Total square footage of job was 3,465 square feet. He and his wife came to give estimate. They were very friendly and seemed very knowledgeable. They did all measurements and mailed a quote a few days later. They did job in a couple of days with many workmen here. It looked beautiful and at first, we were very happy. That is, until the sprinklers came on. They had ruined many sprinkler heads and pipes. The repairs to the sprinklers came to over $2,000. My husband explained the problem to the owner, Mr. Van Croshier. He told my husband that, instead of him paying the bill, that he would take it off of a sealant which we would need in 2 years. We have tried to call him and have spoken to him several times. He always comes up with excuses of when he will be coming to seal the driveway in 2-3 months and ends up never calling or coming. He gets an F! He does not keep his word and basically stole the money from us! Very Unhappy, Susan DiMarchi

He and his wife came and were very friendly and seemed very knowledgeable. They took all of the measurements. They sent us a quote a couple of days later. Then we set a schedule. Many men came out and did the whole job as explained. We gave them a deposit of $16,500. They did the job and at first it looked beautiful. But then a day or two later the sprinkler system came on and it was broken everywhere. Sprinkler heads and lines were all broken. We called our sprinkler system and they came to dig up all of the broken lines. Van Croshier said that the damage was not a result of them. The sprinkler system company said all of the damage was from the driveway repairs. Instead of paying for the repairs they would just take the cost off of the sealer that the driveway would need in a year or two. We paid the damages to the sprinkler system company. Two years passed, every time we called Van Croshier he is full of excuses as to why he can't come. We finally got an appointment scheduled but then he had an excuse as to why he couldn't come. He did not keep his word.

See above!! Went above and beyond to deliver a great product!
Description of Work: Replaced a large concrete driveway, assessed potential foundation/retaining wall issues, repaired any resulting damage, and met the quote!! The struggled through the rain, but we always felt the priority of our job being done. They didn't take shortcuts, i.e. pouring concrete in the rain, or with rain nearby!! We are thrilled with the outcome and would recommend them to friends and famil!

Are you sure you have the right contractor? I listen to my messages each day, and I don't have a single message from you. I probably can't change your mind at this point, but if you will call us, I would be happy to talk to you about your job.

Your last sentence says we seemed knowledgeable, but bids were high. We are usually not the highest bid, nor the lowest bid. We've found that we are very competitive, price-wise. Van has been doing this work for 40+ years and I would say he is an expert, and if you chose Van Croshier Concrete, you would definitely get what you are paying for! Sincerely, Vicki Croshier

Overall; great. We really enjoyed working with Van and Vicki. She was particularly helpful on the pattern and color selection and 3 years later, we have really been enjoying patio and the pattern. No spalling, settling, cracking at all. Built the 16x16 screened porch on the patio without issue. What went right: Good, quick, quality work, exactly as planned. Good price/value. Great folks. Areas for improvement: We got a bit of end of season scheduling and weather - not a big deal. Recommend marking sprinklers and crew using plywood for the powered wheel barrow as moving across the wet, soft front lawn to the back became a problem, however Van sorted it out quickly (with a smile). Bottom line: Recommended, would use again.
Description of Work: Removed small patio (Pulte 12x15) and replaced with 16'x40'6" concrete patio with a portion (~7x13) of colored and stamped (gull gray U18 and the release of smoke R23 on an Ashlar Slate pattern). Three 6x6 tall wooden posts footed for future patio cover. Sealed.

The Van Croshier's initially spent a great deal of time investigating the job site and taking measurements. A few days later they provided a very detailed proposal that clearly defined the project details and costs for each portion of the work. They agreed to coordinate the start and finish of the project with our vacation plans so that we wouldn't have to leave our vehicles parked on the street during the concrete curing period. Van Croshier's proposal was cost-competitive with a couple of other estimates. It was far superior in terms of stating precisely what was going to be done. The job generally progressed as originally planned. There were some weather issues and an unforeseen equipment breakdown; however, the crew was still able to complete all critical portions of the job by the time we left for vacation. The crew of five young men worked hard at all times and were obviously very skilled in all aspects of concrete work. The patio repair exceeded our expectations. The new exposed pea gravel very closely matches the portions of the patio that were not replaced. The crew also replaced a broken section of drainage pipe that was discovered when removing the old patio sections. The project was competed as proposed at the originally quoted price. There were no "add-ons", extra charges or surprises when the final invoice was submitted.
Description of Work: 1. Replaced 30-year old concrete driveway with new concrete driveway. Dug out and removed all existing concrete and debris then filled and compacted base before pouring new 5-inch thick concrete. Driveway is about 18 feet wide. Total area is about 2,000 square feet. Also removed old front porch brick steps and replaced with new poured concrete steps. 2. Replaced approximately 50% of patio at rear of house. Several sections of existing 15-year old exposed pea gravel patio were severely cracked. These were sawed out and removed. New concrete was then poured in these sections and finished to match the existing exposed pea gravel.

