Although they were very kind and willing to please, they popped out my windows to do the seals and after two months I noticed that two seals were broken. Although they are old windows, they were not like that before they worked on them. I had asked them if they really needed to take the windows out and they said that it helped to get everything out of the way. That was their way of doing things, but I'm not sure that it needed to be done like that. There were a total of seven windows and on two of them I am getting condensation. I don't think that is one of their specialties. They also replaced some siding for me and did a pretty good job. The price was competitive. I never mentioned it to them because several months had passed and I didn't think I had any recourse. They were always here when they said they would be here. They were very nice to deal with. I would use them again for certain things.
Description of Work: I used House Doctors Handyman Services to replace rotting window seals.

The first handyman was able to carry the air conditioner from the basement to the room, but he was unable to install the air conditioner in the window. He was concerned that the air conditioner would not be secure and that it might fall out on the roof. He said he might be able to complete the job if he could find instructions. When he left, he did not replace the screen in the window, so we were unable to open the window. I contacted the company immediately and asked that the screen be replaced so I could open the window. Two days later, a different handyman arrived to replace the screen. He looked at the air conditioner sitting on the floor and recognized that he could probably install it into the window with little difficulty. He accomplished this task but stated that it was not possible to anchor the top of the air conditioner to the window because the window was vinyl. He warned us that there was the possibility that if the window were opened completely, the unit could fall out. I was grateful that he was able to complete the job. The room gets unbearably hot due to the vinyl siding and the absence of any trees in the yard (the lunch-box effect).
Description of Work: We needed a small accordion-style air conditioner installed in a second story window.

The siding repair was under $500 and the dry rot repair was under $3000. Overall, I thought they did a good job. They were willing to make sure the job was how I wanted it. I think their prices are competitive. They were here when they said they would be. It was nice to work with them. I would hire them again for small repairs.
Description of Work: I used them for wood siding repair. I also used them for dry rot window repairs.

First tech was late. He seemed very unsure of himself and everytime I looked in on him to see how the job was progressing, the tech was on the phone with his boss getting "how to" instructions. When the boss finally arrived, he opened the roof, assessed the damage, replaced the shingles, caulked the upstairs bathroom window. He also, at the same time, was still instructing the first tech about finishing the chimney. When it came time to present the bill, the time billed was longer than they were on the job. I was told it was "material time." The supervisor billed for only one hour of his time to compensate for the length of time the job took. They didn't clean their mess, close the window they were using for egress to the roof.
Description of Work: Cleaned gutters, replaced flashing around chimney, uncovered a low spot on the roof to assess leak, pulled down closet ceiling to assess leak.

