foerster grass. It was requested that we change one grass to a ‘Lemon Twist Hydrangea’. Stone Ridge queried nurseries from Chicago to Cleveland with no one being able to provide availability of this type of hydrangea. Even a Google search returned no results for this plant. Based on the lack of information available, the common name ‘Lemon Twist Hydrangea’ is not a real plant. Lemon Daddy & Twist-n-Shout are common hydrangeas, but these alternatives were declined during the project work. We refunded the cost for the Karl Foerster grass that was part of the original contract. We include excess materials in our quotes to ensure we have adequate resources to complete the project and do not increase costs to our clients. The additional sod rolls we had on hand was removed from the site when we completed the lawn installation. Similarly, if we had been short on sod, no additional costs would have been incurred for the additional sod required to complete the lawn as we stand by our contract pricing. The lighting fixtures we supplied and installed in the kitchen and landscape work flawlessly and you both stated you were “happy with them” and “like the look”. However, the lighting fixtures that were purchased & supplied [by the client] at the end of the project, were not compatible with the installation method desired. We offered an alternative solution for concealing the wiring which was declined. We did offer alternatives for the counter and accent banding but, I did not feel we will be able to meet the expectations in these areas. We removed & fully refunded the wood counter costs on the final invoice in 2015. I recommend that the granite installation we originally discussed, be revisited to provide the clean and smooth surface you desire rather than the rugged wood. Granite will require a larger investment, but provide the new look you now desire. We are confident in our experience and materials and provided these warranties for the project: Plantings provided and installed by Stone Ridge •1-Year Warranty Lighting Fixtures provided and installed by Stone Ridge •15 Year Fixture Warranty Pavilion- manufacturer & installer offer •40 Year Metal Roof Warranty • 7 Year Contractor Workmanship • 7 Year Wood Warranty • 3 Year Stain Warranty Josh Welker-President Stone Ridge Landscaping Inc. 574.534.9800
