Case recommended that call Linda Westover from the Tile Shop to help us coordinate choosing the tile to match the rest of the bath. It was a great recommendation, she figured out exactly what we needed. They collected all the materials that were needed and brought them to the job site for us. Then they made sure that they took the time to do the job correctly and the finished product was everything we could ask for and more. We would certainly use them aging for more tile work
Description of Work: Case estimated the floor tile job fairly. Then started by filling a hole where we had had a shower trap previously installed. They then removed some carpeting and linoleum and prepped the floor. Then they started to tile the bath. It was a fantastic job. Mike Summers was the guy they chose for the job and we were so impressed with his knowledge and his work. There was a lot of creativity needed and Mike was more than adequate for the task.

My husband and i were looking into removing our existing deck and replacing it with a stone patio complete with outdoor kitchen. I called Case as one of my 3 estimates or bids. We were warmly greeted and even had our names in print on the welcome sign. We were led through a beautiful office into a conference room with a large flat screen TV. They were most professional. They listened to our ideas and asked appropriate questions. They shared with us the plans of another client who was working on a similar project. The plans as well as their ability to show them in 3D were very impressive. At the next meeting, I was asked to pay a $950.00 fee in order to continue. The fee would be used toward the project so I agreed. They came up with a preliminary design. Now, it was time to make selections...... and pay another fee. This time it was $5000.00, but again, it was toward the project so I agreed and paid the fee. My project manager was very professional and pleasant to work with. With his help, I chose all the materials. At my next meeting, they gave me a price for the project based on my selections. The price was more than my husband and I paid for our first 2 homes. I asked for a line by line break down of what I was paying for. This was not my first time with a construction project and I knew how much I had paid for things in the past. I found their pricing to be beyond unreasonable. Their quote for the granite was 3X more than I had recently paid in a master bath project. Based on this 1 number, we decided that it was time to get some other bids. I found out that the $6000.00 didn't even buy the plans. I did however get many phone calls from the project manager suggesting ways to "get closer to budget" Where were those ideas at the start??? It was an expensive lesson but, a lesson learned, none the less. I have no ill will toward Case Design. Larry Green is a very nice man. His staff is wonderful and I know that they do good work. They just won't be doing it at my house.

Response from Worthington Design & Remodeling
We appreciate the honest feedback from this homeowner. However, I must say I totally disagree with the comments about the project pricing. First of all, we were completely up front about our two-step design process which we use for large projects that start out completely undefined. This homeowner wanted a "wow" factor and needed ideas. After hours of design time and mulitple meetings we were finally able to come with a design scheme that the homeowner liked. As with every project, our goal was to come up with the best design solution for the homeowner. The final design was a very large, high-end porch with retractable motorized screens, a new wood-burning fireplace, a bar with metal cabinetry, granite tops, lots of stone, a new roof, etc. The cost of the project is totally in line with the scope of work and the higher end materials. We did agree to help her lower the budget by making changes to the scope and material quality. We explained that granite countertops come in a variety of cost ranges depending on the color and edge details. We provide a very high level of quality and service and a professional design team and these custom projects are sometimes hard for homeowners to understand all the costs involved.

I went to a seminar one evening at their Carmel location. It was interesting and they were obviously skilled and professional. We wanted to have some work done to our kitchen/dining area. One of their designers came out. She was stylish, knowledgable, witty and creative. We enjoyed talking with her a lot. We then went into their offices - maybe two or three weeks later. She had some ideas, but it was pretty much stuff we'd already talked about. They gave us a range, as they said they would do. It was not as wide a range as we'd hoped and it was more than we could justify at that time. If we'd felt okay spending the money at that time, we might have continued with them. Instead we settled, again, for a refurbish. We bought good quality custom wood drawer fronts and doors and some doors with glass inserts. We also bought new hardware, a new table and chairs, new lights, a funky sideboard with character and changed the window treatments. We hired a very good painter and between his efforts and ours it dressed up our kitchen very nicely - for under $4000.

We appreciate the feedback and sorry to hear that our original budget ranges did not fit within their budget. In this case and with every situation we always discuss alternatives and different levels of budget that may be pursued. I hope their project was successful for them.

We went to a seminar, and we were impressed with their seminar. We had them come out, and they had a professional designer assigned to our remodel. After we decided to go ahead with it, they introduced us to what they considered to be an elite carpenter who was in-charge with both projects. It was wonderful working with him and working with case and everything. The lead carpenter had overseen everything. He made sure that everybody were they were supposed to be, all the materials were they were supposed to be, and installed when they were supposed to be. Everything that they did was wonderful.