Met with Van Croshier and wife to discuss installing a concrete driveway, and also asked for estimates for replacing the front porch and back porch and installing a sidewalk connecting the back porch to the driveway. What had impressed me right away with Van was that he recognized a lot of problems with the driveway and culvert and made suggestions such as widening the driveway and replacing the culvert pipe with a much larger one. I liked that he was able to problem solve these issues and come up with solutions for them within a few minutes of surveying the area. Van's wife was able to draw a picture of how the area would look after the changes. I was very impressed with how she was able to sketch the ideas. It helped to have a visual idea of how it was going to look in the end. My husband and I wanted the company we chose to start work right away due to the state of our driveway, a crumbling asphalt mess and Van Croshier was able to give us an early start date. We had by that time received estimates from 2 other companies but I wanted Van Croshier to do the job and was excited to learn that his bid was lower than the others (we got a 5% Angies customer discount) . We were impressed by Van, Jr. and his crew with his attention to detail. I had no idea how much work and thought was involved in installing concrete. He was there to answer questions and explain what to expect when the concrete cured and how to take care of the concrete (not to put salt on it in the winter and how to remove stains from leaves falling). The driveway was widened and the parking bay was also widened, allowing 2 vehicles to park easily there. Not only did they do what the contracted to do but he also regraded the ground so that the water flowed away from the house and put extenders on the gutters (pop-outs) to help the rain water drain away from the house. (This actually solved the water intrusion that I had been experiencing since I owned the house and am thrilled to see a dry basement after a heavy rainstorm--what a plus!) He also suggested and helped cement a post for our mailbox. So much thought and attention that I wasn't expecting when I hired this company! My husband and I were thrilled with the results.
Description of Work: Provided estimate for tearing out asphalt driveway, replacing it with concrete driveway, replacing culvert, ripping out front porch (sunken area), and back porch, removing stepping stones on side of the house, replacing it with sidewalk. Chose this company to do the work. In addition, widened the driveway, and the parking bay, installed a larger culvert pipe, regraded the ground so that water flowed away from the house, and cemented in post for our mailbox.

The entire process took 3 days, one for removal of existing structures, one for pouring the new concrete, and one for placing cuts in driveway to inhibit cracking and for cleanup of landscape surrounding work area. From the initial bid to the last day of installation, Van's team provided superb service. They answered all my questions throughout the process and kept me informed as the project moved toward completion. At the end of work we did a walkthrough and they offered guidance on how to maintain the concrete and instructed me to call with any concerns. All in all, the main reason I chose Van to perform this work was the sense of comfort he and his wife imparted through the opening dialogue, and, thankfully, after going through this process with them that sentiment still remains.

I got 3 bids for the work. Van Croshier was the most reasonable and was extremely specific in writing up the bid (square footage, depth, etc). I was amazed that one contractor wanted to charge me $1500 for the culvert piping when, in fact, Van Croshier charged $175!!! Van, Sr. and his wife, Vicki came to do the bid. Van suggested I do the sidewalk a bit differently. Rather than run parallel to the house, he suggested I do an S-shape that meandered from the porch to the driveway. That one difference completely changed the curb appeal of the house - it looks terrific!! Van, Jr. and his crew arrived on time, were organized and coordinated. They were so professional in their work: rounding the sides of the concrete, creating a border along the top edge, broom-finishing the concrete. They went about their work with no loafing or goofing off. Van, Jr. walked me through the whole process, educated me on concrete in general, told me the do's and don'ts and answered any and all questions I had. From start to finish, the process took 3 days. The result is spectacular!!!!!!!! I am sooooo happy with the work and with the crew!! I highly recommend Van Croshier Concrete!!!!

I should have written this review months ago - so the exact date and price are fuzzy, but the view out my window is fantastic. They came when they said they would, Vicki returned all my calls and emails promptly, and I think it was Hank? who worked with me to make the sidewalk going up to the front door something that neighbors stopped to comment on. It looks like a different house thanks to the new cement - and to the new design! I would love to attach photos to this, but see no place to link them on this page??
Description of Work: Removed my garage floor, driveway, front walk up the the front door, front stoop as well as broken pieces of sidewalk. Replaced it all. Expanded the front stoop, added a beautiful double curve up the the front walk, regraded the driveway so that we didn't have a two inch lip entering the garage (and making the driveway where the basketball hoop was more level) and just did a great job.

They showed up early and worked quickly - i was very impressed. they even replaced the stoop at our front door for n/c when whey discovered it was pulling away from the house. Since then, there are numerous places where the concrete is flaking away and disintegrating. when they instaled the driveyway, they told us to seal the driveway in 2015, so perhaps that was bad advice?

