Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Drain Services replaced a section of solid piping sewer line. They said they'd get the permit. For this price she could have put in a whole new septic system. We found out from the county that we were in violation because the permit was not filed. Had we known that, the county would have required that a new septic was put in.

Rudy came out immediately. We have had problems with this drain before. He worked really hard to clean it thoroughly and did a good job. They were very professional. It is the first time the drain has been thoroughly cleaned in 10 years. He was just great. They were good with our dogs. Overall, the experience was great. He was very reasonable and because we have had so much trouble with the drain and I was so impressed with Rudy, I opted for the year service treatment.

I am usually desperate when I call them, and they usually do come pretty promptly. They took care of the issue and solved the problem promptly. I felt like they tried to get me do some real expensive things. I actually called another company to give me a second opinion, because what Roto-Rooter had suggested was so expensive. The other company gave me an estimate that was half of what Roto-Rooter was. They said that they didn't even know if that was a good idea. Roto-Rooter did fine on the work they did, but it just seemed to me that they tried to drum up a lot of business. I would recommend them to others if they need somebody to come out right away. If I need somebody fast, they will come, so I would use them again in the future.

I actually required two visits to clear the drain behind my washer. The technician tried to do it first by snaking it, but that didn't work, so he had to return with another man with a little more experience. They determined a pipe beneath the washer had to be replaced. This required going into my crawl space, which was anything but pleasant, but you wouldn't have known it by their attitudes. They were great about it. The dispatchers were also extremely nice. When the first plumber was delayed at the stop before mine, I received not one, but two calls letting me know what the situation was. I appreciated that they didn't leave me hanging. I'm only grading them down on price because it seems a little high to me, but I wasn't in a position to compare and I suspect it may have been about what I would have been charged by another company.

Sewage was backed up in basement and bathroom on Super Bowl weekend when I had company. Called RotoRooter at 11:30, they had a guy out by midnight. Guy cleaned the pipes and got the drain to go. Pulled out a huge root mess. Noticed there was a stop further in the line. Clogged back up the next day, sent another guy out to unclog and they did it for free. Then they sent out a free camera (but have to pay to get DVD) the next week to check the clog further down the line. Was able to watch and he pinpointed the clog which appeared to be a broken pipe. Not a good look at it, but got a second look from someone else who verified it. Quoted me what it would be to excavate and fix, and the price was around $5000. After getting other quotes, they came in DOUBLE of what other people were going to charge. Overall, their prices are really bad and you can get better price (maybe service) from someone local, but they are very prompt and quick if you're in an emergency in the middle of the night.

I called roto-rooter and requested estimate and projected availability to resolve drain back-up. a dispatch service responded. they said they had a service person in our area and could respond within 60 minutes. they said as estimate would be provided on site. I ok'd the service. a service overseer called after about 50 minutes and said it would be another hour before a service person could respond. I started looking at complaints on roto-rooter and noted that delays in response was fairly prevalent. So I decided to call another provider (Bedell Plumbing) and proceeded with them. I called back and cancelled service from roto-rooter. It makes sense. The service people are already engaged and not immediately available. That can and often would impact response time.

We have used them in the past and so when they called they had all our information on their system. That was good and so they responded quickly. My husband was very happy with the gentleman who came and looked over the problem. If we could not resolve the problem manually, we knew we would have to call them back for major work.

I was quoted $1200 to replace a 40 gallon water heater with a brand new one. The make seems okay - couldn't find it in any stores and was assured it was a good make - it did come with a 10 year warranty. Price was some $600 for the tank and $600 for labor. The plumber also took my old water tank away. The installation seemed fine and he was knowledge in the area - don't always expect that! He also fixed my leaking shower - at an hourly rate of $165. I also wanted him to fix the leaking toilet - he said that's another $165 even though it took me some 10min to fix it myself... The lesson is, don't ask them to do extra jobs as they will charge you one hour's work for every little thing, even if it only takes 10min. But I'm pleased with the work he has done on the water heater.

they went to my sons house, looked at the job and told him it would be $2800 to do this job, which was 1600 per guy as it would take 8 hours to finish. They told him they would be back tomorrow to do the job. Well for some reason they were out there in a couple hours, not even telling my son they were doing it that night, but he happened to be there and watched them and it took both workers less than 2 1/2 hours to complete. So when i checked my credit card they had charged the whole $2800 for work they claim would take 8 hours that took less than 3. My husband talked to the roto rooter before work started and he told my husband that it was a parts/time job not to exceed 2800 not a contracted fee. So our complaint is why charge 2800 for a job that should have been much less, actually 6 1/2 hours less time. We feel cheated and are upset that an angies list company would do this to us, plus refuse to see our side and told us it is what it is! I think that is very unprofessional and wont use them again. ** I feel that the response given by Roto rooter is incorrect. I did look at the contract closely and talked to my son and he did sign the contract but was told he needed to sign it before work done, and never signed afterwards, a good(honest) company would tell him to wait for the work to be done to sign it, but being a new homeowner he was just wanting to get his water turned back on as he has 2 small children and lets face it we need running water on a daily basis. And the 6.5 hours is rediculous, 3 hours tops.
Description of Work: I recommended roto Rooter to my son who had a water break in his yard! We paid for the service that is why Im complaining. They dug up a hole and repaired a pipe.

