The first impressive thing about Central Paving was that the company sent a technical person to evaluate the potential job and prepare a cost estimate, NOT a sales person. One other highly rated company sent a salesperson and a third highly rated company was nonresponsive to initial contact efforts. The fact that a technical person was evaluating the job gave me great confidence in the recommended work. We have a very long and very steep downhill driveway (at one point an approximate 30 degree incline) that merges with our neighbor's drive at the bottom to a large common area. The drive had broken up substantially and was very uneven. It was extremely important that water flow down the drive be directed away from our garage doors and into a storm drain that is between our property and the neighbors and not down toward our neighbor's garage doors (neighbor's garage doors are at a lower elevation than ours). Next, I was not oversold. Kathy, who reviewed and bid the project recommended repairs that would not have entailed completely tearing up the original asphalt and this would have cost substantially less than the final job that we decided to have performed. We opted for a complete removal and replacement for to maximize good appearance and minimize the potential for cracking in the future. Because some of the asphalt had deteriorated so badly that base material was showing, we were concerned about adequacy of base material but core samples were taken prior to beginning the work and the depth of base was also checked after asphalt removal to determine if additional base was needed. While we could have been sold on additional work to add base but maintain same elevation of the driveway, at additional cost, we were advise that this was not necessary, although we had thought that it would be necessary and this would have been an easy sell. Prior to laying the asphalt, the driveway was surveyed to determine precise elevations and allow the creation of a slight swale in the asphalt that direct water coming down our drive and some coming down our neighbor's into the storm drain. Furthermore, water drains away from our garage doors toward the storm drain. The finished surface looks excellent. Some minor damage to aggregate concrete steps that run down one side of the drive during the original asphalt removal. The company has agreed to pay for repairs to the steps by a third-party contractor. Although I wish the damage had not occurred, I found the company's response to be extremely responsive and impressive. The contract from the one other potential provider that bid on the job contained a number of clauses indicating that they could not be held responsible for damages to landscaping or structures immediately adjacent to a driveway that was being replaced .
Description of Work: The provider took out all old asphalt from our driveway, evaluated need for additional base material (determination that no additional base was required), and laid down a new asphalt driveway.

I don't know where to start. Horrible experience. Didn't show up as scheduled multiple times. I rearrange my schedule to be here only for them not to show up or call. Bobcat bucket cut huge gouges in my existing driveway and the street also. I hope the homeowners don't complain. Comcast cable got cut so had to get new cable run, which was lying on top of driveway. Instead of picking up the BRIGHT ORANGE cable and moving it 20' out of the way, the steamroller ran over it until it was severed. Had to another period to get a second new cable run. The original driveway asphalt edge was crumbling because of the bobcat during the dig out. Instead of cutting away the crumbly asphalt to make a nice surface to mate the new section with, they just put a thin layer over it which looked horrible. The seam was not even close to straight and my leaf blower sent pieces of asphalt flying. Total joke. Embarrasing. Called Kathy numerous times to come take a look to get this resolved and I had another asphalt project I wanted done. She didn't show up three times so I gave up with Central Paving. Now I have a horrible 50' jagged crumbly seam in my driveway that I am going to have to pay someone to fix. I will not use Central Paving or Angie's List again. Central had perfect score on here so this system obviously doesn't work.

As I told you in person I am sorry for your experience. We had a whole new crew start a week after your job. We had some issues with personnel and they no longer work for us. We did the best we could with what we had to work with and I am so sorry you had a bad experience with the work I however had been in contact with your husband on several occasions. Unfortunately we live in Indiana and the weather is not always favorable for asphalt, the day I was to be out there it rained. I should have called you and that is my fault. We now have a great group of new employees that want their work to be great.

