A return trip was necessary to repair an additional problem that surfaced about a week later. Again, the technician and staff were very helpful.

Description of Work: Air Conditioning unit was not operating properly so I used Angie's list to search for a repair person. They had the most reports with the highest grade so I contacted this company. They were able to come that morning. The repair person wore protective covering on his shoes. He performed an examination of the inside unit before looking at the A/C unit outside. This was $223.00 Also had an electrical issue with a circuit that kept tripping. Repair person was very professional. It took a checking a few different things but the repair was made. He was very helpful. This was $184.00 During a period of heavy rains and flooding I began to notice that my sump pump was not kicking on. They sent a plumber out to check and my crawl space was full of water. He got the pump working and said he would come back when the water was gone. I was not charged at this point. The company called me back less than a week later to check the status. When the same technician returned he determined the sump pump needed to be replaced. He was also very professional. This cost was $434.00.

Description of Work: My home has a fairly new, top-of-the-line Carrier Infinity HVAC system. The original dealer that installed it obviously did not know what they were doing in terms of proper installation or configuration. There were times the heat would not turn on. I had to manually turn off the system at least once a month in order to "reset" it. Repeated visits by the original installer (a company well known for installing HVACs in volume in big subdivisions) could not figure out the problem. Once it was evident that the company was not going to fix the problem, I asked around to friends and coworkers. Many of them had opinions one way or the other about J E Shekell. Most of them said something to the effect that "they are good, but they are expensive." A few people told me they had negative experiences with them. I chose to telephone them, explained the situation. I told them I was contacting them because I needed expert help with the Carrier Infinity System. They told me they had several service techs who were specially trained in the system. It turned out my unit had a factory defect issue that was well known to the service person. The other company was clueless about it. After a main logic board was replaced, the Shekell rep also showed me several shoddy venting and wiring issues that the other company performed. Those matters were corrected quickly. He also showed me features and instructions pertaining to the Infinity System that I was not aware of. When I got my bill, it was about $200 higher than I expected. I called and talked to the service manager and informed him of this. He said he'd call me back. He called back and explained all the charges. They adjusted their charges to my satisfaction. The unit has performed flawlessly since Shekell fixed it.
