Work was left incomplete requiring us to both find and pay other contractors to finish what Chris and his crews had started. He ignored our efforts to reconcile, which we found very unprofessional. After months of bringing our renovation project to closure, we took Chris (Fine Lines Painting) to Small Claims Court and we prevailed in the judgment. Two months have now passed and we have not received the court instructed payment. We are now forced to move forward with a Proceedings Supplemental. If you want our opinion - never do business with this guy.
Description of Work: We hired Chris Dongoski (Fine Lines Painting) to manage a home renovation project last year. Significant money was spent before Chris decided to quit without warning.

Work was typically sub-contracted and the tradesmen brought in to perform work were skilled/professional for the most part. The one exception to this was Nacho & Maria, a Latino couple that Chris Dongoski uses for all electrical work, drywall repair, and painting – their work was sloppy and lacked appropriate attention to detail. Our carpets were damaged from paint spillage, live wires were left exposed in the home, and often times work needed to be done twice. As the project progressed to the point where we had paid for 98% of the work within agreed scope, Chris continued to request additional money. Chris made no attempt to clarify these requests, but to the best of our knowledge, the additional money was being requested to compensate for material ordering errors, change requests not processed, and work activities he had billed us for twice. These shortcomings were Chris’ responsibility and we were not comfortable giving him more money when a number of activities that had been started still had not been completed. Within a week, we received an email from Chris stating that he decided to quit, leaving us to pay for completing all unfinished work that we had already paid for once. After we performed a thorough reconciliation of work completed vs. cash paid, we requested reimbursement for the difference. Chris Dongoski has ignored our emails and effectively walked away with over $5000 of our money – professional robbery. If anyone does business with Chris Dongoski, we advise you to only pay him after services are rendered and your expectations have been met. If not, you run the risk of being a victim of this type of fraud as we have – unfortunately we learned the hard way.
Description of Work: We hired Fine Lines Painting & Home Renewal to manage a fairly significant renovation project at our home in Carmel, Indiana. Given the magnitude of work that was scheduled, a number of sizable checks were written to pay for both materials and labor throughout this past summer.

[Member Name Removed], Thank you for bringing this situation to our attention. First and foremost, I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. I thought we had everything cleared up back in October with respect to the balance on the spreadsheet we worked from. We strive and work very hard to ensure our clients receive the highest quality product. I was not aware of the issues you have outlined above. I apologize, but after our reconciliation in October, I did not receive any correspondence from you? Therefore, I am not sure where the disconnect occurred. Obviously you feel I owe you $5000 and I will be happy to pay you this amount contingent on showing me where this error has occurred. I am at a loss at the term "professional robbery". Based upon our conversation back in October, we both agreed we owed each other nothing and we were "all square". Again, please provide the details of where I made the accounting mistake, and I will bring a check to you immediately! Please feel free to reach out to me anytime to discuss.

Chris gave me a next day estimate after Jeff came to our home to see how much work there was. Jeff had a sherwin williams teeshirt on and drove a truck with a paint business name on it that was not "fine lines" which i thought was odd. I asked for the house to be painted by brush. Chris said that some work would be done with a small roller. i was okay with that. Jeff started the caulking and after reading some reviews of Fine Lines, I assumed Jeff was doing the work. Not at all! Chris told me it would take 3 days to complete the paint job.so my husband booked our eaves and gutters To be installed on the fourth day. We told Chris the second day of painting and asked him to please focus on the areas where the gutters were going. I also asked Chris the weekend before his crew started that I needed to wash the lower part of the siding because this new house was very dirty from the rain and contractors. I came home at lunch the first day of painting to find that the crew started painting from the lower part of the house and completely painted over the dirt. I couldn't believe it. I called Chris who said that he's painted over houses that were much dirtier than ours and he has had no problem painting over dirt. apparenty it doesn't matter to Chris what the paint manufacturer recommends about prepping the surface before painting. The house was at least 6 months old with zero landscaping and it had never been cleaned. Additionally, the crew had only used a heavy nap large roller and filled the gap where the drip edge was making it look like gobs of dried thick drops. They also filled the holes in our hardi plank soffit. I think after the second day, we asked that he come to see the kind of work that was done. I pointed out the drips covering the drip edge, the lumpy texture of the siding and especially the trim that, in our opinion should be smooth, and the filled soffit holes. As I described each item, Chris kept saying, "Wow" as if he was shocked at how demanding we were. After that we asked to have the house sprayed. I had heard previously that you get a thin coat when you spray but how much worse could this get? I hoped the spray would cover the texture from the roller on all the trim, which it did not. Chris came to our house the third day and offered me a bottle of wine. Not sure why. Just paint my house the way you said you would. On the forth day my husband got into an argument with Chris on the phone because the gutter installers were here ready to start and the board they attach to still wasn't completely painted one coat. Our gutter contractor told me that after my husband and I went back to work, Chris had his foreman take the phone to the gutter contractor so Chris could talk to him. Chris said that we were so difficult to work with and had high expectations. Chris said he was afraid we would write a bad review about him. Our gutter contractor told Chris that he should do what he promised. After the so-called final walk through, Chris had a mental list and said he would be back MondAy morning so he could see the color variations in the paint. They didn't show up until 2:00 and asked for the less than half full bucket back. I asked for leftover paint since we knew we'd be doing some major touch-ups. Chris also had his crew tape nails to a stick and they were poking the soffit holes to open up the holes. He had a young female walking around the property pointing out to the painters all the mistakes since they were unable to see then on their own. on sept. 8 I text Chris and told him that there are still soffit areas that have paint completely filling the holes. He text back and said, "I will take care of it". He must have meant that he'd take care of it next year because he still hasn't come as of today. Honestly, we don't want him or his crew back on our property. We will never use him or his crew ever again.