We interviewed various design-build companies in June 2012. We decided to go with Case Design because they made us comfortable with their process. While others charged a hefty up front cost (sometimes open ended with an independent designer) for the design process, Case only requires a minimal cash commitment for the initial design plans that would be rolled into the final cost. Deborah Mader, their interior designer, did a great job conceptualizing changes that could be made and made the work areas most functional. She also helped in preventing us from making major gaffs in the decor. A lot of time was spent in meeting with the design team to make the kitchen layout meet our lifestyle and selecting the materials & appliances used in the remodel. After the initial design plans were approved by us and their structural engineers approved that the contemplated changes were feasible, we had a meeting with the production manager, Andy Haldrup, and the lead carpenter, Mike Summers who went over the the construction process. Construction started in mid October. Mike Summers was not only a master craftsman but he was very conscientious in keeping the construction process tidy. Dust barriers were put up to prevent debris from going into non-construction areas and the last work hour daily was spent cleaning up. The floor plan called for major changes. The original pantry was eliminated and walls were removed. A new entry way from the kitchen to the formal dinning room. A new bar area was created and a new pantry was made using space in the existing laundry room. Most structural issues were anticipated in the design process and those that arose during the construction phase were adroitly handled by Case. When unexpected issues arose, Case was prompt in consulting with us about the situation and presenting us viable options. Overall, the construction process proceeded as anticipated and even during the holiday season, Case stayed very near the construction timeline. Post construction clean up was smooth. The final cost was in line with what was in the original estimate. Now we have an updated areas that not only look beautiful but also function beautifully as well.

Pros and Cons. Pros - they have a "neat" computer system to let you see the changes before they are approved and implemented. One point of contact is great; Design help would be great! Seems like it would flow nice. Cons - we were very disappointed in the first meeting. 1) seems like person who came to house did not take very good notes...meaning, many things we wanted addressed were not even part of the first presentation at their office...the lady "assigned" to us did not seem to know the things we had asked of the original sales person. (We understand that they don't want to invest too much time into a project before someone has committed to using them.....but i felt like very little was heard or passed on for our first meeting at the office). We felt like we wasted our time. 2) given the fact that they had very little detail/meat to their presentation, I have no idea how they came up with a $30K price. They would be better off NOT giving a price....but showing before/after pics of other jobs and THOSE prices. That really turned us off. Bottom line....with project management from our end, we can save money and still get the job done. Granted, it won't be as fast, but.....we are oK with that.

Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry you did not have a positive experience with our company. We strive to listen and communicate with each and every person we work with, whether or not they become a client. It sounds like we did not meet your expectations in this case. We should have done a better job explaining our process to you. As a design/build remodeling company, our process begins with an initial site visit, where we spend time learning about your project goals. We then have you back to your office to review the details of that first meeting, present budget ranges based on those parameters and describe how our process works. We tried to explain that we dont come up with a final design based on one short meeting, rather, we think it helps the homeowner better to spend 4-6 weeks going through a thorough design phase. Each remodeling project is unique, as each home has different construction considerations, and each customer has different goals and styles. Our intial budget ranges are not meant to be a quote, but rather are meant to be just a ballpark based on the first preliminary meeting. During our design phase (which this homeowner elected not to proceed with), we would have explored several pricing levels and different pricing options. It is not until we have brought a client through the full design process, where a final layout, materials, and finishes are chosen, that we can provide a definite price for the project. We at Case have highly experienced project managers on staff, who will coordinate every aspect of a remodeling project. This service, along with our on-staff master carpenters, is one of the reasons our clients hire us again and again. Many people are not interested in finding an electrician, plumber, painter, tile and carpet installer, cabinet maker, countertop fabricator, etc and then coordinating the timing of each contractor to keep a project from stalling. There are a tremendous amount of details that go into a remodeling project, and we are ready to help homeowners who would like those details managed for them. Good luck with your project. Please let us know if we can be of service to you in the future.

