They were extremely expensive and I am going with another way to do things. I did not hire them. There was no way I was going to spend that kind of money. It is a good product.

Our master bedroom closet was in a major need of a remodel, not having had anything significant done to to it probably since the house was built. We engaged 3 different companies to provide us with a design. Jennifer Phelan from California Closets came out to measure and design the closet while she was there. It didn't take her long to come up with a plan for the approx 10' x 7' space. She was able to show a visualization of the space on her laptop in 3D and make some minor adjustments to the plan on the spot. It was very pleasant working with her. All three companies offered plans that were highly similar, but the placement of shelves, long hang, and in particular how they managed one of the corners was the main differences. A significant difference in the planning was that the other two designs had shelf spacing that wasn't consistent width. Jennifer had all the shelving be of consistent width so that we could interchange shelves if we needed too. Her plan just fit what we wanted a bit better. Jennifer I think just had a little better feel for useable space. Cost wise, one plan was about 1000, CC's was 1600, and another was around 1900. So not the cheapest, but design wise it fit us the bst. I would highly recommend getting multiple designs because you never know what is going to fit your needs, especially with larger closets. The one thing I did NOT like about California Closets is they treat their plan as proprietary and do not provide you a printout or a sketch of what they planned. If you want to see it, you need to either have them come out again or go to their showroom. The other two companies had no problem sending me their designs. Some of the reasoning is that I could take the plan to someone else and have them do it cheaper. But there is nothing stopping me from taking what I remember of their plan and telling someone else that I wanted X, Y, and Z in the plan. I might not have been able to provide the exact measurements, but I could have come close enough for others to replicate it. Since they came first, how am I expected to be able to reasonable compare their plan from subsequent ones? Sure I could print the other plans and take them to CC's showroom, but that means I'm then comparing and reviewing things with someone from CC there, instead of being able to think about this in private. I can't take my time and review it at home, or look over it with my wife (who couldn't be at the original appointment). This policy is very customer unfriendly. Its like they are saying their plan is more important to them than to me, the customer who this is actually for. I've never dealt with a company that was doing some work on my house that was unable to provide a plan that I could look over later. How would a generic rough sketch w/o dimensions really be that big of a deal to provide? If the customer is going to take it somewhere else, they would probably find a way to do so, like sketching it out after they leave, or describing it in detail to someone else. Typically, I would not even work with a company that treats me like that. But they did come up with a nice plan and Jennifer was nice to work with, and so we went ahead. Scheduling got back to me with a day for the install, with understanding that it couldn't be on the weekend, as I needed to tear down the existing shelving. I signed for the work digitally (where they did provide all the plans). The installer showed up the day and time they said he was going to. There was just a single guy to do our closet, and he spent about 3-4 hours getting it all installed nice and neat. Very friendly and personable, he only had a couple of questions that needed answering. In the end, the closet is exactly what we wanted, although a little taller than I expected (3D visuals on the computer can only show so much), but there wasn't any problem with that. We now have significant more hanging space, and shelf space than before that will do wonders for our organization. The experience, other than the issue with having a copy of the plans to review, was great from start to finish. We'll redo my daughters closet in the future, and we'd have no problem going back to them. I recommend visiting their showroom in Carmel, if for no other reason than to see they kind of things they can do.

Susan Martin-Gibbons is such a talented designer. She was able to take my vision of a "dressing/glamour room" and make it a reality. Even when my needs exceeded the physical availability, she was creative and ingenious in finding solutions that worked. Susan listened closely to all my needs and ideas. Susan was flexible and supportive when we needed to make changes to the plans. Susan is fun to work with and she possesses a contagious positive attitude. I highly recommend her!!!

Our home renovation of master bath and walk in closet was a struggle from start to finish. My shining moment had to be my closet install. Our designer was Susan Martin-Gibbons, and I cannot say enough wonderful things about this charismatic woman. We had to cancel on her the first visit (due to continued construction issues), and she was super understanding of the mess she had to endure while measuring our still rustic looking walk-in. She put together a plan, and it could not have matched up better for our needs. She truly loves her job and is very good at it. She listened to all the personal requests that we had and incorporated them beautifully. She did not try to oversell us, and in fact, showed us much better (and cheaper!) options that would complete the look we were hoping for. There was a small glitch on some mirrored doors not ordered correctly, but Susan was on it. Within 3 days- it was fixed. Her communication with us was perfect- we never once doubted she would not give 100% for us. With great customer service hard to find these days, Susan is held in high regards in our home. Our master closet is beautiful, and I no longer mind putting away laundry!

I had a great experience with California Closets. I am very pleased with the way the shelves and racks look in the two bedrooms. The organization is a natural fit for how the closets were being used. Now, it's a much better use of the space. And it looks so much better! I had previously looked at Menard's and Lowes for closet systems and thought that a professionally installed closet system would too expensive. But, I was pleasantly surprised to find out I could get 2 closets for what I thought it would cost for one closet. All of the people I worked with at California Closets of Indianapolis were professional, courteous and knowledgeable, especially Susan. Her friendly and outgoing personality made the experience very enjoyable. I'm looking forward to having my other closets done next year, and I will definitely call Susan Martin-Gibbons at California Closets.
Description of Work: I had 2 closets done in my home. My designer was Susan Martin-Gibbons. She was fantastic! She came to my house and measured my closets and worked with me to create the most efficient design for the way we use our two closets, and the amount of clothes, shoes and storage needed in the space. She created the design for each closet on the computer and together we made sure that all the important elements were included. Once the plans were finalized that same day, I paid my deposit and scheduled the installation. On the day of the installation, two men built the shelves and installed everything and then vacuumed the areas. I had one specialty piece that they installers did not have on their truck, so I called Susan and she brought it over within the hour so it could get installed while the workers were there. That's good service!

