Locally Owned. We are a family owned local business that was started by Cedric DuHadway. Now Mike, Jim, and JoAnn, the third generation, own and operate DuHadway under the same original name. Some companies have changed names several times in just the last several years. We have continued the tradition of offering quality products at a fair price.
One of the best ways to maintain quality control is to use full time employees to install your windows, doors, and siding projects. We don’t use subcontractors. The problem with many subcontractors and other companies’ employees is how they are paid. They are usually paid by the job. If there is a problem and they take the time to work through it, their pay is cut. We don't pay our people on a piecework basis. We know it is a bad way to keep quality work. We know because we have been working with homeowners since 1946.
DuHadway estimate total was twice that of local provider, Masoner & Son who did the job as asked at the 1100 dollar price.
Description of Work: Job estimate to remove steel framed basement windows that leaked when it rained and replace / fill in area with concrete block was roughly twice that of other service provider.

Response from DuHadway Corp
DuHadway was asked to price out the remodeling of a basement 6 months ago. With remodeling there is a whole range of costs depending on what the customer wants to do and the products they want to use. We listen to the customer's ideas on what they would like to do during the remodeling and how they want to use the space. At that point we give the customer a price range that the project will cost. If the customer agrees to the price range, then we do the detailed work on all the products that the custmer choices and work involved with the installation. If the project is not in the range tha the customer wants to spend, then there is no need to do a complete write up on a project that is over what the customer wants to spend. If a customer wants to spend $2,000 on a project, but the cost for that work is $8,000 why would DuHadway spend the hours to write up a detailed contract when the cost is so far outside the range that the customer was willing to pay?

DuHadway is sorry if we did not communicate better that the crews would need to get material that would be required for that day's work. For example, after DuHadway had finished the concrete work on the basement waterproofing, we need to pick up the 2x4's need to frame in the basement walls. You would get this and other material as it would be required at that stage of the job. Sometimes when you are picking up material you get right through the checkout. Other times there may be other people ahead of you resulting in longer pickup times. Since this was a Wounded Warrior Program project, DuHadway moved this job ahead of others to help. In the process, we got free carpet donated to this project. DuHadway and Poorman Heating donated and installed at no cost a back flow valve to prevent water from backing up into their basement. DuHadway will certain try to communicate our scheduling and timing better with other customers in the future

SWe asked them to come to our house for an estimate on replacing a few casement windows that were about 15 years old, and that showed alot of woodrot. Two of the representatives, Jim and Lewis, showed up and we discussed the window problems. They examined them, and adivised that we replace the entire window in case there was further woodrot in the framing. So we agreed with them and scheduled the service. They were prompt and courteous and they installed 3 casement windows.
Description of Work: Installed 3 casement windows and trim.
Finding this contractor is the very reason we signed up for Angies list! They delivered everything they said they would in a very professional manner. They even called if they were going to be late for any reason. The repair was turn key from start to finish. The floors were left clean, no dust, no scraps left behind and they have very courteous employees. A big pat on the back to Gary, Perry and Steve. They will be the first company we call if we need anything else done!

We contacted DuHadway to give us an estimate for the replacement of 6 windows (with the potential of adding 6 more if the price was right) and rebuilding our front porch. They sent a gentleman out to give us the estimate during the first week of September. He took measurements and discussed with my husband several different options that they could do to replace the decking, hand rails, and support columns, on our porch. My husband and I really liked one of the suggestions, so they sent out another gentleman to look and see if the foundation was secure enough to pour a concrete base for our porch. We were told that we would have an estimate back to us within a few days. After waiting several weeks, my husband called on Friday September 27th to find out what is going on. He was told that the person that was working the information was out of the office and we would have a phone call by the following Monday September 30th with an estimate. We have yet to hear a word from them. It's a real shame too. I am ready to write a check to whatever company gets us an estimate. It's a guaranteed job! We are wanting to get the windows replaced before it gets too cold outside, and be able to do them this year to get a tax credit. Pretty much I just need to know how much to write a check for. My feeling is if this company doesn't want to put the work in to give an estimate, how should I believe that they will actually show up to do the work. We are ready and willing to put a substantial amount of money into this project, but I guess this company isn't willing to do the work and cash a check.

