The movers were all so kind and professional. Very caring employees and skilled movers. Would highly recommend them! They were very respectful of my parents during the move. Worked efficiently and carefully. Husband and wife owners were very active in the process and are great to work with.

We were grossly over-charged for our services. Estimated at $1200, charged $1750! And wait until you hear why....This company was recommended to us by the assisted living facility. Jan, from the company, scheduled an estimate with me. This was very difficult to schedule because I live in Ohio and my mother is Indiana and my mother wanted her helper to be there when they came because of a stroke and she has difficulty communicating. Jan was a no show/no call for the estimate. I called her to inquire and was told she just forgot and she was very sorry. We rescheduled and Jan called me with the estimate of $1200 to pack and move my mother's one bedroom apartment. This seemed reasonable since I just moved her last year and we paid the movers $800 to move her 2 bedroom apartment, including a washer and dryer. My mother was not moving her washer and dryer this time and had gotten rid of much furniture, etc. since she knew she was moving to a smaller unit. So a bed two dressers, a couch, chair, two end tables, a small bistro table and her personal items. They showed up to pack on time and they were in and out very quickly. I drove to Indy to assist my mother with her move the next day. The movers arrived when I did, on time. Upon entering the apartment I was surprised to see so many items yet to be packed. The movers assured me they had additional packing supplies and they could help. They set about loading everything into the truck. I found the movers to be curteous and helpful. They arrived at the assisted living facility and began unloading the truck. The maintenance team at the facility dedicated an elevator to the crew so they could move efficiently. They placed the boxes in the hallway as not to congest a small unit, but that left us to move these boxes ourselves, including 5 large boxes to the storage unit down the hall. They placed the furniture where we requested. It seemed to be taking unnecessarily long for them to bring items up, but I was busy unpacking and wasn't too worried about it. I did notice, however, that as we placed the empty boxes and packing materials in the hallway the crew was folding the packing materials and boxes and taking them back to the truck, I assume to reuse for another customer. When they completed they asked if we needed help with anything else. I was presented with the bill of $1750 and immediately disputed the amount because that was so much higher than quoted. The gentleman (owners son) called his mother to verify the estimate. I was then told they would take $30 off of the packing materials, but that was it. I asked for an explanation why it was so much higher and here are the excuses: 1. The elevators are slow at the facility. (They regularly move people into this building. If that is the case it should have been included in the estimate. And, in fact, I heard them telling someone they had been there several times in the last week.) 2. The unit was far down the hallway. (See my remark above and note that a few more steps down the hallway should not cost $500.) 3. My mother was in the way. (This was such a rude remark for a company who specializes in moving seniors. She was not in the way, she sat in the kitchen for the load and was in the kitchen for the unload.) 4. They had to use additional packing materials. (If I paid for them, where are they? Taken to use on another customer on my dime. And $200!? And maybe expensive wardrobe boxes (assuming that's all they had, because that's all they used) wouldn't need to be used if the apartment was packed properly in the first place.) Exhausted from the move, the drive to Indy, and dealing with a parent who did not want to move into assisted living, we begrudgingly paid the bill. And to add insult to injury, we later noticed that only $20 was reduced for materials not the $30. I understand it is an estimate, not a contracted price. However, this is a known facility to them and they should have estimated more accurately. I feel terribly taken advantage of for such a small job and would never recommend them because of this. I am also going to request that the facility no longer recommend them, so they aren't scamming seniors out of their hard earned money.

Drew and his crew showed up on time. Everything was pretty much boxed and ready to go. They wasted no time in moving boxes and furniture onto truck. All three of them were neat in appearance and very friendly. Put everything where they were asked to. Even offered to hook up tv's. We were very impressed with this company

I was very pleased with the services. I called to get an estimate. Jan came out and was very thorough with a variety of possibilities for the move. I called several times before the exact date of the move was known. She was always pleasant and informative each time. The packers and movers were professional, pleasant and made things as good as a move can be. They went out of their way to accommodate us both.
Description of Work: The provider moved me from a home shared with another person who also moved into another residence that same day. They packed us up the day before and unpacked us both the day of the move.

