Description of Work: Troy (Rhoton) came to give me an estimate on building me a deck. He was wonderful! Not daunted by my rahter "challenging" aging porch area! Came up with some beautiful plans----as we sat in the kitchen!! He gave me an estimate before he left! I had had other people come and give estimates...they were no where close to being as friendly and professional as Troy!!! I decided right away that I wanted him to do my deck. Since providing me a contract with details, I have incurred a significant problem with my roof that needs to be corrected before any new deck can be installed. Troy was extremely unerstanding and willing to state "to be determined on my contract." Additoinally, after the contract was written, I decided that I would like to save a little money and do my own "demolition". Troy was fine with that. He advised me of what kind of paint I needed to prepare some materials for him! When I originally met him and indicated I wanted to update my screened porch when he puts my deck on, he told me he would be happy to give me ideas on how to "doll it up" and even give me a listing of the materials I would need! I am so impressed. I have yet to have my deck installed, due to the (unfortunate) uncooperativeness of my roofer....but when I am ready to go, I am supremely confident that Troy and his company will do an excellent job for me!!

+ -1 moreTroy cam out personally to give an estimate and helped draw up a plan on the spot. After several changes and incorporating all of my preferences we decided to go with Troy. Aside from communicating with us the exact timing of their start date (even as the date approached) we were VERY pleased with the process. Jeff came out and worked tirelesly on the deck building an immaculate deck that was solid and of high quality. Very pleased with his work. 2 months later we now use our deck constantly and has added a whole dimension to our backyard. Would definantly use them in the future.

+ 0 moreOverall this was a fabulous experience! Troy's brother, Mike Williams (and his worker Tom) were the two guys who did all the work on our property. They negotiated the deal and started the work that very next week. From start to finish, this job went extremely smooth. These guys were extremely professional and always were conscientious about our home, especially careful not to let our dogs get out the gate. Their woodwork was impeccable and beautiful; They were true perfectionists. They were extremely easy to talk to and explained everything as they went along. Unlike most construction workers, they thankfully did not smoke, so I didn't have to worry about picking butts out of my koi pond after they left! This experience gave me new hope that there still are great Indianapolis companies who provide top-notch customer service! I definitely will hire them again. They are 2 great guys!
Description of Work: Powerwashed, stained & stabilized 3 decks (one large & 2 small), a fence and 2 arbors. Also added ceiling panels with gutter systems to under side of 2 story deck.

+ -1 moreDeck construction went pretty well. They had guessed wrong on the amount of dirt that needed to be moved, so I lent a hand to get things moving (very hard work). Deck looks nice and works well for us. A little erosion occurs where water runs down under the deck.
Description of Work: We had designed a custom deck for our spa. Troy reviewed our plans and adjusted them for practicality. He than constructed the deck. Sorry for being so late with feedback.

He obviously loves what he does and his passion for design is very evident. I had to wait awhile for them to begin the project. However, once the project was started, it was completed quickly. Troy inspected the sight and had some additional ideas and came up with a plan we liked. Troy was very professional and easy to work with. His work is exceptional. I've had some experience with builders and I was impressed from the start with his choice of quality materials and contruction methods. He was on the job daily and completed the job as agreed. When neighbors and friends stop by the first thing they comment on is the beautiful deck and gazebo. If you want a professional job and want to feel comfortable with the quality of work you will get, you can not go wrong with Troy Built Decks.
Description of Work: We had a complete large new deck added to the rear of our home as part of a major remodeling job. In addition we had a gazebo added to the deck and a hot tub recessed into the deck.

He sat there on the spot drawing a design for the decks that was what we envisioned, yet even better! When we signed the contract and right before he started construction he said "you're going to love the new deck we're going to build for you". And we do! Thanks Troy for our great decks!
Description of Work: He dismantled and removed our existing upper and lower wood decks and constructed two new decks using a composite flooring and perimeter edging with cedar railings and aluminum ballisters.

+ -1 moreAt every point during the process I was pleased with Troy and his help. They are knowledgeable, experienced, and take great pride in their work. We are very happy with the final product and are looking forward to spring!
Description of Work: Troy came out to give us a quote on a new deck. I was able to get some ideas of his past work from his website. We had a couple of ideas that we wanted to get estimates on and Troy worked up sketches right then. He provided quotes for a variety of different material options and we picked the one within our budget. At that point we had to wait on some funds. Troy kept in contact and worked with me on a date that worked with my schedule. Once they got started they worked diligently, kept a clean work site, involved me in decisions/concerns during the build process. We have a natural gas line to our grill and they went over and above on moving the line and doing the work the right way even though it set them back some time on actually building the deck. It took them a little longer than they originally thought to complete the deck but only because they were more interested in quality than rushing to complete the work. They even worked through the weekend to make up some time.

They asked the right questions and answered any questions I had throughout the whole process. They completed the job on time and within budget. + -1 moreTroy himself came to my house to draw up a plan and give me an estimate. He was very professional and informative. Since the job was smaller than others he had going on at the time, he was able to squeeze in building this deck within a few weeks from the day he came to my house. Other contractors were quoting me a completion date of early fall. A few weeks later, Troy and his team came to the condo to build the deck. They were done in a little over a day and they did an excellent job. They also cleaned up everything - you never would have known they were there. Troy's son Tom came out about a month later to stain and seal the deck. He even fixed the down-spout opening at no extra charge. They did an excellent job!