HERE WAS THE CUSTOMERS REQUEST PER OUR ONLINE SERVICE REQUEST: "CEILINGS X 3 EACH MEASURES AROUND 3-4', NEEDS SANDED AND TEXTURED. DRYWALL REPAIR IN BATHROOM, MEASURES AROUND 10 X 1.5'. FLASHING MISSING ON ROOF. ONE SECTION OF ROOF NEEDS REPAIRED -MEASURES AROUND 5 X 5'. BEDROOM FLOOR NEEDS REBUILT/REPAIRED WHICH ALSO INCLUDES CLOSET FLOOR WHICH IS SINKING DUE TO WATER DAMAGE (FROM ROOF)." I EXPLAINED THAT WE NEED TO ADDRESS THE ROOF LEAK FIRST AND THAT DEPENDING ON THE EXTENT OF DAMAGE THAT IT COULD BE AROUND 8 MAN HOURS PLUS MATERIALS, WHICH SHE AGREED AND AUTHORIZED PER OUR CONTRACT. WE WERE SCHEDULED TO ARRIVE AT 8:30 AM. OUR TECH WAS PICKING UP MATERIALS FOR THE JOB AND WAS CAUGHT IN TRAFFIC. I EXPLAINED THAT HE WAS RUNNING LATE AND WOULD ARRIVE AROUND 9:00. OUR TECH ARRIVED AT 9:15 AND PROCEEDED TO INSPECT THE ROOF. THE FIRST THING HE NOTED WAS THAT THE GUTTERS WERE FILLED TO THE TOP WITH DEBRIS. WE INFORMED THE CUSTOMER AND RECOMMENDED THAT THEY FIRST BE CLEANED AS THIS WAS CAUSING SIGNIFICANT FASCIA AND SOFFIT ROT AS WELL AS CAUSING WATER INFILTRATION AT FOUNDATION, WHICH WAS CONTRIBUTING TO HER FLOOR PROBLEMS IN CLOSET AND BEDROOM. AFTER CLEANING ALL THE GUTTERS, OUR TECH OPENED UP THE BEDROOM CLOSET CEILING (WHICH LITERALLY JUST DISINTEGRATED) TO SEE THE EXTENT OF DAMAGE. UPON REMOVAL, HE WAS OVERTAKEN BY STRONG MILDEW ORDERS. EVERYTHING WAS SOAKING WET AND MOLDED AND THE FLOOR HAD EVEN DISINTEGRATED. WE INFORMED CUSTOMER TO GET A FAN AND START DRYING IT OUT. OUR TECH WENT TO START ON THE CHIMNEY AND FOUND THAT THE PREVIOUS WORKER DID NOT PUT ANY FLASHING AROUND CHIMNEY AND THERE WAS AS SIGNIFICANT GAP BETWEEN DECKING AND CHIMNEY (WHICH WAS THE CAUSE OF THE OTHER LEAK). AT THIS POINT, AFTER TALKING WITH TECH, I WENT OUT TO VIEW WHAT WAS GOING ON AND TALK WITH CUSTOMER. AS IS TURNS OUT, THEY HAD THE GARAGE CONVERTED INTO A BEDROOM AND HAD A FRIEND/NEIGHBOR PUT A NEW ROOF SYSTEM OVER THE EXISTING WHICH WAS IMPROPERLY INSTALLED AND RIDDLED WITH SOFT SPOTS DUE TO WATER INFILTRATION. THEY SAID THE PERSON WAS TO COME BACK AND FINISH THE FLASHING BUT NEVER DID. I PULLED UP SECTION TO SEE WHAT WAS HAPPENING. UNDERNEATH THE WHOLE DECKING WAS WET AND A PREVIOUS REPAIR WAS VISIBLE. I SHOWED THE CUSTOMER. I TOLD THE CUSTOMER THAT THEY NEEDED TO HAVE THE WHOLE ROOF REDONE IF THEY WANTED IT DONE RIGHT. WE PUT A TEMPORARY PATCH UNTIL THE CUSTOMER DECIDED WHAT THEY WANTED TO DO. THE CUSTOMER INFORMED US THEY WERE SELLING AND ASKED ME IF I KNEW IF ANYONE WOULD BE INTERESTED. SHE SAID THEY ONLY WANT WHAT THEY OWED ON THE HOME. WE BILLED FOR A TOTAL OF 7.5 MAN HOURS AND MATERIALS. WE CLEANED UP OUR MESS ON ROOF AND CUSTOMER SAID SHE WOULD SHUT WINDOW AS THIS IS WHERE SHE WAS VIEWING THE ROOF. WE OFFERED TO CLEAN-UP MORE IN BEDROOM, BUT CUSTOMER SAID THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF REST. APPARENTLY OUR REPAIRS HAVE STOPPED THE WATER LEAKS - AS THE CUSTOMER DOES NOT MENTION THAT AFTER 2 MONTHS AND ALL OF THE HEAVY RAIN.

Returned message promptly and scheduled appointment for next day. Arrived on time, assessed situation. Estimate emailed same day and service scheduled promptly. Arrived on time, worked on drywall ceiling repair and garbage disposal at same time. Excellent clean up when finished. That night I ran my dishwasher and had water leaking onto floor and kitchen rug as dishwasher was not draining. Called the next morning and left message. Call back at noon and Todd (owner) and Lynn (service man) were at my house when I returned home from work to apologize and knock out the drain plug in the disposal which had not been done at installation. The next day received an email from Todd (owner) apologizing again and giving me a $75.00 discount on the work done.

