I called to price-shop water softeners and was told I needed a technician to come to my home to test the water and figure out the best unit for our needs. I explained that I was not interested in wasting time on a sales pitch, and they said the call would be made by a service guy, not a sales man, and would only take half an hour. I made an appointment. The office seemed friendly, polite and efficient. The day of the call, the service guy was over an hour late. I called the office when he was 30 minutes late, and they were apologetic that he had not called, but unconcerned that he was late. They said he was "fixing a leak," so he might be running late, but he should have called. He arrived 65 minutes late without excuse or apology. He said didn't need to test the water or look at the current set up, and then sat down with me to share some brochures on the systems he is trying to sell. He was nice enough, took only 15 minutes, and seemed to be trying to be straight with me, but this really could have been done via phone and e-mail. The prices were higher than another quote I already had, but he did not offer to match it. He tried to differentiate on a slightly longer warranty, the claim they use only "made in Indiana products," and they are local to Columbus, IN. Given the punctuality issue, sales call in the guise of water testing, and higher prices, I will go with Kinetico.
