They did a great job. The weather did not cooperate but Mr. Rowe contacted me each time to let me know they could not do it that day. I did not have to wonder if they would be coming. The driveway looks great- it made such an improvement to the property. Probably the best investment i have done.

Made appointment with Mike Rowe, showed up promptly. Gave us an estimate and described exactly what he was going to do. Then I proceeded to get other estimates. Mr Rowe's estimate was not the least expensive but he applied a two step asphault driveway, one was a 2 inch binder and the other layer was a 1 inch and half top layer. This is suppose to be more durable, but does take longer to install because it involves two layers. On the day that his crew came to do the job, Mr. Row and three other workers proceeded to work. I was very impressed that the owner, Mr. Rowe was doing the actual work. His three employees worked tirelessly and were very professional. Two of them had been with Rowe Paving for 20 years and the has been there for 8 years which tells you a lot about Mr. Rowe. The cost was little higher but they also put dirt around the edges of my driveway, this was done after the driveway was laid and it was so nicely done! I could not be more pleased and felt they really took thier time and wanted to make sure I was a satisfied customer, not to mention that it is a nice touch when you can offer the workers some fresh home made cookies. Love my driveway! If you use Mr. Rowe, please be patient with his return call as he is not sitting behind a desk or driving around giving estimates, he is the one doing the physical labor.

They came out the day after we called them, and gave us a very reasonable estimate. They set up a time to do the work that was great for our schedule. They completed the work in two days and did a beautiful job. We were very pleased and would employ them again for future paving projects.

Summary: The original work was done well, but later challenges resulted in a lower grade for this company. The C grade for professionalism is due to poor advice, not poor manners. Original Work: Mike was prompt in all aspects of estimating the work, performing it, and handling follow-up phone calls. He quoted both a complete new installation of asphalt or the asphalt cap, which fit our budget better. The current drive was disintegrating and wreaking havoc with our wood floors. He told us it was the sealant and that we should not seal the driveway. It is mostly shaded and after all, they don't seal asphalt streets. This turned out not to be so. His crew did a clean job of installing the cap. It is level and had no blemishes. They also removed and replaced border stones and caused no damage to our driveway lights. We had to bring in topsoil to fill in the lawn up to the edges of the drive, but apparently that is normal, to keep the drive edges from breaking down. Challenges: The following summer we noticed that the top of the asphalt was "popping". Little black stones were sloughing off in many places on the drive - it really looked like it needed a good sealer. During one hot day, we noticed a gouge from our car tire and I called Mike. He said once it cooled down his crew would come repair the gouge and anything else that happened during the summer. Such gouges are normal for a new driveway. When the crew came, though, all they did was burn the asphalt and make it more brittle and more prone to sloughing off. When they saw all the spots that showed wear they told us we needed to seal it. The solution was to seal it, which we did, and it should winter well. The sealer told us that probably the late installation (mid-October) of the asphalt made it more prone to "popping". As for not sealing it, he was stumped by that advice. The sealant seems to be important to holding the drive together. I wish we would have known to do that, and gotten it done earlier in the summer.
Description of Work: Installed an asphalt cap over an existing, disintegrating asphalt driveway.

sorry for your troubles.my advice to everyone is the same seal your drive if you want .sealing does not hold asphalt together.the asphalt that is used is the same asphalt they use on streets.rowe paving has been asphalting drives for 20 years.when you turn your wheels on the same spot day after day on a hot day they will leave a mark. not popping .we asphalt until thanksgiving every year as long as the temp is around 40 degrees.

Mike Rowe, owner, came out quickly after calling him and gave me an estimate on the tear out and replacing of my asphalt drive. I was having other work done and he was to be last on the list of repairs because roofers and others needed to put bins on the drive. He was always quick to return my call as I kept him posted on the progress of other workers and when I would be ready for the driveway. At this time I thought I wanted the sidewalk by my house moved and made wider. Rowe Paving also does concrete but just the plain concrete, not exposed aggregate, stamped, colored or other treatments. I had a few estimates for replacing walk by other contractors but the coordinating of all these people after all the other workers this summer was more than I could deal with and I contacted Mike to do the walk tear out and replacement with "regular" concrete. He told me not to worry that they could do a good job with what I wanted. Rowe's workers were professional and efficient. It took just 2 days to tear out and replace drive with 2 layers of asphalt and tear out and relocate and replace sidewalk. They reset a portion of walk forms after I saw the new shape and decided that the stoop needed to be deeper and the walk narrower as it came off the stoop. The fact that Rowe does concrete AND asphalt is a huge plus. I can't imagine that I'm the only homeowner that needs both types of work done at the same time. In my neighborhood, new asphalt drives MUST HAVE a concrete apron where the drive meets the street. I love my new driveway and walk and my neighbors are raving about the quality and attractiveness of the work that Rowe Paving has done.

