I had previously used Apex Design Build approximately 6 months ago on another wood rot project and was very happy with their work. I hired them again because of my previous experience and the Angie's special. The work was done as specified and additional labor/materials above & beyond the original special price was detailed on the final invoice. They continue to be my go-to for these types of projects.

We are very pleased with the results. Our house looks great. The only complaints I would have is they didn't order a large enough dumpster, they needed to bring an additional trailer to haul all the old siding, gutters away and the dumpster and trailer were left in our drive way for weeks. The job did take longer than originally quoted by a few weeks, but we are still very happy with the results and the job they did. David Wilson is a good guy.

David immediately came to give an estimate. I had some wood already painted and prepped and approached him about using that instead of purchasing new - he agreed. Jason was out the next week, did a wonderful job in a very professional manner. I was hardly aware he was here working except for occasional electric tool noises. He completed the job in 2 days and cleaned up very well. I would definitely hire these people again!

They were very responsive and the work was fine, but they did not clean up at all. I had chunks of wood and long nails left on my porch (at least 15 nails) It was easiest enough for me to sweep and clean up, but I didn't think we should have to. We have never had a provider who did not clean up after themselves.

The AL list was very unclear. I thought it covered two people and it didn't. We got in a heated argument about that. I did have to pay extra for 2 people so there was no bargain on that. I had to pay $40 an hour extra. If AL and them would've communicated better, it would've been better. Half the problem was with AL the way it was advertised.

Dear Client, The Angie's List Big Deal purchased clearly states in the fine print that coupon is for 1 worker for 4 hours or 2 men for 2 hours to equal the 4 man hours purchased. The scope of work and site conditions depict the number of techs needed. We thank you for your business and your feedback..

I think everything came out as well as I could expect really. I had to buy more because they felt the job was gonna take more. I think to be honest, by the time it was done, it was $1150 total. Basically, we replaced all the wood around my chimney. I think overall, maybe just like an A minus or something. All in all, I'm really very, very happy with how the work went. It just took a lot of haggling. I wasn't able to speak to the owner who I knew from a previous experience. I kind of want to get his input and wasn't really able to get his input which I felt was a little disappointing because there are other jobs we kind of want to discuss with him. I'm not just going to buy another deal without knowing. The worst thing about working with them is not knowing the final price. Basically, they were quoting me hours and gave me a total when they were done. It's kind of awkward. I know we bought that deal in the beginning, but when we realized we needed to replace the chimney they couldn't really give me a total. It's just gonna be based on the hours that was involved. It was definitely rotten wood from a previous bad construction of the chimney. So we hope this is fiber cement so there shouldn't be a any chance for it to rot. Hopefully, everything is good now. I'll go with an A because I don't want to hurt the company. I think they did their best to try to work within the parameters of what were trying to do. I would consider using them again but with speaking to the owner.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. Wood rot/ decay cannot be bid without the removal of the substrates to see how bad the damage is. We perform these types of repairs on a time and materials basis as the discounted coupon you had purchased. The additional hours needed were also charged at a discounted rate. Most home built 15-20 years ago did not use a house-wrap to protect areas beneath the exterior cladding. Therefore moisture wicking behind the exterior cladding causes decay/ rot to the OSB and / or wall framing. This process was explained to by my field foreman who was involved in your project. I don't recall receiving a phone call during the process, if I had I would of explained this to you. Thank you for your feedback!!!

They came to give me an estimate the day I called and scheduled the work for a couple of weeks later (to give me time to find and buy a new door). They arrived promptly at the scheduled time and did all the work in one day.
Description of Work: They replaced a front door (which we bought separately at Menard's) and repaired rot to the existing door frame and water damage to hall flooring that was caused when plate under previous door apparently worked loose and allowed water to seep under it and into the house and sideways to the door frame.

This was a Big Deal, so the price was great. As we often have had happen with these deals, the provider was overwhelmed by the response and a bit slow to respond and to do the work. There also seemed to be some issues with info flowing between Angies List and Apex. The work was done well, and they even painted the new wood for us.

Client purchased a labor only deal on Angie's List. Client did not know the needed materials to schedule the appointment. My siding foreman attempted to find out the type of exterior siding they had installed on their home to no avail. I contacted the client to go by and look at areas in need of repair. Clients entire home has had an interior wainscoting type product installed on his home to cover previous damage. I informed the client of the supposed type of siding and the numerous areas of concern. He wanted to patch over 2 areas to get by and try to sell his home to another poor soul that may not know of what the correct repairs would be, which would be a full year off and reside. I reached out to the client on multiple occasions to get his appointment set up. The delays are due trying to identify siding used and workload. Client was communicated with to keep up to date. Thank you for your feedback...