I can't say enough about this company and the burden they lifted from us as we made this emotional and difficult move. With a very bad past experience with a local mover under our belts, we were a little jaded going into this project. The move was fraught with grief, loss, and difficult choices, made worse by the distance involved; however, Jan Tienhaara was kind, reassuring, honest, and always responsive from the first contact. We felt their estimate was reasonable, especially considering the travel time and gas involved, and we were especially relieved that they were available for a Saturday move. John and Andy arrived in Fort Wayne at 9:00 a.m. (promised between 9:00 and 9:30 a.m. with 2+ hour drive). When my husband, who was supervising that end of the move, texted me that they had arrived on time and were and quot;very nice and professionaland quot;, I knew everything would be okay. Did I say we'd been burned in the past? John phoned me twice on this end to keep me abreast of their expected arrival time here, which was spot on. It was a very warm day, but there was never a complaint or even a sigh. They had a very long walk to carry furniture and boxes from the parking lot, onto an elevator, to the last apartment down the hall, and were pleasant, polite, and accommodating to the end. Clothes were unpacked and hung, and only the few boxes we chose to unpack ourselves were left behind. There was not a scratch, dent, or break of any kind in either residence or to the belongings. The gratuity offered was met with humble appreciation. We have and will continue to highly recommend them to the staff at the Assisted Living facility.

Personal counsel, attention to detail, competent professionals, and the confidence that your possessions will be treated as if belonging to the professional, well trained, men and women that Senior Life Transitions employ. The experience was more akin to having seasoned and quot;bellmenand quot; at a fine hotel moving for us but rather than luggage, awkwardly sized furniture and household artifacts transported were to our newly constructed home. Better experience and less expensive than any of our many relocations associated work relocation. This firm has packaged all ingredients pertenent to and quot;transitioningand quot; people to offer a comprehensive value proposition to those seeking, quality, trust, and the confidence that they will deliver the services the the client desires without compromise. They display business acumen but that professionalism is overshadowed by their engaging personal manners. We believed that our family was and quot;moving for usand quot;. Fair prices, exceptional service, reliable, etc. Enthusiastically recommended!
Description of Work: -Organized, packed, and moved from a 2400 sf home to a 5500 sf home. Downsizing to an open "floor plan" home as empty nesters. -Packed fragile items, protected sensitive or vulnerable electronic gear and moved separately. -Perhaps more importantly, provided objective counsel relative to the "downsizing" process. This was new territory for us, leaving behind a home built for "raising a family" to move to a home built for retirement comfort purposely built so that we would not have the nooks and crannies to "accumulate stuff".

I was not happy with them. They were kind but when they came they told us to decide what to take in small quarters, which was downsizing. They claimed that they will pack one day before, move you the next day and settle you. Have all your pictures in place because they have to take pictures of the furniture and other belongings. So, when they put you in the new place and walk in, everything is already in place. I found out that they moved the furniture. They would not permit me to be in their when they were unpacking and settling. I would have been in their way and they have a whole family working for you. I still don't have the pictures of how they put things that way. I have found them less than perfect. When I called them to say that some things were broken, they said that they did not do it. The shelf that was moved to my garage was damaged and I was not able to put it together and it was new shelf. When I told them that, they said that they were never in the garage. I don't know how they moved things. I found them very patronizing when she was trying to move us in. But when it came to accountability like damages incurred they did not take responsibility. I will not recommend them. However, they were careful with my china wares, they wrapped it separately. But if I had 24 plates, I would not put them in one stack and they did find them that way. They did it by category rather than what makes so things won't break. What they promised is not the same with what service they delivered and they claimed that they did no damage. I called them up to complain and they came to do some repairs but the parts that they used for the repair was not the same material with the original and was cheap. There were some nice touches, like flowers to welcome you to your new home. But still I was not happy because what stood out was their service.

They moved us from a 3 bedroom house to a two bedroom apartment. They took forever to pack us up (partly our fault for not having everything ready) and moved us to the apartment by late afternoon. It was evening by the time they got everything unloaded and two of the three movere had to leave for another job, leaving one person to get the remaining boxes moved into the apartment. They were young and probably not as experienced or efficient as other movers. The final cost was about twice the original estimate.

The movers were on time and very personable. We were impressed that although most of the crew was young, they were very polite and professional. Delicate, fragile things were carefully wrapped. Furniture was moved and placed with efficiency and care. Of all her antiques, one did not survive transport in spite of the movers best efforts- an old, rickety Armoire that we all decided would not be safe for her to store things in. The movers helped us take the pieces back down and load it in our pickup truck. This is the third family move that we've hired them to do...Sean and Jan are genuine, caring people- we could not have managed without them!

This was actually the 2nd move in 6 mos.---the 1st move was Jan. 2013; the 2nd move in July '13. Both times the young men were very prompt in arrival. They took great care with all the furniture and household goods -- including fragile items. They were very professional -- working quickly and efficiently. They were very respectful to my parents and helpful in making an emotional transition go very smoothly.

