They were very good. It worked well. They gave me an estimate, and told me their services, which was good. It was an free estimate. The responsiveness was good. I couldn't tell, I wasn't home. The professionalism was good. There was no estimate, they did the work, and it wasn't a critter. I didn't see him, it was over the phone. He was nice and professional. I would recommend them.

They put a trap where the raccoon was getting in and out, so the raccoon could get out, but couldn't get back in. Then they fixed the whole and fixed a few other spots where it looked like he might try again.

They did a good job. I used them to put insulation in my attic and get rid of some varmints that was hanging around. They took care of that. They did some extra stuff so I think the price was legitimate. It was a good price. I highly recommend them. I haven't had a problem since. They recommended some other things I had them do. I had problems in my attic that I didn't know I had. They went the extra mile to help me out. About three or four people came out. The workers were well mannered and well dressed in their work uniforms. Their trucks were clean and they were very professional.

They charged about $45-$55 per animal and $75 to come out and set the traps. It’s an expensive venture. I don’t know how to get rid of them so I just have to go along with the price. I can say it’s high but I can’t do anything about it. As far as I’m concerned, it’s worth it, I can’t set the traps. I’m not going to set the traps. It was a good price. I did use them again.

They were ok. The price was a little high. They came right out. I think they they said they were the only ones around so I'd have to use them again. I would tell people to check other people, tell them to look around. It took a few weeks, they started and then they finished it 2 to 3 weeks later. I was hoping it would be a little quicker, they have to wait until they get into the traps and then they go into the ground. They do everything underground. I don't have anything to compare them to.

Well we did just use them recently, but we didn’t get any animals. We paid for the service. I just had a problem, you had to pay them upfront whether they catch anything or not. We had moles in the yard. The gentleman and the service have been great, just no animals. I don’t know they just aren’t around, so we’ll see. The company is very reliable. They set several traps, about 5 or 6 traps. We’ve tried everything, different companies in the past. We learned a lot from this gentleman about the moles. In the past companies, have put grubs. But this gentleman said you can’t catch them with grubs, they aren’t after grubs they are after worms. He said they are after earthworms here in Indiana. He’s come back every day. Price was pretty steep. He came back every day for 30 days. It hasn’t been completed I think we may have one more week of it, I’m not sure. The worker that came out was a very nice gentleman, very professional. No improvement because I don’t know that much about moles. From what me and my husband observed they’ve done a good job. Maybe they could have set a few extra traps to figure out what is going on and where they were. First impression was good. They are a good company.

They did a good job. I think it took about a day and they did what I wanted them to do. I paid initially for them to come out and set the trap. Then they caught it and I had to pay more for them to take it away. They are a good company. My neighbor had used them also. They are a good company. They did what they said they would do. It didn't take them that long to do it. They give you 5-6 weeks that if you see another one you can call them back and not have to pay the $134. I called a week after and said could they just come out because I was very close to the deadline, but they said they couldn't come back out. I understand that. Companies can't work for free. I didn't call them back out because I didn't have the money. I don't think the price is unreasonable for somebody that has the money. If you see another one after their deadline you have to pay the initial fee again. I can't afford to pay the $134 every time I saw something. I don't want to judge them on what I can or cannot afford. They are a good company. I would recommend them. They did a good job. I think they are a good company. The guy came out and did his job. He was very professional. I don't think it is bad to pay for when they catch it. It is just the initial fee. He came back and set the trap. He caught the raccoon in a couple days. He came back out and put him in the truck and took him away. They did their job. I think the guy was on time.

