 + -1 moreThey did a great job repairing the refrigerator. The washer, as it turned out, was not worth fixing. They did advise me in purchasing a new one, which was nice because they don't sell appliances, so they had no vested interest in guiding me in my purchase.

Description of Work: We bought a new dishwasher directly from the manufacturer and had it installed by a highly recommended (Angie's List) handyman. It soon made a groaning/vibration noise whenever the hot water was filling the unit. The installer said the problem was in the dishwasher. The manufacturer's authorized repair company (also an Angie's List "A") said the problem was in the plumbing. Our favorite Angie's List plumber identified two different causes - and after we fixed both, the problem was still there. No one could figure it out but pointed at one of the other two groups. We called in Duncan (our favorite appliance repair company) in desperation - and after listening to the above story, and listening to the noise, their repair person immediately identified the problem, having seen (heard) it before. He drove out, picked up the part, returned and installed it yet that afternoon, and for the first time in months, we could use our dishwasher without horrendous noise. Duncan was willing to go outside their normal area of work to ensure that our problem was taken care of!

 + -1 moreThis is the second time we have used this company. Excellent service as usual. They had to order the part, so the repair was done in two visits, but it was good they came out before hand to evaluate the oven since the code the oven was giving could have been 2 different problems. While they were there, the oven revealed what the real problem was and they ordered the part and were out the next week to fix it. Very quick repair (less than an hour). Very nice folks to work with. They know what they are doing and we would not hesitate to use them again.
Description of Work: Replaced key pad portion of the ERC on a Kenmore gas wall oven.

Duncan Appliances uses an in-office service representative who takes information on model numbers, etc. to ensure that repair technician comes prepared to fix the specific appliance. Service was completed promptly. A follow up visit was made to replace broken knob on dryer.

 + -1 moreWhen the dryer started its annoying noise, I attempted to fix it by cleaning the inside out and lubricating. The noise went away for a load, then came back with a vengence. Duncan easily diagnosed the problem for the dryer. The washer stopped draining (when using one cycle) about a month prior. A local appliance shop quoted a new timer for $100. While Duncan was there, we had them look at it. He charged $80 for the timer.Both were fixed on the same service call/charge. We were very satisfied with Duncan. We are NOT happy with Maytag. The problem with the dryer was a little rust on the metal center of a plastic pulley. A slightly better alloy would have prevented it.
Description of Work: For the 2 year old Maytag Electric Dryer: Problem was dryer made an excruciating loud/obnoxious noise, which was found to be caused by a bad pulley (a $7 part). For our 2 year old Maytag Washer: On the "Normal" cycle (only), washer would not drain after rinse. It was attributed to a bad timer. We actually had been using the machine on other cycles with no problem.

 + -1 moreDuncan Appliance's honesty and helpfulness cost them a $200 repair in the short run, but maintained our loyalty and appreciation for the long haul. A few minutes after my call, Jim even called back to offer to offer recommendations on new appliance makes and models for when we remodel our kitchen later in the year! Wow!
Description of Work: Our microwave stopped working and when we called Duncan, Jim asked good questions about the unit and advised that for its age and brand, the cost-effective solution to the problem was replacement, not repair.

Since we had to order a part they let me know that, as well as how long it would take and just what the situation was. The man looked around after he did the repair for the oven and asked me while he was here if there was anything else he could look at for me. This surprised me, as people really dont do this anymore. I was happy with the work they did and if needed I would call them again.

 + -1 moreI called at 8:00 am on a Monday morning because our fridge had stopped working over the weekend. I spoke to the owner and he put me on the schedule for that same afternoon. They showed up within the time frame I was given, and diagnosed the problem within about 10 minutes after taking a few things apart. They already had the parts and changed them right then. The whole service call took about 30 minutes. The repairman answered my questions quickly and politely.
Description of Work: Replaced thermostat and defrost timer in Whirlpool fridge.

 + -1 moreSteve Duncan was a pleasure to work with! He was prompt, polite and patient, as I asked many questions. He answered all questions in depth and didn't rush my service call. He was not able to address my oven issue on the first trip because it is a double oven that needed to be pulled out of the wall. So a second appointment was needed when 2 people and appropriate equipment were available but only 1 service fee. The night before the second appt. my dishwasher was acting strangely. I called in the morning and it was added to the order. As it turned out the oven repair was exactly what he had anticipated and was a simple repair. Steve ended up spending more time addressing my dishwasher issue. Ultimately, he made different suggestions to improve efficiency (and reduce etching) without changing the effectiveness of cleaning and recommended I take no other repair actions at this time. He charged nothing for time spent on the dishwasher! He spent 2 trips and 1 1/2 hours on my call.
Description of Work: Oven repair - there was a loose connection behind my double oven.

 + -1 moreThe person from Duncan s did a great job and I would use them again in a flash. Our repairman showed up within the time frame he said he would. Repairing our dishwasher was a two trip effort because on the first trip he couldn't remove the pump mechanism to clean the dishwasher. There was so much crusting from hard water he was afraid of breaking the pump so he left to research our model of dishwasher and look into the cost of a new pump if it came to that. He didn't ask for any money on that first trip. When he came back he was able to get the pump out intact, and then proceeded with cleaning the dishwasher thoroughly. He was very efficient and pleasant. And our dishwasher works great. I highly recommend Duncan s for anyone needing assistance with their appliances.
Description of Work: Our dishwasher was no longer cleaning dishes. They were coming out filmy and gray every time. The person that came out dismantled the pump mechanism and cleaned everything thoroughly by hand. He also ran the dishwasher with a heavy duty cleaner, and advised us on the best way to load the dishes and the best detergent to use.

 + -1 moreDuncan Appliance Service is just terrific to deal with. Steve is very knowledgeable. We had an intermittent noise problem and when Steve arrived, the refrigerator problem wasn't showing up. Steve spent time asking us questions and trying to determine the problem. He even researched with the manufacturer and then returned with replacement parts. Problem solved! Steve was on-time and very neat and polite. We'll definitely use Duncan Appliance Service again.