I wouldn't call anyone else! This 2nd move in December was for my husband's parents, whom we had just moved from Ohio to an elderly home (I won't say which one) in Nov. Senior Life Transitions had done that move, too, and had done a GREAT job! My in-laws are very old, my Mother-in-law has alzheimer's and my father-in-law has Parkinson's; so, not only were we dealing w/moving their belongings (some things into storage/some things into their new home) from out of state, but also had lots of health issues to worry about (and couldn't get over to OH beforehand). STRESS! That 1st move went flawlessly...thanks to them. They are top notch. Unfortunately, the and quot;homeand quot; we moved them to here had not been upfront about their lack of ability to care for my mother-in-law's more advancing alzheimer's. This home looks pretty to visit, but they really only wanted elderly folks in the early stages of the disease because they couldn't care for her/them as they progress. We found out within 2 weeks we HAD to move them AGAIN! And this was right before Christmas! At this time, my mother-in-law was in the hospital, we had to find them a new place to live, my husband works, we have kids in school - things were chaotic! I called Jan at Senior Life Transitions (again) and she was so empathetic. She knew our hearts were breaking, but we were stressed. She worked us into her schedule, even with this last minute notice. She was a God-send! We were frantically trying to find the right place for Mother and Daddy to live (we did, thank God!). Again, Jan and her family took exceptional care of us! They showed up on time, packed everything up, were polite and patient w/everyone, moved some things multiple times (and hung some things multiple times!) to satisfy my father-in-law, worked a very long day and got the job done beautifully! Nothing was done shoddy and nothing in either move ever got broken. If we have to move them again, I wouldn't call anyone else. They are warm and professional...every one of them. The best!
Description of Work: They moved my elderly mother and father-in-law twice: The first time from Ohio to Carmel, IN. They packed all of their belongings. They had to do a lot of this based on discussions as we were unable to get to Ohio ahead of time and give them exact information on what they had and what would go where when they arrived (storage vs. their new home). They unpacked their belongings here, hung pictures of grandchildren/paintings, set up furniture, etc. Nothing got broke. They had to help us decide on-site regarding which furniture would fit and which would have to go into storage. We had a plan, but in the end some things had to be changed and they were very flexible and very nice about everything! On the 2nd move, they moved my in-laws into a smaller place and again took the excess things (furnitures, books...all kinds of things that accumulate!) over to storage. They even helped decide where to hang some items on the walls when nobody could decide! They are the best and we wouldn't use any one else! Read on to see why!

It was a tremendous disappointment for the cost. It was expensive and we did not receive the exceptional service that we had previously. I would tell people to clarify what you think they're going to provide before you actually use them and to not go by what is on their website or previous experiences.
Description of Work: We had used them two previous times and it was great. They packed and unpacked things for us. They had the house completely set up for us including electronics. This time did not go so well. They didn't send enough people for the job. It was a complete disaster. Everything was packed this time and all they had to do was move boxes into the truck. During the move their truck broke down. We expected them at 8am and they didn't get there until 9:30am and only had 2 people to move everything. They put all of the boxes in one room instead of where they were labeled to go and they told me that they didn't have time to move them. I am older and would not be able to move these boxes myself because of how heavy they were . They didn't take a table and chairs with them when they left that they were supposed to. They also broke a table. Our carpet ended up grimy and our TV set was left in pieces on the floor.

These are wonderful people to deal with. I talked with Jan, the owner, more than once and she was helpful with tips for packaing and transporting some belongings ourselves. John and Bryce, the movers, were very polite, friendly, and efficient. They finished our small job in record time. Sean, the other owner, even visited at the end of the move to make sure everything went smoothly and we were satisfied with their services. I felt the cost was competitive as I had estimates from another mover. I would certainly recommend this family owned business to anyone doing a local move.

Our experience with Senior Transitions was excellent. Since they are a family-owned company, I felt their service was more personal. They understood the challenges and intricacies of moving seniors. Jan kept in touch with me every step of the way. Her husband and son were the main movers on site. Instead of taking two days to move, they were able to deliver the apartment contents the same day, no small feat because drive time one-way was five hours. All items were packed well and there was no damage to any belongings. Jan met me the next morning and walked through the apartment to make sure we were satisfied with the furniiture placement. My mother's sudden illness and the need to move her closer to us made this time very stressful. Senior Transitions helped take some of that stress away. I would recommend them highly to anyone, especially the elderly.

The family operated and staffed Tienhaara crew came in and like magic, carefully packed up our entire home. They made what is usually a very stressful event, seem effortless. They calmed me down with their careful, efficient, professional and friendly work. The following morning, they systematically loaded the truck, moved us to our new residence, unpacked everything we needed, placed the furniture exactly where we wanted, and even made the bed for us! I can't say enough good things about this company. They are very honest, careful, hard-working and even had great personalities, which was a very nice plus. Although the cost justifiably exceeded their estimate, the saying rings true and quot;you get what you pay forand quot;. I would highly recommend them to anyone wanting a superior moving company!!
