Troy-Built Wood Decks

Troy Rhoton is an extremely professional builder. This is truly a "family" business and they treat their customer as family. Very responsive, excellent advise and ideas, ON TIME AND ON BUDGET. We found Troy Built through an article in the Angie's List Magazine a few months ago. Made an appointment to discuss the project and got on the schedule for Spring 2015. We had a three week delay due to weather but nothing anyone could control. After adjusting the schedule Troy showed up exactly when he said he would and delivered exactly what we had agreed on. I would strongly recommend that you speak to Troy about any of your outdoor living projects which involve carpentry. They are EXCELLENT!!!

THE BEST!!!!!! We contacted Troy Built Decks 2 years ago to redo our deck but decided we weren't ready to do the work. I contacted John in March and he remembered us and located all the paperwork from before. Impressive. He gave us an estimate again within a week. Down payment was given and we were put on the calendar within a month. John was very easy to work with especially since we were not doing a complete Azek material deck. The first day of the job was the exact day they said they would be here. John and his crew, Danny, David and Robin, arrived on time. VERY POLITE, clean cut gentlemen. For the first few days they removed the entire existing deck and corrected areas that needed attention. All along the way they kept me informed with the progress and asked questions to make sure I was satisfied with outcome. Every night they cleaned up the area. Very happy. Once the new flooring went down , they took their time and did it RIGHT! Our deck is large and we felt the posts needed to be bigger than 4 x 4 so we went with 6 x 6 cedar posts. SO happy we did. We decided to stain them and John sent us to Porter Paints which they made a exact match to the color we wanted. The cedar posts caused a hic-up FOR US. We decided to add post caps and solar caps after the fact and had a difficult time finding caps that fit a TRUE 6 x 6 post. The next day, John delivered options to us. THANK YOU! Deck is now completed except for caps,(ordered) but we are extremely happy with the look as well as the quality. I have recommended this crew to all my neighbors and friends since our decks are all about the same age.

Troy and I met last August to go over proposed ideas for our new deck. He was prompt and made suggestions for different possibilities, as well as the changes in costs when different materials were used. We wanted Azek brand, as well as cable railing, and when something was explained via email and I could not visualize it, he sent me to a site where I could put in the different colors, posts, and deck material to see how it would look. We agreed on the middle of April for a start date and with weather problems started a week later. Troy and his family worked hard, finishing the deck in six days, in weather that was very cold, with a bone-shivering wind off the lake. I had rethought the lighting by this time, and Troy was cooperative in changing the original plan, as well as adding in some painting. We have a beautiful deck and my husband and I feel like we have a classy, Cape Cod, nautical look, with magical, soft lighting and lots of extra room. We saved all year to afford this deck and are breathtakingly happy with the result.

Troy was very professional and easy to work with. He was very patient and answered all of our questions throughout the process. We are very happy with how our project turned out and would absolutely work with him again!

Troy and his crew (all related) did a fantastic job for our new home. He created a custom deck with pergola, grilling area and bench seats. After drawing the deck he submitted it for approval to our HOA. It was very easy for us to say yes. He suggested Azek a fabricated decking material and are so glad we did. Beautiful and absolutely maintenance free for years to come. He rerouted our natural gas line to fit the grilling area. He was very responsive, professional, fair, and very quality conscious. I recommend him and would use him again in a minute. We are very pleased.

We were very pleased with Troy-Built and the fence they installed for us. Before any work began, Troy described in great detail the work that would be performed and thoroughly broke down the line item charges for our project. The work was completed on time (early actually) and for the exact amount we had discussed. And we were very pleased with the way the fence turned out. Easy to work with, quality service delivered in a timely manner at the agreed upon price... what more can you ask for? Note: The one area in which I did not give Troy-Built an "A" was for responsiveness. This is due to the difficulty we had initially getting in touch with them. After calling and emailing, a week or so passed without hearing anything back. However, we continued trying to contact them because of their great reviews on Angie's List. I'm glad we did because everything really turned out well. Also, Troy-Built was much better about staying in touch once things were actually set in motion with our project. Hopefully this is an area in which they can improve a little, but if they don't respond immediately, I suggest giving them an extra call or email... we're certainly glad we did.

