72 Degrees Air Conditionnig & Heating

72 Degrees Heating & Air showed up promptly and on time after requesting a service call from them to repair our furnace. Upon arriving, the service technician (salesman) held up a little card with pricing on it and he informed me that the cost of repairs isn't based upon his time or materials, but a pre-set price for each particular service. He asked me to agree to that before proceeding, and even though it seemed like I was setting myself up to over pay for 10 minutes of work, I agreed and we went down to look at the furnace. After a few minutes, he told me he had bad news and the furnace needed replaced. He pulled out some brochures for a new furnace and I asked him what was wrong with the old one. He informed me that Lennox stopped supporting that model about six months ago and that parts were unavailable so he would be unable to repair it. I told him I found it very unlikely that if we Googled the parts, that we wouldn't be able to find them. I asked him specifically what was wrong with the furnace and he said he didn't know because he didn't actually look for a problem since it was no longer a "supported furnace." I asked to him to please identify the problem as it could be something as simple as a blown fuse. He refused to diagnose the problem since the furnace needed replaced. I explained to him that I had him out to repair my furnace and not for a sales call. He asked if I wanted to terminate the service call (even though it was a sales call) and I confirmed that I did, and he left. I called another heating company out of Hillsdale, MI and they came out that day. They diagnosed the problem as the threads being stripped on a plastic piece. He said he would have to order a new one. He came back out later that week with the part and replaced it in minutes. The total charge was under $150. Had I followed the advice of 72 Degrees Heating & Air, I would have spent $3,500 on a new furnace instead of having a simple repair. Its shameful that a company would tell people they need something that they do not. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY!
