We are a small store employing 14 individuals. We offer sub-contracting services to run low voltage wiring during construction of homes and businesses and for retro-fits.
Description of Work: The installed a flat screen TV and hooked into an existing system. The unit was more expensive than what you would pay at a chain store. They came out timely and installed the TV and made some much needed improvements. They made several trips back to get it right without charging us for the addtional hardware needed to correct the problem. It took them most of the summer to get it working 100% correct, but they had a lot of existing components they had to deal with, and I felt they eventually did the right thing.

I was a little disappointed by Risley's work at my home. I contacted them because I expected a high-quality job and I didn't mind paying extra for it. I even thought that hiring Risley's to do Cable TV wiring that I thought was beyond what the Cable company would normally perform was perhaps overkill, but I wanted the work done right. I should have just paid the Cable company to do custom work. At least they would have had an incentive to make sure my picture quality was good. Risley's packed up after the job and informed me that due to the excessive amount of wiring and number of jacks my signal was degraded following their work. Indeed, it was AWFUL. They suggested I have the Cable company install a signal booster. I couldn't even watch my 50-inch plasma in my nice finished basement because the picture was so snowy. This was the main reason I hired Risley's: to perform the intricate wiring necessary to install a TV in the basement because I assumed cable TV would be sloppy. It was very frustrating. When the cable people deliver and install a new cable box on the new basement tv, I showed them the picture and asked them what they could do. They immediately pulled the the wall outlet Risley's installed. The cable guy said he could tell just by looking at it that the connection was loose. He tightened it with a small wrench and -- just like that -- the picture turned PERFECT. Risley's blamed the poor picture on the cable tv signal and the "excess wiring" instead of simply properly tightening the fittings they installed. The cable guys inspected the other outlets Risley's installed -- also exhibiting degraded quality -- and found they were loose, too. About a month later, I had to go into Risley's showroom on a different matter. I casually told one of sales people I know who work there about my experience. I told him I was surprised at the lack of attention to detail since my previous experiences with Risley's were positive. He insisted I tell the owner about it, and before I knew it he had summoned him to the front. You would think I awoke the owner from a nap or something. He listened intently as I describe the experience. I did not ask for any type of monetary consideration or anything: just gave him a summary of the situation. He did not say "hmm, I'm sorry about that," "thanks for bringing this to my attention," or any other statement that would indicate he had any experience or training in customer service. I really thought I was inconveniencing him in some way. A small business owner myself, I like to "shop local" when I can. But should I ever need work like this again, I will first confirm the cable TV company cannot do it. Then I will contact a national company.