Troy, his father-in-law and son built a beautiful deck for us. It was great to see 3 generations work so well together. They were very professional, answered all our questions and did a great job incorporating all our ideas into the deck design. Responded well to changes in the weather. Provided good advice for future care of the deck.

Estimate was secured promptly and the work was scheduled soon thereafter. The work was done very well and the work area was cleaned up afterwards. A very nice job.

We contacted Troy-Built Decks through Angie's List in July 2014. The owner met with us one evening and discussed all options of materials and price ranges. He gave suggestions as to what he believed would make a great outdoor space for us. We decided on what we liked and were put on the schedule. Troy kept us informed as to when the work would start, who the crew would be, and how long the project would take. Every day we were pleased with the progress we saw, and the professional manner of the crew. In a weeks time we had a beautifully constructed deck, better than we could have imagined. We wish we had done this project sooner, but we know we have a quality deck that we will enjoy for years to come!

I thought the chairman was very kind. We had no issues with it and they did our request. It worked out really well. I would use them again in the future.

Troy was very professional and accurate with his quote. He designed a deck to compliment our home and backyard. We were extremely please with the design, installation and pricing. I am also pleased to find out he will stand behind his product. We had a few boards split and was very pleased with the prompt response and expediency to correct the issue. My husband and I highly recommend Troy and his family.

They stripped it down to the main frame and then replaced the entire decking. The put on a new railing system and put on a pergola. It took them about a week. The crew was respectful and very neat. The owner of the company, Troy, was very responsive to my emails. He took care of all of my concernts and it was a very good relationship with him and I.

Ever since this porch has been built, I have had problems with it leaking. (Also electrical outlets trips anytime more than one item is plugged in) Troy came out several times to try to fix, but always after numberous calls to get him out. My mother lived in the home so I was not there to view the results each time, then a big storm would come and sure enough it would leak again. Now I am experiencing water in the wall by the deck. I am sure this is due to the leak that was never repaired. I made a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau in November 2013, and what do you know Troy showed up on that day. He worked on the leak and left. Again the roof leaked. I called Troy and he said he has tried everything he knows and that he doesn't know what else to do, so he sent me a $300.00 refund. That is a nice jester, but the damage that has been caused by the leak is now exponentially more. In addition, I just went up on the roof, and saw the "fixes" that he did. He used a putty color caulk on my new brown shingle roof. It looks awful. I am sure when I go to sell this house, I will be asked to have this replaced! A 5 year roof, now ruined. Would never use this contractor again. He is interested in getting a job done and getting his paycheck. Not doing quality work.

Excellent service from start to finish: quick quote turnaround, answered lots of questions, and produced a fantastic finished product. Labor costs were very reasonable; materials made the overall price a little more expensive than hoped, but comparable to other quotes.

We really enjoyed our experience with Troy, his son Tom, and his Father-in-Law Bill. All 3 of them were very professional and friendly throughout the whole construction process. Given that they perform the work themselves, vs. using subcontractors, I felt very safe with my wife working from home by herself even while construction was going on; which was very important to me. During the construction, we were very impressed with the cleanliness of the job site. The crew picked up after themselves throughout the day, and the job site was very clean and organized before the crew left each day. We really appreciated this so that our child and dog would not step on any construction materials and hurt themselves in the evenings. It was also nice that our home was not an eye soar for our neighbors during construction. The quality of the deck itself is where I strongly feel Troy and his team set themselves apart from the rest. As someone who is very detailed myself, I was really amazed at the level of craftsmanship and attention to detail; even on parts of the deck that would never be seen after completion. The only negative, and it is very minor, is that sometimes it can be difficult to reach Troy throughout the business day. However, I found Troy to be very responsive in the evenings and very good at responding by email. If I did let Troy know that my matter was urgent, he was always quick to reach out as soon as possible. I had to remind myself that Troy is not only the person designing and quoting my project, but is also involved in the installation, and therefore is not easily accessible while he is on another client's job site. This negative was actually a positive though during the construction of our project because Troy stayed entirely focused on our deck construction and was not stepping away to take phone calls. While working on our project, the deck progressed very quickly each day, and I really enjoyed coming home to see the completed work each night. Overall, there were less expensive contractors that we could have chosen, but I strongly feel that Troy was the best value given the quality of the deck materials and craftsmanship of the installation. After having Troy build this deck for us, I could not imagine using anyone else in the future.

