Description of Work: I hired Layton's to put in a new furnace. They came over to give a free quote and after doing a few comparisons they had the best price for the furnace I wanted. They were punctual on the day the furnace was installed and very professional. They made sure to keep the area where they worked and brought parts in clean. They explained everything and I will keep using them for my furnace needs.

Richard showed up on time to see what I needed and provided a written quote the next day. The quote included model numbers so I could do my own research about the equipment. I accepted his quote. We had to wait for the gas company to install the gas line to the house. Their estimated installation date was "about a month from now." Richard was able to adjust his schedule to arrive when the gas line was complete. The installation did not go exactly according to plan, but it all worked out. He expected to have four guys working on it, and it would take one day. Two of his guys were sick that day. The two guys who installed the furnace stayed late to get the furnace working so I would have heat that night. They came back the next morning to install the air conditioner. The installation included correcting some errors in the duct work (made by a previous contractor) where it connects to the furnace. Richard knew exactly what to do to quiet the noise from the air flowing through some of the ducts. The furnace is working well. I am happy with the installation. (I am an engineer, and very finicky about the work done in my house.)

Description of Work: They installed a 2.5 ton #15 SEER American Standard heat pump system outside including an air conditioner in the attic. The heat pump sits on a new pad with pump-ups. The ductwork remained as is. The new line was installed. New high voltage wiring and breakers were installed to match the air handler. A new digital thermostat Model ACON 402 was installed. The price of $7260 included the material, labor, and tax. It also includes a 10-year labor warranty if the equipment is serviced yearly. They are to let me know when it is time to have the equipment serviced each year and this price will be $85 per year. Filter and maintenance charges are not covered under the warranty. | |On June 6, 2014, I was first told an estimate that this job would cost between $6500 and $6700 but that he would get back with me in a few days with two prices: one price for a #13 Seer and a price for the #15 Seer. | |When Mike got back with me on June 11, 2014, he told me that the #15 Seer 2.5 ton would cost $7660 (with a rebate from them for $400 and that Duke Energy also will have a rebate to total $1000); the other price was for a #13 Seer for $5480 which was a smaller unit with no rebate. So, I chose the larger unit which cost with the rebate $7260. The total price for this ended up costing $560 more than the first estimate. | |There was a small understanding, though, that I had to shell out the total amount for the bill that day when the job was done. I was supposed to receive finance papers to fill out from their office ahead of time, but the gal in the office forgot to send those papers to me ahead of time. (I was wanting to pay half and finance half of the amount.) | |June 27th was a very hot and humid day and I felt sorry for the two guys (Josh and Troy) who had to be up in the attic. They came at 8:30 a.m. and did not get the job done until about 6:30 p.m. I thought that they did a very good job and that they earn their money. The centralized air conditioning is so nice now that I am having a hard time leaving the house! | |
