My wife and I purchased a complete bathroom remodel as an Angie's List Big Deal. We were incredibly happy with the results. Dave and his partner did a great job with everything and the bathroom looks amazing now. We could tell just from talking to them that they take great pride in their work and will go above and beyond to make sure you are happy. We have a second bathroom in need of work and we will definitely be using APEX when the time comes this summer.

I had a problem with the electricity going off in two bedrooms. Dave came and look at the electrical box, and fixed the problem very quickly. Since I had purchased a deal for two hours of work, he asked me what else he could do, since there was time left. I found a few things that I needed done, and he took care of that in a timely fashion. He is very helpful.

The guy was very nice and got to work right away. He took about an hour and a half to install the fan and we were worried he wouldn?t have enough time to finish the switches but he finished right on the dot. It was a good deal for the amount of work needed to be done. The fan and switches seem to work as they should!

I contacted the company (David Wilson) andcset up an appointment to check out the electrical main line anchor. It had started to dislodge after a tree limb fell on the line at the pole. The gentleman was nice enough to seal the anchor until repairs were completed by what ever company I hired. The information was forward to the owner I believe who emailed me a price of $125.00. This covered labor and any parts that were needed. I agreed and set up an appointment. The crew were on time and quickly completed the repair. The short term seal kept a heavy rain from leaking into the house. I would highly recommend this company. Prompt professionals at a fair price.

It was handled very strangely because he owner. First of all, I wanted an electrical outlet put outside. The installer came out and it was blustery cold when they came out. It was one of those horrible days. He did not have what he needed since our house is a brick house. He needed a drill that he did not have. I told him to come back a week or so when the weather breaks. He said fine and the owner would call me. The owner called back and we set the time. The guy was going to come over within an hour. I told him that it was fine. He said that I should have all the electrical hook ups that I need. I am not an electrician, so, I asked what I need. He said that they did not provide that and also said that it was in the fine print that we should provide that. I told him again that I do not know what I needed. He said that they just provide the labor and he was really nasty with me. He said that it says in the print and that I should look at that. I told him that I am not an electrician and told him that the guy who was here did not tell me that I needed anything or that I needed to get anything. He said that if I did not get it within the hour, they were going to charge me for the amount of time that his man would spend to get the box that I needed and all of the stuff. I told him to get there and I get the box. I went to the hardware store and I told them what I was trying to get installed, and the guy in ace hardware was really helpful. I got everything I needed and brought it back. The guy was waiting in the drive way for me. The installer was great but the owner was horrible. It was interesting because the installer said that he should never have done that to me. He should have told me what I needed and I could have got everything. I guess they had problems with him being kind of abrupt with people. I told him that he was down-right rude. The installer did a great job. He was very helpful. He worked hard, and I am pleased with what he did. The service was good. It was the way they treated you over the phone, accepting you to know something that you do not know. If I were an electrician, I would have known that. This was my first experience with them. The installation was excellent. I have no complaints with the guy who put it in and the way he did it.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we truly appreciate it. I do not feel that I was rude in reiterating the fact that that all materials were to be on site at the time of your appointment to ensure your time was used to perform your desired project. My employees are paid by the hour and it is not cost effective to provide a discounted price and additional labor time for free. At the time of your purchase you were advised to have all materials on site per email correspondences copy/ pasted below: Apex Design Build/ Fiber Cement Siding 12/3/2013 Mr. Client, I received your voice-mail today and returned your call. I have an opening for Tuesday morning (10th) arriving between at 8-8:30am. The coupon you purchased is for labor only and does not include materials any additional time above and beyond the 2 man hours will be billed at $70 per man hour. Please have materials for scope of work. We carry wire/ outlets and can charge you for materials used. You will need to have proper 15/20 amp breaker for your panel if you are adding an additional dedicated circuit for the stove unit. Please confirm date/ time slot to book asap. Unfortunately, I won't be available Tuesday and I needed this done before then anyway, so I got another electrician to come in tomorrow. However, I've heard good reports about you and I would like you to install an outdoor outlet in the front of the house. Would you be able to do that sometime next week (other than Tuesday)? Thanks. J I did not mean for stating our coupon policy to be rude and apologize if you took it that way. We clearly stated prior to booking and it is also listed in the coupon fine print. The person doing the work was great. On time, pleasant came back to fix problems. The cost was high I will explain below. The salesman was terrible and I will never use this company again. When I told the salesman that one of the ceilings did not have a pan box installed. He told me it was . When I sent him a picture asking him where was the pan box. He told me they would come out and replace the pan box. (thus telling me I must of took it out and was lying). When I told the salesman that the same ceiling did not have power. He told me I must of caused the breaker to turn off when I took out the fan that did not work. I explained I am not dumb and know to check something like that. Whe they came out to put the box in they discovered they had not wired it correctly. I estimated the time it would take to put up the fans. I did not expect the cost would double because they sent a helper. I feel we were over charged by Apex sending a helper that did almost nothing at the same price as the electrician. Below you will see a charge for store trip charge of $30.00. Which is almost as much as the materials. Also a charge of $10.00 for two 24 inch 2x4 is high. 4 man hours x 2 techs = $396.00. Store trip Charge = $30.00 Materials: 45' - 14/2 = $38.52 2 ceiling boxes= $9.18 Grommets- 2x4 = $10.01_________________________________________________________________ Total = $483.71

