They gave us design options. It was a really good experience. They came out and looked at the space to blend in the different design options. We had, obviously, contracts and everything else. They were very good about getting the work scheduled. It went very well. If you walk into our living room you cant tell they were added. It looks seamless.
Description of Work: They did our built in book shelves last year in our living room.

Joe Riedman was very prompt and responsive in coming out to discuss our needs. He proposed cleaning the garage and installing units that are available at Menard's. His plan was good and the price was excellent, and he followed up several times. We decided to go with another concept, but we appreciated Joe's attention and help. We would definitely consider Case for future projects.

The contractors were prompt and they showed up every day on time to get the work done. The quality of the work was very good and they got the work done within the time frame they specified. This a good company to use and I'd definitely use them again in the future.

Although I chose another company, their bid was very competitive and I would not hesitate to ask them to bid on a future job.
Description of Work: Company provided a bid proposal for work that included the conversion of a half-bath to full-bath (on cement slab foundation), building new wall with electrical, construction of a new closet, drywalling, installation of handicap bars in bathtub, and other minor jobs.

It was a long process. They started in March and finished the beginning of October. The actual remodeling didn't take that long but we had to pick everything out. We would absolutely use them again.

Response from Worthington Design & Remodeling
This was my fault. They are a very nice couple and we had a very productive meeting at their home to discuss the project. We usually schedule the next mtg back at our design center so that the homeowner can meet the designer they would be working with and we can review an initial cost budget range. This family decided they didnt want to do that and wanted us to email them a budget. We said we would do that but obviously that did not happen. No excuses on this one, we should have responded back to them via email as they requested.

Our experience with Case was beyond anything that we have experienced in the past. The Case team is thorough - we had at least 4 planning meetings with them prior to the start of work. They had great suggestions and listened carefully to what we wanted. When the work started, it progressed nicely because the crew showed up early each day and worked all day, not even taking lunch breaks. At the end of the day, the kitchen was thoroughly cleaned so that we could use it in the evening. Larry Green has a wonderful business and great employees that he can be proud of. We will definitely use Case again.
Description of Work: This was a partial kitchen remodel (more difficult than a complete gut) with some new cabinets built to exactly match old ones. Cabinets and bulkhead between work area and eating area were removed. Existing ceiling lighting was replaced by can lights, an old pantry was redesigned, refrigerator was built in, and the area over the stovetop was redesigned. Planning and execution were excellent. Kudos to Jill Clothier for her design expertise, to Brad for his leadership and carpentry skills and to Mauricio for excellent drywall repair and painting. Work was started and completed within expected timeframe, communication was excellent, followup was timely. It was a pleasure working with Case and having the Case professionals in our home. We were so pleased that we immediately hired Case to do some handyman work. Once again the workmanship was excellent, far above anything we have experienced in the past. We would highly recommend Case to anyone for any remodeling job or for handyman work.

The gentleman that did the handyman services was the most efficient, detail oriented worker. He did trim work, painting and wood repair in preparation for painting. The handyman job was done hourly and the whole house painting was done on a project basis. The exterior painting job was done well. They spent two days doing all of the prep work - cauking and scraping - prior to the painting. The paint work was done very professionally. They also did a good job of cleaning up everday before they left. Their price may be higher than some companies, but their quality also seemed higher.
Description of Work: We used them for handyman services as well as exterior painting. The above cost was for the whole home exterior painting only.

Case exemplifies customer service in an industry that lacks it in most areas. Their design team did a wonderful job listening to our input and they provided creative alternatives for us to choose from. The crews that worked on site were clean, punctual, and very skilled, and there was solid communication through out the project. If something wasn't to our liking, they corrected it. We are extremely pleased with the outcome of the project and will be enjoying our remodeled home for years to come.
Description of Work: Case did the kitchen, butlers pantry, family room bookcases, and home office portions of a whole house remodel. Their work encompassed design, material selection, demolition, construction, installation, and finish work. Various other firms did bathrooms, flooring, painting, and exterior work.