We charge a flat rate for excavation work. Our proposal says nothing about time/parts. It clearly states the cost of the job. This is to protect the customer from dragging out the job contracted. Actual time in this job was 6.5 hours which includes travel, equipment, and time at location. We regret that he is upset with us but he clearly understood the cost of the job upfront. He contracted us to do the work. He has a warranty on our repair. He signed for us to begin the work and he sign upon completion of job that he was clearly satisfied with our work.

He put down a tarp, but still sprayed offal from the snake around the garage floor and wall. Then the District Manager came out. He had the video unit. We watched the snake go down the pipe and tracked it's head. That was worth every bit. Now we know which way the pipes run. We also know there are no breaks in the lines and no sign of tree roots. The uneasiness is over the video DVD. In case we found debris from the tile in the lines and the overflows continued I wanted a video record. I asked for that up front. At the end of the run the DM acted like he hadn't heard. So, there was an additional 5$50+ charge to again run down the pipe with a disk in the machine. FYI, we only found two small pieces of tile - each maybe one-quarter of a standard back splash tile square. It all just felt too much like a used car lot. Got what we paid for, but I didn't like the feeling of being played to get a few more bucks out of us. And, I don't remember the reason, but they couldn't guarantee their work, so if they had to come out again it would be another $300+. It's been a year and the stool hasn't backed up again. Things are running fine down the drain. It's all good.
Description of Work: We had work done remodeling a bath and the downstairs stool would overflow. We had the plumber who did the original work out to check and he could find nothing. There was talk there might be a blockage. The plumber mentioned he thought he saw a chunk of tile down the open soil pipe. But when he went to set the stool it wasn't there. I wondered if it had gone down the pipe and blocked things. I called the RotoRooter people. They sent out a man with the device.

Our price included snaking the line and running the video camera. The member had a full 6 month warranty on our work preformed. There is an additional $50 charge for a copy of a DVD due to time involved. It seems like there is no issue after 15 months the line has not backed up again as the member states. If there was an issue at time of service last year we do apoligize, and if we would have known there was an issue with our Tech making a mess we would gladly came back out to clean up.

The obstruction is still in place, Roto-rooter did not fix anything, and actually made things worse. My house is very old, and the outside plumbing is from the 1930s and the inside is newer PVC, it makes things more difficult, but an experienced plumber should have been able to complete the job. Roto did verify that the main line is clear of obstruction from my outside breakout to the street. Other than a small break in the tile that is letting in some dirt it is clean. So our obstruction was inside the house or right outside. Once the first guy run his snake down the toilet drain and thought he had cleared it the toilets flushed normally. Unfortunately we had drained all the lines using another breakout in the basement, that meant that all the main lines took awhile to fill with water. After a load of laundry, a shower or two the toilet he had removed began to leak water from it's base. When he removed the toilet to clear the line I specifically asked him if he was going to put a new wax ring down since the original one pulled in two, he agreed that it was needed. Roto sent out another guy that afternoon, and worked on it for an hour. We had drained the main lines again so he also thought he had cleared the obstruction. The next day we got the same thing. That evening I went ahead and pulled the toilet up, they had not replaced the wax ring. I had bought a 50' snake and tried to clear it myself, after an hour or so of that, there were a few times that I felt resistance and then push through that. Installed the toilet with a new wax ring and ran some water. After awhile the tub backed up, but the toilet no longer leaked from around the base. I agree with one of the previous posters that this is basically a way to sell you on a major expensive repair. The field supervisor pushed hard to dig up the main line where there was dirt coming through, where the problem was not at. The field supervisor was pushy and condescending to my wife, trying to get her to sign off on the major repair. I called him yesterday to tell him that they had not fixed the problem, and he said that we got a follow up visit and his attitude was we were lucky to get even that. So the 6 month guarantee is not worth the paper it is printed on. I did learn some things from the first guy they sent out, and now we have a good idea where the blockage is. A typical line blockage they might be good with, but the hard sell on a $3900 job that was not part of the problem really irritated me.
Description of Work: Our main line sewer was plugged up, called a few plumbers and they recommended that we use a service that specialized in cleaning out the lines as they use specific equipment. Called Roto-rooter and they came the next morning, I had already located and dug up the outside breakout so the guy was able to get right to it. He ran his big snake all the way from there out to the street without hitting any obstructions. We then moved inside to the toilet directly over the main line, removed the toilet and he used his smaller snake on that drain. He felt a few obstructions, thought that he had cleared them out and put it all back together. It appeared to fix the problem, I had to go to work so I left him there, his field supervisor was going to stop by and run a camera down my main line to the street.

I was pleased at first but in the end I realized it was more a setup of a big sale rather than great customer service. I have used this company in the past to clean out my sewer but now that I had another company come out and replace everything at half the cost, I probably won't call them again.
Description of Work: We had our sewer line cleaned with a snake They weren't able to clean out the area that was causing trouble. They concluded the pipe had broke in that area and needed replaced. Gave me a quote of tearing up my basement floor and replacing the outside sewer line (cleanout plus 10ft) for 4000.00! I knew that was extremely overpriced. Towards the end when I stated I needed to get a few estimates I felt I was being sold a used car. There was a couple uncomfortable minutes of pressure selling. Also they weren't able to clean the pipe out that I had hired them to do in the first place, so I feel I should have at least had a half price discount.