+ -1 moreTroy did a great job throughout the entire design and build process. He listened carefully to what we wanted in the new deck. His initial design met all our criteria. He explained our options for decking materials and the associated maintenance and cost differences. Troy was very patient with our questions as we worked through defining all the project specs. The build started and finished on the promised dates. Troy and his two assistants arrived on time and worked steadily each day (weather allowing) until they finished the deck. They took care around the landscaping close to the construction area. Troy very willingly replaced a few rough cedar boards at my request late in the build. We enjoyed working with Troy and highly recommend him for any deck project. (Note: I rated price "good" because I didn't have any competitive bids for our exact specs, which we settled on after selecting Troy Built.)
Description of Work: Removed old deck. Designed and built new two level deck with pergola. Used more expensive composite decking materials for deck floors, steps, and sides. Used cedar for railings and pergola.

The work went according to schedule, with ample opportunity for review and input. The deck was sealed as quickly as possible after weather conditions became conducive to sealing. Trhoughout the construction process, Troy worked with the building inspector to ensure that the necessary process was followed and appropriate inspections were completed.
Description of Work: Troy-Built constructed a deck off our kitchen, which is over a walk-out basement. Troy spent about 90 minutes with us asking questions and finding out what we were looking for. He then designed a deck that exactly matched our needs. It is a large deck with ample seating area, stairs down to the basement level, and two large entry/exit points. Troy-Built also sealed the deck after construction was complete.

+ -1 moreEverything was great. The only reason we gave Troy a "B" for responsiveness was because it took a long time for him to get an estimate to us. It turned out that he was out of town for around a week or two. That slowed things down. Other than that, he provides quality work and a very reasonable cost. This is the third project for which we have employed him. We recommend him highly. Troy has a lot of projects lined up, so you might have to wait longer than you would for someone else. But the wait is well worth it.
Description of Work: We wanted a walkway from our driveway to our back gate. The area under the walkway tends to overflow when we have flash flooding. Thus, in addition to building the walkway, Troy also had to excevate the area below the walkway. In essence, he was building a walkway and a retention pond.

+ -1 moreWe had Troy out last year for estimates to redo our old deck. We decided to demolish the old deck and create a new and bigger 2 story deck made with composite wood. Troy created 3 different designs for us to choose from and make any changes if we wanted. We had a look in mind, found a picture on a website and Troy recreated the look for us. Troy and his family are extremely hard workers. They all pay close attention to detail and are very respectful. They cleaned up every night and were very friendly. They are very trustworthy. I would highly recommend this company and I am very picky. Our deck looks very sharp and we have had a lot of compliments on it. We love our new deck!
Description of Work: Troy, his father-in-law and son came and demolished our entire old two story wood deck. They built a new 2 story composite material deck with aluminum black railings and lights. Troy created the deck design and gave us a lot of good suggestions. He took care of all the permits and approvals. He is very detail oriented.

He provided a detailed drawing of the project so I could submit it to my homeowner's association which helped me expedite my project. I had many ideas of what I would like to do with my new deck, but Troy helped me put it all together, gave me ideas of what would work best and the results were outstanding! He kept his tools and supplies in an orderly manner and removed all old material promptly. I would highly recommend Troy Built Decks for anyone looking for a highly reputable contractor for their deck project. He is familiar w/all decking material which is very important. I used Trex composite decking and he did install it correctly with proper gapping & spanning.
Description of Work: Troy helped with the design layout of our current deck replacement and a new extended second level deck. He also helped with railing, lighting and moving a gas line for our grill.

+ -1 moreWe had Troy come out at the end of the summer to draw up a plan for us and give us an estimate for our deck. We looked at several companies and his craftsmanship seemed really good and we liked the plan he drew up the best. His price was actually slightly lower too. He has several crews but we decided to wait the extra time to have his crew (Troy, his son and his father in law) build ours. It was worth the wait. He came in late Nov. and started work. It took around a week to complete. He built a two level pressure treated wood deck with an arbor for a porch swing we wanted to hang. They did a great job. Troy was easy to work with. We changed several things in the plan during the building and Troy was agreeable and made it work for us. We would definitely use this company again. They do great high quality work.

His bid was great and the lowest, and came highly recommended. Nothing but a positive experience. His crew was great as well. He identified areas that were not up to code and came up with an overall plan that was superior to the other bids we obtained. The result was a deck that looked brand new and beautiful. He also recommended an electrician to complete wiring needs and 2 of his workers also stained the deck. We are so happy with the finished product!
Description of Work: Troy entirely rebuilt one long section of our existing deck and re-planked, redid the railing and rebuilt 2 stairways on a newer section of our deck.

+ 0 moreTroy and his crew did an excellent job. When we were getting estimates, he spent quite a bit of time with us explaining the different materials and options. He drew a plan that night in front of us and gave us multiple estimates (the materials made a big difference in price). It was clear he takes his work very seriously and was never pushy. He gave us a much better feeling than the other contractors we talked to. The work itself took 2 to 3 weeks. Troy and his crew took their time to make sure it looked perfect. They dealt with Carmel's many requirements very well and spent a lot of time on the details. I usually notice all of the little imperfections immediately, which can annoy me for years after the work has been done. In this case, I have yet to find an imperfection! The cost was a little higher than we would have liked, but the materials were the main reason for this. Going with pressure-treated wood would have lowered the cost significantly.
Description of Work: Troy installed a composite deck and screened-in porch in the back of our house. The deck has two sets of stairs and the railing is made of composite material as well. The side of the deck has vertical composite "wood" to close it up. The screened-in porch as large screen windows, a fan, and a number of electrical outlets. The floor is composite but the walls and roof are exactly the same as the rest of our house. You cannot tell it's an addition.

He answered all our questions and gave us a referral list so we could check out his work. His website is very helpful too. We are in the middle of a kitchen remodel and have decided to do the deck in the early spring. We will have Troy do it and report back after it is done.
