Tony arrived on schedule. He was clean, friendly and competent. He was honest about possible oven repairs and adjusted refrigerator legs and angle so that door would stay closed.
Description of Work: Examined oven light switch. Adjusted legs on refrigerator.

I picked Duncan Appliance Service from Angies List because of their high marks. Let me affirm, they deserve every positive comment. As I mentioned, I was not helped by the manufacturer when my less than two year old dishwasher quit working. Debating whether to replace it or look for repair, I checked Angies List and called Duncan Appliance. We made an appointment, Steve came out, evaluated the problem, ordered the part, came back out and efficiently replaced the defective part charging me a very reasonable amount for labor. To my surprise, he was able to replace the part under warranty making the decision to repair rather than replace well worthwhile. Also, he cleaned all the lime deposits from the dishwasher making it look like new. Very positive experience, I highly recommend Steve Duncan.
Description of Work: My less than two year old dishwasher had quit working. I checked with the manufacturer for warrany info and got zero help from their customer service. Thank you Angies List for connecting me with Steve Duncan. Not only did he repair the diswasher, but he was able to get the motor replacement covered under warranty.

Our experience with Tony from Duncan Appliance Service was excellent. I emailed them on Sunday thru Angie's List email service explaining that the fan switch on the JennAir had shorted out. They called on Monday afternoon to schedule a repair call for Thursday afternoon. They called on Wednesday to ask a few detail questions...and on Thursday they arrived on time and made the replacement. So, the repair only took one house call. They did their homework prior to coming to our home and arrived with the replacement fan switch. I would highly recommend Duncan Appliance Service to anyone...be sure to ask for Tony. Finding competent people to work in your home is very difficult...but I can certainly say that Tony with Duncan Appliance Service has really impressed us.

I contacted Duncan after a poor experience with another provider. They came out and did a diagnosis of the problem and ordered parts. On the return visit, the serviceman Tony was very thorough in the repair and discovered another part that still needed attention. The third visit solved the problem completely. Tony was pleasant, professional, and knowledgeable, plus patient with all of my questions. Communication with Duncan was timely throughout and they were flexible around our schedules. Most importantly, they got it done by Thanksgiving, saving our family gathering!

They were referred to me from the manufacturer. He pulled the front panel off the machine and noticed that motor was partially disconnected. This was the cause of the original problems. The machine worked for another two weeks and then the motor eventually burned up from being partially connected.

My experience with them was really outstanding. When I called to schedule the visit, they asked me a lot of questions upfront. They asked for the serial number and things like that, and so they knew what they would be working with. They were able to come out and fix it in one trip because they could figure out what was wrong and could have the part - they didn’t have to schedule two visits. They were very prompt. They have come out twice actually, and both times, they were early. They were very courteous and very professional. I had no idea that repair companies could be that good. I would rate them highly and would use them in the future, if necessary. I have recommended them to all my friends.

Everyone I spoke with wanted to charge me service fees just to come out to look at it. Duncan had the cheapest amount just to look at it. The man who came, who I believe was the owner, looked at the fridge and paused. He pulled it out of its nook and examined the compressor, and then turned off his flashlight. He told me right then I needed to get a new refrigerator. I was shocked that he knew that without doing a real inspection of it. However, it turns out that it was a GE refrigerator, and apparently when it was constructed it was made with a bad compressor. He knew by looking at it which refrigerator it was, and was surprised that mine was not recalled when other people's were. That is why he looked at the compressor, and was so surprised that mine was the original. He was super nice. He ended up only charging me $10 to come out, which I thought was really nice of him since he had to pay for his gas and time, rather than charging me the entire service fee. They were very responsive by phone, and I couldn't be happier with them.

I called them about the dryer not drying fast and they ended up with fixing the ice maker. They even taught us how to fix the ice maker ourselves in the future. They will do anything when they get here. They have always been straightforward with us and done a good job. I can remember way back when he was just brand new in the business. I got his name from unified neighbors and he came over to fix our dryer. When we asked him if we should get a new dryer, he said it was not required. He took it all apart and put in a part that he had. As I recall, he didn't charge us anything. We have used him since for all our appliances. That was many years ago. One of the things about them is that we can describe to the person in the office who is a former appliance repair person what it is that's going on. He will have already in his lifetime repaired such things and he will describe the whole thing to us. His name is Jim. That makes a lot of sense to me. He can then relay to the technician what he thinks is going to be the problem and he can do that in a manner that is much more articulate than what I can do as a layperson. The last time we called was actually because we had a refrigerator that had some issues. I didn't want him to make a service call because it would have cost us money to have him come out here, so I described the problem over the phone. He had seen this refrigerator in our garage for years and he advised us to buy a new one. I appreciated his candor. We thought we heard water leaking intermittently from the freezer of our whirlpool refrigerator and it was not producing enough ice. They came and replaced the module and while they were here, because I had a few minutes left on my service time, they also checked the freezer seal in the garage and checked the same old dryer. They told us that the vent needed to be cleaned and gave us a recommendation on somebody who came in and actually cleaned our dryer vent. The price of the module was $70.00, the technical service time was $30.00, and the regular service call was $48.00 plus tax. The total came to $152.20. They were there for 30 minutes. We didn't comparative shop on him because he has always been reasonable. We would use him as needed in the future.
Description of Work: The guy from the appliance repair company came out in July 2008. He removed and saw the ice maker and tested the unit. He also removed and replaced the blower wheel and tested the dryer.

I found them through word of mouth. They were very punctual. When I called the office there was someone there; it wasn't a recording. They came out right away. They explained to me what was going on with the dryer and they gave me the name and number of a dryer vent specialist because my tubing was clogged.

I was able to schedule an appointment within 2 days from when my microwave quit working. Steve arrived on time and within 10 minutes located the source of the problem. He was extremely honest in telling me that I should take the microwave to Sears and charged me a nominal fee for his time.
Description of Work: My microwave would not heat anything. Steve diagnosed the problem quickly and told me that I needed to take the microwave to the Sears Service Department if I didn't want to void the warranty on the broken part. HE could have ordered a new part and installed it, but then I would have a charge for the part and labor.

Called Duncan Appliance when my Maytag refrigerator quit working. I knew that there had been a recall to replace a part and suspected that it was the problem. I called Duncan on a Tuesday and was told they could come to repair it on the following Monday which I thought was too long, but I did have another refrigerator to use and, in fairness, I did not tell them it was an emergency and needed it repaired immediately. I suspect if it had been an emergency they would have come to make the repair much quicker. The repair went smoothly - Steve arrived, asked about what happened when it quit, checked and replace the faulty part and stayed until the refrigerator started to get cool to make sure the repair fixed the problem. Part and labor was covered under the Maytag recall at no cost to me.

Unbelievable - they could just as easily have come out and charged me!
Description of Work: My phone call was returned promptly. A knob on my stove would not work. I was told that they would come out but it was a very minor job and all I needed to do was remove the knob and get a replacement at a appliance part store that was given me.