This was a disaster from the start. I've withheld a review until now, since I thought that I could just fix the problems as they occurred over time after the warranty ran out, but the problems have become so severe and expensive, that Case does NOT deserve any further consideration or benefit of the doubt. A neighbor had a screened porch added to their house, which was performed by Case, and the work looked very well done, so we picked them. Case sent a Jim Isaacs to do an estimate, and he immediately demanded a $1000 deposit because among other things "it will commit you to us." Reluctantly we agreed. Later, a meeting was set up between Isaacs, a production leader, and the man who did most of the work. The blue prints were shown, and it looked professional, and the meeting went well. Weeks passed since they "were so busy", and work didn't begin until very late in the year. When it finally did, it took the form of a very hurried-sounding production leader, wanting to know if he could get the existing concrete slab demo'd (demolished) and brick siding taken off in the area of the addition to be built. We agreed, and that work began. The back concrete slab was broken up and removed, and the brick siding was taken off. That area was just covered with Tyvek nailed onto the back of the house. Then everything ended. That area of our yard was trashed, and the Bobcat that was used was left in our back yard. Then the expected bad weather hit as the season changed (it's November now....Isaacs told us originally to expect a Sept or Oct time frame for the work), and nothing was done on our home. I was concerned about water incursion into our home, but we kept getting excuse after excuse why they couldn't start the work. The Bobcat sat in the mud in the back for weeks, until finally a representative from our homeowner's association called and asked us to have someone get rid of it. Only then, did Case get the Bobcat, but still no work. After probably 5-6 weeks of not having a back on the rear of the our home, I blew a fuse and demanded that Case do something immediately. The owner Larry Greene arranged a meeting with us, along with Isaacs and the construction man, and claimed that the production leader had been fired, and a new production leader was introduced to us, so we were optimistic that finally something was going to get accomplished. Work then began several weeks later (approx. 2 months after Isaacs said that it would in his initial meeting with us). Case subcontracted the masonry work for the foundation. Luckily, I was home when those subs were at work, as they were literally laying the cinder blocks on top of the poured footings, with the footings still covered in dirt because they sat there so long while we waited for work to begin. The contractor said "oh it's OK, the dirt becomes part of the grout, so you don't need to remove it." I was stunned, and demanded that they clean off the footings first. After the foundation was built and floor poured, work began, and I felt that we were finally on our way. Construction was performed primarily by a man named Tim, and he was very pleasant and hard working. Someone in the office had Tim collect more money, I think the term used was "a substantial payment", which was very early and far sooner that the schedule of payments as outlined in the contract that we signed with Isaacs. That was very strange to us, but since the work seemed to be progressing, we agreed and paid them I think another $14,000. Work was finished approx. 3 weeks later, and the room looked very nice. During the construction, it was pointed out that the siding on the upper rear of our house was the type that had been recalled, and needed replacing since that siding would absorb moisture and mold and rot. That was legit....it was all over the news at the time. So, we contracted with Case to have the siding replaced and to have Hardy siding installed. Isaacs again for the contracting. This time he was rude, and insisted that the work get done on THEIR schedule, which was over Spring Break. The estimate or painting was absolutely outrageous. We contracted to just have the Hardy installed and we would paint with our own painter. Upon return from Spring Break, we inspected the work done. It was again subcontracted to another very shady-looking character. He did not caulk any of the seams, and we had some very bad storms afterward. The sheathing in or garage attic was very damaged and punched through by the top of his ladder from the outside. I called Greene and demanded that he'd get this guy back out and finish the job. He did return, but the caulking of joints and seams was very scant and incomplete. It was not weather tight at all. We immediately hired our own painter, and it took an entire case of exterior caulk just to finish the job before he painted. Upon finalization of the work and final payment, the new production leader