INTERIOR/EXTERIOR PAINTING. CERTIFIED ENGINEERS/ASSISTS WITH DEVELOP STANDARDS FOR PAINTS. PAINTING DONE BY HAND. 2 MAN SHOP
Herb's price was cheaper than others and I was interested in getting a good job done with high quality paint so I wouldn't have to paint again, especially the decks. He told a good story and I went with him. They did a decent job scraping the deck railings but not the floorboards and on the house trim they just sprayed a little bleach on the trim to supposedly clear off any mold before they started painting. It did take longer than expected, but he did finish the job. But now 2 years later the decks all need to be repainted as much of it has chipped off since they didn't powerwash or scrape. He used some decent deck paint from Home Depot, but it wasn't anything special. The main problem he caused was filing a rather dubious injury claim against my homeowners insurance who ended up settling with him. I am now at risk of losing my homeowners insurance if I file another claim. You will find that he advertises himself as a personal injury investigator and clearly knows what to do to try to get money out of the legal system. So be very careful about letting him on your property.
Description of Work: Contracted Herb Weller to paint exterior trim of our home and 3 decks. He was to clean and scrape where needed and use very high quality paint that should last a very long time.

Herb gave all the details about how he would wash, scrape, prime and paint our house. According to him he was the most thorough and knowledgable painter in the state. He promised to scrape the old paint off, wash and prep the surface, then prime and finish with a 2 coat finish. He failed in all areas. He showed up on day 1 and only worked 2 hours, and was sporadic over the next 3 weeks not showing up everyday and only working 2-3 hours a day. We had to constantly keep tabs on him to get what little work he did done. After painting about 20% of our house he announced via email he was done for the year and would " be happy" to finish it next spring. When spring came he said he couldn't finish the job because of health issues. He promised his job would last 35 yrs, the little he painted is already coming off and it's been less than a year. He painted our garage doors shut. After further inspection he did not scrape any part of the house, did not wash any part of the house, did not prime the house, and did not apply 2 coats to any part of the house that he said was complete. He promised a crew would be there to paint - he was the lone person to show up. We had to hire a new contractor to fix and redo everything Herb did because he did such a poor job. He claims he was unable to finish or meet in person because he had health issues, but he still advertises as the only true contractor in IN that can offer a 35 yr semi-permanent paint job, he is a scam artist.

We had a couple of quotes from different painters and decided Herb would be the painter for us. We told him we would be getting possession of our home and would like for him to start as soon as possible. He agreed upon this and said it would take him 2 weeks to do so. within the 2 weeks a few things changed and we had workers coming in to refinish our hardwood floors and to lay tile in our dining room. We made Herb aware that this would be happening and he said that was fine he had other areas of the house to work. We had Herb write up a contract a few days into the initial start of the job. We were hurrying the process along so we didn't do a contract prior to the beginning of the job. So the "email" he sent me stated all the work that would be completed that we had agreed upon. I asked for a letterhead official contract but in return got just an email. The contract stated we would pay for materials upfront, which we did. Pay an installment of $3500 when the job was half-way completed, then the rest of the agreed upon amount at the completion of the job. Well at the 1 week mark he offered to discount the final cost and prepay him the whole installment, which we were hesitant about and did not do. Then at the 2 week mark he wanted us to pay him all but $500, which we were also hesitant about and did not do. So the next day he met us at the house and demanded he needed more money to pay his workers. We did not want to do so because the "job" was not completed. There were several walls that they had to repair that never got sanded down good and they continued to paint. Several rooms needed an extra coat of paint and also all of the trim needed an extra coat of paint. The garage was supposed to get painted along with epoxy to the floor and the railing in the garage, which never got painted and he said when the carpet layers were done in the garage he would do it. We had pavers on the front porch that they were going to repair that didn't get touched. The basement ceiling had a black mark from condensation from the duck work that he was supposed to cut out the dry wall repair the duct work and replace drywall. Instead they made holes in the ceiling "blew foam in" repaired the holes and painted over it. This was not what was agreed upon. The basement had several spots that were not even touched and again several areas of the basement needed a second coat of paint. We have a granite countertop island and they had all of their supplies, open paint cans and all, directly on the countertop. I had some hand towels in the bathroom and kitchen that were used to "clean up" or lay their brushes on. They would wash their paint brushes out directly in our sink instead of maybe the outside water spout. So when we met him to go over the work he had done and that we were not satisfied he stated after the carpet layers were done he would do the "touch up" work. We felt it was more than touch up. Overall we feel like they were trying to rush the job and meet their 2 week deadline instead of asking for more time and doing the job right the first time. There were runs in the paint, sanding that did not get done prior to the final coat of paint. We just feel they wanted to be done with the job. Needless to say the job did not get done.

He came to my home and said that he would charge $1500 to paint my home because it was in the fall and that he would have it done by the winter. He did not come right away, but when he did, he put some primer on my garage an no where else and he did not return. I called him to find out what was going to happen (if he was going to come out and finish this job) and he told me that he would come back. He finally did come back with two other men and put on more primer (on only a few parts of the home) and left. I didn't hear back from him, so I called him and he told me he would be out in the Spring. I finally called him in February (after hearing some negative comments about his company from a reputable roofing provider) to tell him that I didn't want him to finish the work and that I wanted my money back. Based on this experience, most of what I have heard about his company from others seems to be well founded. Please look out for him because he operates under different companies.
Description of Work: Do not hire this man! He was hired to paint the outside of my home. This has been absolutely the worst service provider experience of my life! I have taken this man to court and was told that he has a history of dishonest dealings. The BBB also has a record of poor business practices as well on this company. He still has never refunded my money to this day.

Was supposed to work on Sat and Sun. Called Sat. and said he would not be here until Sunday after we changed plans for him to be here. Sloppy unprofessional and DISHONEST! HE left fuzz in my walls from his cheap rollers, left big missed spots, BURGUNDY paint on the baseboards and the carpet, left outlet covers on the walls and painted over them, drips, terrible sloppy job along the ceiling..all in all a disgusting show of workmanship. I called the next day and told him I would not hire him for further jobs and wanted him to come back and fix his mess. He never called back or showed and immediately cashed our check. He said he would call me that night to set up an appointment time to fix his mistakes...of course he never did! We had to pay someone else to fix his mess!
