But first, the name: Recommended Roofers is a division of Banks Construction LLC. Payment is made to Banks Construction but searching for it will not find it. Cameron Banks supervises the work. I should also mention that before selecting a roofer I closely inspected several other jobs in progress and rejected all those roofers due to poor workmanship. Apparently bad workmanship is wide spread. The initial agreement was for $3000 plus any materials but this was reduced due to work not done and work done improperly. Cameron was very dissatisfied with the time required to perform the work and complained about not making enough profit on the job. When I complained about the defects, he indicated that if I did not pay what he ask he would tear off the work although I provided almost all the materials. He might have thought of a bad reaction from the Police and agreed to a reduction in payment rather than making repairs and completing the job. While I observed the work in progress and caught some errors in time to repair, after the job was done, I found a lot of nails put in at a bad angle (found during my repairs and when figuring out why some shingles were not laying down properly), some driven so far down as to substantially cut into the shingle all the way around, a few nails not covered, a few shingles overlapping where they should be butted, and badly cracked ridge shingles. To understand the ridge shingle cracking, the roof slope is 12:12 so the angle between the sides at the ridge is 90 degrees. This makes it possible for the sheathing on both sides to fit together perfectly to make a sharp 90 degree change in slope or the sheathing can end a bit before the top to allow a more gentle bend. For my roof, the sheathing was installed with a large variation in stopping height with large areas being nearly gapless. When I showed Cameron the cracks almost all the way through the shingles and explained the cause as a too sharp bend and the solution as trimming the sheathing to allow a more gentle bend he said there was no problem even though I demonstrated it on the ground. I tore off the ridge shingles, trimmed the sheathing to eliminate the sharp bends, covered the ridge with flashing formed on the ground to form a rounded ridge (some of the sheathing ended too low, leaving a large gap) then put new ridge shingles over it with no problems. (fortunately I had the ladders I needed to reach the ridge.) The job was to include mounting solar collectors but the ridge needed to be repaired first, so this was not done by the roofers. Early in the shingling process I noticed that some nails were so high that they did not go through the previous course and some that were so low that they were visible after the next course was laid and that the horizontal position was not well controlled. After I pointed this out, they ripped out some shingles that were high nailed and tried to do better but it is hard to know how well they did because I could not watch everything. When planning the job, I was told that a waterproof eve and valley protector would be used around the chimney and skylights as recommended by the shingle manufacturer. It was used around the chimney but not the skylights. I think the purpose in this application is to seal nails to make the flashing more fault tolerant.
Description of Work: Tear off existing roof, sheath, install 2 skylights, shingle including flashing pads for solar panel mounting. Was to ibnclude mounting solar panels but did not.

It went fantastic! Cameron Banks was really a rock star! The crew was quick. everything they said they would do, they did. He was very responsive with me all the time. He did some of the work when i wasn't even there. I trusted him. He worked around some inconvenient situations. He was just an overall great guy and very honest.