came to our home with a very scant invoice for our balance due. It seemed high, so I inquired if we could get an itemized invoice, which he would not produce. He verbally mentioned a "gas line that was run" for a grill, which was unbelievable. This was just casually talked about with Isaacs months before, but the idea was dropped, and no gas lines were ever installed. I told him I had no confidence in what he was billing us, and that I wanted an itemized statement of work and materials. He couldn't produce it. He just pulled a figure out of the air and said "OK how about $500 less, since we didn't run the gas line after all." This guy had no clue. I lost it. I wrote a check for the modified balance. That was the last we've seen or heard from Case. Upon expiration of our warranty, our room began to fall apart. We've had continuous severe roof leaks, both at the gutter and also at the roof junction between the garage and the sun room. We've had the ceiling drywall replaced twice and now have a severe mold problem. At the gutter junction, the work that Case had done was so poor that ice dams form in a pocket between roof lines that should have never been there to begin with. The poured slab has started to sink and the floor trim is not 1/2" or so above the floor. The west windows are stuck due to the structure warping from the water incursion. Now, we're faced with yet another ceiling replacement, as well as a drywall and mold removal from the walls, and a new roof with a redesign of the junction with the garage roof to prevent further ice and water problems. Words cannot describe what a nightmare scenario this has been over the course of these 5 years. It was expensive....$45,000, and has been nothing but problems for us. I will never use Case again, and cannot recommend them to anyone. Update...A complete rework of the roofing and roof drainage, vents, and gutters was performed by a respected roofing company today. The work was extensive, due to the shoddy job initially performed by Case. It was shown to me that Case's work was so bad that if the complete rework hadn't been performed, that the entire sun room structure would soon need replacing due to the severe damage from water incursion. Case did incorrect and incomplete flashing at the roof junctions and valleys, leading to the severe leaks. The gutters were installed so poorly that the water was pooling at one end of a run and rotting the adjacent fascia and roof boarding. Drywall in half of the sun room has been removed to eradicate mold. The shingles that this company used in the re-roofing matched the rest of our house perfectly. Back when Case performed the work, they used a dark black shingle that clashed with the rest of the house, saying that they couldn't match our house's shingles since they "weren't made anymore." That was shown to us today to be a complete lie from Case. Just when it couldn't get any worse....the foundation is now cracking and settling away from the home. We called a foundation company to determine the cause of the settling problems. Turns out, Case never rebarred anything, especially the cinder blocks vertically from the poured footings. The footings themselves are also not reinforced. Also, the entire structure is NOT tied to the rest of the house in any way. The seasonal heating/heating/melting has caused the slab of the room to tilt and sink 3/4" down, so a large gap now exists between the sunken floor and the base moldings. This settling has also resulted in the windows becoming stuck and the will not open at all. In all likelihood, this sun room will need to be demolish and replaced. This has been a complete waste of $45,000, as well as all of the monies spent for repairs. This is a nightmare scenario. These are THE most unethical people I've ever dealt with in my life. A foundation repair company was called to inspect and to propose a solution to the falling and cracking foundation. It was discovered that NO rebar reinforcing was used anywhere in this cinder-block structural foundation. The junctions between the new foundation and the existing house foundation were not tied together whatsoever. No rebar was set into the footings vertically at intervals, or filled with concrete as required by construction codes. Essentially, the new foundation installed by Case is nothing more than a free-floating installation that's not rebarred or tied to anything, anywhere. The entire foundation is now falling away from the house and deforming the structure of the sunroom itself. As a result, the window frames on the short run are so deformed that they're permanently stuck closed. This is a disaster. Case will show ZERO interest in standing by their work after the ridiculous warranty period expires. Don't be fooled by their slick design studio, embroidered polo shirts and glossy brochures from the franchising company. These people are ruthlessly unethical.