Thank you taking the time to leave your feedback, it is greatly appreciated. First I will start off by saying this client purchased a 2 hour coupon for labor only. I contacted the client via email and inquired about his desired projects. I explained to the gentleman the time and materials it takes for a typical install as he desired. I gave him the turn key price of $235 per room that included all materials and labor. I have copy/ pasted our correspondences in regards to his appointment: Apex Design Build Inc.- Angieslist Inbox x David Wilson apexdesignindy@gmail.com Jan 7 to client Mr. Client, The time for adding a fan rated box and wiring from switch to the box takes approx. 2.5- 3 man hours / materials per box plus the time of the fan / light installation depending on type purchased. This is provided that there is sufficient attic access over the rooms that you desire to have ceiling fan/ lights installed. We typically charge a turn key price of $235 per room; this includes labor/ materials, and the installation of your provided fan unit/light. The coupon you purchased is for labor only and all needed materials are to be on-site for the desired scope of work. Any additional time would be billed at the Angieslist rate of the $99 for 2 man hours. Thank you, -- David Wilson Apex Design Build Inc. (317) 629-7638 " For All Your Home Improvement Needs!! Client Jan 8 to me That sounds good. There is good access in the attic. Let me know when it can be done. We live in greenwood. He also had 1 fan unit that was not operational, we returned and installed his new unit for no extra charge. This gentleman continued to harass me via email after several times after I informed him to call me to discuss his concerns. He was not truthful in his conversation as when he informed me that the work was being performed at his residence and indeed it was the residence of someone else. As indicated above with the spelled out charges prior to scheduling. This client only charged the $235 per room for a total of $470.00 He was invoiced an additional $371 above and beyond his coupon of $99. The breakdown showed by client was actual charges that should of been charged using the Angieslist rate. David Wilson- Owner

