Hiring CBR Services was one of the worst mistakes, and certainly the most expensive (over $9,400) mistake, I’ve ever made. They were contracted through a large, reputable local plumbing company to remodel two bathrooms. I should have been suspicious when, during the demo of the master bathroom, they failed to cover the opening left by the removal of the tub drain. Instead, they allowed drywall particles and dust to pour through the opening and fall onto items stored in the basement room below. It took me hours to clean up. I then put some wadded up plastic bags into the opening myself to prevent further problems. My biggest mistake by far was paying them the final installment for the job. After what was supposed to be their last day, I found numerous items either not done or done poorly. They returned and worked another day and again claimed the job was done. Instead of inspecting the job closely, I stupidly paid them. Only later did I discover the following (I have photographs to back this up): Paint: Multiple places where the paint did not cover properly, despite their claim of applying two coats. There were whitish spots in the paint everywhere, and a pencil plumb line for a shelf bracket and other marks were clearly visible through the paint. I repainted the entire bathroom myself. Sealing: While painting, I discovered that the top of the tile in the shower surround was not sealed, so condensation and shower water could run down the wall behind the tile. I had to buy sealant and apply it myself. Likewise, there was no sealant applied where the backsplash meets the counter top or at the backsplash corners. I had to buy sealant and apply it myself. Wall Tile: The tile on the wall of the shower surround is uneven and “wavy”. Many tiles were not installed flush with other tiles. There is no way to fix this without tearing it out and starting over. Grout: The grout on the floor tiles is uneven, and even missing in some spots. There is grout slopped up onto the base of the tub, and I’m unable to get it off for fear of scratching the tub. The person we hired later to correct it called CBR’s grout job “embarrassing”. Vanities: The vanities and corner cabinet were left with a large space between them and the floor, with the shims visible. I had to purchase, cut, and install quarter-round trim to hide the space myself. In the process, I found that one vanity was not lined up properly with the corner cabinet, making it impossible to lay the trim flat. There is no way for me to correct this. Vanity Light: One vanity light is noticeably off-center relative to the sink below it. I will have to move it, repair the drywall, and touch up the paint myself. Baseboards: Baseboards are not properly mitered, or not mitered at all, at some corners. Two cut ends are bare wood – not stained. Where a door from the bathroom to an adjacent walk-in closet was removed and sealed off with drywall, the new baseboard piece does not align with the pieces on either side. Drywall: The drywall compound used where the walk-in closet door was removed had hundreds of small “pores” in it. I had to skimcoat over these to fill them before I could paint. There also was drywall (or ceiling) compound slopped onto several places throughout the bathroom, which I had to clean up. The plumbing contractor who brought in CBR was mortified at the poor workmanship. They brought in someone else to help fix the problems and to remodel the second bathroom. The plumbing contractor also made CBR Services aware of all these issues with their work. However, there was never a call, an apology, or a refund of any kind from them. Hire CBR Services at your own risk. They were a disaster for us.