They did a fantastic job. You have to watch our for any add ins. They found some wiring that wasn’t correct and they have to fix that. Plan for extra costs as you should with any major remodeling project. I wasn’t upset with any of these extra costs. Jim Isaacs was basically the main carpenter. He did an unbelievable job. They ceiling wasn’t level with the floor. I couldn’t complement him enough.

I went with them because they had computer software, which generated 3D images of the project, so I could see what it would look like. They made changes and gave me three quotes. Case sent one of their designers out to talk with us and give us an estimate. They were very professional and had lots of good suggestions. The way Case works is they give you a range of prices and you agree to work somewhere within that range. Then, you make a down-payment and they will complete the design in detail and give you a more exact estimate before they initiate the work. I really liked the fact that Case had professional designers that would walk you through all the selection processes, like picking out tile. The one thing that troubled me was the fact that they contract out all of the actual work, so you could potentially have dozens of crews in and out of your house depending on what you are having done. In the end, because of the contract labor and the higher price, we ended up going with another contractor.
Description of Work: We asked Case to come to our house to do an estimate on some remodeling work in our master bathroom. We also needed some advice on how to proceed with some of our requests, for example removing the shower walls to upgrade the valves. Our list included the must-do's, the want-to's, and the nice-to-have's. We had replacing the vinyl flooring with tile and repairing our shower on the must-do list, replacing the cabinetry and installing a marble countertop for the sink as a want-to, and repainting the walls and upgrading the shower door & surround on the nice-to-have list.

Response from Worthington Design & Remodeling
The homeowner's comments about having "all contracted out work" is totally not true. We have 27 fulltime employees at Case including 15 fulltime Case carpenters and related remodelers. In other words, we have more in-house fulltime Case employees who do the actual construction work than almost any other remodeling company. In addition, our design team are all fulltime Case employees not subs or outside designers. Not sure where the confusion occured here. We do use some specialists who are not Case employees because we feel this is in the best interest of the homeowner to use an expert for certain task. Our blend on most jobs is about 70-80% in-house Case labor and 20-30% specialists. Oh and by the way, we have invested in a full project management team to oversee all of this work. These are also part of our team. So again, just wanted to clarify this so homeowners dont get the wrong idea. thank you.

I have a bathtub-surround needing installation. In early May I contacted Case. I received an email May 5 confirming that an estimator would arrive May 12. During her visit she said that she was not the ideal person to estimate my sort of "time and materials" job. She said she would gather information and, if need be, the appropriate estimator would come to take a look. The woman who had come to the house finally sent me an email estimate May 27, more than three weeks after my original call to Case and two weeks after the estimator came to my home. The estimate says that the work would take 12 to 14 hours (plus trip charge). I quickly responded with a few questions, including when the work would begin. I asked the estimator this: "Do I understand that 14 hours @ $85 (plus trip charge) is the maximum that I would be charged for the work?" It seems fair for a consumer to know if the estimate provides a price ceiling. This is, after all, a simple project, not cancer surgery. Case doesn't send the optimal estimator, but yet I'm supposed to accept the estimate without any lid on the price? The estimator responded to my questions thusly: I am going to forward your emails to XXX XXXXX, who normally takes care of our T&M and ?non-design? jobs, because I do not have the answers to some of your questions. I did show XXX the pictures I took while I was out there, and evidently he felt that was sufficient to come up with a price. So, almost a month after my original contact with Case, they still could not provide a definitive estimate. More delay. On June 1, having not been contacted by the T&M estimator, I called the office manager. The basic problem, she said, is that the company is overloaded with work. The T&M estimator is booked until mid-July. But nobody at Case bothered to tell me of the delays I would experience. They wasted my time. The office manager manager was pleasant, even offering me two hours of complimentary handyman work -- after I told her I would post a negative review to A.L. I declined the offer. Update: Later in the afternoon of June 1, having heard from his office manager about my call, the company owner called me. He explained the delays, though I think not very convincingly, and he vaguely apologized. He also said he didn't want a negative A-List comment, which is why he called, I think. He told me that it should be possible to do the job the next week, so I agreed to have it done. He said he would call me by noon of the next day, and I said that if he were tied up he could call me later. No call by noon or at any time during the day. Instead I woke up the following day to find that I had received an email from the owner just before midnight.