On Oct. 14, the Lewis' not only ordered all the windows for their home from DuHadway, but also contracted for additonal work that needed done on their home. This amounted to an order of nearly $20,000. DuHadway looks forward to finishing this project and doing other work for the Lewis' in the future.
Following the large amount of rain we received this past Spring, my husband and I made the gruesome discovery that the previous owner of our home tried to patch some large cracks in the wall and hide his handiwork by covering 3/4 of the basement walls. After talking with a few different contractors, we chose DuHadway to make the repairs. Much to our delight, the project started rather quickly and completed well within the timeframe quoted. * Bucket after bucket of concrete chunks hauled to the dumpster. * New tile and stone laid, and concrete poured. * Installation of two sump pump systems, with drywell buried out to our pond. * Waterproofing and recovering of the walls. * Reconfiguration of the basement layout, including demolition of some interior walls, and construction of others. * Updated wiring, light fixtures, outlets and switches. * Spanish lace finish to the walls and ceiling. * Fresh, new paint and trim. Workers were all very polite and respectful of our space/property. The project was planned in such a way that we were never without water or the use of our washer and dryer. The only inconvenience was being without the water softener for a week or so. Although DuHadway was not the lowest bidder (and yet not the highest either), we believe the turnkey work performed was well worth the investment in our home.

DuHadway had replaced all of our front windows a couple years ago. They were excellent windows, installed well and priced fairly. Then last year we had to replace windows in the back and two doors in the back. The doors were steel doors and the windows matched the ones in the front. The product is quality and the installation is excellent. Everyone that we worked with was great... caring and patient as we made our choices. We will defitely work with them again if we need anything done!!

It was a huge job. Overall it was impressive, considering that multiple workers were involved. The one down side was that the furnace when disturbed (moved out of the basement) temporarily in order to complete the work, did not work when it was replaced again. Even though dedicated heating and air techs removed and replaced it, it was not able to be used again. That was an unexpected expense.
Description of Work: Removed unmortared brick from basement floor, removed old hot water heater, sink, floor drain (and capped), removed furnace for re installation at completion, installed tile system on outside walls, dividing two rooms on both sides and connected to two new sump pumps. This project involved removing approximately seven inches of dirt floor from entire basement, installing the four inch plastic tile, PVC wall panels to top of wall, four inches of gravel, followed by a liner and cement. In addition, a custom security door and a Bilco door was ordered and installed.

glass block, replacement windows

Two men came out and looked at my windows and gave me some options and their opinions. I didn't mention I wanted glass block because I just knew it would be much more expensive, but to my surprise they gave me glass block with venting windows for the same prices as the casement ones. I was very happy with the price I had several companies came out and DuHadway was much cheeper than most. As a women, I also like how they spoke to me not at me like some men did that came to give me qutoes. One thing that was really great was how the two men that installed the windows were very proud of the work they did. When I came home from work (someone else was home with work was done) they explained what they did and how to clean them. And the most impressive thing they did was decided to redo an entire window the next day (a Saturday) because he just wasn't happy with it and he felt he just couldn't leave us with a window like that. He was sorry about the delay but just wanted us to be happy with the end product, and I appriciate that. The employees that work for them as installers actually work for the company and get paid hourly (which I was informed by the company) so they aren't rushing to just get the job done. One thing I wasn't happy with was how I was talked down to when I asked a question over the phone about if some wood that was exposed needed to be painted right away because it was going to rain. I just got a snoty answer from a man, but I guess it was just a dumb questions...other than that they were always nice and polite.

They were very responsive to my initial phone call and came out to the house for an estimate as scheduled. One guy arrived on time, the other was late and we had to wait around on him. While they were here I was very impressed with their professionalism, knowledge, and expertise. I was enthusiastic about hopefully working with them on both a laundry room remodel and patio installation, pending how their estimate came back. A couple weeks went by with no communication after their initial visit to the house, so I called to check on the status and spoke to a receptionist who said she'd pass the message along. Never got a call back. No emails, no calls, nothing.

They got the job done quickly. They stayed within the quoted price. I was not as happy with the services as I wanted to be. The windows they put in are not even. Response from DuHadway Corp
Water coming into a basement is caused by the water table being higher than the floor of the basement. If you lower the water table, the problem of water coming in the basement goes away because you have reduced or eliminated the water pressure against the basement walls and floor. By adding tile around the perimeter of the basement you now have the ability to collect the water then empty the water into a sump pump pit so you can pump the water up and away from the home. If the water is not present, then neither is the problem. The problem is the water. Unless you remove the water anything else you do is a bandaide approach. It does not solve the problem. Our area of northeastern Indiana has had so much moisture (rain and snow) over the past several years that the ground is saturated with water. Yes, we have have dry spells like the summer of 2011. But you have to also remember that just before that dry period the area was 7 inches above normal for rainfall. The clay we have in the soil compounds the problem by slowing the rate at which water can drain away. Many, many home houseowners who have never had problems with water in their basement, even having lived there 30+ years, are having water problems the last several years. We have heard that said time and time again. Is the best approach on the inside or the outside to collecting the ground water on existing homes? Most times this tiling can be done on the inside by putting the tiling below the basement floor. This method eliminates the costly process of relandscaping the exterior if the tile is put around the outside of the basement walls. This tiling process is exactly what is done when a new home is built with a basement. A tile system collects the water and empties the water into a pit. The water is pumped out and away from the home. At DuHadway we are installing that same process on existing homes. Without draining water from the soil around the basement, homeowners with wet basements will be constantly be fighting the battle to keep their basement dry.