HORRIBLE! This company is NOT AN "A" rate company who failed to do their job and still charged us for their mistake. Critter control came to our residence to inspect the house for animals. Based on our online research, we thought it was raccoons for various reasons and explained this to them in great detail. The expert they sent out said it wasn't and all we had were chipmunks. For 3-4 months, we set out traps for chipmunks and the noises kept getting worse. We called them again and they sent another person out to check and he confirmed it was raccoons within 5 minutes of visiting the house. He was now trapping raccoons ($80 per) and gave an estimate to repair the damage for $10,000. By the time we called them to when the raccoons were completely removed was 6-7 months. Who knows how much extra damage and costs we incurred from their failure to do their job? COMMUNICATION - Tried contacting the owner and manager several times with NO RESPONSE!!!! I asked the assistant manager to have them call me and nothing. PRICE - The technician offered to lower the estimate to $6,500 from $10,000 after they found out it wasn't covered by insurance and took removed some repairs from list. Note that other quotes afterward were in the $5,000 range so Critter Control was also the most expensive. We paid them close to $1,000 to remove animals not including repairs. OWNER / EMPLOYEES - learned that the original "expert" was fired after a few months . Owner was completely MIA and technician said they were going through challenges? Technician only called back every other time we left a message. DAMAGE / RESULT - I felt like the amount of damage over a 6 month period caused by the raccoons could have significantly added to the cost of repairing the house. Who knows our bill may have only been $500-$1,000 if they would have done their job on day 1. Now we are forced to spend many hours and days and additional money. Final bill was $5,500 from another company who was much better. Who knows....if the owner/manager would have called me back we could have handled this a different way.

Response from Critter Control of Indianapolis
First and foremost, I would like to humbly apologize for his negative experience with Critter Control of Indianapolis! I have personally reached out to the number we have on file to discuss this situation. My attempt so far has been unsuccessful. After twenty five (25) years of being the leading wildlife firm in Indianapolis, our founder and owner was hit with a devastating terminal illness. Keeping privacy for the family foremost in this response, all I will say is that for several months, our "critter world" was turned up side down. The family did the best they could to maintain our world class customer service, but in this instance obviously, did not perform up to expectations. For that we are truly sorry. There are parts and pieces to this review that I could challenge, but would prefer to just let the our integrity and past customers speak for us. Of the 528 reviews we have accumulated with Angies list over the years, ninety six percent (96%) have been positive, with the overwhelming majority being A ratings. My wife and I have been family friends for years with the Indianapolis founders and own other Critter Control franchises; which are also "A" rated with Angie's List. We have a steadfast and unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction and doing things the right way. I am very happy to report that all existing key employees were retained, and some that were laid off in this very difficult time, have been brought back. We quite simply are well on our way to being stronger and better than ever. Sincerely, Evan Windholz

Because I had a severe mole problem, I contracted with Critter Control, 96th Street, Indianapolis, for 30 days coverage. They set traps and caught a few moles. They stopped by my house most weekdays. After about two weeks, they stopped coming ever though I still had moles in my yard. When I discovered they weren’t providing the service (about a week later), I called to find out why they stopped service. The receptionist told me the technician servicing my property got sick. She said coverage would begin again and that they would extend my contract for another 30 days without additional cost to me. That was on May 6. Service began as promised. However, it stopped on May 17 again without warning. The technician had told me earlier that he was contemplating retirement. Apparently, he did. On May 27, I contacted Critter Control and asked them to remove the two traps that had been left unattended in my yard for the past ten days. My patience was exhausted. How many times were we going to have to do this? And I still had a mole problem. I have heard nothing from Critter Control since May 6. It seems to me that sickness and even retirement should be little more than a minor bump in the road for a well-managed company. The company is obviously not dependable and seems to have no interest in positive customer relations. Critter Controls' advertisement on the internet says that “satisfaction is guaranteed”. I wonder how that works?

We had obtained a ridiculously high quote from another company for the bird removal/clean up and decided to contact Critter Control for another opinion. We spoke with Robin on a Friday and their technician, Randy, arrived on Monday morning. He did the initial removal of nests/etc. that day. Two days later, Billy and Brian returned to complete the clean up, fog the attic and apply the steel screen to the gable vents on the exterior of the house. This company was great to work with. They are friendly, very professional and we appreciated the quick way they responded to our problem. Hopefully, we won't need them again in the future but, if we do, we would definitely use them again. We were very happy with their service and felt that their price was reasonable for the job.
Description of Work: Sparrows broke through the mesh screen in our gable vents and had been building nests in our attic. Critter Control removed all of the nesting material, put up steel mesh on the exterior of the vents to prevent them from coming in again and applied a microbial fogger to the attic to eliminate bacteria, etc.

