It went well. They did tell me from the first conversation that they were booked several weeks out. Luckily, we were not in a huge hurry as long as the work was completed before winter season. I like dealing with the owners of the company, Van and Vicki, and Van seemed very knowledgeable about the work and regarding Carmel's permitting requirements/codes. They provided me with a measured hand drawing so I could submit for approval through our home owners association. They weren't always good about phone contact but seemed very responsive via email. Following work completion, Van came out personally and looked at the work to insure we were happy. We probably could have gotten the work done a little cheaper, but I was pleased with the quality and service Van and Vicki provided. They also gave me a copy of the Carmel permit to confirm that the project was approved.
Description of Work: They expanded our concrete driveway on one side to accomodate parking of a third vehicle.

They were prompt, efficent and professional from from initial visit and quote to completion. Job was large for a residential project. They removed old, cracked concrete from a long drive and turn around area, patio and exposed aggregate walk and porch steps. They showed up on time and did and did a high quality job. Every body on their crew seemed experienced and knew what they were about. They were able to schedule the work so that disruption to our routine was minimized.

My experience with Van Croshier concrete started out very positively. Vicky and Van were quick to respond to my call for a quote for the above concrete work and provided a reasonable quote in a timely manner. I received a quote from the company outlining in detail the work that was to be performed. When reviewing the contract, however, it did not mention removal of 2 existing piles of debris and grading and seeding of the areas where concrete would be removed but not replaced. I spoke with Vicky via telephone to inquire if the quote included those items and she assured me that it did. I added the following verbage to to the contract, signed, and returned it to Croshier: "Price for work in back includes removal of debris at bottom (waters edge) of sidewalk and on current pation as well as grading and seeding of all areas where concrete is removed." The work was completed in a timely manner. While I was not at home during the majority of the work, the limited interaction that I had with those working on the project was very positive. Everyone was polite and happy to answer questions. The actual concrete work that was performed turned out very nicely and was what we had anticipated. On the last day at the job site, Vicky and Van came out to look at the work that had been performed. Van asked if I would be willing to pay him at that time versus paying later upon invoice. I informed him that I would be happy to do so and asked him the total payment due. Van did not have the total with him and I did not have my contract handy. Van offered that if I would pay $4300 we would call it even (The actual contract amount was $4373.70). I paid him via check. The next day I realized that one of the debris piles had not been removed as was agreed in the contract. This pile is located down a slope in the yard and is not visible unless one walks down to the waters' edge of the yard. I contacted Croshier to make him aware of the situation. Croshier explained that a gas powered wheelbarrow would have to be rented to remove the debris and asked if I would be willing to wait until they had another job in the area that would require the use of this equipment in order to make better use of financial resources. I agreed to this arrangement and waited to hear from the company for removal of the debris. In early June Croshier contacted me to let me know that they had a job in the area in which they would be using the wheelbarrow and asked if they could remove the debris pile during the first week of July. I planned to be out of town but told them that it would be fine for them to complete the work at that time. I requested, however, that they perform the work when the ground was dry to prevent as much possible damage to the yard (we had just spent a lot of money and effort in the past month to get the new grass to grow where the concrete had been removed). Croshier agreed and we waited for the work to be performed. The first 2 weeks of July passed and Croshier did not come to do the work or contact us. My husband left a voicemail during that timeframe to inquire about the lack of response, but Croshier never returned the phone call. I called again in August, left a voicemail, and again, did not receive a return call. I decided to attempt one more time in September and left another voicemail with Croshier requesting the work be completed per our contract. Croshier finally returned my call in late Septmember (now over 4 months since payment was made) and told me that they did not come back to complete the project because they believed that I did not want them to due to the wet conditions. I have clear email correspondence that states that I wanted the work to be performed, I simply wanted them to avoid performing it when the ground was wet and the risk of damage to the yard was greater. Additionally, Croshier also stated that they thought it was too wet to perform the work. While I was not in town during that time, my husband was and reports that there was no substantial rainfall during that time which can be confirmed by any reputable weather reporting agency which has detailed rain reports for that time frame. This was, in fact, one of the driest summers in Indiana history! During that phone conversation, Croshier attempted to shift the blame to me for not noticing and alerting his crew to the oversight prior to them leaving the job site when the original work was performed. During that phone conversation I informed Croshier that we he could attempt to shift the blame and make excuses, but at the end of the day we had a signed contract which he could choose to honor or not. Croshier assured me that he would complete the work and that I would hear from him within the next couple of weeks to schedule. As expected, I have received no further contact from the company.