Central Paving told me they were going to tear my old driveway out on Aug. 1, 2015. They didn?t come or call. I called them. They said they would be here Aug. 2. They didn?t show or call. I was about to call someone else Monday morning when they showed up. They tore out my old driveway and left the cement curbs in the middle of the driveway. I couldn?t get out of my garage and my wife couldn?t get in. They also broke part of my cement driveway which they weren?t supposed to touch. They told us they would be back the next day to take the remaining cement curbs out of my driveway. 3 days later they showed up, Thursday, Aug. 6, after I called them every day to remove the cement curbs. They did not grade the driveway. They did come out the next Wednesday when they said they would and paved my driveway. They used a very porous blacktop. Unfortunately they had a lot of bad low spots. They came out Thursday, Aug. 13 and made the low spots lower and made ruts in the driveway to drain the water from the low spots. Now I have a rutted driveway with low spots that water sits in. They told me every day they would fix it. They were supposed to come on Aug. 17 and didn?t show up or call. I called them. They said they would come out Aug. 24 and fix the low spots and ruts. No show and no phone call. They showed up Tuesday morning, Aug. 25 around 10:30 a.m. and looked at the driveway and said it was worse than they thought and they didn?t have the proper equipment to fix it. They said they would be back first thing next Monday morning, Aug. 31. Bobby the estimator called on Aug. 31 and said they would be here between 12 and 3 p.m. The estimator is the only one that ever called me back after I called to ask where they were. I gave them the job because of the way the estimator explained how they were going to do the job. They did not show on Monday, Aug. 31. The owner called me on Sept. 1 and said they would be out on Sept. 8 to finish the job. He did knock off $500 and promise a free sealing next year. They came out Sept. 8 at 7:00 a.m. and said they would be back at Noon. They showed at 4:00 and tore part of the driveway out and put new blacktop in. The edge of the driveway is now slightly crooked on the basketball court side. There are many holes and small ruts in the driveway that they did not redo. They put their equipment in the grass and killed a big chunk of grass. I am not satisfied, but I am tired of calling them. Now I have noticed that the driveway is at least 3" lower than the land around it. When it rains, the water has nowhere to run off and sits in the driveway.

The estimator was punctual and professional. She made several trips to resolve issues.. Central Paving first tore out the old driveway on both halves except for a small portion. Later they came and added gravel and compacted it. Much later, due to weather, they came out and laid the final asphalt. Because of several weeks of record wet weather, there were many delays along the way. The whole project took 6 weeks from tearout to final paving. We were very happy with the price and the final result. The only criticism we would offer is that we would have liked more communication from the provider through all the delays while waiting for it all to get done. These delays were justified to get a robust and durable result. Update 12/12/16: In the months following the paving a problem has surfaced. A large number of rust spots have appeared on the pavement. I have researched on the internet and it seems that this is a problem caused by Pyrite. I am not positive that this is the cause but it seems to be. The gravel used to make the asphalt mixture can cause the rust deposit. My neighbor and I had our drives done at the same time with Central Paving Of Indianapolis. We have reached out to them and have not yet been able to resolve the issue. I am concerned that this will cause a structural issue as I have read is possible.
Description of Work: We had a double driveway with the neighbors. We had Central Paving remove the old asphalt driveways and put in new ones. As requested, they put in a nice median between the driveways.

I contacted the provider via email. Someone called me 4 days later and said they would come do an estimate and leave it in my mailbox. 10 days later and I still have no estimate and no one responded to my email asking if they would be out. Not sure if the job is too small, but would have been nice to hear from someone.

We had had 3 estimates on repaving our asphalt drive way , the costs varied from $8000 to $6500. All wanted to take out 3 to 4 inches of the existing asphalt drive and then install 3 to 4 inches new. The drive was structurally sound but had been sealed way too many times and the old seal was flaking off every where on the drive. There were 3 cracks that went across the drive. The folks at Central Paving proposed grinding the flaking seal off of the drive, grinding down the edges where it met the concrete garage apron and curb. Then they would put a new two inch top coat of asphalt on. They assured me they could keep the grade as it was and would apply 12 inch wide strips of composite cloth the length of the three cracks that would prevent the cracks from coming through the new top coat. Cathy one of the owners of the company came to our house at 8:30 am Friday 4/17 took approximately 45 minutes to answer our questions and work up a proposal. We asked when they could start she said they could be at our house by 12:00 pm that day. The crew showed up on time. They were professional, personable and communicated very well, they never hesitated to answer our questions and to explain what they were doing. They again addressed my concerns about keeping the grade the same and not having the cracks from coming through the top coat. The drive was finished about 5:30. It looked great, the street and adjacent curbs were cleaned, they checked with us one last time to make sure we were happy with the work and were gone. The Sunday following the paving it rained solidly the entire day, my gage measured two inches. The grade was the same as the old one the water went straight to the drive drain as intended. We could not be more pleased everything about the job went as adverised