The work was FINALLY completed 09/21/2016 after over 2 MONTHS of back and forth texts and phone calls. I needed to gather my thoughts after this experience before I wrote about my experience with this business and person who did the work. Here are the details: I purchased the $179 "Deal of the Day" for 4 Hours Labor for Wood Restoration and Repair. on Wednesday 06/22/2016. It was suggested by the Angie's List Representative that I "reach out" to Apex to get the ball rolling. I emailed them later that day to explain what I needed done. I was finally contacted by "Isiais" via phone on Wed 07/06/2016 and was asked to send pics of the damage. There was clearly a language barrier and I had a hard time understanding what he was saying and many times asked him to repeat himself. I sent him the pics Fri 07/08/2016. In the meantime, Apex deducted the $179 from my bank account. I texted the pics again on Tue 07/26/2016 along with a message the I have not heard from him. Isiais called me back within a 1/2 hour to say he got the pics and he would be in the area and could stop by to see the damage. He asked if I was home and I said no. He said that I didn't need to be there since he had pics. He said he would be in touch with me. I asked if I could get an estimate and he said he did do that (I found this an odd way to do business). I told him Apex has already debited my account for the $179 so I just need to know what more this all is going to cost me. Rather than answer that, he asked if he needed to pick the materials up and I said yes. That question seemed odd as I'm paying him to do work and only he knows what he needs to do his job and where to find those materials. He called me back later that day to say he saw the damage and described the type of post he needed to get. He asked if I wanted any of the other 3 replaced and I said no. There was no damage to them so that question seemed odd like he was trying to get more work out of me. He asked me again if I was home and I said no. He asked me if I lived there and I said yes (odd questions). He asked again if I wanted him to pick up the materials and I said yes. And once again about 5 or 6 times during the call I asked him to repeat himself as it was hard to understand him and he seemed distracted as there was "rustling around" wherever he was and his voice sounded muffed at times. I asked him again about an estimate and he "verbally" said the materials would be $100. I told him that was fine. He said he'd pick up everything and have it done tomorrow (Wed 07/27/2016). I said that's fine. Wed 07/27/2016 I left home around 12:30pmI left for a few hours and came back home and noticed the post had been replaced but not painted. I couldn't understand why so I was going to paint it myself. Before I did, I got a text from Isiais asking if I was home. I texted him back, yes. He came by in his personal auto (non-Apex vehicle). He asked me to come out to see the repair. It looked nice, very nice work. He said you don't want to paint it right away as the wood is treated to repell water and mold. He said you need to wait 6 weeks. I said well it does need to be painted and I showed him a 1 quart can of paint that came with my home (17 years old) and that I needed a color match. He said he'd have to charge me for the paint ($40) and he wanted to charge me for labor and I told him Apex has already gotten $179 from me already for labor and the job is incomplete. He backed tracked and said he'd just charge me for the paint. We also talked about the "possibility" of painting the entire outside of my home but that I wanted the post repaired first and we'd get to the rest of the house later. I paid him $100 cash for the post. On Fri 09/08/2016, 6 weeks had passed and I had not heard from Isiais so I texted him a pic of the unpainted post reminding him to come back to paint it. He texted me back saying he was out of town and would be by this weekend (Sat 9/10 or Sun 9/11). He did not show up! I texted him again Tue 09/20/2016 telling him to either come back to finish the job or return my paint and I would be contacting Angie's List. I stepped out for a few hours Wed 09/21/2016 and when I got home I got a text from Isiais asking if I was home and I texted back, yes. He came by around 7:40pm. I told him I was wondering why you hadn't come back. He said he was out of town. He gave me a new can of paint. I thought he was asking me if I wanted to see the paint but he wanted me to see the paint job he had done (so, he came by again while I was out). The job was nicely done. He said he would just charge me for the paint and labor and I reminded him that's not what we agreed to and that I'm only paying for the paid. He said he didn't remember saying that but he changed his mind and said just pay him for the paint. I gave him $40 cash for the gallon of paint. THE END. Now, let me say this was a frustrating experience dealing with him. I felt this was unprofessional service. The fact that I got no WRITTEN estimates or any receipts for materials was unnerving. I paid $140 cash and received no receipts for service. Maybe this is how Apex and it's employees or contractors do business but after this experience, I will not be using them again.