We had a problem with raccoon getting in the boxing of our roof. First off they didn't tell us, we should have known, but they nailed the cage into the roof. A squirrel got caught in it instead of the raccoon. It took them until the next day to even come and get the squirrel out. We didn't really tell them to but they came out and took the trap off the roof and didn't do anymore and they never did charge us.

The wooden shutters outside two of the windows on the second floor of our house had become home for several bats, resulting in unsightly bat guano (bat poop) on the shutters and front step of the house. The bats were also living on the outside of the vents over the garage and attic. We contacted Critter Control for an estimate on the removal of the bats. Tim Wilks with Critter Control inspected the outside of the house as well as inside the attics, both over the garage and on the second story of the house, and determined that the bats had not yet penetrated inside the house. He explained that we would have to replace the existing wooden shutters with vinyl shutters and that the new vinyl shutters would need to be backed by screening with caulk around the outside of the shutters to discourage return of any bats. Since the house needed painting which would involve the removal of the old shutters on the second story anyway, we opted to put the new shutter installation on hold and get the house painted. Critter Control initially left me a voice mail that they had sent an e-mail with their estimate attached, but I did not receive this at my e-mail address. My husband then contacted Critter Control for the estimate which included the cost of the shutters along with labor and installation of the shutters and screening on the gable vents. The estimate did not include any measurements for the shutters themselves or cost of individual shutters, and my husband asked Mr. Wilks to order shutters that were closest in style to the shutters that were already on the house. Mr. Wilks stated that the new shutters might be slightly different in dimensions from the existing shutters, which my husband took to be a few inches either way. The shutters and screening were installed today, October 26, 2015. The shutters on the windows of the front of the house proper look fine, but the shutters on the windows on the garage (fronting on the street) are 15 inches longer than the windows themselves. The shutters on either side of the front door--which Mr. Wilks had stated that he would special order so that they would be the correct size--are at least ten inches too short. To add insult to injury, Mr. Wilks called my husband early this afternoon demanding our credit card number before we had a chance to inspect the work. When my husband called Mr. Wilks to tell him that the results were unacceptable and would have to be fixed, Mr. WIlks immediately went on the offensive and insisted that we had refused to talk with him about the size of the shutters and that he "would be happy to do that, BUT." Mr. Wilks then spoke with me and reiterated in some detail that we had refused to communicate with him about the size of the shutters--this is not true, but we were foolish enough to believe we were on the same wavelength as to size. I asked Mr. Wilks if he would install similar shutters of incorrect size on his house, and he did not respond. The lesson to be learned here, dear reader, is to be sure that you have measurements from the contractor and that you double-check the measurements yourself. After some heated conversation, Mr. Wilks agreed to my request to remove the shutters from the windows on the garage and by the front door, and to adjust our bill accordingly. (He grudgingly offered to look at different sizes and reorder shutters, but given his initial response and the request for immediate payment, I wanted no further involvement with the company.) Robin Wilks, Mr. Wilk's spouse, who is in the office of Critter Control, called about an hour after we had talked with her husband. (I had called twice earlier in the afternoon.) I explained our concerns and the result of my conversation with her husband. Her response was to tell me that it was my husband's fault as he had told Mr. Wilks to order the shutters and that he (my husband) would "take the heat." I reiterated the outcome of my conversation with her spouse, to which she responded that since we'd talked with him, there had been no reason for her to call. (We called our credit card company immediately to cancel the payment until we had come to a resolution with Critter Control.) At no time did either Mr. or Mrs. Wilks express any dismay or apology over our unhappiness with the work they completed.
Description of Work: Inspected house for bat infestation, ordered and replaced vinyl shutters on front of house including mesh behind the shutters and caulking around the shutters to discourage bat infestation. Also installed mesh screens on vents over garage door and attic.