I initially purchased and Angie's list Big deal for 2 hours of electrical labor for $99. The ad stated it was for labor only but I bought it anyway knowing that I would have the cost of materials to add to the deal. I was contacted by Apex's owner David Wilson and he informed me that this Big Deal was labor only and that he would need to have someone come out and do an estimate for a bid contract which would include materials. He said he would apply what I had already paid toward the work. What he didn't say was that he would apply it at the regular labor rate so that I would only get 1 hour's worth of labor when I expected 2 for that credit, but more to follow on that point. I accepted his bid estimate for installing the generator connection to the house electric panel based on his technician's (Jason) estimate that it would probably take 4 hours to complete the job due to having to drill through masonry and cut some drywall. The bid estimate was $442 for material and labor. Unfortunately the bad weather in the Indianapolis area created difficulties for the Apex team getting to the house due to too much snow and ice. After a second power outage my wife and I decided to invest in a whole house generator instead so I emailed David and informed him that we wanted the generator connection done to the barn electrical panel instead of the house panel. I informed him that this should be an easier job that would take less time since the barn was open access and no drilling or cutting was required. At this point the original bid estimate was no longer valid since the scope of the job had changed, but he did not indicate he was going to reduce the price for the work. Knowing that I had 2 hours of labor pre-paid with the Big Deal I had anticipated only paying for the material cost when the work was done. Jason and Mike were the electrical team who came to do the work. Jason was the one who did the initial estimate for the work when we were thinking about installing it on the house. These guys were totally professional and did a great job and these ratings should not reflect on them. They arrived around 2:15 PM and were finished with the installation at approximately 4:20 PM, basically 2 hours of labor. Overall I was very pleased with the job and wished I had done it before all the bad weather. I initially provided a stellar report on this website based on the great work of Jason and Mike. I am now revising this report based on my less than satisfactory dealings with David, the owner after receiving the an invoice for $366 ($465 - $99 pre-paid). After getting the invoice I sent David an email asking him to call me since I had questions about how much it was given the labor time should have been zero based on my pre-paid Big Deal so I was only expecting material costs. This is when the trouble began with him. He sent a reply to my email stating several things as justification for the extra labor costs that were completely false. First he said the team had to make a trip back to pick up extra wire since the original job only called for 5 ft and the new one took 18 ft. I called him on this because the team had the wire when they got here and before they arrived they didn't even know how much would be needed. He next said the team had to wait on me for an hour because I was on a conference call and couldn't tell them where to put the generator plug. Once again I called his bluff because I knew my wife had let them into the barn and they were in the process of installing the interlock switch when I arrived to show them the location of the plug. He then proceeded to say that he had to charge extra labor because they had gotten stuck on the previous trip out and he had to pay them for their time. Actually, I missed a client call due to having to help get them unstuck from the snow in my drive which several other cars, including my own had been able to navigate. Even if this had been the case that he had to charge me, he never informed me of this ahead of time or I would have carried the electricians and their gear on up to the house in my own truck. The last straw came when he said that he had to charge me labor for ordering the materials himself since I didn't have them already. As I thought about this I agreed he might have a point until I took time to research the average cost of the items used on this project and found that even taking time to go out to the barn to ensure I had the correct material descriptions, it took me less than 30 minutes to put together an entire materials order (and I could get it all delivered with no shipping charge). Based on this little exercise, and my conversation with Jason the electrician afterward, I found out that only two of the items had to be ordered (the interlock kit and the plug box) which should have taken even less time, and I found David had over-estimated the material cost on the original bid by roughly $50 dollars. The rest of the story is that I received a call from Jason the electrician saying David was not going to pay him until I paid David. This is just one more example of not only poor leadership on David's part, but also is a good indication of his lack of character. As a result, I paid the invoice as written and decided to use the power of Angie's List to get the word out to be careful when purchasing services from Apex. If you need a good electrician go to Jason direct. If you see a Big Deal from Apex buy it with extreme caution since it will end up costing you much more than you bargained for in the beginning. I will not recommend Apex to anyone and while I had asked Jason about other services they provide based on his excellent work, I will now take my remaining business elsewhere. For the additional $200 he got out of me for this project, he is losing the potential for several thousand more in planned renovations we are doing this year and next. The nice thing about the Big Deals is that you get to try before you REALLY buy. I guess the silver lining is it worked in this case since we now know to stay away from Apex.

This client purchased one of our storefront offers for "2 hours of electrical service". The coupon clearly states that it is for labor only and does not cover materials. I contacted him to discuss his project. Due to the complexity and nature of his desired project. I offered to perform a site visit to evaluate the project and home and give him a turn-key bid based upon the Angies List discounted labor rate he had purchased of $49.50 per man hour of labor to complete his project. His project was bid all inclusive at 4.5 man hours of labor and materials of $219.35. See below: *Materials and labor for installation of Geninterlock Generator Interlock kit, 30 amp breaker, L14-30 Power Inlet, 10-3 wiring, and conduit. Outlet is to be located on exterior wall on the opposite side of the panel within 5’. Materials= $219.35 Labor = $222.75 Total = $442.10 -$99.00 Pre paid He then had decided to change the desired location of this project which incurred additional wiring. See invoice information below: Additional - *Additional materials above and beyond the original scope of work. 15’ of 10/3 wire = $15.70 20’ of ¾” Carlon Conduit / hangers=$7.56 Totaling an extra =$23.26 This client repeated disputed his bull in which he actually justifies the charges in his feed back as explained below: Parts were copy/ pasted: Clients actual words: "Jason and Mike were the electrical team who came to do the work. They arrived around 2:15 PM and were finished with the installation at approximately 4:20 PM, basically 2 hours of labor. This is actually 4+ man hours (2 men x 2 hours) as was calculated per his bid and he was charged only the bid amount. Time of a 1/2 hour were charged to gather his needed materials. Also customary charge of 20% was added to the overall cost of the materials as is with any business that performs work for a profit. I tried to explain the details of the bid as the client would not listen to reason. All in all a bid was created weeks before and sent to the client and accepted by this client and he scheduled to have the work performed and it was performed to his satisfaction. I thank him for his feedback but he could of been more couth in his communications.