I should first say that I have used this company in the past for two projects and they were great. I wanted to have my closet in the master bedroom redesigned and made to be more efficient and user friendly. The representative came and took measurements and photos of the closet and took notes as to what I wanted done. I should say that my project was not going to be anything more than rearranging shelves and installing drawers, so not too hard. The representative then stated that she would be back in touch with me within a week after she showed the information to the designers. Well, a few weeks went by and I heard nothing at all. I finally emailed the representative and she did apologize for the delay and stated that she would have a quote for me that same day (April 26th). Well, it has been one month now and still nothing.... So I emailed and told her to never mind, as this is really frustrating, especially because it involves such a small project. I am shocked that the communication was so poor given that I am a previous customer with large projects. Now I am stuck having to search the list yet again to find another company.

They installed window where there previously had been no window. They had to cut a hole in our basement wall and install a window. We had used Case once before for some work on the exterior of our home. We were pleased with the work that they did there. We like the carpenter that we had. He was very knowledgeable. Once when the job was going, he could have done directly what was on the sheet, but he verified that it was something we had asked for. They may not necessarily be the least expensive, but we felt comfortable and confident in the work they do. They offer two year warranty on all of their works, so if there is something that happens or goes wrong, they will come back within the two years and fix it.
Description of Work: We used the services of Case Design/Remodeling for office installation in our basement. I used them in January 2010.

I first called the week of 1/19 and spoke to Larry Greene. He arrived as promised for our appointment and discussed some different options and the process by which they do business. He explained that he would take pictures of our kitchen and that he and a designer would prepare a presentation of options at a second meeting at their design studio. This meeting was to take place about a week later. I told him that I would need a weeknight evening appointment so that my husband could attend this second meeting and he assured me that this would not be a problem. About two weeks later I received an email asking if we could attend the second meeting at 6 PM on 2/6. I responded by email that we could, but several days later, I received another email again asking if we could attend on 2/6. I worried that my replies were not getting through so I called to confirm. We did have to postpone that meeting the same day but I made sure that all parties involved were informed. The person assigned to reschedule our meeting did not call back for several days. When she finally called back, we seemed to have a great deal of difficulty getting an evening appointment that wasn't going to take us into the next month. I was made to feel that OUR schedule was the problem when I was promised an evening appointment in the first place. After much back and forth, the final straw was when I was told that she would "get back with" (not very professional) but she never did. We'll be finding a company that can accomodate our schedule and that seems to want our business. Case Design, after the initial meeting, seemed like they couldn't be bothered.
Description of Work: Asked for an estimate to remodel our kitchen using two possible scenarios: 1)Preparing to sell our house or 2) Remodeling for ourselves to stay

Response from Worthington Design & Remodeling
This is a little frustrating given that we bent over backwards to accommodate their schedule. They were only available one night at 6:30pm. While we do night appointments the fact they only gave us one night was tough since we were already booked that night. We were trying to adjust our schedules to accommodate them, but again they were only available one specific night and we were already booked.

He took everything down to where putting everything back in was a lot easier. They came in very timely. They did the work and they were just really efficient. I was extremely impressed. It was spotless after he got done. They were very good. There were no surprises. They were thorough. They told us what they were going to do. They had a game plan. People showed up on time.
Description of Work: It was for partial basement remodeling because we had leaks. They did some demolition work for me because we had a bad leak. They framed a wall and they did interior trim work.

It was in the Carmel newspaper that they were offering a free seminar. It was very informative. That is as far as we have gotten. It is a project we are looking to do in about a year. I was impressed with Case Design. He had a power-point presentation. He talked about different types of remodeling, from totally re-doing everything to just cabinets or doing something in-between. Both my husband and I went and found it informative. He had some real creative ideas that we would not have come up with to utilize more space in the kitchen, some we could use ourselves. I would fell good about using their company. They have designers and others that work with them to help provide all the services needed and I liked that. He did not seem like a fly-by-night guy. He is a business man and seemed to have a real business plan, which gave me more confidence.
Description of Work: Case Design/Remodeling offered a seminar for remodeling kitchens and we attended.
