They started the project, then disappeared, I was told that Sonny, the owner died; so I guess I'm out $60,000, they wouldn't honor work that was incomplete, and it was also poorly done, so because of them, I lost one of my best clients.

This company was paid for work that we initially believed would be completed by another company, Allied Asphalt, in Portage. When the "owner" of Allied Asphalt presented a contract for work, everything was in the name of this business, Rocky's Blacktop, and Max, the "owner" of Allied, claimed Rocky's was owned by his father. That raised a few red flags, but our contact, Max Stevens, seemed very helpful and so we opted to award them the contract and paid Rocky's Blacktop to complete the work. The new asphalt that was laid was mostly satisfactory. The rest of the work was where things went awry. When the sealing was sprayed over the parking lot and the existing driveway, we were told the striping would be only 45 minutes worth of work, no big deal, so we made the huge mistake of paying our balance in full. We were also told that when they came back to stripe, they would secure the two brand new parking blocks we purchased, and paint bollards in the parking lot. Now, two months after the work was paid-in-full, we have two loose parking blocks sitting crooked in our parking lot, nothing has been striped, and the bollards are still rusty and flaky. Initially Max was offering excuses about a broken striping machine, but when I called two weeks ago to follow up and see when they planned to finish work, I left a voicemail and received no return call. I am not sure if Allied Asphalt is operating as a "smoke and mirrors" company for Rocky's Blacktop, or if it is actually its own entity, but either way, I am not satisfied with unreturned calls and uncompleted work, especially since I already paid for it - and I wrote checks to Sonny Stevens of Rocky's Asphalt for the work. Aside from paying upfront for something that was never delivered at all (which I would NEVER do), I can't think of a less reliable company. We have had many so/so experiences with various contractors, but this one takes the cake for unprofessionalism, since it they literally pulled a "take-the-money-and-run" scenario.
Description of Work: Rocky's Blacktop was paid to demolish a portion of an existing driveway, and pave a newly routed driveway. Additionally, they were supposed to seal all existing asphalt, as well as seal and stripe a commercial parking lot, paint bollards in the parking lot, and install (and secure) two new parking blocks in the parking lot.

The job went horrible. They never removed the existing asphalt by my garage and just poured asphalt over the old asphalt. Additionally they never torched the grass and weeds on the driveway to get rid of them. There is also about five big bubbles coming up through the asphalt as result of not burning the weeds. I paid them in full with the understanding that they would stand behind their work and fix any problems. When I call them now they are telling me it is not their responsibility.
Description of Work: I hired them to remove existing asphalt by my garage, remove all grasses and burn with torch, level all low area and resurface with asphalt.