I called to schedule an appointment for someone to come to my home to give me an estimate to replace my concrete driveway and we scheduled it for the later in the week. The woman I spoke with was very pleasant and professional. I received a call the afternoon of the appointment and was left a message that the owner was stuck at another job and was not going to be able to make out it to my house that day, but to give them a call back to reschedule. I called about two hours later and left a message asking them to call me to reschedule the appointment and I have never heard back from them.

They did a professional job. They gave me a decent price. However, they delayed the instillation of the concrete several times.?Two of the times was because of the hot weather and then they delayed one other time because they had broken equipment. All delays were understandable.?Overall, they?did a good job.

Contacted three companies for bids. Selected Van Crosier because their estimate was complete and informative. Van Crosier was not the lowest estimate, but all the bids were within a reasonable range. The heavy rain fall in May delayed the start of the work, but once started, it proceed well. It took five days to complete the work and we didn't drive on it for another several days. It was worth the time and cost. We have received positive comments from our neighbors including some on how well the work was done. The end result is very good and we are pleased our new concrete and the work that was done. We received the Angies List discount.

Van Croshier was selected from among 3-4 estimates. Vickie answered phone on May 2nd and was familiar with our Carmel neighborhood even though the business is in Fishers. Van Sr. and Vickie arrived on time for the estimate four days later as scheduled. They were both very friendly, easy going, and explained how job would be done. The written estimate was e-mailed two days later. Estimate was very detailed, much more so than other contractors. Job start date set for June 27. We were informed a day or two ahead the start date would be delayed by one day due to rain. Actual job took 3 1/2 days, start to finish. Van Jr. was the crew boss for up to 9 workers, all hard working skilled guys. Several that have been with Van Croshier for 4 to 8 years. A concrete truck cracked the existing apron to the street that was not part of the project. Van pointed it out to me and the section was replaced at no cost the next day. Van Croshier Concrete was responsive to job changes, and quick to respond to any concerns I had. They made spending money a pleasure.
Description of Work: 34 year old asphalt driveway was torn out and replaced with additional rock for a 6" base and 4" concrete. A one foot Bi-toned sandstone colored concrete bricks were set on all sides of drive for a decorative touch. Downspout rerouted under sidewalk to popup valve in yard to reduce runoff on drive. Also the straight sidewalk from drive to the front door was replaced with a curved one.

I called Van Croshier for an estimate and the best time for me was a Friday evening around 6:30. They had no problem meeting me then. I met with the owner and his wife who were very nice. He explained exactly what they would do and what type of materials they were going to use. Sounded like they take the extra little step to do things correctly. He was very informative and we talked for good while. I would have definitely gone with them but they were 6 weeks out and I needed to have a botched job fixed sooner. I will definitely keep them in mind for next time I need concrete work.

Van and Vicki both came to look over the potential project. They talked with me about what I wanted done and then wrote up a very detailed proposal and e-mailed it to me the next day. After checking around to get comparisons, I signed the proposal/contract and we set a date to begin. Their crew arrived 4 days after the proposed date, only because of rain, and worked diligently and courtesously. The job was finished in the 4 days Van said that it would take and looks great! I am very pleased with the job that they did.
Description of Work: Van completely tore out my old driveway and replaced it with new concrete (2200 sq. ft.). He also repaired squares of my service walk to the front door and repaired an area that had settled away from (about 6") the front step to my porch. And he removed and replaced 6 squares of the public sidewalk. He then sealed the entire project with a high quality sealant and cleaned up the area by washing down everything and filling back in places where dirt/sod/decorative rocks had been moved.

Response from Van Croshier Concrete
Member, I absolutely did send you a proposal by email on May 31. I contacted you and told you I thought if was unfair to give us this feedback before you checked to see if I had sent you a bid or not. I called you immediately and you suggested I fax it, so I did this morning. This was a very large job and a job with very difficult access, and we did take notes and we took our time getting the bid to you to be sure it was thorough and included everything you wanted to have done. I know we could have done a very good job for you.