Jennifer Phelan was our designer and Joe was our rockstar installer. Jennifer came to our house and sat down to talk with us about our goals before going to look at the closet. We live in a 1903 house and storage space is an issue. We're lucky to have a master closet and needed help maximizing our storage. Previous owners had installed rods and cubbies but it wasted the space. Our pie-in-the-sky wish list was drawers, shoe & boot storage, and hanging space. Jennifer spent quite a bit of time in the closet taking measurements. When she came out, she worked on her computer awhile and came up with a 3D plan to show me. She had counted our garments to estimate necessary hanging space and worked with what was left over to work in drawers, shelving for shoes & purses, and slide out laundry bags. Everything we wanted! I asked to make a couple of adjustments and she shifted things around to accommodate them. There were lots of upgraded finishes I could have added, but I liked the basic white woodgrain (Bellisima White Square). Jennifer showed me the upgrade options but didn't give the hard sell. I appreciated that. She told me about promotions that gave us accessories (tie and belt racks and a nifty valet bar) and gladly applied the Angie's List discount - reducing the $4137 list price to $3679. 1/2 of the cost was the required deposit. To save money, we tore out our old system ourselves and provided our own drawer pulls. Brushed nickel pulls would have been included in the cost, but I picked up some crystal ones on sale at Anthropologie. Since we were doing the demo & painting ourselves, Jennifer suggested scheduling for a Monday - giving us a weekend to do the work and a minimum amount of time without the use of our closet. Installation was about a month from the initial appointment. The installer, Joe, showed up right when he said he would and worked hard to install everything perfectly; working around not-quite-straight molding, a perplexing 1/2' bump out in the middle of one wall, and an oddly placed air return. Plus he was great with our dogs. He finished by mid afternoon. The entire system was custom cut and made for our space, not off the shelf pieces. Our old closet organizer left holes in our wood floor. Joe asked if we had any extra pieces of flooring around and cut pieces to fit into the holes. We were so grateful for this extra customer service! He cleaned up the closet and floor and left it spotless. We have 30 days to ask for adjustments and a lifetime transferable warranty on the system. To be honest, I hated to spend that much money on something no one ever sees but I love it!

I worked with Michelle on the design of what I wanted to fill the area. Jonathan brought the cabinets out to install and when they didn't fit exactly as expected, he had ideas to remedy the situation. He took the cabinets back to the shop, made the adjustments, and returned in an hour and a half ready to install. They fit perfectly and I couldn't be more pleased. No muss, no fuss, and no hassle. I love my new cabinets!

After reviewing Calif. Closets I had a bid by Erin who did an outstanding job in her design work. She addressed all of my needs and help me organize my items. Both my wife and I are extremely satisfied. I now have an appointment to have two additional closets redesigned.

Design consultant came out in a short amount of time. She helped us figure out what was truly important and how to really maximize the space. We were surprised with all of the different ways they could help us maximize not only the client but also the kitchen pantry. Installer was very professional and did a great job keeping the work area clean. Also made a few tweaks on the fly to handle a few small last minute requests. Definitely not the 'cheapest' route to go when maximizing any space but now that it is in we are extremely pleased with the outcome and are thankful we didn't go another route. You can tell their materials are built to last and even though it is a closet it looks great.

A highly professional job. Erin Moore did an excellent job designing the cabinetry. The installers were prompt, courteous and kept the place clean using drop cloths protecting the carpet leading to the master bedroom on the second level and the loft on the third level. They also gave us good advice and suggestions about how to place grommets to access electrical outlets.

Went into showroom, met with designer Cressa. She told us about her product lines and we scheduled a time for her to come out and take measurements. She arrived promptly as scheduled and measured our closet. Throughout the process, she asked questions regarding our usage, needs, and wants. Following this consultation, we moved downstairs where she mocked up a design on site using computer assisted design software. We made changes on the spot and left with a design and price. While comparison shopping, I asked Cressa for some additional modifications to the plans. The new designs were completed fast and as specified. We then scheduled delivery and installation. As scheduled, Joe promptly arrived and completed the job in under the estimated time. Additionally, he walked me through each of the adjustable components and showed me how to adjust them. He finished by wiping each individual surface, horizontal and vertical, with a cleaner and then using a vacuum, removed all the debris from both the product as well as the carpeting. I 100% recommend Cressa and Joe at California Closets Indianapolis.

Description of Work: We cannot say enough great things about our designer Susan. From the beginning of our first meeting to the many follow up meetings we had with her, Susan was energetic, creative and professional and we loved working with her. We used her to create closets for our entire house, plus our pantry and our master bedroom. The installers were terrific as well. I cannot say enough great things about this company. Excellent experience. Erin was very helpful and professional. Was available for a consultation few days after I called. Came to our house and understood immediately what I needed. basically, we have a non existent mudroom and I wanted the laundry room closet to act as a mudroom with cubbies for the 4 of us in the family, and multiple shelves for shoes, book bags etc... For the master, it was a very primitive closet with mostly just hanging space. In less than an hour, Erin designed both closets for us while still at our home, and gave us a final estimate. We agreed to go ahead and I was contacted 2 days later to set a date. They showed up on that date on time and finished all the work in one day. Both closets look completely different and so much more organized. We now have 4 cubbies in our laundry room closet and multiple shelves. The master too has as much hanging place as it used to with almost 20 shelves for clothes and shoes, and 4 drawers as well as a belt rack and a tie rack. When they were done you couldn't even tell anyone was in there building all this or tearing down the previous hangers/shelves their work was that clean. i recommend California Closets highly and plan on using them again this spring summer for my daughter's closet and our pantry.