We had some water damage that affected more than one room when I initially contacted Fine Lines.i did so for the painting and wallpaper removal aspect. I spoke with them and was told by Chris that they could do more than just painting and wallpaper. They could do drywall and flooring also. He told me that he would stop by for an estimate and a look at the work that needed to be done. Well he phoned prior to the visit to let me know one of the other painters would be coming by. He did and the estimate done. I didn't realize until the day the work was to begin that Chris was a contractor for Fine Lines and others would be doing painting, flooring, drywall and tiling. I feel that things were misrepresented initially. He did not come out and say, I'm a contractor. Dates and times were changed on a weekly basis by Fine Lines. I told Chris initially that my schedule was limited due to working outside my home. The constant changing of dates and times was very annoying and time consuming. The tile was done by a man that didn't show up for 2 days that he was scheduled to work. Both times I was told he was Ill. The third day he asked to show up on a weekend day n would be there only a fee hours. Not so and he admitted to personally attending other activities while he was to be tiling my toilet closet. I was extremely upset especially since it was my day with my family that I gave up for someone with a lack of a work ethic. We were lied to by the contractor or his employee. Things weren't going well. The ceiling was drywalled by Rick who did a great job. The final paint touches were in the kitchen on the ceiling. There are still streaks where the painting wasn't done correctly which we are taking care of ourselves. I wouldn't hire them again nor would I recommend them to anyone.

Response from Fine Lines Painting
I will address one point at a time: 1) Well he phoned prior to the visit to let me know one of the other painters would be coming by. I have a field representative that lives close to her house and that is the main reason he came by (on time) for the estimate. 2) I didn't realize until the day the work was to begin that Chris was a contractor for Fine Lines and others would be doing painting, flooring, drywall and tiling. I feel that things were misrepresented initially. He did not come out & say, I'm a contractor. I am the owner of Fine Lines Painting and coordinate with high quality individuals to use their expertise. I did not misrepresent “initially” (not quite sure what this means??) Not quite sure what her problem is with “contractor”. If [member name removed] would have asked me who would be doing the work, I would have told her. 3) Dates and times were changed on a weekly basis by Fine Lines. I told Chris initially that my schedule was limited due to working outside my home. The constant changing of dates & times was very annoying and time consuming. The only time changes were done because [member name removed] delayed my drywall guy because she thought there was another leak. This put us back 3 days including the painting of the ceiling. We were there every day, on time and even worked when her dogs were in the house alone, which she was not sure of. [member name removed] almost did not want me there because of the dogs, but I assured her all would be well and it was. If the schedule was “annoying”, I think [member name removed] needs to revisit the reasons for any time changes. I am extremely sensitive to the customer’s time. I ask every day what time we can start and what time we need to be done every day. 4) The tile was done by a man that didn't show up for 2 days that he was scheduled to work. Both times I was told he was Ill. The third day he asked to show up on a weekend day n would be there only a fee hours. Not so & he admitted to personally attending other activities while he was to be tiling my toilet closet. I was extremely upset especially since it was my day with my family that I gave up for someone with a lack of a work ethic. We were lied to by the contractor or his employee. Things weren't going well. I found about this issue on our final day via a text message. If [member name removed] would have informed me the day of discovery, I am certain we could have figured something out. I have spoken with my tile guy and told him this was completely unacceptable and I will not tolerate this in the future. 5) The ceiling was drywalled by Rick who did a great job. The final paint touches were in the kitchen on the ceiling. There are still streaks where the painting wasn't done correctly which we are taking care of ourselves. I wouldn't hire them again nor would I recommend them to anyone. Again, this is the first I was informed about streaks on the ceiling. I was never given an opportunity to go back and hit any spots on the ceiling that were missed which is typical of painting with white paint on white ceilings. In conclusion, [member name removed] had no complaints with respect to a quality job other than a “D” rating. She gave me a “C” for price. Does this mean that someone got an “A” for price? Who was that and why did she not hire the “A” price? A “C” for punctuality? Again, my time management skills are stellar. We are always on time and do not leave the project “hanging”. And a “C” for professionalism, please elaborate. Overall I think the pattern that [member name removed] has provided in her review indicates she did not communicate with me very well. From the “contractor” hangup, to the time changes caused by her which I accommodated, to the tile guy which I learned about on the last day via a text, to a few missed spots on the ceiling that I was never given an opportunity to easily remedy.

