Salsbery Brothers Landscaping

Last year, our front yard died and we called Salsbery Bros. We were told we had a fungus in the front yard and they would need to reseed. We signed a contract for them to get rid of the fungus, reseed our yard, and provide ongoing maintenance. They were supposed to start early Spring (we were told we'd be one of the first jobs since we signed the contract last Autumn). The day they were supposed to start, someone called and said they wouldn't be out because rain was in the forecast (didn't rain a drop that day). Reseeding took place a few weeks later. We watered (as instructed) but called more than once to let them know the new grass was dying, not growing in some places, and the weed that overtook our yard last year was back. Early on, I sensed Salsbery was not providing adequate lawn care, and knew we would eventually be blamed. A customer shouldn't have to repeatedly call if the lawn is being properly monitored and maintained. Three weeks ago, a Salsbery rep looked at our yard and told me the company would make things right. He checked the ground and said it looked like it was adequately watered (at that time). He said the Spring was too hot and the seeds didn't have a chance to survive - never mentioned we were at fault. Yesterday, a Salsbery rep (we think the same one; since I wasn't home I can't be sure) told my husband we were at fault; we hadn't watered. We also now have a fungus in the back yard (which we didn't have last year). When my husband asked why we have a fungus (when they were supposedly maintaining the yard), he was told fungicide was extra and we would have to pay for it. That's fine; we understand we need to pay for something that isn't included in the original contract. The back yard has had dead grass spots for weeks; why didn't one of the men treating the yard mention this to us or to a Salsbery manager for follow up? If Salsbery provided adequate lawn care service, why is our yard overrun with weeds? Why is there a new fungus? The yard looks worse now than it did before they started. Couple suggestions for Salsbery: 1) Get your stories straight before talking to clients. What changed in 3 weeks? We were told your company would make things right and then (a few weeks later) blamed. 2) Make sure the people doing the lawn care don't comment about what's being done wrong. 3) Communicate with your customers and you won't be annoyed when they repeatedly call asking when someone will be out to check on the yard. 4) Make sure the client has specific instructions how to care for the yard between maintenance visits. Don't assume they know and don't blame them when the yard dies because you failed to tell them how to properly care for it between visits. 5) If you are using sub-contractors, hire better ones who care about your reputation 6) Don't put a flag advertising your service in a yard that is the disgrace of the neighborhood. And finally, have the integrity to do the work you are paid to do. We can't prove we watered, but it's hard to dispute our yard is full of weeds and areas that weren't dying before are now. If Salsbery honored the contract by providing ongoing maintenance - as they were paid to do - how are we to blame?

The quality of my back lawn is horrible and they haven't consistently treated the area behind the fence line although I have been paying for that service. I complained in July and they came out and looked at it. They said it has dollar spot and they treated it. The lawn is still in horrible condition with weeds, clover, crab grass, etc. My sprinkler system has been maintained and programmed by Salsbery since they installed the system. The lawn is watered 4 times per week plus additional times when I have turned it on manually. My water bills have been running $250 - $300 per month in the summer so its getting plenty of water. I complained again August 30th. They sent someone out to look at it and the response is that I should water it more. I don't know how that will control the weeds. They also included photos of what is supposed to be my lawn although two of them are of someone else's healthy looking lawn. The others are taken from the farthest part of the lawn away from the portion in the worst condition. I wonder if they even walked the lawn as no rational person would say it has been treated properly. I will no longer use their services which is unfortunate. I typically find a service provider I like and maintain a long term relationship. Tried including photos but they would not upload.

Disappointed that i did not hear from anyone

On the third fertilizer application in August, the Salsbery person fertilized the fenced in back yard with granules. We were both gone when this happened. We had just bought a new 8 week old cute puppy. She is eating everything on the ground. When I contacted the Salsbery manager, he said there was a management change and some how the statement on the bottom of the contract was not transferred to the work order. I said this was totally unacceptable and cancelled my contract with them.

They are very thorough and professional, and we have used them for a variety of landscape projects and currently have an annual contract for maintenance. They have done really great window boxes, and they also maintain our irrigation system. They are pricier than many, but we have felt that we got value for the cost.

We are very pleased with the result. A 100% improvement over our old landscaping. Craig, the designer, consulted with us at every stage. The foreman also was very helpful. The entire crew was very hardworking and pleasant to work with. This was the the second project that they have done for us.

They did a great job. No one else wanted to do this job. Salsbery Brothers was a lifesaver. They buried drainage pipe from two downspouts including putting one under a cement sidewalk. I have used them for 5 years and have been very happy with their work. People might think that they are expensive but all of their bids have been cheaper than anyone else. Another plus, all of their employees speak English. They use e verify so you know you are not hiring any illegal immigrants.

It was a great experience. The crew was hard-working and knowledgeable and professional. We appreciated their efforts!

Hired to provide a landscape plan, however there was confusion as to pricing due to their brochures (which were subsequently changed). After discussion and a phone call they honored the price listed and did great job. We have purchase many plants/shrubs from them and will likely go back. Good people, great plants!

Cory came out to the house and measured "the lay of the land", listened to our ideas and drew up a very detailed plan. We have not contracted Salsbery yet but will do so in the fall.