We had a very lovely woman come to our home. Arrived on time, asked a few questions, took some pictures and left. Altogether, took maybe 10 minutes. We scheduled a follow up appointment to go over her thoughts. I will be the first to admit, I know really little about bathroom remodels or how the process works. When we arrived at the meeting, the designer that I had met with no longer worked for the company. We sat down with another designer who was going by the notes the other staff member had made during our brief 10 minute appointment. The designer admitted that she was just going by the notes and the pictures that the original person had taken were missing. One of the things that I talked about with the original person was how this process was going to work. She was going to show us this program that would give us an idea of what we could expect. It would not be exact and would not include the design elements but give us an idea what they will do with the pictures and measurements of our. Since they did not have our pictures, we were left with a demo of someone else's bathroom. Not at all helpful. Did the new person just figure out right before the meeting that she had no pictures? There was plenty of time between the first consultation and the meeting that they could have called and admitted there was a problem. We could have rescheduled. So with a written summary of the 10 minute consult, no pictures and no demo, a person who has never seen our house, told us that the project would cost around $20,000.00 on the low end and $22500.00 on the high end. ( I want to point out this is a kids, hallway bath room.) I have to this day no idea where they came up with those numbers. They had some sheet which I would not in any terms broke down the costs. Terms were vague. For example the grade of the materials was notated but no example or definition or example of what that meant. How much was the labor? How much would the tile run? What about the tub or vanity? I don't think it is unreasonable to know how they get these numbers. To add further insult to the whole process, they wanted a $750.00 deposit to actually do the design work and then added that the price that quote is the price that it will be no overages. Big deal, with no helpful information, they could do what ever they wanted and charge what ever they wanted. Just these numbers that have no real reference for comparison. This was job interview and they failed. I understand that they do a job and feel that they are skilled at it but can they at least make and attempt to educate the consumer (me) who is looking to hire them as to the value they can bring. Show us examples of what at $20,000.00 kids bathroom looks like. Make me understand why I should believe that this bathroom should cost $20,000.00 and why should I trust them with this project if they can't keep track of my information or the pictures that they took in the privacy of my home. The second designer, after our meeting, followed up with us. She emailed that she had run through the notes again and after speaking with us, that she would have gone a different direction that would have set the price $18,000.00 to $20,000.00.

We greatly appreciate your feedback and are very sorry you were not happy with your experience with our company. Unfortunately, you were caught up in a staffing transition that we should have handled much better. Like you mentioned, it would have made sense to reschedule your meeting to give our new designer time to better acquaint herself with your project. Please know that we are including your comments in our process for introducing new employees to our clients so this situation does not happen again. Our initial meetings with clients usually last about 1-2 hours, where we discuss their ideas and goals for their project. The next meeting is at our office, where we review the details from the first visit, and present budget ranges based on those items. As each remodeling project is unique, we offer budget ranges that allow for a wide variety of design, materials and finish choices. Pictures of previous projects that reflect the clients’ scope of work are reviewed as well. It is during this meeting that we address any questions about our design/build process. It sounds like we did not do a good job of communicating the value of bringing us into your home, or how we would approach your particular project at that meeting. For that we apologize. We wish you luck on your bathroom remodel, and hope that for your next project, you will give us a chance to show you how our finely-tuned design/build process usually works.

The problem was I scheduled the work to be done several weeks in advance. The night before it was supposed to be done, they emailed me to tell me they wouldn't be able to make it. Then someone was to be there at 8am the following Monday and no one came. I called the office and they let me know they had a meeting in Zionsville and he would be there later. He didn't show up until 10:30am. I had to buy new wire and new chain because we put the chandelier up too high (that was our fault, not his). He had to come back to lower the chandelier. He rescheduled again and then he didn't show up by the time he was supposed to be there. I called him several times and he never returned my calls or answered the phone. I talked to Larry, the owner, and he was unaware that his worker had not been returning my phone calls. He said the scheduling should have been done through the office. Larry offered to have someone come and lower the light for free. I don't ever want them in my house again. I refused his offer. I have other work that needs to be done as well and I told Larry I appreciated the offer but twice by the end of the day when the work was supposed to be completed it wasn't. I can't do business that way. I need someone that's dependable and will show up. The work that he did the quality was good, but the dependability was an F.

Thank you very much for your feedback. We are very sorry you did not have a positive experience with our home maintenance and repair services. In response to your comments, we held a Team meeting to review and improve our scheduling and communication process. We want to make sure we are always exceeding the expectations of each and every client. It is unlike our master carpenters to not return phone calls, so we are looking into the voicemail attached to their phones to make sure messages are getting through. In fact, in this case for some reason our Lead Carpenter says he never received any of your voicemails. We ask that our clients communicate with our office for call backs rather than the lead carpenters to help avoid these kinds of miscommunications. We also try to avoid rescheduling appointments, as we have great respect for our clients’ time. However, when a change is unavoidable, we try to minimize the inconvenience it causes. We apologize for not achieving our goal in your situation, and for the consternation it caused you. We do hope you will consider giving us another chance to assist you with your future home maintenance and repair projects, so you may see the improvements your comments inspired.