They were very quick to respond, Chris broke things out individually so it was easy to decide what to do now and what to save for later.. They advised on paint colors, helping match to previous color and to inside colors as well. They got the entire exterior done in two days, 270 ft around, no spills or overspray, great touch around the windows. Very neat and thoroughly professional. Response time was very good, they get right to work on time each day. Now they have stripped some wallpaper, including one incredibly difficult room, patched up a few nail holes, and are ready to paint the inside. They are great guys, I was referred to them so I did not get other quotes this time, but pricing was as good as anything I had seen here or on Groupon ads, etc. I could not be more pleased.

I was in need of a full exterior paint job including rotten boards that needed replacing. I talked with several contractors, received several bids, and ultimately decided to use Fine Lines Painting. Jeff with Fine Lines came out and thoroughly looked at what I wanted done. Fortunately he was able to point out other areas that would be trouble in the future. I was very impressed with his level of professionalism and comfort of knowing he was looking out for my best interest and not just another painter that would potentially cut corners and hurry through my project. I received a quote from Fine Lines the next day. The quote was very detailed and all items were broken out so I could choose to eliminate if I needed to. The project was scheduled and the Fine Lines crew was on time as planned. They started with a thorough chemical clean and light power-wash. Two days later they came back and started the painting process. They used the most expensive Porter Permanizer paint for my home. Fine Lines informed me up front that they prefer to use this product because of it’s ability to ensure that the job will last longer than a less expensive one. I did my own research and I know they were being truthful about that. The paint process took 3 full days to complete which is exactly what I was quoted. Jeff with Fine Lines and I walked around our house after completion and pointed out all of the things that we had originally discussed to re-ensure they completed what I expected. Ultimately I am extremely pleased with my decision to hire Fine Lines Painting. I was skeptical and somewhat fearful in choosing a company to paint the exterior of my home, but Fine Lines not only delivered a solid product, but also made the process stress free.

Everything went great! We were getting negative feedback about the condition of the interior from realtors. So, we called several Angie's List recommended painters. Who knew there were so many? We kept hearing that the job would require extensive drywall repairs before painting could commence. Jeff from Fine Lines Painting came out, looked over the job, took detailed notes and later that day he emailed us a quote that itemized everything for us. While other contractors scared us off due to the "extensive" drywall repairs, Jeff assured us that it wasn't a big deal, and he'd take care of any drywall issues in the course of prepping for the painting. In the end, the two man crew at Fine Lines did end up making some drywall repairs, they straightened out some rough miter joints at the door casings, caulked, even got a closet door to close when it hadn't for years. They painted dark doors and pine casings and base molding trim white. Fine Lines painted a fuchsia and black bedroom tan -- and it was flawless. They also repaired some trim that was not looking so great. We are thrilled with the results! I'd highly recommend Fine Lines Painting. We thank them for helping us get an offer on our home! :)
Description of Work: Installed baseboard, refined interior trim (stained trim where miter joints were sloppy or not meeting) and painted interior trim, door casings, crown molding. Stained doors were painted white, repainted fuchsia and black bedroom to tan, repaired drywall and painted other walls to match.

Chris with Fine Lines met with me to look at my project. He was on time for the quote and thoroughly looked at what I wanted done. He even pointed out things that I had not noticed. I received a quote within one day! All of the items were broken out so I could not only understand what would be done, but I could also eliminate or add anything very easily. The project was scheduled and Fine Lines was right on time for the project start and finished when they had indicated. The project went very well and genuinely exceeded my expectations. The "cut lines" or "edging" was perfect and they did it all by hand with no tape! They even vacuumed all of my floors after the project was complete. I would highly recommend Fine Lines to anyone needing a solid, hi-quality paint job. Chris and his crew did an outstanding job with my project and delivered a stress free result.

I was on a website, filling out a questionnaire and then I got a call from them. He came out on the Monday and we walked around my property and he took measurements. We talked about an hour. Then he left and said that they would mail me a written bid and then I could call them if I had any questions. I haven't got that yet. He phoned me on Thursday and said that they were still waiting to get some additional information regarding the lead abatement. As soon as they have that information, then they would finish up the bid and send it to me. I felt that they were extremely responsive. I wasn't quite ready for that quick response, so I should get my ducks in a row and make sure what I want them to do. I don't know yet if I'm going to use them. Because of the age of the house I have a lot of things to consider. But I am not going to rule him out yet.

He did a wonderful job. I talked to 3 companies for estimates before having this done. He impressed me with his knowledge, his eye for color and manner. He is polite, clean and neat. He cleaned up everynight and when the job was completed. He did everything he said he would do. I would definitely use him again and would reccomend him to anyone who wants a good job done.
Description of Work: Chris painted 2 Bathrooms, 1 Master Bedroom, 1 Hallway and 1 Office. He painted all the woodwork, baseboards and doors, including 8 doors in the hallway and 3 in the MB. He prepped everything and used 2 coats of paint on everything. He moved all the furniture out and put it all back. He furnished all the materials including the paint.