The end of my double-wide driveway was in bad shape, and I had wanted to get it done for a couple years, but I had been playing phone tag with other contractors, plus had one make me promises he couldn't keep. So I gave up and started over. Van Croshier had good reviews, so I contacted them in June. They gave me an estimate based on my photos and measurements via email. Estimate was right in line with estimate I had received from another contractor a year earlier. Because of the busy season, they estimated they could do the job in September, which was OK with me. After a few emails when the time was near, I noticed the utilities had been marked in my yard. They called on a Monday and asked if it was okay to come the following day. Although we had guests from out of town and it would be a little bit of a hassle to have everyone park on the street, I said OK to avoid any further delays. In the end it was a minor inconvenience. I left my nephew to be the "project manager," since I had to be at work. The crew arrived promptly at 8:30 and started the job. My nephew reported that they did good work, and the whole job was done before by that afternoon. They compacted the subgrade stone, added foam expansion joints, and poured a 6" pad of 4000 psi stone, 6% air entrained, with Nytec fiber reinforcing, then added an acrylic sealer. It looks great. And I saved about $100 with the Angie's List discount!

Average to below average quality job. Some cracking and spalling in first year. Concrete may not have been mixed well as some of the fibrous additive has left surface pits. Front porch step has cracked away from the porch. Exposed aggregate on porch and walk has come loose and initial repair does not match. No expansion material on curb-cut now breaking loose. No response from company after two phone calls.

They were very personable. When they began the job, they had five or six guys working on it getting ready for the concrete. It is not rocket science but they jumped on it and did it. There were issues because of the weather but otherwise, they did a great job. Their price was very competitive; probably the cheapest I found. They showed up on time. I do recommend them to other folks.

We were impressed with the details of the estimate. The estimate actually was less than the other 2 for more square footage and better depth (4 inches vs 3.5 inches). When we requested a quicker project date than Van originally suggested, he was able to work us in quickly due to cancellation of another scheduled job. The work was done quickly and professionally. The crew were all professional, helpful and even suggested some changes to the plan which worked well. We will definitely use them again for any future concrete projects.

I gave this company all "A"s at the time of service in 2011. Now it is 2014 and I have one panel that is sinking. Water backs into my garage during heavy rains. Another panel has a flaking area. I have contacted the company (once by messaging on Angie's List on 4/2/14) and twice by phone (week of April 7th, Monday April 21st) in April of 2014. I just want them to come out and look at the areas and suggest how we can repair them. Despite leaving 2 voice mail messages they have not returned my call. Yes I realize my driveway may be out of warranty. I'm not asking Van Croshier to fix it for free. But I would like them to help me evaluate the problems and help me understand how to fix them. Will the concrete continue to sink? Is the flaking concrete going to get worse?

We are so dissatisfied w/ our driveway. In the Summer of 2013, there was a record set for rain. Mr. Croshier had his crew come and pour the first section of our drive way. They covered it for protection, however, it did not set correctly. They removed it and poured the section again, realizing it was defective. Fast forward, the rest of our driveway was finished over the course of 40 days. It became apparent to us that Mr. Croshier was busy with other jobs. We have been very kind and patient in asking him for a solution regarding our discolored driveway. We never received a response - he canceled 2 apps in Sept/Oct to come and take a look. We now have pits in our "new driveway " I hope Angie's List will help in getting this resolved. Regards, Alex & Anita Keddie

Response from Van Croshier Concrete
The member’s description of the progress of the job has some errors. The driveway was poured in 3 sections. The first section was poured. Member claims this section did not set correctly, and she said we removed and replaced it because we realized it was defective. The concrete was not defective at all, otherwise our supplier would have paid us to remove and replace it! There was a hailstorm that day which ruined the concrete. We removed and replaced it at our cost. The second section was fine and had no problem. The third and last section was poured the next day. We got caught in the rain, which ruined this part of the driveway. We removed this section from the jobsite at our expense and replaced it. There was not an exact match in color between the two sections. The color variation was very slight, which is accepted in our industry. Still, we wanted to make the customer happy. Van suggested applying a tinted sealer to the entire driveway at our cost. We gave the customer an address where we applied this sealer, and she could see what this would look like. She did not like the sealer and didn’t want us to move forward with our solution. This entire job took 5 days, not 40 days! This is proven by dated receipts from our concrete supplier. She states they have been “kind and patient” in asking for a solution. Actually, the last time she called Van, she was very angry and told him never to step foot on her property and to expect a call from her attorney. As for the pitting in the driveway, the customers were told not to throw salt on the driveway in the winter, and that’s what caused the pitting.

This was done last year. I'm just now getting around to writing review. I called and requested an estimate from Van Croshier, A couple days later they came out and measured. He had some good ideas on bump out for grill and rounded on the edges of the patio for a different look. Crew worked very h****** a very hot day. All were very pleasant and knowledgeable. Patio and sidewalk came out very nice. Would definitely use again.