I found the product they provided was excellent and the service was also outstanding--all at a reasonable price. They were a pleasure to work with.

As always they did a great job. Arrived on time and performed the service expertly.

It went well. Katie was prompt, looked at the area and drew up a plan. Then the price of the work was mailed to me in a few days. she was very professional. For some reason I did not use Salisbery Brothers, but used another co. that my daughter uses. The prices were about the same, as well as the whole picture. I am very impressed with Salisbery Brothers and feel a bit guilty for not using them. I wouldn't hesitate to use them in the future, hope to give them some business.

We were pleased with them and we will do more work with them. They were here on time and they were excellent. .

I don't know if I would recommend them. My experience with them was somewhat mixed. First of all, I thought they were pricey for the service they provided and they were not very communicative. I wanted them to do some extra checking of some sprinkler heads and they really didn't tell me whether they did it or not, I had to call to find out even thought that was part of the service call. With the customer service standpoint, I was really disappointed that they were not proactive in calling me back to let me know. I've used them for other things like they have a store that I go to and they have good selection of greenery, shrubs and they have a good nursery but the service they gave us, I would give them a C. They were very punctual.

They were very professional and were here when they said they would be.

I've used Salsbery Bros. for many years now, and they are a great company to work with. Paul came out promptly to see work to be done as well as help find answer to mulch washing away in certain areas during hard rains. Crew was on time for starting job. Rocking some areas has solved problem of mulch washing down driveway. Crew always does a great job cleaning up when finished. Would highly recommend this company!

I was not pleased with the pre-season trimming. I felt what they did was not enough for what they charged.

This experience could not have been better!! We met with the designer, Katie and talked thru what we thought we wanted and also provided a list of plants and trees that we really liked. Due to their busy schedule, it took about a month to get the plan back and when we did.....it was incredible! The blueprint was incredibly professional, provided great detail and was stunning! I had a pretty good vision of what I thought I wanted but Katie exceeded my expectations! Katie is very easy to work with and will definitely continue to rely on her and Salsbery Bros. in order to keep our outside looking amazing! We have received several comments even though only a portion of the landscaping has been completed. Can hardly wait until we can begin the next phase. Thank you Katie!!!!

arrived early, very professional, would hire again

Went well. They arrived with about 4 men all dressed in uniform with adequate equipment. Dredged out the muck, put down a new liner, gravel and rock, and installed a new pump at the top of three ponds. Cleaned out the middle pond, dredged out the muck and also put down a new liner with rock. Looked very nice when they were done. Took a couple of weeks to do. Men were courteous and cleaned up after themselves.

Robin (designer) frequented my residence on numerous occasions from initial design, to installation, to final walk thru, all with a knowledgeable, informative, and receptive attitude. During the install, she popped in several times to confirm particulars, and tweak planting locations to accommodate my concerns. Her presence during install was a definite bonus to me. Post installation she has stopped by to evaluate the health of the plantings, and to educate me on care and maintenance. Christino and AJ (laborers) were both patient and meticulous with the building of the boulder well and stone wall. Patient in that they rotated boulders with the bobcat, and stones by sheer muscle, to determine the best architectural interest and fit. Meticulous in maintaining the functionality of both the well and wall while keeping it ascetically inviting. The day of planting was equally as positive when Christino took the lead from Robin in making sure the ?designated? fronts of the trees were positioned towards the point of reference. I appreciate Salsbery being receptive to picking up boulders/rocks from a building site at 96th Street & Olio, as well as Tiffany's in Noblesville, to supplement our variety preferences and volume needs. I am also grateful for the last minute managerial release at Salbery of a boulder required to complete the boulder well. Jonathan for his flexibility with scheduling, and his follow up notifications.

There are some aspects of this business that show a complete lack of respect for their customer. 1) I spoke to someone called Corey regarding the landscaping and made an appointment to visit him at his office (as I was suppossed to pick out a couple of mature trees for our yard). When I arrived at their office, he was not there and the reason was because he had to attend some family event. I have no issues with someone prioritizing their family, but why make an appointment with me and waste my time while you're at it? I must have subsequently visited their office on 6-7 occassions during normal business hours - and I've never had the fortune (or misfortune) of meeting Corey in person. 2) They were contracted to sod the front and sides of our yard (an arrangement with the builder which I wish did not exist). What ended up happening is us getting sod (and some plants) that were "dead on arrival". The sod was dry, and when we contacted them - they told us to keep watering and things would be fine. After three weks of watering, we still have huge patches of yellow that I'm sure at this point won't go away. 3) We contacted Salsbery again about this and in response they sent us a quote for $2000 to remove the "dead sod" and put in new sod. At this point we made a serious investment in making our front yard appealing, and we have nothing to show for it. We feel like we've been completely ripped-off by this very unprofessional and unresponsive provider and although we're working with our builder to resolve this (we would absolutely not have used Salsbery without the contractual obligation), we have little to no hope of ever recovering the amount invested in this effort. I wanted to share this with others on Angie's list so they can learn from this and not make the mistake we made.

We have used their services multiple times. Their price is competitive to others and they offered free delivery when we purchased.