I have to say that the service and quality of work I received was amazing. I purchased a siding package via Angie's List at a discount. The contractor began my job earlier than anticipated, and in order to make deadline, his workmen began work just after daybreak and worked until dusk. They even showed up one Saturday and worked a full day. The entire siding job, including house wrap and painting, took about 7 days. I added window replacement to the package - there were a few hiccups here, but nothing that would downgrade the company as a whole. The primary delay seems to have been at the factory - the windows had to be ordered, and they came in later than anticipated. Then there were weather delays - nothing anyone could control. Once again, the crew accommodated as best as they could, completing the exterior one Saturday before we had a huge rainstorm. The entire job exceeded my expectations - I feel as though I have a whole new house, and I've gotten nothing but compliments from neighbors. The house wrap and new windows have certainly proven to be great investments in the near-zero temperatures we've had recently, as there is no more cold air leaking in the house (my house is over 100 years old and insulation is sketchy.) Apex Design gets an A++ from me.

Purchased Big Deal ($99 for two hours electrical work) and asked them to take a look at several outdoor lighting issues with our farmhouse. We assumed the workers would come from Danville, where we live and the address listed in Angie's List, but they actually came from the Geist area and got lost, as they were unfamiliar with the area. However, they contacted us repeatedly, apologizing and guaranteeing that they would stay longer since they were running late. We prioritized the issues, and they got to work immediately. They discovered that the wiring between the dusk-to-dawn sensor and the lighting had never been installed, so they ran a new wire to connect the two. Because of the cold, they couldn't spackle around the holes they cut, however, they replaced the squares and put up tape so that I can spackle when it gets warmer. They were extremely courteous and I will use them again to address our other electrical issues.

Serviceman brought his father/partner to assist. Initially said that even though I purchased 2 hours of electrical work for $99.00, serviceman said that since there were two of them, they were only giving me two people for one hour. After explaining our relationship with Angie's List and the job, he did not discuss the time he was allocating any more and completed the job within the two hours. He also asked if we had any other electrical needs. We did not and the new fan works fine. Both men were very nice.

I can't say enough good things about David Wilson and Apex Design. I used him a few weeks ago for the first time after finding him on Angie's List, and he did such a great job I immediately used him again. Potential client purchased our " Big Deal" for a 10' x12' deck. They wanted to extend the deck size an additional 300 sq. ft with railings, stairs, etc. 2 tiered deck. The deck was to be constructed in an area that was brush filled with trees and such. Clients proposal was based upon the Angies list advertised rate. This clients also wanted estimates for many other items that I dont feel they understand what materials and labor cost are. This client returned emails back and forth trying to change her purchase for items that did not pertain to her purchase. I advised her to request a refund through Angies List since she did not want the original purchase of a deck installed. I feel she is upset because she does not understand the bidding cost of materials and labor. However, I thank her for her feedback...

Installation was well done, professionally sound. One fixture was not matched well to the previous fixture (our error, not his) and would've been helpful if provider had advised us of this before installing. Fixture still functional and expertly installed ... just not the correct size for the location.
Description of Work: Provider replaced and installed some electrical fixtures.

Client purchased our "2 man hours of electrical labor". We installed their purchased fixtures and in no way were involved in the selection of items. We installed at the previous installed areas. Thank you for your feedback...

Went good, turned out great. Ended up a little short on the grout and Dave ran to the hardware store and picked up more to complete the job.

These guys were so great and took the weight of the world off my shoulders! There was no task they weren't able to do, and do well. And they worked so quickly, continually asking what else they could do. Very friendly, professional, efficient, and hard-working. I will definitely use Apex Design again!
Description of Work: They did such a long and varied list I can hardly remember everything - switched out light fixtures, lay carpet, hung pictures, put up towel bars, tightened door handles, fixed closet doors, put up shades, replaced toilet seats, nailed a loose spindle on a staircase.

The work on the deck was great. When the work was complete they removed all the trash and made sure the yard was picked up. However, we wish the communication would have been better. I was disappointed with the communication. Once we signed on for the project they did not get back with us. We ended up having to contact Angie's List to get Apex to follow up with us. There was also a day when they did not show up for work and did not notify us until that evening. Also, while working on the deck they ended up tearing off a gutter. They did not leave the gutter for us to replace and were going to make us pay them to replace the gutter. In the end we just wish the communication would have been better.
Description of Work: We purchased the Big Deal with Apex Design Build. They tore down our existing deck and built a new one.

