We have been customers of Culligan of Fort Wayne for more than 16 years. That includes the purchase of two high-efficient water softeners and home delivery of salt. Our current $2,000 “Gold Series” softener recently stopped working. A service representative determined that both the display and some internal valves were not working properly. The display circuit board was still under warranty but the valves were not. In addition to the $99 “trip charge”, the service rep estimated $137 to replace the valves and another ~$100 for labor to change the circuit board. I balked at this labor charge since it was obvious to me, and confirmed by the service rep, that it would take less than ten minutes to replace the circuit board. I told him that I would pick up the circuit board at Culligan’s place of business and install it myself before he completed the out-of-warranty work. Everything went as planned and I paid the representative the balance for the service call on January 30. A week later I received a bill in the mail for an additional $35 that included a $2 charge for a “Statement Processing Fee”! This will be the last purchase that we ever make from Culligan Water Conditioning of Fort Wayne. There prices have become exorbitant and unprofessional.

Culligan water at one time was loyal to there customers and there employees. Now with the new owner Steve Gipson it's starting become one of the worse cons in the water industry. There salesman are telling customers that there reverse osmosis will prevent or cure cancers. They are also trying to scare people into buying there system by telling them that they have nitrates or other thing in there water when they don't. They charge outstanding fees for salt and water. They try to teach there service techs to get the most money they can out of the customer for every service call they go on. They tell there salesman to always test the kitchen cold water because most of the time the kitchen is on hard water for drinking and cooking so then they can say that there water softener doesn't work. They always will sell you the most expensive units that they have and 85% of the time you don't even need it. They never tell you about the cheaper units that they have and would be the right size for your house hold. This is bad business and for some one like me that loves the water industry I could no longer work for a company like this so I branched out on my own for now. I will probably start my own water softener company in about one year from now because I signed a no compete form with Culligan and they are really mad that I left them. And they have even threatened me that they would sue me lol How pathetic is that. There are still many good water softener company's out there that are good and loyal to there customers if you need one ask me I will refer you to a good one. The owner had several people hurt them selfs on the job the owner never called one person asked how they where doing. Also another employee that died the owner Steve Gibson didn't even go to his own employees funeral. Now I could understand that if it was a huge business. But it is not it is a small business. The day that people at Culligan found out that he died the service department was devastated. The owner and his salesman Kurt sells was only worried about one thing and one thing only and that was getting unit in that morning. That's when I really found out what kind of owner he was. Now that I posted I am sure Steve and his salesman will lie about me probably say I am a disgruntled employee but that's who these people are and that's what they do. They lie and there the best at it. Thanks for reading and you are welcome to share this .

We've always had great experience with Culligan in the past. We've had our unit for many years. I called inquiring about their special on a complete unit check and explained that ours was not working properly. It was eating up alot of salt and had water constantly running down the drain. I called the Huntington number with the Huntington address thinking I was calling Huntington, which was later told was in Fort Wayne. The lady who answered the phone didn't have answers to most of my questions. I found her very un-helpful. I was thrilled tho that I got a same day service. The lady answering the phone said it would need some salt in it in order to check it. I went at lunch and got salt. Rushed home to meet, what I thought was going to be a serviceman. Got home, no Culligan truck at my house, just a small car, no Serviceman but a Salesman. I walked in and he there with my husband and was testing my water. He proceeded to go into his and quot;sales pitchand quot; mode. Telling me about new ones and pricing etc. Needless to say....he left and I still have a broken water softener that was running water down the drain. I later found that I could turn off the bypass to get it to stop. He didn't even help in telling us that. It was obvious that he was there to sell us a new softener. This experience left me feeling deceived. I feel a Serviceman would have been able to make the same recommendation and it would have been better received. This whole experience has soured me on Culligan. I went to Lowes and bought one for a fraction of the price. I can buy several with an exnted warranty for the cost of one of their's. I will take my chances before I will buy another Culligan water softener. I found it to not be the same Culligan that it was years ago on many levels. I later got a call from a Sericeman and he would come out for $79. I am not sure what they are referring to when this says free estimates here.
Description of Work: I called needing a service and got home to find a salesman there vs a sericeman. He tested my water telling me we had hard water (which was the reason I needed a service, the unit was not working).

We have NEVER added salt to our softener in over a year, because it has never worked properly for long enough to require salt. The service men came out 4 to 5 times after we would complain that the softener wasn't working, perform some sort of repair, then we would not hear from them until we called to complain again. They have replaced the entire system twice, but at this point, our service agreement has expired. My biggest complaint is that no one ever followed up, and no one seemed expert enough to really know what was wrong. At this time we are exploring our options to pursue legal avenues to recoup our money for the softener.
Description of Work: He was out to try to fix an ongoing problem with our water softener.

They were punctual and arrived when they said they would. We had an emergency situation and they responded within twenty minutes. We had a problem with installation, which was not their fault, but they were there in twenty minutes and cleaned it up.