Van from Van Croshier Concrete Company gave me a clear and concise quote. The bid was emailed to me and had all the information I wanted. It was detailed and it didn’t read anything to imagination. We haven’t responded to the quote yet. They showed up when they said they would. They gave us a quote when they said they would. Their price was well within the range of my expectation however I would have preferred it to be lower. I would consider using them in the future.
Description of Work: Van from Van Croshier Concrete Company came to my house about three weeks ago to give me a quote. I wanted them to replace my concrete driveway with a few refinements. I wanted the size of the driveway adjusted. I also wanted them to tear off a concrete sidewall and replace it with an improved version.

I called Van Croshier Concrete earlier in the year. They were one of three companies called to give estimates for a new concrete patio. Estimate process went smoothly, Van and Vickie came together to give the estimate. Their bid came in the middle of the estimates dollar-wise, but Van seemed very knowledgeable and was willing to work with me on what I desired, so I gave him the job. After I faxed the signed proposal back in early April, I had to wait about a month before the project was completed. I know others could have done the job much quicker, but the weather became an issue and Van simply got busy. When it was my turn, the process went relatively smooth, with Van or his son here monitoring the work on a regular basis. Yes, a few things did go wrong, my cable line was nicked and I was without cable for awhile, although they did try to fix it. The crew borrowed a hose without asking and failed to put it back where they got it from (neither Van or his son was here at the time) simply leaving it lie in the yard unwound on the reel. Yet, overall I love the patio, the color was as described, as well as the texture. Van Croshier Concrete worked hard to please and I wouldn't hesitate to call them in the future.

All I can say is I'm sorry I didn't get back with you in a timely manner. This time of year, we are overwhelmed with phone calls for driveway replacements and repair, and my husband and I go to each and every potential job to do the estimate. It was surely not done intentionally. I think we just had too many jobs to go look at, and unfortunately, yours was not one of them that got scheduled.

The entire job went like clockwork. Van and Vicki Croshier arrived within 1 day of my call to discuss my concrete driveway, apron, city walk (partial) and walkway along side of house replacement needs and to make necessary measurements for a cost estimate. Within 24 hours a very detailed cost estimate was provided. Work was initiated at my requested start date and was completed in 21/4 days. On day 1, a seven man crew tore out the walkway along side the house as well as 3/4 of the driveway. These areas were formed, stone laid and compacted in the driveway area, followed by concrete pouring, finishing and sealing. On day 2 the crew removed prior day forms and concrete from the remaining drivewy, apron and city walk. Subsequently, the areas were formed, stone laid and compacted followed by the pouring, finishing and sealing of the cement. On day 3 (partial) the forms were removed and landscape was repaired. I was extremely happy with the quality of work, crew professionalism and skill, and updates on the game plan. I would definitely hire Van Croshier Concrete again.

I called the Van Croshier Company to get a time and cost estimate to remove and replace an existing concrete drive. Mr. Van Croshier and his wife, Vicki, came to my home within a couple of days of my initial call to determine the work scope. They were very knowledgeable, courteous, and helpful in developing a preliminary statement of work and set of specifications for the project. This included the entire driveway removal and replacement as well as some city sidewalk replacement, and repair on the front porch and front service walk. They patiently worked with me over a several day period to complete a work proposal, a final cost estimate, and quote a time-to-start date. They also procured the necessary permit to have the job inspected by the city engineer and had the locations of all underground utilities marked prior to starting the work. The work crew started on the scheduled day, were well managed, worked efficiently, and kept me informed as to the planned work and progress of that work. On completion of the work, they did an excellent job of cleaning and restoring the area to its original landscape configuration. The total experience with the Van Croshier Company was a positive one and I would highly recommend them for concrete work.

I had a great experience w/Van and family. Van Sr. and his wife came out for the estimate. They answered all of my questions and emailed my estimate promptly. They were willing to work w/me on price. I had received a similar quote for $300 less than their price. I wanted to go w/them so they were willing to match that quote. Van Jr. called me before he came out. He answered all my questions and kept in touch w/me from start to finish. He discovered that my driveway was sinking because the builder had used it as a dumping ground. He pulled out all the trash and filled it and compacted it properly. He also graded the drive properly so the water would run away from my garage door. I can't say enough about this company - it was great experience from start to finish. I plan to have them come back and powerwash and seal later in the season. Thank you!!

