My house had enormous overgrown juniper bushes and a burning bush that had gotten so big they obscured some of the windows. I found Randy on Angie's List and he came out and drew a landscape design for me. I had to wait for neighborhood association approval but he was very patient. He kept me updated on when things were going to happen. The supervisor was very polite and discussed design details with me during installation. They had to hack the bushes out, but they cleaned up, planted, and made it look so much better. They did accidently cut a wire to the outside lamp (the builder only buried it a few inches deep), but they sent someone out a week later who repaired it at no charge. I received a guide on caring for it and information on the plants. They were great!

Prompt, prfessional, helpful and the result was wonderful. Very fair price, too. Highly recommended.

Overall, my experience with Randy was horrible. I made the mistake of telling him my house was for sale (which is why I wanted the work done). I wanted to replace my sunroom glass windows with screens. He said the cost would be the same as replacing my glass windows, and recommended I call my realtor about the cost benefit (what a jerk). He then proceeded to tell me he was not interested in installing a cheap product (referring to installing outdoor steps). I didn't realize having my house on the market was synonymous with cheapskate. Randy made a horrible judgment call, was very demeaning over the phone, and made several assumptions without even seeing the jobs. I had the work completed by other companies that were more than happy to have the work (overall I spent $6,000). I guess he didn't need the money, the work, or referrals. I will never use this company.

Randy Sorrell responded to my request to meet within 1-2 days. We met and he asked very good questions while also sharing some high-level design options. I decided to work with Surroundings and Randy asked one of his designers to work through the details. The designer, Allen Janke, has been superb. He first sought to understand our goals and vision, then brought a very practical and elegant design to us. Since agreeing on the design, Surroundings has also worked with us through the intensive permitting process (which has included the city, state, army corps of engineers and others). The design has been supported by all permitting agencies. We intend to have them complete the installation once all permits are received.

It went extremely well... I couldn't have been more pleased with the final output. Randy has a creative eye for doing small things that make your property standout. In this current housing market, every seller is looking for an edge. He is extremely professional (called when he was running late)which is hard to come by with many contractors. The quality of the work exceeded my expectations. He took the time to come back after the job was complete to walk thru everything and explain how to maintain the plants thru the fall. I think the price was more than fair, especially after he had to improve two mulch beds another contractor had just worked on less than two months ago. You can not put a price tag on value. I would refer him to friends and family.

This is the most money we have ever spent outside of a home purchase - and after a few months of using it (and using it often!) we believe it was worth every penny. Our enjoyment of our home has increased to a whole new level. The people at Surroundings are truly quality people (from the creative owner Randy on down through his skilled & dedicated full-time crew and the talented subcontractors they use). When we sat down to design the porch with Randy, it was like sitting down with a friend. He truly listened to our goals, cared about our family and was very thoughtful and creative in pulling the project together. His design and the eventual finished project was even better than we had imagined. Our project manager, Kevin, always greeted us with a friendly "hello" as we were coming and going. His willingness to do an additional patio in the middle of the project without any complaint spoke volumes about his character and professionalism (we wanted a separate area for grilling and he found a way to make it work even after the structures were underway). The men who built our porch, Adam and Kerry, were also very friendly and hard workers. They were professional, skilled and polite. They were respectful about not intruding on our privacy as best they could. We once had a concern about the direction one of the doors would swing. They were very gracious and sincere to assure us that it was not a problem to change it and that if we had any other concerns to let them know. It was their desire to have it be exactly the way we wanted it to be. We are very pleased with this company and would highly recommend them to anyone interested in turning their backyard into a family retreat. Our backyard used to be bare and boring with nothing but a 2' x 3' cement slab and for 6 years we weren't quite sure what to do with it. In our opinion, the attached pictures show the remarkable transformation of our backyard!

We love this room, it was the best money we ever spent. The construction crew were the stars. They had great ideas and did quality work. I liked the fact that the company even provided a drawing to help us visualize the room, before we decided to build it.

This was an A+ experience from start to finish. Randy is great. Very professional and friendly. His quote was slightly higher than the others we received and a little more than we anticipated spending, BUT the final product made it worth every penny. Randy came out and was the only person to actually sketch out the work he was going to do and help us understand what the final product was going to look like. The work was completed in a timely manner. We were shocked (in a good way) when we came home and saw the outcome. The jungle was cleaned up, and we felt like we got a whole new backyard. We were very happy with the company and the end result. Randy exceeded our expectations.

They stayed until everything was right. It was really nice when they got it done; it was better than I expected! They came exactly when they said they would arrive. Randy, the man who did the plan, took what I wanted and came up with an idea that was much better. His plan really worked and matched my house as well. I would totally hire this company again!

They never returned my phone calls. This company doesn't like to return customer's phone calls.

The owner is very professional and attentive. However, when it came down to execution, the workmen were not as great.

I mentioned that I was getting a few other quotes (standard competitive bidding - always a best practice) and at that point they quickly did not seem interested in the work. Take that for what it is worth but their pricing might not be competitive. It also may be they are too busy to just to a quote but to be safe I would suggest that you obtain at least one other quote before using this provider.

Reused/recycled all landscaping materials. They were wonderful to work with - they were men of integrity. We've had a lot of work done at various homes and they were amazing. Took pictures, made drawings. Do not remember job cost.

We are delighted with the patio and walkways. We enjoyed working with the designer who blended the natural patio with our naturalized backyard. The only instruction I gave was general size and no straight lines. He had good suggestions and reworked the drawings several times. He provided sample flagstone to select color. He knew that I was concerned about color consistency and substantial look/feel. The flagstone and boulders are beautiful and of better quality than what I had anticipated. The designer served as our contact throughout the project, making sure we were happy with the outcome. We had small changes to layout and rock pieces as the patio took form. These were all handled quickly. The extended walkways took some rebuilding and changes, but these also were finished to satisfaction.

Randy has wonderful ideas. We loved the plan for the pond and landscaping. The work went downhill, however, when Randy failed to supervise his workers who ended up digging the pond too shallow and planting three trees with the metal carriages still attached (suffocating the roots), and with the burlap strangling the tree trunks which were exposed to the air. This resulted in what we have now, 3 dying trees. Upon our complaint of the pond's depth, Randy's answer was to stretch the liner out, which ended the beauty and depth of our waterfall. While it made a small patch of the pond the agreed upon depth, left us with a waterfall that is now just a trickle. Great ideas with very poor follow-through. We expected more from a member of Angie's List and from his promises. Upon complaint about the trees, he left a message that he would send his guys out to look at them. We declined, not wanting to risk the same workers who obviously knew nothing about proper tree planting. Horrible!

They did a super job and were very pleasant from start to finish.

Allen and his crew came out on a Friday and with the proper equipment began regrading my back yard. They attached and buried drains on all the downspouts. They brought in tons of river rock,large rock, and boulders. This was laid in the yard according to Allen's design. Mulch was spread throughout the other areas of the yard. On Monday they came back to put in the paver patio and finish spreading and placing rocks and mulch. They cleaned up after the project was completed.
