Very good. We had a problem they could not figure out. They replaced the whole unit at no charge. I was happy I got a good price. They worked hard.

A/C compressor did not start on first hot day of season. Service tech arrived within 3 hr. of my call, accurately diagnosed the problem from symptoms described, and effected a repair within 30 minutes. He stayed to ensure the compressor was running properly, and explained what he was doing as he worked. I was only charged for the service call, as parts replacement was not required.

The owner/manager, Mark S., collected nearly $250 from me and my warranty company for diagnosing that my furnace had a leak and needed to be replaced; something we already told them (my husband is an engineer); the person making the diagnosis was there for less than 1/2 hour; I think the charge for this was outrageous. Once my warranty company approved the replacement of the unit and sent it to him, he called to tell me (not ask me) the appointment time for installing the new furnace provided by my warranty company, was rude when I asked him about my options for the times he could come out, and told me he was keeping the time he gave me, but to call and cancel if it didn't work (in a very rude way, I may add). Then he was to charge $623 for installing the new unit and removing the old ($350), $138 for duct work that may or may not be needed, $55 to dispose the old unit, and $60 for a permit. I scheduled an appointment for this morning, asked him to give me a copy of the permit and warranty for my records, and reminded him of this when I called as soon as they opened at 7:30 this morning to see if it was possible to change the appointment to Monday afternoon since my Mother wished to accompany my dad for his doctor's appointment and would prefer to reschedule (I work so I would not have been there). He said not Monday afternoon, but Monday morning; I needed time to check with my Mom so I said I would call back shortly and to please not cancel the appointment; I called back within 10 minutes and asked them to keep the appointment this morning, that my Mom would stay home for them and to please bring the warranty and permit papers. The owner/manager, Mark S., cancelled the appointment, said very rudely he will not come back and he will send my furnace unit back to my warranty company because I was too difficult to schedule for. I asked him what he meant as the only other appointment I changed was the first one he called and gave me an arbitrary time and date for him to come out 2 weeks ago that I told him I could not keep as I didn't know what my schedule would be when he first called 2 weeks ago. I also let him know I had a witness in my department who could verify that not only did I not cancel this morning's appointment but that I specifically asked not to cancel and I would call back shortly; I called within 10 minutes and told him to keep the appointment. I asked him what was difficult about this, and he said he didn't know what was wrong with me, what was going on in my personal life, and tried his best to make it sound like I was at fault because he is cancelling the appointment. I suspect strongly that he never obtained a permit, had no intention of obtaining the permit, got bent out of shape because I asked for a copy of the permit and warranty, and that he may be charging all of his customers for permit that he doesn't obtain. I can't verify this, but there is no other logical explanation as to what transpired, other than the guy has a screw or two loose. He was rude, discourteous, condescending, and overall, just mean. I used him several years ago and had a similar experience with his personality. In short I find him to be not at all trust worthy, and given that I work in the medical field, I think I can say with some competency that he has psychological issues, and most likely some serious moral and ethical issues as well. No one deserves to be treated the way he has treated me. My advise to to others is to be very careful of any extra charges Rays tacks on if you still want to use them, and if he does charge you for permits, please ask for a copy to verify that he is indeed getting the permits and that you are not being charged for and paying for services you are not receiving.

Response from Rays Heating and Air Conditioning
This is how the real story goes… Ray’s Heating & Air Conditioning found the furnace located at 2444 Lakeridge Dr, Newburgh Indiana on 5/20/14 to have a secondary heat exchanger cracked. We were called originally to the house for a home warranty service call in which we diagnosed a cracked drain trap. Ray’s Heating and Air Conditioning’s standard operating procedure is to lock off the gas line to the furnace as to disable the burner section. We did leave the electric on to the furnace as to allow the customer to have air conditioning until the furnace replacement. [Members Name] had been given a new Lennox Furnace but declined the installation of the furnace through the home warranty. Ray’s Heating & Air Conditioning was again called on 9/12/2014 and notified that [members name] would like to have the furnace installed. The home warranty company shipped the Lennox Furnace to Ray’s Heating & Air Conditioning again. We notified [members name] that we received the furnace and would like to schedule the installation. We also notified [members name] they would owe $115.00 for the installation which they disagreed and said they would call the home warranty company. The home warranty company notified Ray’s Heating & Air Conditioning that they would pay [members name] out of pocket expense. Ray’s scheduled the furnace installation for October 13, 2014 originally at 8:00 to 8:30 AM. We then notified [members name] that we had an available opening for October 6, 2014 at 8:00 to 8:30 AM which [members name] accepted. Ray’s Heating and Air Conditioning was called at 7:35 AM on October 6, 2014 and was asked if we could move the installation to the afternoon of October 6, 2014 which was impossible since that time frame was already taken. Ray’s Heating and Air Conditioning was now told to stand down and wait by the customer. [Members Name] then called and said come on they would somehow make provisions. [Members Name] then called back and cancelled. Ray’s then decided to move our labor to another job. [Members Name] called back again and asked for the afternoon. We decided at this point the customer needed to call the home warranty company and ask for another installation company. Ray’s Heating and Air Conditioning was called by the home warranty company and asked to return the furnace to Lennox for them. We did so on October 10, 2014. Mark called [members name] and apologized that we couldn’t perform the installation. He acknowledged that it was okay and he would make other arrangements. Ray’s Heating and Air Conditioning feels at this time we tried to satisfy the Erickson’s but sometime people’s expectations are just not attainable so we had to make a good business decision.