This client was reached out to upon his purchase. I had noticed the gentleman had a foreign dialect in which was difficult to understand. When his repairs were made my technician knocked on the door for him to review. The gentleman would not come outside to view for some reason or another. After replacement of his pressure treated lumber porch post was completed. He called back on numerous occasions demanding that it be painted. It was explained to him prior to installing and after complete the post would need to fully dry out prior to painting. It was also explained that his purchase was completed and did not allow for a future visit under the same coupon. Client was charged per the Big Deal for the following: Materials retrieval $45 Materials $55 Paint (to be provided by homeowner) $40 All are stated in the Big Deal fine print and was explained to the homeowner prior to.

We had previously used this company to replace our front door, so I called them again when the side door to our garage needed replacing. They returned my call promptly, came out within a couple of days to give me an estimate. which I received by e-mail. When I accepted it, they scheduled the work for a few days later but ultimately had to reschedule from Friday afternoon to Monday morning because rain prevented them from finishing up a previous job. No big deal. Actually they did the job much sooner than I expected when I called them. They purchased a 30-inch door similar to the one that needed replacing, installed it and hauled away the trash. The price includes the door, haul-away and labor.

Awful!!! We had a 5 page letter of all the things that went wrong. They had to tear up the new bamboo floors THEY just installed because the installer did not lay them correctly. Apex denied they were installed incorrectly until WE called Cali Bamboo and Cali Bamboo told them how to install the floors correctly. The dishwasher was installed incorrectly. Apex contractor screwed the dishwasher into the cabinets which caused damage to the door of the dishwasher and also my cabinets. A new dishwasher had to be ordered and a new one installed by someone else. We had wrought iron balusters installed. And had to call Apex back out 5 times before they were completed correctly. They installed a new toilet in our half bath and now come to find out, it was installed incorrectly and we now have water damage in our basement and mold. Apex's insurance has called our homeowners insurance to file a claim. We were told they do not cover mold damage. This was and still continues to be the remodel from h*** and we, the homeowners, can't get anything done to fix this problem. Apex won't return our phone calls.

We purchased the "$179 for 4 hours of labor" coupon and received a confirmation immediately from the company indicating someone would stop by to look at the work to be completed. When we didn't hear anything more for about 2 weeks, we followed up with an email. That resulted in a call from the supervisor asking me to text photos of work to be done. We were told the materials to purchase and then work could be scheduled. Two men arrived to do work and then supervisor arrived a little later to review work with them. We were told of additional materials to purchase so headed back to hardware store. Guess we were expecting 4 hours of work and feel that both small jobs could have been completed by a handyman in 4 hours. Instead, we had two workers working together and they worked just about 3 hours. This ended up with us being charged for 6 total hours of labor (an additional $80) - 2 workers at 3 hours each. This is our mistake - next time we will contact one handyman and pay only for the hours needed to get the work done. These were not jobs that needed a handyman and an assistant. The work they did was satisfactory - although the storage shed doors do not close "flush". They were nice, polite men and they did a nice job of cleaning up after their work - which is likely what I ended up paying the additional $80 for.

We purchased this deal in the hopes of getting some exterior wood rot repaired before a party we will be hosting. Initially, it looked as though they would be too booked up, but due to a cancellation, they were able to get us in with 5 days to spare! They repaired the rotten window sill and a few other spots, replaced a broken pane of glass in our attic, and repainted all the areas they repaired. The 3 man crew was headed up by Isaia' Robinson, and I cannot speak highly enough of him and his crew. They were courteous, professional, kind, accommodating, and (perhaps most relevant) did great work. The areas that were previously rotted look better than ever now. They went above and beyond with the glass pane replacement, and worked hard all day. The price was good for the work that was performed, and I would definitely hire them again. In fact, I've already discussed the possibility of finishing our attic with Isaia' and would definitely love to use him again for that job. I would highly recommend him and his crew. Apex Design Build did a phenomenal job at a fair price. Not much more to say other than hire them!
Description of Work: We purchased a deal for 4 hours of exterior wood rot repair for a rotting window sill. We also had them do some additional work outside the scope of the deal for some other areas of the exterior that were rotting.