I thank you for the opportunity to be a service to you and appreciate your feedback. We contacted this client the eveing of their purchase through the Angieslist Business center routing system as we do all clients with a thank you letter. I am not sure as to why they diid not check their email or Angielist for the reply. This was explained to the client. Once we were notified through Angieslist that this client felt they were not contacted. I personally contacted them within 5 minutes. Also the day they speak of was raining in the morning and forecast for unconditional working condition weather. We in fact did leave the gutter assembly, the client wanted the new deck railing to abut the home at an area that had a downspout . We informed the client they would have to have it rerouted so we could attach the railing in that area. They did not want to pay additional charges, so the downspout was not completed. I talked exclusively throughout the project with the husband, the wife is who left the feedback for us in which I never had communication with. I feel there may have been a lack of communication within the household. Thank you..

Purchased the Big Deal for electrical labor (2hrs for $99). I had Apex do a fiber cement siding install this past summer along with installing a tongue and groove beadboard ceiling on my front porch and was really pleased with that entire experience, so I decided to see if David's electrical crew was as good as his carpenter and painting crews. The electrical guys definitely were up to the challenge. Since there were 2 guys I only had them for 1 hour (2 man-hours), but they were so organized and eager to move from one completed task to another, that I am in awe of how much they were able to accomplish in that 1 hour. First task: this is a newly acquired residence that had dual soffit floodlights in 2 corners and neither pair of lights worked. I was going to install motion detector floods but found that there was no power to either soffit fixture, even though the wires did show current when a current sensing probe was placed in close proximity to the wire ends. After an afternoon of circuit tracing with no luck of a solution, I figured there was more going on such as a faulty GFCI upstream or bad grounds or miss-wired outlets somewhere along the feed. The Apex electrician found the cause in about 10 minutes then wired up the motion sensing floods and tested the opposite soffit floods for power which now are working fine. Second task: An outdoor GFCI outlet showed no power when a single-bulb lamp was plugged in and turned on. This was fixed by simply resetting its on-board breaker a couple of times. Apparently the lack of use had caused it to temporarily bind as it works fine now. These should be tested periodically to ensure they are working properly. Third task: A home inspector had noted that the outlets on one wall of the family room showed a grounding issue when testing. The Apex electrician opened each outlet and completed the grounding circuits as apparently the ground from the first outlet was not carried through to the other two. There is no way that I could have worked through all these issues in an hour as I had already wasted an entire afternoon on just trying to figure out the soffit light situation. Once again, a job well done by the folks at Apex Design/Build.

I had purchased a big deal for the service, and it turned out okay. They disappeared on me. They sent a second person who stood around and did nothing, so you get one hour instead of two. They came when they were supposed to, and they did what I asked them to do.
Description of Work: I used Apex Design Build/ Fiber Cement Siding. They took care of my motion lights which were not working, and they took care of a plug in the family room that was not working.

Thank you for taking time to leave your feedback. We always send 2 technicians and each work on separate tasks to complete the desired list. We took care of your electrical needs that you were having within the purchased time. I'm not sure of the quote " we disappeared" meant, but thank you again for taking the time to leave your feedback...

The ad said that I needed to have an opening into the attic and the ad was for the installation of an attic door. He sealed off the area so that he would not get sawdust in the bedroom, that was good, but I was not able to get in and see what was going on. When I open it, I have to be careful so that it does not hit the woodwork in my closet. It is kind of awkward and he never did talk to me about it. If he had moved, the door back 1 foot it would have been perfect. I am stuck with it that way and I am not real happy with it. He did not finish painting it so I had to do a touch up on that. I was going to have him do some flooring for me, he did not show up, and when I called, he said he had me down for the next week. I told him that I was going to cancel the job. He did knock $20 off for not finishing the painting. I thanked him and I would not hire him again. He did put in the stairs and fixed the hole. I am sure that he does good work. It works and I just have to be careful. I did it pretty quick. The stairway was $90 and the installation was $90. I would not use them again.

This gentleman wanted to utilize our " Attic stair Installation for labor only" The fine print clearly stated that this did not include any alteration to framing. He had an existing access of 24" x 24". We had to alter attic framing to box out for new stairs, relocate existing light fixture for access into the attic. The size of his closet and the exiting access hole allowed very limited options for the full size stairs to pull down correctly. We do indeed block off areas to ensure that construction dust was not going throughout the home. It is not to prevent the homeowner from accessing the area. I informed the client of the additional charges before work was scheduled and it was approved. In regards to the paint he spoke of, this was for an area of drywall we replaced from the client falling through the ceiling. We had to apply multiple coats of drywall mud and this takes time to fully cure before painting. This client had been dealing with many different contractors it appears and apparently had appointments crossed. Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback!!