I couldn't have been more thrilled with the experience! Kathy was fantastic to work with and made me feel comfortable right out of the gates. I was quoted a very fair price (around where I thought it would be). The day the work was done I couldn't be there so my dad stopped by to checkout the progress. He had nothing but rave reviews to give regarding the crew. He said they were knowledgable and did a fantastic job! When I got home from work and saw it for myself - I couldn't agree more! Thanks so much Kathy!! I'll be calling you guys in the future!!

They put the new drive on top of the old drive. On the day that they did it, they were hurrying because it was going to rain. The blacktop is supposed to be around 3 inches but it was much thicker than that up by my garage. Where they placed blacktop over a dirt section, there is a terrible crack and the rest is cracked throughout. I also purchased a pipe and they didn't give the one I was lead to believe that I would have-it's silver and she told me that it would last a lifetime but it doesn't appear that it will. After it started to crack I called her back and she sent someone to iron it out. He claimed that it would never crack again but now it is worse than it was. I contacted her on November 7, 2014 and then in the middle of December and told her what was going on and she said that she would send someone out on Monday. It's now Tuesday and no one has come out. UPDATE 1/31/15: The first time I met Kathy of Central Paving for an estimate of $4200 for a 3 in ch layer of asphalt on existing driveway, we also discussed my concern of the ditch pipe deteriorating like the one being taken out. Kathy said she would use a black pipe that would last forever. Her employees then said they couldn't use a black pipe (picture 1). Her employees called her to get a price for a wider turn around and she said $500. She had then received $4200 cashiers check and $500 cash. I had concerns about the existing driveway path that had pebbles and dirt (picture 2). She said they had a way to prepare that, but they didn't, and her employees just put the asphalt right over the dirt. Clumps of new grass were breaking through the new driveway (photo 3). Kathy came out and said it was odd, and then came back later with weed killer. In the meantime, the driveway cracked and there was a cave in at the mailbox. Kathy sent employee to fill in the cracks. They also burnt and tamped the asphalt where grass was growing (photo 6). The drive cracked again, even larger (photos 4 and 5). I have many text messages to and from Kathy where she is sorry. Also, on her comments, Kathy said I was very happy and they sealed my driveway for free, but I paid for it (photo 7, duplicate of check).

[removed member name] called the first time as she stated and we went there and repaired the cracks that she was concerned with. I want to remind [removed member name]as I did before that asphalt cracks. We live in a climate where the ground is constantly moving. I am sure there are cracks in the earth on her entire property. There has been numerous newspaper reports that have also stated that "Asphalt cracks". Our contract also stats that recaps (asphalt over asphalt) can have reflective cracks and we are not responsible for these such cracks. I did however relay to [removed member name] that we would fix cracks when we were in her area. Also with the cracking that we fixed, I believe we sealed the driveway for free. She was extremely happy at this point. She did call, and I did send someone out. She was not there. I had him take a picture of his watch, facing her house, so that there would be no reason for a complaint. I also called myself and left a message saying he was there and to call me back. I never received any message from [removed member name] after the call was made. We still have the picture if that would help. As far as the driveway goes we will still fix the cracks, that I explained could come back, and the spot by the culvert where she is having problems. I feel that this complaint is totally unjust and ridiculous and should be taken off our complaint list. We were already there once, fixed the cracks and sealed the driveway. Then she called again and we went out again. This is in our contract and explained to [removed member name] that reflective cracks are not our responsibility. In addition I told her that we would fix such cracks when we were in her area and not the day she calls. She completely understood, and was more than understanding. We will not refund her money, and we have done everything that was stated in our contract. we will continue this Spring to fix the area by the culvert and repair the cracks, If the area by the culvert fails again we will address that problem, but cracks are going to happen.

It went fair. The reseal of the blacktop was supposed to be a 1 day project, but it stretched out over two. They couldn't paint the lines for about 2 more weeks. It is fine and looks okay, but as far as being able to accomplish it in the manner expected, it was not. There wasn't a clear explanation of the process or time expectations, which was inconvenient.