I could not have gone any better. The work was efficient and the quality was excellent. My family used to have a paving company and I worked there when I was young. I have a very good understanding of the process, cost, timeframes, etc. Mr. Rowe and his crew were superb in all aspects. We checked for standing water and found a small spot that was a tad high. Mr. Rowe immediately fixed it and it drains well. He will be doing the rest of our driveway in the spring. The portion they did last week was approximately 10% of total and if he does as good a job on the other 90% we'll be very, very happy.
Description of Work: Removed a portion of driveway and laid new asphalt. They also dug a couple small trench lines for our drainage tile that went under the driveway.

Well, as far as the work goes, it is beautiful. Mike was punctual and reliable, and did a beautiful job. However, we had spoken at length with him, before he started, about our new stamped concrete walkway, and his need to be very mindful of it with the machines. The first day, one of the crew chipped a 6 inch corner off the new sidewalk, and then Mike briefly discussed ways with my husband in which it could be repaired. Mike seemed very unconcerned and uninterested in our disappointment with the accident. He took very little responsiblility for it, and did not seem concerned about making us satisfied. His suggestion as to how to repair it was shoddy and asymmetrical, and would have looked awful. The next morning, my husband called me at work to say that they were still undecided as to how to fix the mistake and that I needed to come home. I came home from work, in the middle of my morning; Mike saw me drive in, and kept me waiting for over 10 minutes while he messed around with his truck. My husband and I waited patiently and approached him with our concerns when he finally came up to meet us. He was extremely rude to me, blamed the accident on the concrete company, and then turned his back on me and walked away. I went back to work feeling dismissed and unheard. The concrete guy came back the next morning and evened up the broken edge, and then Mike came back this morning to fill it in with asphalt. The finished product will be fine, I think, but the fact remains that it is the not the original walkway that we had installed and paid a lot of money for. I was not overly upset about the accident; things happen, and I assumed Mike would work with us to get a good resolution. I was, however, appalled at the way Mike talked to me and dimissed my concerns. Very poor customer service. If all you care about is a beautiful driveway, Mike's your guy. If you want someone who will treat you with respect and concern, and who cares about having satisfied customers, look elsewhere. ;
Description of Work: He ripped out the old driveway and installed a new asphalt one with nice precise edges and a beautiful finish.

We are well pleased with Mike Rowe and his employees' work. We do not live in Indy yet but were going to be there for a long weekend. Mike worked his schedule so he could install our driveway on Saturday with the final coat of asphalt on Monday. He kept us informed as to what he was doing every step of the way. He went the extra mile and dug a trench for us. He and his crew are very hardworking and honest. We highly recommend him for any asphalt work you may have.

I obtained (4) bids on this project. I called Rowe Asphalt Paving and left a message. Mike Rowe called me back and agreed to come out on a Saturday to give me an estimate. Mike arrived on time and provided an estimate by email in a timely manner. You could tell by talking with him that Mike has done asphalt work for a long time and really knew what he was talking about. He was very polite, informative and professional. Two of the other estimates I received had recommended just filling the holes in my existing driveway and applying topcoat asphalt directly over the old damaged driveway. After looking at the overall wear, severe alligator cracks and holes in my driveway, Mike recommended that I take up the old driveway and apply new asphalt in two layers (binder and topcoat). Mike said he would quote it both ways but - if we just paved over the existing driveway - it would look nice and we'd be very happy for about 5 years before it would likely begin to come apart. He said if we took it up and did it the right way, it would probably last 20 - 25 years or more. I was concerned what the cost might be to do the "tear out" (thinking it might be double my previous "one layer" bids) but Mike's "tear out" / "2-layer" bid was only 17% more than the bid I received from another contractor to pave over my damaged drive. It was also 27% below the other bid I received to do the "tear out" and complete the project "the right way" with both binder and topcoat layers. Mike estimated it would be a 3 day project with 1 day for tear out, 1 day for binder and 1 day for topcoat. As it turned out, the crew was done in 2 days, getting both the tear out and binder layer done in one day. The crew arrived on time and was very courteous and professional. Upon inspecting my driveway after each layer was applied, I am confident that the amount of material applied met or exceeded that quoted. The driveway looks great! I would not hesitate to recommend Rowe Paving for your paving projects.
Description of Work: Tore out approximately 325 feet of old & damaged asphalt driveway and applied 2" (compacted) of binder asphalt followed by 1-1/2" (compacted) of topcoat asphalt.

Excellent. Would definitely recommend. Mike came out for estimate, measured square footage, looked at driveway, and quickly identified what needed to be done. He quoted one price for asphalt and another additional variable cost for the amount of gravel/stone that would be needed as he got into the job. To improve the driveway level and water drainage, some undercut/digging work was needed. The estimates were very competitive. What I liked was the fact that no one can know the truly know the cost for the undercut/digging work until they get into the job (my driveway was 30 yrs old). Other companies gave me one cost estimates but with Mike, I felt I would get a job done right. In the end, only limited undercut work was needed and Mike beat his estimate that he gave me in advance for this work (he only charged a fraction of the advance estimate). That tells me he did what he had to do to make the job right...but not more...and gave me a fair price. Total cost for all work was $4600. Mike also took time to work around an invisible underground dog fence I had. Very appreciative for that. In the end, my driveway looks better than ever and drains water great.
Description of Work: Full removal of existing asphalt driveway, undercut of driveway and addition of gravel as needed to ensure good base and proper drainage, and new asphalt driveway.