We got him on Angie's List. The prices were reasonable. They were very professional, and they cleaned up after themselves.

John, David, and Danny were amazing to work with. John quickly responded to my inquiry, counseled us on deck options, and worked with us to create our vision for an extended living space. He was quick to respond with drawing and options. Once we agreed on the deck, we were on the schedule quickly. John, David, and Danny showed up everyday when they said they said they would, were friendly and outgoing throughout the process. Took pauses in their day to talk about options and give updates. John made sure that he gave us a daily update on the progress and we discussed any necessary adjustments. I felt like they really partnered with us to create a deck they would be proud of. Their work was meticulous and they went above and beyond to ensure our deck was solid in every way down to the smallest board. I felt like three professional men showed up to my house everyday and I would trust them in my home anytime. They were even helpful with other contractors and utilities. It may be a small thing, but they cleaned up the work space each day and were very careful around our yard. I would recommend them to anyone who wants an amazing deck. I was a little sad to see them go.

The crew's names were John, Dave and Dan. I liked working with them, John the project leader was patient with me with the redesigns and changes I made. They were extremely professional, punctual, exceptionally nice gentlemen and detailed oriented.

We met with Troy (owner) in January to get a bid. We had another contractor we were pretty sure we were going to go with, but after meeting with Troy, we liked his ideas and professionalism better, so ended up signing a contract with him for the job. I had found an idea of the design of the screen porch from the internet and he easily incorporated this into his design and offered us the option of EzeBreeze windows, which did not add a huge amount of cost, but will greatly increase the flexibility of the room by being able to pull down the windows when it is cool or rainy. Due to the weather and other projects he already had on schedule, he did not start until May, but this gave us time to get our homeowners association approval. The work crew primarily consisted of Troy, his son, and father-in-law. We were impressed with the quality of the work and they did a great job keeping the work site clean. Troy's communication was great throughout the process and he was very flexible to incorporate changes (eg: adding a raised garden bed and changing paint color after he had already started painting) or fix any issues. We are extremely pleased with the end product and would highly recommend Troy-Built decks!

Exceptionally meticulous. Price was substantially lower than other bidders' but the workmanship and materials were outstanding.

Troy was a pleasure to meet and there was no doubt we trusted him to build us a great deck. We live in a neighborhood with homes spaced very closely and wanted a bit of privacy to be incorporated in our deck. Troy came up with a unique design that satisfied our wishes and presented several options that we hadn't even considered. we felt he included us in the process, listening to our ideas and coming up with solutions. He was very prompt and even called me the day after we first met to ask if he could bring someone by to look at the concrete situation. Troy has returned to replace several deck boards that were damaged and without any delay. This shows just how much he stands by his work. I have been planning this out for years, with many different versions and I am happy to say that what Troy has created turned out to be exactly what we were looking for. Excellent Job! I would highly recommend him.

Troy designed and built a deck of approximately 2400 square feet. When we contacted Troy initially we had some vague ideas of how we wanted to extend our deck. Within a week of our initial meeting, Troy had developed a conceptual design of how we could integrate our deck with our wooded lot. On paper if appeared to capture what we were looking for. Troy began our project in late March and his team worked through end of April. We were completely blown away by our end result - it was even more impressive then the plans on paper!! Each day, Troy and his son, Tom and his father-in-law, Bill - literally built our deck by hand. Each piece of wood, each nail and each measurement was completed with such precision and detail - as if they were building their own deck. It was very special to watch three generations at work together. We can not thank Troy enough for our gorgeous deck. We know our family will spend countless hours enjoying our deck for many years to come. We would HIGHLY recommend working with Troy and we will work with him again if ever needed.
