Mark came out and reviewed what the roofer had done. He explained what could be improved in detail and later sent me a quote. After I accepted the quote, he scheduled his crew to come out. The installers arrived on time and Cameron, the Foreman, explained what they were going to do. They went over the house in great detail, reinstalling the lightning rods, improving wire management and tying in components that were missed. The whole job took over 4 hours and I was very impressed with how thorough they were. I feel much better about the lightning protection safety, now that certified technicians have gone over it. I would definitely use this company again

Their were no concerns or difficulties from start to finish and we are very pleased with the installation.
Description of Work: After having two homes on the street of our subdivision struck by lightning in the past two years, we decided to have lightning rods installed on our roof as well as supplementary surge protection. We had no idea who to contact, so we called ASHPAUGH ELECTRIC (Another Angie's List Recommendation) and they suggested we call Capitol Lightning Protection. A few days after our call, Mark Benham came by our home to inspect our home, and that afternoon we had a estimate e-mailed to us. After receiving our Homeowners Association approval, we notified CLP that we were accepting their estimate, and they began work within the week.

Originally I considered making this a Do-It-Yourself project but am glad I hired Capitol Lightning instead. The installers do this work everyday and know how to mount the air terminals and conducting wires so the system is the least visible on the house. I also didn't have to risk falling off the roof!. Now when thunderstorms roll through the area, I feel more confident that the house won't get struck by lightning. If the house were to take a direct hit, the electrical charge would be directed safely to the ground. I no longer worry about an attic fire or blown out appliances from a power surge. Given how many house fires are caused by lightning, the cost of the system is well worth it! The peace of mind and safety of my family is an added bonus!
Description of Work: After having lighting strike a tree next to my house and seeing the damage it did to the neighbor's house, I decided it would be a good investment for peace of mind to install a lightning protection system. This is not a simple installation. A lightning protection system is a sophisticated network that incorporates air terminals, current conductors (wires), bonding conductors, and ground electrodes. Each property is different and requires a custom plan. Capitol Lightning developed a plan in compliance with the UL 96A lightning protection standard. For my particular house (6,000 sq ft) it required 12 air terminals and 7 grounding rounds (10 feet deep). They also bonded to the vertical metal objects on the roof as well as the air conditioners and gas meter on the ground. Since this system was added after construction, all of the wires are outside on the roof or travel down the sides of the house. The installers did a great job mounting the wires (32-strand copper conductors) to the back facing side of the roof. It is surprising how little of the actual system is visible from the front of the house. The shinny copper wires quickly darken via oxidation and tend to blend into the background.