We recieved an estimate from Case to make some minor changes to our kitchen, including removing a set of cabinets over the penninsula, removing a closet, repairing the flooring, adding lights, and building a pantry. Their estimate was over twice the price of what we received from 3 other highly rated companies that we found on Angie's List and included outragous items like $3000 to repaint our very small kitchen. We ended up paying a reputable contractor $11,000 for the whole job (and no, we did not pick the cheapest bid) and Case wanted $22,000. For reasons that were unclear, they also wanted to charge us $750 for a computer visualization of our very minor changes--that might be great if you are gutting a kitchen and moving stuff, but it was completely unnecessary for our tiny job. Somehow, they just could not adjust their sledgehammer approach when all we wanted was some cosmetic surgery. Additionally, the person who gave us the estimate made a homophobic comment about my husband's name (it is often used for girls, too), which is ironic since the male Case employee's name was KELLY. Would he not want our business if we were two women? That is the feeling I got. Lovely. Overall, a horrible waste of out time.

It was a wonderful experience.
Description of Work: Case did a total remodel of my kitchen. Brad demolished my former little galley kitchen and dining room to construct a large, beautiful new kitchen area. Everything went perfectly. I couldn't be happier with my new space. It also drew the attention of the Indianapolis Star coming out and taking pictures. Case started the project and was here every day,c all day until all was finished. never having done any remodeling before, i give this company and all their employees my highest recommendation. I will definitely use them again.

The design phase started at the beginning of April and the construction phase began at the end of May. The design team was responsive to our need to get the job started in a timely fashion. We were told that our project would take approximately eight weeks, and our project was finished on August 10th. Our head carpenter was a total professional and he oversaw the entire job from start to finish. If we had questions along the way, he was the liaison between Case and ourselves, and he was extremely responsive to our needs. Communication was clear throughout the process and everyone employed at Case was a delight to work with. I can saywithout a doubt that our addition and deck are beautifully crafted. We will enjoy the deck and 4-season rooms for years to come. You can't go wrong dealing with a professional organization like Case Remodeling. We are delighted and 100% pleased with the work they did for us.

We had someone else do the granite countertops and tile work. We had a couple of different bids and they were the bid that I chose. They were prompt and timely. They had a variety of trades available. We ran into some plumbing issues and it was helpful that they were able to get somebody out to take care of it. It was unexpected and the cost for that was very reasonable. It did not change my opinion of their services. They raised the height of the ceiling of my kitchen.

I was not impressed with them. They did not seem qualified to do this job. They just didn't seem like they could do it. They didn't seem knowledgeable; I think I had better understanding of the project than they did. They didn't seem competent. There was some drywall repair that needed to be done in the basement and in addition to that I was going to have them build a closet in the basement.
Description of Work: Case Design / Remodeling gave me an estimate to cut out an area in the basement and add a closet.

Case Design / Remodeling took a wall out and refinished it. They were very professional. I think they were a little slow to respond. And a little over priced. I would recommend them for a big job. I would use them again after negotiating with them.

I really liked their process thru the design stage. I did not have any experience with them actually executing the project.
Description of Work: I started the process with Case to do an overhaul remodel of my main bathroom. I liked their process of going thru various stages and looking at design options. Their ability to show the designs in a 3D model was very helpful also. When I said I like Art Deco they knew what I was talking about - and picked out some of items along that line that I really liked. I don't know how their cost relates to other contractors because I ended not getting any other estimates. The estimate for the bathroom remodel was at $18-$21K which some of my friends thought was reasonable. I did not end going with them only because my brother-in-law who has been a contractor in the Chicago area for 30 years said he could come down and do the bathroom and for less cost. The project has not started yet - but that is my fault - had a hard time finding a bathroom vanity I really liked that would work with my vision. We will see if this will be a smart move to go with the brother-in-law or if I should have stuck with Case.

They have been a really good company to work with. We really liked their personnel in their office, and the guys who worked here were very nice and good. I didn’t have to worry about smoking as nobody smoked on the property, and I liked that. They weren’t leaving and taking smoke breaks and things like that, so I really appreciated that. They were very gentlemanly men, and they were fairly prompt. Sometimes, projects get delayed and we did have delays, but generally they tried to get to it, like something wouldn’t come in that they were supposed to be working on, and then they couldn’t come and do it, so we did have some annoying delays, but they dealt with things very well. Their price seemed to be fair.
Description of Work: I used Case Design/Remodeling for remodeling my great room. We have had a number of different projects with them in the past for remodeling my kitchen and bathrooms.