They came out two weeks ago and took measurements and checked everything out. We discussed what needed to be done and what I wanted. They gave advice on what would be necessary and answered my questions. They said they would get a detailed estimate out to me, but I have yet to receive anything from them. I spoke with a lady in the office last week who said she was new and had "found" my file. She wondered if I'd ever received an estimate and then said she'd get it right out to me. I still haven't received anything. Very unprofessional. I wouldn't deal with them even if they sent the estimate because I'd be afraid of what might happen.

THE MEMBER WAS CONTACTED BY ME, CHRISTINA, THE NEW OFFICE ASSISTANT ON 8/25/2006. A WRITTEN ESTIMATE WAS SENT THROUGH THE MAIL AND A FOLLOW-UP PHONE CALL WAS MADE ON 9/7/2006. THE MEMBER STATED SHE WAS HAVING ANOTHER ESTIMATE DONE THAT SAME DAY AND I ASKED IF THERE COULD BE A FOLLOW-UP ON 9/11/06. SHE STATED THAT WOULD BE FINE. THE FOLLOW-UP CALL WAS MADE ON 9/11/2006 AT WHICH TIME SHE STATED SHE DID NOT FEEL WELL. I ASKED COULD I FOLLOW-UP AT THE END OF THE WEEK, SHE SAID YES AND THANK YOU. TODAY IS FRIDAY 9/15/06 CALL WAS MADE AND MESSAGE LEFT ON ANSWERING MACHINE. NO RESPONSE AS OF 2:30 PM 9/15/2006. AT NO TIME IN MY CONVERSATIONS WITH THE MEMBER DID SHE SEEM UPSET IN ANY WAY.

WE HAD PREVIOUSLY USED THIS COMPANY, AND WERE VERY HAPPY WITH THE SERVICE. WE WERE SELLING OUR HOUSE, AND NEEDED A PIECE OF SIDING REPLACED. TODD SENT OUT A WORKER TO GET THE PIECE OF SIDING THAT WAS DAMAGED TO COLOR MATCH TO A NEW PIECE. I DID NOT HEAR FROM HIM FOR OVER A WEEK. I MADE CONTACT AGAIN, AND HE ASSURED ME SOMEONE WOULD BE OUT. AGAIN, NO RESPONSE. FINALLY, MY THIRD ATTEMPT TO HAVE SOMEONE COME OUT, AND REPLACE SIDING WORKED. HOWEVER, THEY MUST HAVE LOST MY ORIGINAL PIECE OF SIDING BECAUSE WHEN I CAME HOME ANOTHER PIECE OF SIDING HAD BEEN REMOVED. THEY DID COME BACK NEXT DAY, AND REPLACE SIDING THEY REMOVED, AND INSTALLED NEW PIECE OF SIDING. I WILL NOT USE COMPANY AGAIN.