Van and his wife were good to work with. They gave me good advice based on what I told them I thought I wanted. He's very experienced, and made good suggestions. Work was started and completed within 1 week of my deposit. Van has a good crew, and showed up numerous times through out the day to check on them. A wonderful experience! Van Croshier were friendly and professional; eager to work with my own ideas and design, yet they also offered their experienced advice to make the installations even better (for instance, the under-concrete drains, mentioned above, and a bevelled curve on the retaining wall to make it stronger.) The cost of the project compared very favorably to other companies' estimates. Van Croshier were flexible, and even did some additional gravel work for me that wasn't included in the original plan or estimate, for only the minimal cost of additional material. One thing about their work method that I really appreciated is that they used wheelbarrows to transport the concrete from the mixing truck (which stayed in the street, never in my driveway!) to the pouring sites. Other than the usual excavation work that was needed, there was very little mess / upheaval in any part of my lawn. Also, their clean-up was impeccable! Our property has some odd slopes and drainage issues, especially in the area where the patio was installed, but Van Croshier were able to address all of those issues to eliminate the problems, including installing a gravel-filled "mini" version of a French drain around the edge of the new patio. Also, at my request, they went beyond the call of the job to help me re-locate some pavers/stepping stones that I already had on hand. The job was done quickly, but professionally. Together, the two installations took less than a week to complete, even working in some pretty chilly and damp conditions. The stamped and tinted concrete of the patio was definitely the way to go - it actually looks like slate tiles, and I LOVE IT! I am very, very pleased, and would definitely hire Van Crosier again, as well as recommend them to anyone. The only "complaint" I have - and it's not much - is the length of time that it took between their initial visit to discuss the project, and their getting back to me with the actual estimate. "Little Van," who came for the initial consultation, had told me that they would get back to me in 2-3 days. However, it was over a week later, after I left multiple phone messages for them, that they finally did e-mail an estimate to me. Not that one week is an excessively long time to wait for an estimate - it was just that I was told that it would be 3 days, so my expectations on that score were not fulfilled. But that was a very minor irritant...the great quality of the job itself, as well as their professionalism and courtesy, and the reasonable cost, more than made up for the longer-than-expected wait to get the estimate. THANK YOU, VAN CROSHIER!
Description of Work: In front, tore out old, broken sidewalk and replaced it with an expanded one, including an extra "leg" going out to driveway, and changing the step up to the existing front door stoop into a gradually sloping ramp, to make it handicap-accessible. In back, installed a stamped & tinted patio with a nice curved shape, and built a small, stacked-block retaining wall at one side of patio to accommodate the odd slope of our property. Also leveled a small entry area at the end of our three-season porch, and installed new gravel there. For both the front sidewalk and the back patio, they installed under-concrete drains for the existing downspouts, so that gutter run-off will run UNDER the new concrete installations, out to "pop-up" release valves in the yard. In my mind, this is a brilliant solution to a problem I've had in the past with icing-over on the sidewalk.

I called several companies to get a quote to replace our aging and heavily used gravel driveway with a concrete driveway. Van and his wife Vicki came out as scheduled to look at the work and to write us a quote. They were very professional and courteous and described exactly what they would do and why. In researching concrete driveways we saw other work done with borders and we really liked these kind of driveways. They showed us also some pictures of previous work they've done in the past which also contained quite a few driveways with a border. So we asked Van and Vicki to quote us a 1 foot border around the drive-way. Vicki was then very fast in sending us the quote over the weekend by e-mail and we decided to choose them. The price was not the lowest but it was well explained and we liked the wealth of experience Van has. We had another quote which was a lot cheaper but I think he may have cut some corners somewhere. Vicki told us they could start the job roughly two weeks later what they then also did. They came out with a lot of workers and worked very fast. Within the first day, they had all the foundation done and even already had the border poured. On the second day they finished the drive-way and on the third day they just finished up the work. They also did a very nice job filling up and leveling from the border to the surrounding lawn (Maybe another foot). We just have to seed it again. They also cleaned up after their work very well. Van kept us in the loop all the time about what they will do when. The end-product looks very, very nice and we all love it. Especially my children (5 & 7) love it since they now can drive their bikes and scooters on the drive-way much easier. They're driving it up and down whenever time permits. So it was a very pleasant experience to work with Van and Vicki and their product fits exactly our needs. We already requested a quote to redo our back porch and probably will let them do this next year.
Description of Work: Van and his team replaced a gravel driveway with a concrete driveway. We chose to have a different colored border around the driveway. While the gravel driveway provided them a good foundation they also had to lift up the driveway by about 10 inches at the far end of the garage door to get a more leveled exit from the garage.