I am sorry for the time it took to complete the project but the striping had to be done over the weekend to accommodate your customers and there was rain in the forecast for the two weekends. Rain as you know will wash off the striping. We always prefer to finish a job when started but can not control the weather.

Kathy was very easy to work with and the crew did a great job. We texted questions back and forth because that worked best for me. We discussed a start date a month ahead of time and I assumed with several days of bad weather that happened after that discussion that there would have been a day or 2 of delay, but there was none. I was impressed by the size of operation she had working at our home. We added a section that we wanted paved the day before they were scheduled to come out and she was able to accommodate that without any problems and the entire project was completed in 3 hours. I did come by before they started and asked the project manager some questions. He answered all of them and gave me some great suggestions too.

I was looking to have my fairly long gravel driveway (about 35 yd with small side parking area) paved with asphalt. Kathy returned my initial call in less than 48 hours, and was able to come out and give an estimate the same day. She thoroughly explained their process including grading and putting down salt to prevent plant growth underneath the asphalt. She took plenty of time discussing the project with me to make sure they knew what we wanted and there wouldn't be any unexpected problems later. I obtained one other estimate which came in about $300 lower, but was not as impressed with their attention to detail. Kathy agreed to match the lower price. It was still a little pricier than I expected, but I was willing to pay more for service that comes well-recommended and work that (hopefully) holds up over time. After taking a little more time to think it over, I called Central Paving back and they were able to get us on the schedule within 2 weeks, which ended up being more like 3 weeks due to uncooperative weather. Unfortunately I was out of town and couldn't be there when the work was done. It was completed in 1 day, and the finished product looks FANTASTIC. The attention to detail around the edges and junction of the driveway with the garage and brick sidewalk is very good. We couldn't be happier with the way it looks.

Kathy, the estimator/project manager, was very responsive. I did my due diligence and acquired 3 estimates. I had one that was less and one that was about the same. So, I went to work learning and investigating the differences in the estimate and services quoted. All companies quoted widening and grading my drive to 22ft wide. Length was about 80ft. I found that Central Paving was willing to spend a little more time explaining the differences. One big difference was that CPOI (Central Paving of Indianapolis) suggested I use binder as I have an RV sitting on the drive for long period of time. This would be a stronger base and keep the camper from leaving indentions. We scheduled the job from a Friday and had to move it to Monday due to weather delays. Kathy was always timely. However, all but the worker bringing the Bobcat showed up on time. We had to wait almost 2 hour before they could get started for him to arrive. Once they started things went smoothly. If I had questions, they took the time to explain and handle any concerns that came up. All was going well, but they ran out of pavement about 15' from the finish. It took another 3 hours for the new pavement to show up. The delay in the additional pavement was due to the plant that was closest to my home was not maxing pavement that day. I am very pleased with the job. If things arise, I was assured by Kathy they would make it right. The foreman was very good at his job and the rest of the crew were skilled and worked well as a team. I highly recommend CPOI for you paving needs.

They were prompt in returning my phone calls and inquiries (which seems to be rare in the concrete business, apparently). They were also punctual and thorough. I needed a particular configuration of drain to go under the sidewalk from my downspout and the foreman Tony made a special trip to Lowes to get the exact parts required.Kathy was especially pleasant to deal with and I felt the communication was great throughout the whole experience. Most important, the workmanship was solid. The patio was given a firm foundation of gravel, etc. and appears to be sloped properly awayfrom my deck. The sidewalk likewise appears to be of superior quality. Overall, a job well done.
Description of Work: removed and repoured sidewalk near my garage; plus poured a patio by my deck.

We have a driveway that slopes downhill toward our garage and as a result have had flooding. Kathy came out a few times and gave us some great suggestions for how to re-grade it in a way to help with some of the drainage. We had some time where we had to wait on the work due to other large jobs that they had booked and there was a bit of a communication lag at times but overall we were really happy with the work done. The work was done within a few hours (for a very large driveway) and it looks amazing. We had a heavy storm that very night and the drainage was in fact a whole lot better. We definitely recommend this company.
Description of Work: Graded and poured a new asphalt driveway.