We were very pleased with the entire process, including the finished product. It could not have gone much better from our standpoint. The owner, Mike Rowe, was prompt in setting up an appointment to visit our home and evaluate the project. He came out early on a Sat. morning (as we requested), and then called later in the day to give us his price, followed up by the written proposal. Rowe Paving was 20% lower than the other 2 bids we obtained from very highly rated Angie's List paving contractors that we would have hired based on their reviews. We selected Mike and his company based on both the price and his hands-on approach to the job. Mike and his crew were very helpful in laying out the precise dimensions of the new paved drive and circle to match up with some existing landscaping beds, a sidewalk to the front door and our concrete driveway pad in front of the garage bays. We, as the homeowners, used paint to get started on the driveway circle's location and dimensions, and even used a fixed rod and string to make it look close to a perfect circle. The Rowe Paving crew promptly redrew the lines, freehand no less, and made it look even better. The finished circle looks like it was designed with more precise instruments. The process involved removing sod and dirt from our lawn where the new driveway circle would be, all of which was dumped inside the circle to build up a low spot already there. Then, the crew removed most of the existing driveway gravel and reused it for the base of the new area, and also to obtain the correct grade/depth for the new asphalt drive. The removed and reused gravel, and gravel left behind, was rolled to form a compact base to which the asphalt was applied. Mike Rowe was on-site most of the day, answered every question we had, and employs a friendly but diligent crew who comes to work and get the job done. In talking with some of the employees, we learned that they had been working for Mike Rowe for many years, and that longevity reflects positively on the business and its ownership. We would recommend Rowe Paving without reservation.
Description of Work: Rowe Paving converted our original gravel drive to a 12' wide asphalt drive, and added a new circle drive in front that had been turf. Approximately 3000 square feet was paved. Rowe Paving also raised the grade of the driveway at the street to be more level with the roadway, where previously there was a slight incline as you exited the driveway which limited our visibility. While the proposal for the work called for an approximate square footage to be paved, Rowe Paving was generous in providing some extra paving for looks and practical reasons at no extra charge. Some minor damage was done to the adjacent lawn in a couple of places. Rowe Paving took some dirt and filled in the ruts as requested.

Mr. Rowe was very responsive to my phone call requesting an estimate. He came out on the day I requested. He e-mailed the estimate for recapping of driveway with a 12 foot turn-around extension promptly. He and his team arrived on time and were very professional. They completed the work in less than 4 hours. They even straightened a crooked edge of the driveway that was done by the original paving contractor many years ago. I found Mr. Rowe and a couple other contractors on Angie's List and had them come out to discuss the project and get estimates. Mr. Rowe was very responsive to my phone calls and willing to come right out to see what we needed done. He was also happy to come back a second time to discuss everything to make sure we were all on the same page. Their estimate was DEFINITELY the most competitive as they seemed to want to do what was RIGHT by making it as affordable as they could, rather than do something that was just a "band aid" and not going to last. Mr. Rowe is a reasonable man and takes pride in his team's work. We scheduled the date to complete work and they came out and had it complete within one day. They were very detail oriented, customer service and satisfaction driven and did a FANTASTIC job. I highly recommend. Thank you!!

Mr. Rowe returned my call right away and came to provide an estimate within a day or two. I got two estimates and his was the lower of the two so we selected his bid. The driveway looks great, and the drainage is better. Because of the extremely hot weather around the time of this work, I had concern that the drive was not cured enough and would be damaged. He said he felt it was OK but to call him next spring if there is any difficulty with it and he would come and fix it. I found it a very satisfactory experience.

Mike and his crew arrived at 7:30 a.m., as promised, and finished the job by 4:00 p.m. In the end, although he did add additional crushed rock, giving the driveway a better slope and matching the grade of our neighbor's driveway, he did not charge extra for this. Mike Rowe and his team did an outstanding job, and we couldn't be happier with the quality of their work. We recommend them highly.
Description of Work: This was a complete replacement of our asphalt driveway, a bit more than 100 ft. in length. We requested a bid from Rowe Asphalt as well as from a competitor; the bid from Rowe ($5200) was more than $2000 less than the second company. At the time of his estimate, Mike Rowe fully explained the work to be done, including the contingency of possibly needing to add more crushed rock for the substrate in order to produce a more durable and consistent surface. And because he noticed uneveness where the asphalt meets a concrete apron to the street, as well as where it meets a concrete walkway on the other end, he offered to use a masonry saw to straighten these edges for a neater overall appearance.