SPENT ALMOST AN HOUR AND COULD NOT FIND SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. HE RECOMMENDED AN ELECTRICIAN WITH MORE SOPHISTICATED DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS THAT COULD PINPOINT THE PROBLEM IN MINUTES INSTEAD OF PAYING HIM HOURS TO DO SO. EXPERIENCE WAS GREAT. I AM NOT AN EXPERT ON HOME REPAIR, SO I DID NOT REALIZE HOW BAD IT WAS. WE BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS DURING WINDY WEATHER. TODD INSPECTED THE WORK LAST MONTH (NOVEMBER) AND AGREED THAT IT WAS AWFUL. HE HAD TO ORDER NEW SCREEN AND CALLED EARLY IN DECEMBER TO TELL ME THE WRONG SCREEN WAS DELIVERED AND HE WOULD HAVE TO ORDER IT AGAIN. I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING FURTHER FROM HIM, EVEN THOUGH THE NEW SCREEN SHOULD HAVE ARRIVED LAST WEEK. WE HAVE SCREEN FLAPPING IN THE WIND. HE SAID THE WOODEN BOARDS MAY BREAK WHEN THEY REMOVE THEM. I BELIEVE THIS IS MUCH MORE LIKELY NOW THAT THE WEATHER IS VERY COLD AND I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS IS MY RESPONSIBILITY. SO IF HE EVER GETS AROUND TO DOING THE REPAIRS AND THE BOARDS BREAK, I WON'T PAY FOR THEM. THEY HAVE HAD TO COME BACK THREE TIMES TO FIX SHOWER VALVE. EASY REPAIR, BUT FAILING TO CHECK IF IT IS IN FULL WORKING ORDER EACH TIME BEFORE LEAVING THE HOUSE HAS REQUIRED THE EXTRA TRIPS. LEAKING SHOWER WAS STILL LEAKING AFTER FIRST VISIT. ON SECOND VISIT THE LEAK WAS FIXED, BUT THE VALVE WAS ON BACKWARD CAUSING HOT WATER TO COME OUT FIRST, THEN THE COLD WATER AS YOU TURNED THE DIAL. CAME BACK PROMPTLY THE THIRD TIME TO FIX, BUT SHOULD HAVE NEVER TAKEN ALL THE HASSLE. THE COMPANY WAS PROMPT, PUNCTUAL, AND FRIENDLY. THOUGHT THE PRICE WAS HIGH, BUT THAT WAS THE ESTIMATE AND I PICKED THEM SO THAT ISN'T AS MUCH OF AN ISSUE. QUESTIONABLE QUALITY OF WORKMANSHIP. DUE TO THEIR PROFESSIONALISM, I WOULD GIVE THEM ANOTHER TRY.

I WOULD NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY TO DO ANY WORK. HE WAS AN HOUR LATE FOR THE JOB. ALSO, THEY DON''T RETURN CALLS OR STICK BY THEIR WORK.

HE WAS HERE 30-45 MINUTES AND TOLD US THAT OUR INSULATION WAS SHREDDED AND IT SMELLED LIKE URINE DOWN THERE. HE SAID IT WAS A DISGUSTING JOB! WHEN IT WAS WARMER AT THE END OF DECEMBER, WE NOTICED A DECAYING SMELL FROM A VENT DOWN TO THE CRAWL SPACE. I SUSPECT AN ANIMAL MADE A NEST IN THE INSULATION (HENCE THE SHREDDING AND URINE) AND THEN DIED DOWN THERE. I HAVE LEFT MANY MESSAGES FOR TODD TO DISCUSS THE PRICE OF THE BILL IN COMPARISON TO THE AMOUNT OF TIME THE JOB ACTUALLY TOOK. FOR THE MONEY THAT I PAID, I EXPECT MY INSULATION TO BE REPLACED, ESPECIALLY IN LIEU OF THE CONDITION IT WAS IN. HIS ORIGINAL QUOTE WAS FOR $175. HE TOLD ME HE WOULD TAKE OFF AN ADDITIONAL $10. I SAID NO. HE DID IT ANYWAY. I AM STILL TRYING TO GET A HOLD OF HIM, AS I HIRED HIM BECAUSE HE IS A PARISHIONER AT MY CHURCH AND IS SUPPOSED TO BE REPUTABLE.

I WAS PLEASED THAT THEY DID NOT PUSH TO CONTINUE ROOF REPAIR WHICH WAS NOT THEIR MAIN SKILL.
Description of Work: REMOVED AND REPLACED CEILING MATERIALS IN A CLOSET DAMAGED BY A ROOF LEAK. PROVIDED ATTIC ACCESS PANEL IN CLOSET CEILING. ATTEMPTED UNSUCCESSFULLY TO CORRECT ROOF LEAK. AM NOW WORKING WITH A ROOFING CONTRACTOR FOR THAT JOB.

WERE SUPPOSED TO CORRECT DIRECTIONAL OF CUPOLA WEATHERVANE. OWNER CAME OUT TO RECORRECT THIS AFTER THE FIRST ATTEMPT FAILED. HE WAS FRIENDLY AND COOPERATIVE ABOUT IT.