Ninety degrees and humid and the A/C stops working late Friday afternoon. We have a contract with AHS. They opened a work order with Ray's Heating and A/C. After a little while, I called Rays; a young lady took my information and said Mark would call. He did within ten minutes. He said he was on a job but could probably get here in an hour, which he did. It took just 30 minutes for him to identify a faulty switch as the problem. He had one in his truck which he installed. He was finished in a half-hour. You couldn't ask for better service.

On a Friday evening our house had a pretty major gas leak and had to have our gas turned off to the furnace. With the temps in the teens this was a terrible situation. After having one of the worst most unprofessional companies in Muelhbauer come out and tell me "they wouldn't worry about the leak" I knew I had to find someone else. I called up my warranty company and expressed my displeasure with their choice of companies and demanded I get a quality company and get them today. This is where Rays came in for the rescue. Mary was the sweetest lady and the techs were fast, friendly and efficient. Not only did they fix our gas line but they fixed our furnace and did it all with an hour and half on a Friday evening. You can't ask for more from a company than that. Thank you,

After the date the part was supposed to have been in came and went with no word from the company, we spent a very cold weekend in our home with our three children. We contacted the shop on that Monday to find out what was going on and we were told that they didn't know what happened with the part but they were "too busy" to check on it. That was not an acceptable answer for us and when we pressed the matter and requested to speak to the manager to try to resolve the problem, we were informed that we were dealing with the manager and he was the one telling us that they were too busy to help us. We tried to reason with him, making sure he was aware that we have children and we had to have heat for them, and asked if we could have the information of the company and the number so we could check on the shipment ourselves. He refused to give us that information, speaking to us in a rude and very unprofessional manner and again we were told that they were "too busy" to deal with us. I explained the logic of that statement to him, pointing out that the very reason they were so busy was because of customers (LIKE US). The conversation ended with us being unsure if we were going to hear from them again or if we were going to have to contact another company and start over again. If not for my children needing heat, I would have cancelled all dealings with them the second the manager was so rude to us. The next day we received a call from someone at Ray's, informing us that the shipment was lost in transit and the company was getting another part locally and would be there the next day with the part. The service tech that came out was polite and professional, which has always been the case with the techs that have come out to our home to do the work. This was our first experience dealing with the store manager and we have still never heard from him again with an apology for they way he spoke to myself and my husband. The only acknowledgement we ever received about this incident was reflected in no shipping charge and a 50% discount on our bill for that service. That was appreciated but in no way made up for the poor customer service we received from the manager. Our dates and the price of the bill are approximate - our paperwork was misplaced during some paperwork shuffling to a new storage unit. We had to use Ray's once since this incident but we have joined Angie's List to research companies to make sure we find a company with excellent customer service ratings as well as excellent service in the field.
Description of Work: Our furnace stopped putting out heat and the weather took a cool turn. We called for service and they fit us in the next day, told us the part that had to be ordered, the price and the approximate date the part would be in for the install.

They won't come to look at it unless my home warranty agrees to compensate them for it. I think my home warranty must have called them last week and I never heard back from them. I called my home warranty again today and they said that they just no longer are participating. I am not sure what the deal is. Basically they have abandoned me after they did whatever they did to my fan which was not the problem when they came to my house. There was never a problem with my fan. I hardly ever run the fan. They were the ones who turned in the fan on and now it won't turn off. They are not coming to look at it.
Description of Work: I used Ray's Heating & Air because it was part of my home warranty. They have come to my home multiple times. I am not too thrilled with them. Basically, they had to come several times because they didn't have the part in but the biggest problem is that after they fixed the air conditioner that wasn't working, the fan in our house is running continuously 24/7. The last time they came out was April 2nd.