They think outside the box to solve issues. They are a professional company who are responsive to our needs.
Description of Work: I got a quote from them for kitchen remodeling.
The basement estimate was in late February and the work was done the first week of March and took 4 days. They found a broken field tile and connected it to a tile which they placed under the new concrete they laid to the sump pump. They replaced a door because they had to break out a lot of old concrete. They installed a new sump pump too. This was $4200. The 2nd job was estimated when they finished the first job and consisted of a door and two window replacements on the porch in addition to putting up some new insulation and interior wall material. This was $1500 and took two days. Both jobs were done by people who were experts (concrete person, sump pump person, door and window person, with helpers. Everyone was hard-working, courteous and friendly. It was a pleasant experience.
Description of Work: They did such a good job on the basement waterproofing and new sump pump and new concrete and new door that we hired them for a 2nd job, to replace a door and two windows on our porch. Excellent, detailed work after a reasonable estimate process. Would highly recommend and use again.

I was impressed with the professionalism and honesty of the salesman, Jim. He provided to me all of the necessary documentation and information regarding the windows and easily answered any questions I had regarding the windows, their warranty and their qualification for the home improvement tax rebate. He instilled confidence in me that DuHadway could install the windows they way I wanted them to be. That being said, the original installer of my windows did not share his professional attitude and enthusiasm to meet and/or exceed the customer's expectations. The exterior weather flashing that was requested was poorly caulked around the siding and windows, which would have allowed water to contact the siding backer-board if not corrected. Two windows were not centered in the original window opening, requiring them to remove and recenter the windows. The interior molding was not wide enough to cover the areas around the windows where the original molding had covered the walls. After bringing this to Jim's attention, he agreed that this should not have been done with such narrow molding and that wider molding should have been used and that the installer should have brought this to his supervisor's attention to be addressed with me. Even after the narrow molding was replaced with wider molding, at least 2 additional visits had to be made to repair poorly fitting mitre corners, uncaulked molding and replace molding that was cut to fit around a bathrobe rack (instead of removing the rack from the wall to make room for the molding). As a side note, the original installer no longer works at DuHadway. Apparently, my job was not the only sub-par work he had provided. Even with the frustration of multiple return visits and requesting Jim to do a final review to make sure everything was completed to my satisfaction, I was pleased that there was never a point where Jim said, and quot;DuHadway cannot do thatand quot; or and quot; That will cost extra to fix that.and quot; They understood that certain aspects of the work did not meet my expectations and were happy to provide the extra effort to make it right and to have their top workers complete the repairs. I terms of the product installed, I am very happy with the Northstar windows. Exterior sounds are deadened and there is a noticeable improvement in the surface temperature of the windows on very cold and very hot days; the insulation properties of the new windows are far better than of those they replaced.
Description of Work: I had DuHadway fully replace 11 windows, which included the interior molding and external flashing between the window and siding,

I used them in the spring for an extendable awning. They are good at problem solving. My walls aren't square and I needed new counter tops, they said we could shave off part of the counter top which was done with the last one or cut a hole in the wall to make it fit. He said we could also build up the wall. I like that they recognize the problem and brainstorm to find the best way to fix it and give me options. They let me know which options would be better, take more time, etc. I liked that.
Description of Work: DuHadway Corp gave me an estimate for new countertops and I will be using them for the job.
Had them waterproof a very problematic wet basement. Ran into multiple problems along the way - cracked pipes, etc, but they always addressed the issues professionally and usually split the cost if it was something where they might've contributed to the problem. Were always there on time and they even went back in re-did things I wasn't happy with at no charge (I had them re-do the glass block windows because I wasn't happy with the end result). Would've been a couple grand cheaper, but I had them stamp the bricks on the floor so it would be a basement floor with a cool pattern. Looks very good and no problems since.