This is a tough situation to explain-but this is why we are not going back to this home warranty customer's home. We were called for a no cool on an upstairs unit on March 15, 2012. The customer was told the fee was due and we would need to collect it during our call. It is the responsibility of the homeowner to pay the service fee set by their agreement with the home warranty company when we arrive. The customer didn't pay the fee but we continued to work with the home warranty company and the home warranty company ships us the part needed to make the repair. It so happened the homeowner was going on vacation and the coil was not received before they left. I (the president of Ray's Heating & Air) took it upon myself to schedule a call the morning of the customer's return so they would not be without cooling for the upstairs of their home. I even sent an invoice for the amount due ($50.00) to the customer so there would be no questions about the monies due. We arrived as scheduled and did the work but the client refused to pay because of different reasons! So I again called her the next day but she couldn't talk to me because she was napping. Then I called again and was told the home warranty company said they were going to pay or she would. I was told I would get my money and I did. On April 5th, she called and paid by credit card. The point being the $50.00 was much too difficult to collect. Then she called and was having an issue with the air conditioning again. I spoke with her and explained she needed to call her home warranty company to report the problem. She refused! She then spoke to a second owner of our business who also did his best to explain it is the policy of the home warranty company to dispatch all calls and all she had to do was place a call to them. As you can imagine by this time I made the decision that Ray's was not going back to this house even if requested by the home warranty. The office had spoken to this customer at least 15 times over the previous repair and now she was refusing to listen to me. When the dispatch was received from the home warranty company I simply refused it. The home warranty company has other HVAC dealers and would send another company. Ray's Heating and Air takes excellent care of our customers! I'm very sorry I was not able to change the rules of the home warranty company for her but I only work for them when calls are dispatched. In this case Ray's Heating and Air is the middle man and that is a difficult situation to be in when everyone isn't willing to follow the rules. Ray's is still doing work for the home warranty company but would refuse to work for this customer as we tried to do our best in explaining a simple phone call by her was all that was needed but she refused to listen!

I would not recommend this company to anyone. They may be cheaper than their competitor, but they evidently are not as qualified. I hope American Standard (which is the model) looks into this because they are certainly giving their product a bad reputaion.
Description of Work: I have had ongoing issues with this company. I had a new a/c, heat pump unit installed in 2005. Since that time the heater blower motor went out, the control board went out and now the air compressor is out. The person I spoke with on the phone was extremely rude and unhelpful to me. Other A/c contractors have come to my home and stated that it seems to be an installation issue, but Ray's will not agree to help in anyway pay for the repair even though one of their own technicians even stated that the unit looks to have been installed in a hurry and not correctly. So here I am 5 years later and 2 months after my warranty buying a whole new outdoor unit. When my blower motor went out was in 2009 on a Friday. I was told the repair could wait until Monday. It was the middle of winter and when I came home the whole house smelled like something was burning. So I called and we went all night with no heat. I was charged after-hours fees because they came on Saturday. I did not pay them because it should have been fixed on Friday when the gentleman came to my home. Also in 2009 the control board went out and the technicians came to my home 4 times to repair my issue before finally figuring out what the problem was. They then sent me a bill for 4 labor calls, emergency after hours charges, and the cost of refrigerant that kept leaking out because they did not fix it properly. I paid the portion of the bill I felt was fair and sent it in. This occured in the summer and my daughter had just had an operation and was in 2 casts at the time and it was very warm outside. Now this year, the compressor has went out and I am told by Ray's that it's not their problem because it's not their home and that I can take my business down the road, which is exactly what I am going to do. I was also told that evidently their men are not qualifed to handle my service needs (which I found amusing since they are a heating and air company and the ones who installed the unit). I tried to explain to the gentleman that my daughter had been in Riley hospital this last year having an operation on her kidneys and due to the medical expenses we were forced to file bankruptcy and did not have the funds to put a whole new unit in or replace the part which would cost 1700.00. He was very uncaring and treated me like I was just a paycheck. I know another couple who is also having issues with their unit and surprisingly they are also Ray's customers.

On June 14, 2011 this client filed a complaint with The Better Business Bureau concerning this same issue. On July 7, 2011 Ray's was notified that we had made a good faith effort in an attempt to resolve this issue, therefore the Better Business Bureau closed the case. Ray's Heating and Air Conditioning is very proud of the fact that we have been voted Platinum winner for the BEST AIR CONDITIONING/HEATING SERVICE by the Evansville Courier & Press Readers' Choice Award from 2006 to current. They sent a service man out. The roads were somewhat icy on the day he came out. He checked out our furnace and determined that the furnace motor was damaged. He said it was due to the fact that we had a faulty circuit board. He said he could install a new motor that he had in his truck and make the fan run constantly. He called me the next day and told me how much the circuit board would cost and also said when he could install that. He said he would call me back the next day, but he did not do it. I spoke to his boss and told him that the technician had promised to call to let me know the cost of the circuit board. He said if it would be too expensive then we might as well get a new furnace. The boss asked me why I was so grouchy. I told him what my problems were and that I was yet to get the information I was seeking. He said since the roads were slick they would not be able to come out for the next few days. He just said they would not be able to come. I think they first came out on December 30. They completed the repair only by January 3. We got poor service and were spoken to rudely. It was as if our business meant nothing to them. I think their price was very high as well. We had major problems with Rays Heating & Cooling.

New system runs great and keeps the house comfortable
Description of Work: The compressor on our Air Conditioner went out and after having a hard time working with anyone up here, I contacted Ray's after driving past their store on my way to the bank from work. They agreed to drive to Mount Carmel to take a look at my situation. Jason was prompt and professional and helped me design a system that was best for my house as well as would save me money in the long run. Jason also helped come up with a solution to fix a problematic bedroom that barely got any air...now it's one of the most comfortable rooms in the house. The two installers arrived on time and we're very professional as well.
